HeidiHill, good on the testing and wow, those are quite a bit of reps.

I have a question. When you take a zoom class in anything, Pilates, dance, yoga, tai chi, etc.. what is it that keeps you coming back? Is it connection, like the way the teacher teaches, know your friends are doing it too, whatever it is, I'm very curious as what the draw to that particular zoom class is and keeps you with it. - thanks! :)

When we were in lock-down, I took Zoom classes offered by my fitness center because I loved those classes, the teachers, and the people in them. It wasn't as much fun as being together in person, but a lot better than doing an impersonal DVD or walking on the treadmill. My Yoga teacher is still teaching through Zoom because she works in a Covid Unit at a hospital. She has had her first shot of the vaccine. Maybe after she gets the second dose, she will be able to come back in person. There are people who do drop off when classes go to Zoom, but some come back after awhile because the miss the exercise and the connection.

    Great news, Heidi!

Day 8 of the glute challenge (100 squats so I did half normal, and half wide leg), plus 20 one leg bridges on each side. I do an inner thigh exercise, no idea what it's called: lie on your back with your legs straight but pointed out like to 10 and 2. Toss the stability ball up and catch and press with your feet, then drop down. Repeat another 39 times.

I also ran this morning. I wish I knew why my heart rate jumps up when I blow my nose, it's aggravating.

Lilac, I don't go to gyms or use live Zoom classes but do recorded ones and for those, it's a combo of whether the workout is challenging and if I find the instructor appealing. I cannot stand shrieking and fake energy so if I run across something like that (which I have), I stop that video right away and find another.

That's why, 'back in the olden days' I liked Richard Simmons. He was fun & encouraging, and had people of all shapes and sizes working out with him.

I have two coats of paint on in the bathroom. To get to the ceiling I had to climb to the top of the vanity, have DH keep dipping the brush into the paint & handing it to me, and also help me down! Yikes!! I am going on the treadmill while it dries & then see if I have to do any touch-ups. I had planned on painting the inside of the (deep) linen closet, but have decided against for now. I also need to touch up the doors & frames which I, perhaps foolishly, painted white a number of years ago.

Ladies, this is my most favorite thread and I have followed it for years. I get so much inspiration and support from you all. Why did Zogo have to ruin it with such a nasty comment to Ruth and LilacBlue? I thought about it for two days before I posted, but it has really bothered me. I hope we don't have to censure this great thread because of a member who doesn't participate in it. I didn't see anything in the initial post that said we could not post anything outside of "posting our daily exercise." And I don't think anyone posts more regarding daily exercise than Ruth and Lilac. Sorry, I am just upset by her comment.

Today I told a twenty year younger co-worker that we should go do a plank. So we went out into the class hallway and did a plank !!! It was so weird and good. The idea just popped into my head and I went with it. Haha!

Coffee, don't let it bother you. I shouldn't have put in the name of the politician I thought was responsible & deleted that part of my post. I don't want someone to NOT come here because of politics. We certainly can express our general feeling about things going on in the world though, because that's part of life.

I did an hour on the treadmill, then touched up the bathroom. I'll do the trim tomorrow. I am now going to sit here, watch Netflex, and drink some wine from the RBG glass I got for Christmas. Cheers!

Together, your plank story reminds me of something that happened to me a couple years ago. I was on a Girls Weekend with my sister, SIL, my two 20-something nieces and one of their friends (who teaches fitness classes). For some reason, planks came up in conversation. I have a picture of me and the 3 girls doing planks in the hotel room with our feet anchored on one bed and arms on the other in full plank position. (I must say that I was quite pleased with myself!)

karen, if I could I'd fly to Israel and get those shots! Vaccines are on a very slow roll here. I think it's criminal. Vaccines cost a pittance relative to a healthcare system breaking down (and the economy with it) and they couldn't order enough?!?!! They even produce the Moderna ones here but they are all shipped out. This is about Swiss politics so hope no one minds.

lilac, I am not on zoom classes but still continue to give Zumba to my friends and relatives on a chat platform, not ideal but easy. I choose exercise videos on Youtube that are music only if possible, although some Spanish or Korean is ok as it blends with the Latin or KPop music and I don't understand most of what they say anyway. I try to simplify the choreography for my mostly elderly audience. But I don't charge anything, so they are happy to stick it out.

Together, I can't say I've ever had the urge to plank!

Yesterday was a glute challenge rest day to give my posterior chain a chance to recover. Although I did 30 (unweighted) squats during 1 1/2 hours of Zumba.

He is cute Ruth and how is the bathroom painting coming along? Coffeelatte, you are so kind yet Ruth is by far the true holder-togetherer (like that word?) of Let's Post our Daily Exercise! Together, I love it - drop and plank!:) Karen, I read Israel has nearly completed vaccinating the whole country. That is great HeidiHill and when teaching older populations, I too stick with a base music selection for the older populations class and changed one or two tracks every few weeks - but not the whole class. My husband told me that he read today that 60% of France will not take the vaccine vs, 77% of UK population that will. A friend of mine got his second jab today (they say that rather than 'shots' here) so is complete and 84 years old. His 78 year old wife is waiting for her call to come in for her first vaccine jab.

Thanks for answering my zoom class question as to what attracts and keeps you in online classes. Fitness instructors seem to find it easier platform to teach on than yoga teachers I know. Most will do it and are not having a sense of reward in doing so vs. fitness who find it's the opposite. I have two Pilates classes a week with a fantastic instructor that my sis has followed for about fifteen years. It's great to see my sis on a zoom class twice a week and today I have qi gong in a half hour with with a lovely guy Inverness California. For me it's attraction and connection.

Heidi - Great news on the genetic testing!

Ruth - Sounds like your painting project is now complete. Yippee!

Lilac - Re: Zoom classes - The ones offered by my Cancer Support Community offer the ability to re-connect with both the instructors and attendees who I was used to seeing in person - instructors upbeat, caring & always thankful to those of us attending. The Silver Sneakers ones - instructors also very are upbeat & project a caring attitude, open to feedback/questions/modifications to make work easier or more intense, always thank attendees for coming to the classes, some add in daily uplifting thoughts to their classes. The largest number of attendees so far in a Silver Sneakers class was 1,700 so I think they have a good formula!

    Keep on exercising everyone!

The bathroom painting is complete. We are to get a new tub & surround the end of the month so it needed to be done before then, which it is. I decided to leave painting the inside of the linen closet for a later date; but I took everything out of it, threw away expired medications, bottles of old 3/4 used sunscreen etc. etc., and put down new contact paper. I am tired!!!!!!

Good Sunday morning, as usual I'm up by 5:30 - used the Cubii for and hour and then went out and did the driveway - we only got 2" and it was soft and fluffy so I used the big. push broom (someone here suggested it) and it was so much easier than the shovel. We have a large driveway and I think it only took me 15 minutes or so. Weather is warming up starting today through the week. By Wednesday it should be near 50F.

Managed to get through the first week of school for spring semester. Lots of meetings and 6 hours of online training. My coverage is changing again. I'll only be at the middle school 2 days starting the 19th and then early to mid February 1 day at an elementary school which I have covered for maternity leaves before. I also have a kdg kiddo to test this week, another student coming up and as a favor to test an 8th grader at one of the schools I cover only for testing. Got my masks, face shield, plexiglass divider for testing and wipes and lysol spray. To be honest, I'm a little nervous, as its been 10 months since I've really been in a building except in twice in the face for 40 minutes or so to test a student. The middle school is hybrid and the elementary is full in person, but I don't know how many of their students are staying remote.

Positivity rate is rising again - over 8% - DH and I believe the lower numbers were that people were not testing. I was tested Friday as I wanted a baseline before going back into the schools. Got the results last night and of course I tested negative (I haven't been anywhere). Now I'll start testing every 2 weeks per the district guidelines.

Ruth - pictures of the bathroom please.

All you gals who are doing planks, crunches, zoom pilates, zumba etc are amazing. I haven't joined an exercise class in over 20 years. I need to rev up my exercise besides walking as I've gained a couple pounds since the start of the year - snacking more than I should. If I just stop snacking, the 2# will come off. I had been doing so good not snacking for months and months. MY weight is still good, just don't like seeing it creep up.

Off to jump in the shower as I have an hour till I have a synagogue meeting.

    Have a great Sunday.

Karen, I am tired just reading your school schedule! Here is one bathroom picture. I will take another when the new bathtub and surround are in. The previous color of the bathroom was a horrible mint green.

It's sunny and mild so I plan to take a walk and go to Barre Sculpt.

I like the color too Ruth. What is it called?

BTW - I didn't walk my 6 miles today. 40 degrees and nasty cold rain. May even have snow flurries tonight. And this is Houston for goodness sake.

The paint is called Annapolis Gray. The interesting thing about it is that it seems to change colors depending on the lighting and the colors you put with it. I found it when we were redoing our main level & I have it in the living room, hall, on one wall in the kitchen & on three walls in both bedrooms. The accent wall in one bedroom is a apple red & a sea blue in the other & the Annapolis Gray looks totally different in both rooms. (I should have painted the bathroom at the same time as I did all the other rooms but I ran out of steam!).

DS was babysitting his girlfriend's dog today so we brought him lunch & then helped him walk the dogs. I don't think even he could have done all three at once!

    I also like that color.

I drink about six Pepsi zero cans a day. I assume that's fine since they're diet. But after listening to my kid bug me, I'm going to TRY and change my drinking habits : I ordered caffeinated water and spicy vegetable juice to come in the mail this week. Today she made me green tea and I only had two cans of pop. Every night I drink water for bedtime because I just love waking up to pee (jk). I told her I'd give it five days of seeing if much less pop makes a difference! I consider this a part of my new exercise regimen. Exercise, keeping better track of calories, now potentially changing drink - I've gone nuts!

I did a power yoga video this morning (Fat Burning Yoga by Sarah Ivanhoe) plus the glute challenge (40 single leg thrusts each side, 40 donkey kicks each side).

Had a really bad bout of vertigo on Saturday and spent several hours puking :( That pretty much took the starch out of me this weekend.

Yeouch, edj. That sounds awful. I don't know anything about vertigo. Does something trigger it, or does it come out of nowhere?

I went to Pound this morning & will do Zumba tonight. It is sunny and completely & unusually mild so I see some dog walking time this afternoon.

oh no, edj! Ive had vertigo as well but never had to throw up. One time I had to stay in bed for three days as the room would start spinning everytime I got up. I had some neck injury and again physical therapy, and lots of it, helped.

Yesterday was a 3 hour walk with the dog and DH and 30 squats, 30 backward lunges and 30 bridges (to make up for bridge deficit and in lieu of frog bumps) Today was Zumba and will do more glute exercises later.

I had this happen 5 or 6 years ago, several episodes and all bad enough that I no joke puked for hours. It's wretched and I hope to never feel it again.

I very carefully did yoga this morning plus the glute challenge. Today's challenge was 40 single leg hip thrusts per side, and 40 donkey kicks per side.

Celia, I've read so many good things about Silver Sneakers on this thread and your cancer recovery community sounds good too. Karen, I'm with you on the snacking and for me not all the time, the wrong times and on what - chocolate is my kryptonite and my hips will confirm. Hi Coffeelatte and Minus Two!

edj: I am so sorry about the vertigo! That is awful!

Not much exercise for me: Kad-zilla # 14 knocked me down hard. But today I had a one hour virtual personal training session (Including my new knock-off TRX straps) and then got on the erg for 1,000 meters. I do plan to catch up and row 100,000 in January as well, once I bounce back a bit more.

Everyone else: I am so impressed with your workouts!

edj - glad you are feeling better - my youngest daughter had a horrid case of vertigo in the spring during the height of covid. She was too sick to even get out of bed for several days. Thankfully she has great roommates who took care of her, including cleaning up after her, getting her Rx and getting her food to eat when she could eat.

I've been doing my Cubii for an hour every morning. I set my apple watch to eliptical, but it doesn't count as steps. I wonder if I put it as walk if it would count. It counts in my exercise calories, but not exercise total or steps.

By Wednesday we should be near 60 then cooling off towards the week-end. Saturday into Sunday, we got 1-2 soft powder snow, so I used the broom to clear the sidewalk and the driveway. I forget who suggested the broom, but thanks.
