Oh Ruth I am so very sorry. I hope you recover both quickly and fully.

((Ruth)) sorry for the COVID result and feeling lousy. You are in great shape otherwise so I hope that lessens the impact and speeds your recovery.
Walked yesterday.

Oh Ruth, so sorry to hear this. Hope you feel better soon and make a full recovery.

Ruth, I hope you feel better soon. I bet your grandpuppies are not happy about this!

I am sure the grandpuppies are very sad. I know I am missing them a lot!! I need my puppy snuggles!

Saw the orthopedist today, he's referred me to an ankle/foot orthopedist in his practice. He says at this point it makes sense to consider surgery. I'll get that consult after Thanksgiving.
I see the ortho/onco specialist on Thursday. My regular ortho all but rolled his eyes at that but tough. I would far rather rule out the smallest of chances of bone mets before we start slicing and dicing and inserting pins, a plate and cadaver bone in my foot. Oh and he made a point of saying I should stop all high impact aerobic work like running or cardio. Dude, yes, I know. I did stop a long time ago, and it's still not healed.

Ruth - I hope you turn the corner on this and start feeling better.
Edj3 - thinking positive thoughts for you for an easy fix.
All I have been doing lately is walking, stretching and abdominal exercises. I hurt my sciatica with that long hike over a week ago. So the stretches I found online are for the sciatica and abdominal work is supposed to help my back.Love reading about the joys and benefits of bike riding. I ride my daughter’s bike that I picked out for her 7 years ago (with the idea that it would eventually be my bike). I do feel like a kid when I ride.

Power walked with weights today.
edj3---I hope you get some answers and support at your appt Thursday. It is always better to be safe than sorry and making sure this isn't bone mets is a very wise idea.

Record high 76 today!
Several counties are moving to Red on Friday per governor orders. He added a new higher level Purple! He won't do stay at home orders unless hospitals become overwhelmed. The biggest impact is for restaurants. No more in door dining. Outdoor dining only if from same family. restaurants can do take out. Last call for alcohol moving to 8 (was 10). This is really going to hurt restaurants. The news reported that only 10% of cases from restaurants compared to other places. No changes for houses of worship. He's encouraging universities to be fully online, high schools to be online or hybrid, same for middle school and elementary schools can do any (in person, hybrid or remote). Most of the school districts in the metro Denver area are already going remote. My school district (except for charter schools) are remote for grades 3 - 12 through the semester.
Ruth hoping you are feeling a little better.
Heading out for a walk.

Hi ladies, I felt a little better today. Only took one nap, wandered around the house a little, and was actually hungry. So I hope that I'm on the upswing. If things go well, my quarantine will end midnight of the 22nd. I am definitely NOT going to overdo anything, now and not for a couple weeks afterward. I definitely do not want to relapse and have to deal with a worse rendition of this. Interesting times.....0

Prayers going to you Ruth, and thank you for taking the effort to keep us up to date. Glad you had a "better" day,
It was cold this morning for VA, 37...so I wore a real coat to school with gloves...I am such a wimp after 35+ years in VA. My Massachusetts cousins would laugh. My school is in finals, we started early and end next Wednesday, keeping fingers crossed that we make to the finish line. The students then are out of classroom until Feb 1st. We are predicting the two months of Dec/Jan to truly be our darkest days...take care everyone. TT

Take care Ruth!
It was really cold and windy here today. Didn't go out much because I was freezing, not so much from the cold but the wind! Took Nugget for a quick walk and a quick jaunt to the store.

Power walked with weights this morning.
Ruth, I hope you are continuing to feel a bit better and that your recovery is going smoothly.

Hi ladies, thanks for your continued good wishes! I had my first fever-free day today & could actually taste the pepper DH poured all over the supper, so I'm thinking that I might be on the mend. It was a gorgeous 50 degrees so I did sneak outside for a few minutes (just to get the mail).

Definitely on the mend, Ruth. So glad you are at this point. Better times ahead. - Claire

Ruth - glad to hear that you are on the mend. My son has Covid - he told us Saturday night - headache and lack of smell, but on Monday and today when we talked he was feeling better. It took from Monday till Friday for him to get the test results. They are taking longer now to get test results because so many people are getting testing. In Denver area, some of the testing sites have long lines running into the street causing a safety concern and 2+ hours wait. Thankfully he didn't have a bad case.
My school district announced today that after Friday till the end of the semester everyone is remote - that pretty much is ECE-2 plus some self-contained sped programs. Numbers are rising, but also they are having trouble staffing classrooms. My intern got pulled into a kdg classroom for 3 hours today to just be body in the room - principal put her in a tough spot. The email to the district said in January all elementary will be in person, middle school and high school they were still trying to figure out. Personally, I think they are being quite optimistic. Hearing on the news that the health care providers are feeling like nobody cares about them anymore - they aren't feeling the love like they did last spring. No more signs of appreciation or meals being sent to the hospital.
Supposedly it was 72 today, but it certainly didn't feel that warm - probably because not much sun. DH fired up two smokers and we smoked 4 turkey wings, 4 turkey drumsticks, 5 chicken thighs and 2 whole chickens. The freezer is full. That's probably 6 or 7 meals!! We'll eat a couple turkey wings and drumsticks over the Thanksgiving week-end. I'll make sweet potatoes and stuffing. Haven't decided about cranberries as DH doesn't eat them and I only eat it with turkey - so a lot of waste if I make it. Not sure about pie either...maybe pumpkin, but after a couple days we are done with it and that's probably only half a pie - thinking of apple cherry crisp, but DH doesn't eat that either. This sounds like DH is picky -but he really isn't. He's quite easy to cook for. When it comes to dessert he has his favorites. A few bundt cakes and all the cookies I bake. A bundt cake can last us 4 weeks. I cut it in 4 sections and freeze 3 when I bake and take them out as we need them. Baking was a lot more fun when the kids were home or even after they were gone and I could bring cookies to work. It's too expensive to mail them to my kids out of the country.
One more day to my work week, then I'm off all of next week. DH took the week off as well, which is really only 2 days or maybe 3, but I think he gets, W,Th,F off. He has to use up his vacation as he can only carry over 5 days so he is taking the last 2 weeks of the year off, which is my winter vacation. That's only 7 days due to work holidays. I think he gets 5 week/year, but being off work for almost 4 months, he didn't use any vacations days and there is no traveling.
DD#2 sent me a text this morning, that Israel is going to let families of new immigrants (less than 4 years - and 4 years for her is May). As long as they stop the need to quarantine and I get my passport we will plan a trip. I'll take the time off work beginning of the year as I doubt I'll have my passport by winter break. I need to read the article she sent me more closely to get the details. Now need to find out when Canada will open its borders to Americans.
Everyone stay safe and stay healthy.
Sweet dreams

Good early morning. Geeze, only a couple weeks after the time change and its dark again at 6am. Using my Cubii till 6:30 and will go for a walk/run. Have an 8am phone conference so need to be on time this morning. Pretty much in zoom meetings all day. I do have a 30 minute break after the 8 call, then a break at 1:30 for an hour - lunch and walk and check emails. Then I go till 4. Exhausting day looking at the screen all day.
Ruth, keep feeling better.
Everyone stay safe and healthy

Ruth, so glad to hear you are fever-free now. Meds are most likely working. Karen, hope your son is also on the mend. We are finally seeing some flattening but not sure how long it will last.
edj, 100% agree to rule out mets in the foot.
gokale, I'm having lower back problems too after a hike with an elevation gain like our covid curve. Haven't really done much about it but it has gotten better.
Went to see a genetic counsellor as recommended by my MO. Still waiting for insurance to approve testing. The doctor says good chance they will as I meet all the criteria. OTOH it was reassuring she said that my brother's genetic testing did not find any germline mutations. If insurance doesn't approve, I may have the option of sending my saliva to the US for testing for a fraction of the cost here.

Ruth, glad you are feeling better! Have you read Brave Companions: Portraits in History by David McCullough? I'm culling the bookcase and it's yours if you'd like it.
Karen, glad to hear your son is feeling better, too.
Windy here too yesterday but got out for a walk around the block nevertheless. Needed the fresh air and exercise. Mom had a stroke early Tuesday morning and has been in the ICU since then. There's a blood clot in her brain they couldn't dissolve (too late) or suck out (too deep). The left side of her body isn't functioning. She can talk but speech is slurred. She can't swallow but consented to a feeding tube. They will move her to a non-ICU bed today and she will be in hospital several more days. The nurse let me talk to her on a cell phone but of course I can't visit. I should be able to talk to a doctor today about prognosis and treatment. Doesn't look good for her QOL. Hospital social worker is coming up with a care plan and we will talk about discharge options. Mom will need skilled nursing care and won't be able to return to her senior living apartment.
It's supposed to be 60 here today so I will grab the cell phone and get outside for a walk in a while.

Ruth, I'm super glad to hear your news. Karen, hope your son recovers both quickly and fully.
My little not-quite 10 month old granddaughter may have been exposed, and she's sick. My son & his wife won't get the test results until probably Monday but for now they are treating it as though she has the virus and quarantining. Here she is nearly a month ago modeling the (bigger replacement) hat I made for her. The girl is not petite!
I see the specialist at 2 today, hope his input/advice helps clarify things for me.

edj - she's adorable. Sure hope she recovers fully. So hard to be a sick baby
Badger, sorry to hear about your mother.
Time to get on my first of many zoom meetings for today

Ruth - so glad you are feeling better.
Edj3- positive thoughts for you today. I hope your granddaughter recovers quickly. She is adorable!
Badger- so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you are able to sort through the options for her and find a good situation. Prayers for her recovery
Heidi- good job with that hard hike. It’s great to have that ability. My back/sciatica area is stiff during the day (and I stretch and walk around frequently throughout the day). But evenings I go on a long walk and then it’s painful and I take an Advil before bed. Today I am going to swap the walk for some yoga and see how I feel.
Karen- sounds like a pleasant time with the vacation days around the holidays. It’s comforting to have food prepared and ready to go.

Badger, I am so very sorry to read about your dear mom's stroke. I pray things will stabilize and that the damage won't be as bad as you fear. It is heartbreaking to guide our parents through declining health. I like any book with the words 'history' and 'McCullough' attached to it!
Edj, your granddaughter is adorable! I sure hope she does okay. I hope your appointment today really gives you some answers and direction.
Karen, hope your son's case stays mild. I'm drooling at your food descriptions, so must be getting better!

She tested positive for COVID. This year
The doctor today was wonderful. He answered all my questions and does think I'm in the clear re any potential bone mets (which I figured but still, this is my health and no one else will be as diligent as I will be about potential issues). He also believes surgery is the next logical step and so I will see the foot/ankle ortho after Thanksgiving.0 -
Oh damn about the positive test! I hope she has a very mild case, poor baby. So glad your doctor appointment was good. It is wonderful to find a doctor you feel connected to. My current doctor is so-so (nice guy but in very ill health himself which has affected his engagement). I had a virtual appointment with a new PA at the clinic the other day and liked her so much (she checked in on me again today) that I'm considering changing over to her as my primary contact. I'm contemplating pretty fast because I have an annual physical coming up soon. Since I don't see the oncology people anymore, I need my primary physician (or PA) to reallt be on top of things for my own peace of mind.

Runnermum- great workout! I so look forward to getting back to better workouts.
Edj3- that’s really great news about your foot. Hopefully, you can get it fixed soon and get back to your normal routine.
Ruth - so nice you have found a good doctor. I think I’m due for a checkup. Can’t decide if I should try to fit in before the end of the year or wait.0 -
Grace is still pretty ill and now my son (her dad) has symptoms. He's the one w/ type 1 diabetes.
