Also not been good with walking this week - only 10 - 12K steps - miss walking before work, but I've been cold and don't feel like bundling up for a 15 minute walk - I wake up at 5 (no alarm clock - my body just wakes up - also tend to wake up when DH gets up too) but relax and don't get my shower till 6 which does not really leave my enough time for more than a 15 minute walk - I need to leave by 6:55 to get to the school I'm covering (hopefully only till winter break) by 7:30. Today it took me 45 minutes to get home. It is one of the farthest parts of the district from my house!!!

Still exhausted from this past week-end. The boxes we shipped home should arrive tomorrow. Lots of photos - all the ones I sent my MIL from Snapfish of the kids and our trips, letters/cards my sone and DD#2 sent their grandmother (sent DD#! hers) plus old family pictures of my DH when he was growing up. I also took a quilt she had on the guest bedroom bed - it is really pretty - I will put it on DD#1 bed. I took my MIL's old Betty Crocker cookbook from 1950. There is also the old fashioned metal 3 step step stool (the one where the steps fold under the seat), a corner shelf my DH made in wood shop in junior high and a metal box my DH wanted. There are other things in the boxes but I don't remember what else we packed. I will go through the pictures again and throw out duplicates and ones that aren't good. DH is going to ask the lady doing the estate sale next month if she can ship the little rocking chair to me and we'll send her a check. I should have shipped it Sunday - didn't take it to Fed X when we went, and when I went to go a second time DH said why bother and I agreed with him and then I decided I really want it and it was too late. DD got her boxes today and she is enjoying going through the letters she wrote her grandmother. She found one she wrote in 1997 when she was 11 saying she would like to have the little doll cradle - which DH took apart so we could ship to her. She is quite handy so she should be able to put it together. Its 2 dowel rods and then 4 screws to attach the sides and the ends.

This is the rocking chair. When I look at some of the pictures of the house, it makes me sad that soon it will all be gone and this past week-end was probably the last time to be at the house. So many memories. Both my DD#1 and my niece said the family room was the most fun room in the house - that's where my MIL always played with the grand kids.

Sorry for going on and on. Feeling sentimental from this week-end.

We are supposed to get snow tonight and tomorrow - only a couple inches, but the side streets are still snow packed and icy. It's supposed to be nice this week-end so hopefully everything will melt. Its not often that snow stays on the streets for over a week.

    Sweet dreams

It is a sentimental time to close out a loved one's life. I have quite a few of my parents things, and they make me feel both happy and sad at the same time. Lots of memories......

I zoomed around most of the day doing Christmas shopping before the weather gets bad again (by Sunday we are predicted to have snow and start a cold snap....cold being minus 22 degrees one night). We went to a college basketball game tonight. Our team was down by 19 points & came back to win in overtime! Whoo Hoo!

This morning, some Walking Women walked outside, but here are we wimpy indoor walkers. The reason some of us are wearing penguin sweatshirts is that one of our ladies loves the Ellen Show & several years ago she had a contest where people were to submit tapes of themselves doing something called 'The Penguin Dance'. Well, our friend convinced us to perform and submit a video wearing these sweatshirt (and tall orange socks). Needless to say, we did not win.....but had a lot of fun in the process......so we dig out and wear the penguin shirts every once and awhile for old times sake.

karen1956 we went through this three years ago when packing up my MIL's belongings as she moved (briefly) into assisted living and then into full time nursing home. Very hard.

Also I so wish I had one of those old school stools! In fact, I was looking for them online last weekend and finally gave up and ordered a step stool.

Got in a 5.2 aerobic run this AM. We fly out at 7 tomorrow morning to see my stepmother and that side of the family. My half brother turns 50 this month so we're all surprising him tomorrow night.

Karen - I sympathize with you regarding your MIL’s home and possessions. Just so many memories! My sisters and I ( with tremendous help from my daughter and nephew) cleaned out my mom’s house nearly a year ago and sold it. Finding a buyer and so quickly in an economically depressed town felt like Divine help so that was a bright spot. I think my in-laws’ home will be more difficult for my husband and his siblings when the time comes. They have lived there nearly 60 years. That metal stool with the pull-out steps - we had one of those when I was a kid. I bought a similar one (seat flips up if you need the steps) off of eBay when my daughter was little. Love it!

I’m getting exercise through walking mostly and a little running. What I really need to do is adopt a better sleep routine and make more time for lifting weights. I really don’t have any ex

Falconer, I was wondering how the yoga nidra would work at noon.....like would I want to go home and go to bed? But it is actually very refreshing & rejuvenating. Our teacher says that an hour of nidra is the equivalent to four hours of sleep. Since we are just doing 30 minutes, that should be equal to two hours (since I am a rotten, restless sleeper; this is very happy news to me!).

I am off to Zumba in a couple minutes, then I am going to try to finish my Christmas gifts shopping!!!!!!! Tonight I will go back for Dance2fit and Yoga.

Ruth, i'd walk anywhere for those outfits! I need some of this nidra stuff, too. I've started tracking my sleep on the fitbit and very rarely get a good score (80+ points), just fair mostly. I've read however that exercise helps compensate for the lack of sleep in terms of repairing the body.

    Off to salsa later.

So yesterday and today I did Classical stretch. Boy am I stiff! Nothing wanted to stretch, not just my bad arm. But I know if I keep doing it, it will come back eventually. Haven't picked up walking yet, our snow is now slippery icy, and I realize I now have a fear of falling. I have added most of my "strength" chores back, like firewood, filling the humidifier (water is heavy!), and laundry. Still weak on the bad side, but strength is returning there slowly too. Off to physical therapy in a bit, where they will give me those exercises that target the muscle that just doesn't want to work - I go there feeling like I'm a lot better, and leave there humbled by how far I still need to go.

Pat01- I meant to say before that I fell and broke a bone in my shoulder last November. So I totally understand what you are going through. PT helped greatly but I feel like I wasn’t given good direction from the orthopedic doctor so I delayed getting my shoulder in motion and developed a lot of scar tissue. So it was an uphill battle. Today, over a year later, my shoulder is not as good as it was before the break, but I can do just about everything I used to. Putting something a little heavy up on a high shelf is difficult (like my carry on in the overhead compartment on the airplane)

I wonder why my post got cut off up there? Tried to say “no excuses

    Hi Kale

I have found that my posts from my iPhone typically cut off the last word...

Finally a sunny day in San Diego! Now in meetings most of the day, but will walk my 10K today. TT

    Ruth - love the sweatshirts!

It's a fine misty rain out - been raining most of the day - just went for a walk with my gortex jacket - it is damp and cold. DH and I will walk after dinner if it isn't any worse out. Supposed to get some snow, but I haven't heard the forecast yet.

The boxes arrived today. I told my DD#1 that I kept my MIL's old rolling pin and the Betty Crocker cookbook. She asked me about a Jenny Grossinger cookbook. I didn't see it in the kitchen. Wonder if it was in the garage. We didn't look at all the books in the garage, but we did go through the kitchen. Unfortunately, none of the grandkids could use her china or silverware, but I don't feel sentimental about that. Sure wish DD would have asked when we were there. DH asked his bother to take the rocker to Fed X and he is going to do it on Sunday. One wall in my kitchen is a dark red, so the step stool will go well with it. Need to figure out where we want to put the corner shelf DH made and a photo he brought back.

It's weird - my late parents moved to FL in 2001 - I don't remember feeling sentimental when they left that house - my older kids were15 and 12 and my younger daughter 3 (so she doesn't remember the house). Then when I moved my parents here, I didn't feel sentimental when I packed up there condo in Boynton Beach - maybe its cuz we gave away most of the furniture. And of course when my Mom passed away going on 2 years ago, the apartment had no meaning for me, but I do have several things from my Mom - her tea cart, a large oriental vase, some artwork, painting of my grandparents (my mom's parents) and of course lots of pictures. I guess by the time my mom died she had moved to two different cities and in Denver 3 apartments - 2 different independent living communities and the last move was to a handicapped accessible apartment. I think it's also hard as my MIL was the last of our parents. WE are now the "senior generation", though my husband does have cousins in their mid to late 70s.

End of week 1 of 3 till winter break - (I don't work Fridays) - 2 more weeks till winter break - not that I'm counting!! I have my backseat filled with gently used stuffed animals, games and some new ones to take to the Santa Claus shop. Didn't feel like doing it after work today as I was a mile from home and got to get home early!!! Will take them next week. If I'm motivated I'll go in the crawl space and see what else there is. I have a plastic bag of BC beanie babies (I also have several on my dresser) but I'm not ready to give them away yet - maybe next year. I also have too many Build a Bears lining the futon in my spare bedroom - need to decide what I want to give away - but will wait till next year after I add my girls. I almost always made one when I took my younger daughter to Build a Bear. Makes me wonder where all her are besides the one on her bed that she always slept with.

Pat - hope your arm heals fully and quickly.

Octo - how are you feeling? How many more radiation Tx?

Well, I best get busy and tidy up all the boxes and put near the trash outside - DH will help me.

Will try to come back and read later tonight

Heidi, my sleep scores this week are 65, 74, 59 & 71. The last time I was in the 80s are Nov. 25, and the time before was November 10th. I need to go to Nidra every day if I want to make up the deficient!!!!!

Mitzi and Bubba - online Barre3 class. That’s a great idea for me to give it a try

TrmTab - thanks for letting me know about posting from my phone . I’m going to try again but add space at the end to see if it helps

Ruthbru and Heidi- so funny to hear others talk about Fitbit stats and sleep scores. I had sleep scores in the 80s recently when I was under the influence of NyQuil

Karen - so great you have stuff to donate and you’re taking advantage of the inclement weather to pack it up

I didn't have time for formal exercise yesterday (subbed, wrapped presents, went to a wonderful holiday dinner concert), but still got 10,000 steps due to the fact that the kids I subbed for were doing projects with partners. Which means I never sat down for one second. I circled the room all day 'encouraging' the students to stay on task......which can be challenging for 7th graders! Shocked

As soon as I'm done typing this, I am off to Yoga & I will probably stay for POUND. Then I truly want to finish up the Christmas shopping as snow and super-cold weather are arriving tomorrow.

No exercise this weekend except to walk the dog. DD AC really lowed my hemoglobin and very very weak. White count ok. Hopefully this will pass. Ate a great steak rib eye last night and could actually taste it. Hopefully that will help bring up the hemoglobin. Hovering around 8. I could use some energy. Christmas tree up and looks beautiful. I was able to wrap the grand kids presents so it looks like Santa was here already. My family from VA, and VT will be here for Christmas. Can't wait. Just hope I have some energy to enjoy. DD AC on Friday with trial med/placebo, then last dose of AC the Friday after Christmas and I'm done with chemo!!!! a well deserved break for about 4 weeks then surgery. Can't wait for break. I'm going to try and visit my home on the West Coast of Florida, if allowed. I see the light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Martaj ❤️ I hope the steak helps your energy return. Having the treatments behind you, and they will be one day, is the way to get your energy back.

Ruth- I’m glad to hear that yoga nidra gives you energy- hope you can channel it when you’re in the seventh grade class!

Today the little DS was invited to a roller skating party- since there is 11 years between him and the bigger DS, it’s been a while since I’ve roller skated, but I’m happy to say that I didn’t forget how. I’ve slowed down and the little DS was kind enough to point out that I was the slowest skater out there (disagree as I wasn’t holding onto the railing). Anyway it was good exercise!

Having done AC too, Martaj, I am definitely commiserating with you. It will really be uphill after finishing......even surgery should not be as bad; because you start healing and feeling better & better once it's done without having to go back and do it again (and again, and again).

I went to Yoga & Barre this afternoon. I am supposed to sub tomorrow but we are in a Winter Storm Warning and it is snowing like crazy. We shall see. I've already told DH that if it's bad & school is still on, he may have to drive me. He kind of likes the challenge of driving up & down hills through deep snow with limited visibility.....I do NOT!! Shocked

You all might find this interesting:

Ruth, so good to read your positive Nidra experiences. Martaj, chiming in that energy will return - hang in there. Varga, sending you a big hug and shout out!

I've been very busy with, classes and now new BodyBalance release to learn with this one particularly hard on shoulders (4 tracks of vinyasa flow) and pulling together Christmas. One of my classes on Thursday has been cancelled due to the studio is used for voting. Big PM election, well sort of, as parliamentary voting system happens in the constituencies level. Needless to say, a fat, lying jackass who never combs his hair will most likely remain PM. Have a good start to the week everyone!

GoKale, I've heard from others too how long it will take to feel somewhat normal again in my shoulder. But it gets a little better week by week. I see my ortho on Monday, I will ask her about scar tissue. I started PT 6 weeks after the break, hopefully I got it moving in time - the PT says I'm doing well, but they can always find a way to move it that just kills!

Haven't been very consistent with exercise, but I am working classical stretch back into my life, which makes my whole body feel good. Still haven't picked up walking again, it's just such a crazy time of year to get back into a routine - but I know that is just an excuse. And I count PT as exercise :)

    Howdy everyone!

Busy time of year to fit everything but looks like you ladies are doing great! I have been running 4-5x a week since Oct and happy that I am keeping my base mileage up during these cold and dark monhs. Best decision to join a running group in Oct.

Tonight's 5 mile group run had been moved inside, due to the fact that the wind chill will be -25* F at 5pm today. I have been running outside up until this cold snap. Ran 5 miles on Sunday in a -13* F wind chill and it wasn't bad considering that had been the coldest temps I have ran in since last winter. -25* f is a different beast though! I had an extra special run last Sat morning. A former high school Cross Country teammate flew home so we could visit a teammate that is home on hospice care and may not make it to Christmas. Before we left on the 5 hr road trip, we drove over to our old high school and ran one of our old CC routes together. Hadn't ran with her in over 30 yrs and even though the day was difficult and hard and we both shed some tears on that run, our hearts were warm.

Edited to add one of my grandmas cookbooks...a prized possesion.

    image

Karen I have my late grandmother's rolling pin, cookie cutters and many many cookbooks. I also have her 2 old Betty Crocker cook books...the oldest one from 1950! 💓
