Kale, I did break my shoulder on the same side as my affected breast. I did have radiation, and was on Tamoxifen for 2 years and Anastrozole for 5 years (my onc is a 7 year guy). The anastrozole is known to weaken bones, but my last bone density test a couple of years ago was OK for my age. The ortho did not mention anything about my bones being weaker because of BC. But she is a PA, and I think this is her first job, so I don't put much stock in that. Was supposed to see her today, but they cancelled, wanted to reschedule me Dec. 23rd, but I declined til after the holidays. They also bumped me down to once a week PT, and I will probably "graduate" around the first week of January.

Got some terrible news this morning about a friend - she has stage 4 bone cancer. She broke her hip randomly (not falling), and needed surgery, and thats when they discovered her weakened bones - she is now at Mass General, and the prognosis is very poor. This all happened in the last couple of weeks, her aches and pains over the last year she attributed to getting older and lack of consistent exercise (she's in her 50's). Just devastating.

Pat01 so sorry to hear about your friend. This is not a recurrence for her, just came out of nowhere? What a shock. Prayers for everyone concerned.

I ran 20 minutes on the treadmill this morning plus my normal walk from the parking lot to the office ( I count almost everything!). Sometimes I’m a courier for my job which is a nice perk and today I walked 30 minutes round trip to pick up something. I live in the South Eastern part of the United States so late Fall and Winter are ideal walking seasons

I plan on doing another short run after work.

Pat, such heartbreaking news and so sorry to read of this diagnosis. IAmACat, started Pink Ribbon Pilates with another instructor in February 2013 as there was nothing out here in this part of Kent. It's hung in there and still, this weekly Pilates class and my Yoga For Cancer, the only classes of this type within 20 miles. Trying hard not to despair and have begged the leisure centre (where I teach two classes a week), to offer active recovery pathways in cancer, and they are not interested. The leisure centre is changing leaseholder in February and the new management, Freedom Leisure does have cancer rehabilitation in other centres they manage, so fingers crossed change may come about. Off later this morning to Pilates and last yoga for cancer class this year. Here is a photo of our Pink Ribbon coffee morning from yesterday.image

Been awake since 3:30 am. I went to bed "early", 10:30 and that's what I get!!! That's why I try to stay up till 11:30 so I sleep till 4:30 or 5:00. Doesn't make sense to DH but waking up at 3:30 is not my idea of fun!! Leaving shortly with DH for his colonoscopy - he's on the 3 year schedule! Then off to work once he's done and back home.

Brrr, its 10F this morning but warming up to 40s and by the week-end high 50s :) . Long range forecast is a dry and somewhat warm (high 30s-low 40s) Christmas - no snow in the forecast for Denver (maybe mountains)

    Have a great day.

LOL @karen1956, I get up at 3:30 am almost every day! Of course that means I go to be by 8, a girl needs her sleep.

Marathon training was supposed to kick off today but here in the Kansas City area, we got probably 7 inches of snow between Sunday and yesterday, and it's not leaving. So I did weights today.

I'm going to Pound in a couple minutes, Nidra at noon, a half hour Barre sculpt later in the afternoon, and basketball tonight. In between, I am going shopping and buying all the non-perishable Christmas groceries, trying to beat the rush.

    Great picture, Lilac!

edj - if I went to bed at 8, I would be up by 2:00 am!!!! I don't sleep more than 5 - 6 hours max and that is with Rx help. I generally try to stay up till 11:30 so I sleep till 5 or so. I leave for work at 7:00 am so I need to get up early anyway. I often lay in bed and read fb on my phone from 5 to 5:30 or 5:45 then get my shower. When I don't wimp out, I walk at 6:30, but the its been cold so I haven't been good about walking every morning.

Late IEP meeting this afternoon - went from 3:15 to 5:15 - it was scheduled for 3:15 - 4:30, but I knew with the interpreter it wouldn't be done by then, but I thought we'd be done by 5 for sure. But I'm part of the reason it went long as I had many questions about disability - with a nice discussion with the mom (information that we did not have), I left feeling really good about the outcome. The family has only been in the country for 2 years. The school is one that only has a . social worker, so when cognitive testing is needed they pay for float School Psychology time - I'm the float who does the assessments - as well as cover a building 3 days/week. I like the variety so I'm not complaining. I've been doing assessments for . this school for 3 years so I know the special education well.

Two more days til I"m officially on winter vacation!! Thursday afternoon is our bi-weekly central team meeting. it is our book study week then our "holiday" party. It is off campus at the end of the day. We are doing a white elephant - one that is real stuff, not junk. Since its not at a school district building I went out on a limb and included a bottle of red wine. First I got a nice holiday candle on sale - then I went to Trader Joes - and turned the rest of the items into a Trader Joe's gift bag, including one of their $1 bags - merlot, chocolate covered pretzels, sour swimmers (chewy candy), candy can herbal tea and Cranberry sparkling juice. I'm going to write that I read that wine and chocolate is good for the face (I forget the exact quote).

DD#2 tagged me on fb on a page from the Denver Dumb Friends League which is one of the local animal shelters that they are having a sell on adoption fees - do you think that was a subtle hint that we need to get another dog!! And she only spends about a month/year in America!!! In looking at memories on fb, I found a post from 2012 where I wrote "My DD told me this afternoon that she is glad that I'm stubborn. She was 14 at the time and in 9th grade!!!

Looking for something last night that I put away for safe keeping - and of course I don't remember where (and fearful I threw it away :( not good as it is important) and I decided to look in the piano bench. The top think in the piano bench is a photo from around 1965 of my maternal grandparents, my parents and my brother and I. I don't remember what the event was, we were all dressed up, but I think it was one of my mother's cousin's wedding. What is wild is in the picture, my grandparents in 1965 were younger than my husband and I are now. I sent the photo to my kids - my older daughter wanted to know who was standing next to my grandparents (my parents) and she goes, Papa (what she called my dad) sure was handsome! Yes he was. And my grandmother was a beauty. Funny story - she won Miss Old Orchard Beach in 1946. Her and my grandfather were away on vacation - they were dancing and she got asked to enter the contest. Funny thing is - she wasn't a Miss, wasn't American and had a kid!! They lived in Montreal. I have the trophy she won - its quite tarnished and I think a little out of shape. They called it the pee cup - can you guess why?

Well, I've rambled on and on enough about myself. Need to get back to packing - trying to see how much room I have after I pack all the stuff I have for my DD#2. i . bought 10 bags of chocolate after Halloween that was on sell for 70% on 11/01. Plus other chocolate, coffee, clothes she ordered. I'm guessing half the 50#s or more will be for her!

    Sweet dreams. Stay warm

What can I say, I like to front load my day and get my work outs done before I leave for work around 6:15--6:30.

Today should have been a run day but I don't run on snow/ice, so I did an hour if HIIT.

Photo is from this morning around 4:30.

as much as I wanted to run -- strength training for me -- it all starts back up tomorrow and the journey is real -- Boston bound while on Tamoxifen -- lets see if this works out. My doctor knows that running is the priority so I'm trying to track all my feels.

edj - beautiful, but yikes! yesterday was 68 in SE Virginia...and today will "only" be 47, so I wore a heavy parka when I went to school this morning, it was 36 at the time.

Have been keeping up on the exercise, added a yoga conditioning class, which is a boot camp for inversions. Doesn't seem fair that anything that includes the word yoga should be so strenuous as no one outside the class gives it any credit since it is a yoga class!

    Happy Wednesday, TT

I am so sorry about your friend, Pat.

Good news from here: I am done with radiation!!! Yay!! After a brief stop in the bay area to visit friends, I am heading home to New Mexico...can't wait. In the meantime, I did nothing yesterday, I was just too tired. But today heading out for a long walk!

Yea Octo. So glad you are done with rads!!!

Here are the Wednesday Walking Women wearing our 'Ugly Sweaters' after our walk (my lovely outfit can be found at Walmart). I am off in a few minutes to finish buying all the non-perishable groceries (I ran out of time yesterday) and taking a taste of a new dessert that I made. I'm hosting my Book Club tonight & the dessert seemed a little 'iffy' when I made it last night. It is supposed to rest in the fridge for 8 hours, so we'll see if I need to think of a Plan B or not.

Always look forward to the weekly picture Ruth...

Went to the gym at lunch and am doing a 90min restorative yoga after school today.

I'm a wimp, still happily in my big parka at 46 degrees...I grew up in New England but 30 years in Virginia has changed me! TT

Thanks for the kind words about my friend. It is such a shock. This is her first cancer. I'm at a loss as to what to do, as she is in a hospital about 90 minutes away, and I have a houseful of company arriving Friday. It is her longtime roommate who is a very close friend, also a very private person. My husband called her about something, and she gave him minimal details and was crying, and this woman is not a cryer. I called a mutual friend to get details. I really need to pick up the phone and call her (the not sick one), but I can't form one single sentence in my head other than I'm so sorry. I did hear she is surrounded by good friends of both of them, so at least I know she is not alone.

Octo, so glad you are done with radiation (again!). Hope you regain your strength quickly.

I did classical stretch today, but I am nowhere near making exercise a habit again, however I did decorate the house finally, and the tree is almost done. Now to finish cleaning the house before Friday. Oh and I had PT yesterday - he had me doing planks to strengthen my shoulders! So that definitely counts as exercise (even though they were 10 second planks LOL).

    edjd,

Beautiful pic. It is a whopping 16 degrees here in RI with the wind a whipping. Will attempt my walk with the dog as soon as sun comes out. If it comes out. Very cold. Starting to get some energy back, only one more AC (27) then done with chemo!!!!!! Can't wait to get back to my self and exercise more regular. Of course surgery coming up. Nervous but want all cancer cells gone!!!!! Triple neg breast cancer Stage 3

Martaj, what part of RI? My mother spent part of her childhood in Providence, and we lived in Boston for 5 years. So glad you're nearly done with chemo and good luck with the surgery.

I did an hour of yoga today, the snow hasn't melted enough for me to run safely. I run in the dark, and black ice just doesn't show well.

Yesterday was a 30 minute Leslie Sansone walking video. It felt good and my fitbit called it aerobics. I'll take it!

Depending on the weather tomorrow may be the same.

I'm officially on winter break. Our central team holiday party was a lot of fun!! First time it was off site - fun white elephant exchange. My boss also had two games - riddles to figure out Christmas songs and a huge, and I mean huge ball of plastic wrap with goodies wrapped inside. The first person starts and the next person rolls 2 dice till they get double...then it is their turn to unwrap and it continues till its empty. My boss used 1 1/2 rolls of plastic wrap - lots of fun little things wrapped up including hershey kisses and other chocolate.

Very short of steps today - need to get out and walk as soon as I finished grilling the chicken for dinner tonight.

    Happy Friday
