Edj, glad you are recovering from that episode of vertigo!

It was nice enough today for a 30-minute walk.

An older friend emailed me these jokes. They're kind of corny but thought I'd share anyway.

    Winking

My goal for 2020 was to lose 10 pounds. Only have 14 to go.

Ate salad for dinner. Mostly croutons and tomatoes. Really just one big round crouton covered with tomato sauce, and cheese. FINE, it was a pizza.... OK, I ate a pizza! Are you happy now?

I just did a week's worth of cardio after walking into a spider web.

I don't mean to brag, but I finished my 14-day diet food supply in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

A recent study has found women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented. I forgot where I was going with this.

I love approaching 80, I learn something new every day and forget 5 other things.

A thief broke into my house last night. He started searching for money so I got up and searched with him.

Just remember, once you're over the hill you begin to pick up speed.

Having plans sounds like a good idea until you have to put on clothes and leave the house.

It's weird being the same age as old people.

When I was a kid I wanted to be older…this is not what I expected.

Life is like a helicopter. I don't know how to operate a helicopter.

It's probably my age that tricks people into thinking I'm an adult.

Marriage Counselor: Your wife says you never buy her flowers. Is that true? Me: To be honest, I never knew she sold flowers.

Never sing in the shower! Singing leads to dancing, dancing leads to slipping, and slipping leads to paramedics seeing you naked. So remember…Don't sing!

If 2020 was a math word-problem: If you're going down a river at 2 MPH and your canoe loses a wheel, how much pancake mix would you need to re-shingle your roof?

I see people about my age mountain climbing; I feel good getting my leg through my underwear without losing my balance.

So if a cow doesn't produce milk, is it a milk dud or an udder failure?

If you can't think of a word say "I forgot the English word for it." That way people will think you're bilingual instead of an idiot.

I'm at a place in my life where errands are starting to count as going out.

Cronacoaster: noun; the ups and downs of a pandemic. One day you're loving your bubble, doing work outs, baking banana bread and going for long walks and the next you're crying, drinking gin for breakfast and missing people you don't even like.

I'm at that age where my mind still thinks I'm 29, my humor suggests I'm 12, while my body mostly keeps asking if I'm sure I'm not dead yet.

Don't be worried about your smartphone or TV spying on you. Your vacuum cleaner has been collecting dirt on you for years.

I'm getting tired of being part of a major historical event.

I don't always go the extra mile, but when I do it's because I missed my exit.

At what point can we just start using 2020 as profanity? As in: "That's a load of 2020." or "What in the 2020." or "abso-2020-lutely."

You don't realize how old you are until you sit on the floor and then try to get back up.

We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

As a last resort, read the manual! Happy

Apparently winter is scheduled to return sometime on Thursday, so we will definitely be walking the dogs today & tomorrow while it's still so mild and fun to be outside. I have a Zoom meeting tonight, so I will do some sort of exercise DVD here later this morning.

Same here, Ruth. We have some weak sunshine today but are expecting a winter storm later in the week.

I enjoyed this article in the Sunday Wisconsin State Journal. Wanted to share but had to wait a few days for it to post to the web.

Walking groups try to spark interest in a physical activity most people can enjoy

Your winter storms will be rain for us here in Kansas City. Blah.

I got in a 5k run today but remain discouraged by my stupid heart rate. Also did today's glute challenge (40 Bulgarian split squats per side and 40 fire hydrants per side).

On a very positive note, my husband's colonoscopy was picture perfect today. Three years ago he had polyps so this was a nice change

Doing the happy dance!! After 4+ months, my renewed passport is finally on its way :) Not that I can travel anywhere I'd want to go. Ontario is going on lock down 12am Thursday. Stay at home orders. I think Israel is still on lock down as well.

It's amazing how different Fitbit records exercise than the Apple watch. I really like the way the Apple watch looks, but it is taking some getting used. to regarding exercise. Three walks today plus an hour on the Cubii and according to the Apple watch, I've only exercised 78 minutes, burned 459 calories14,344 steps. My fitbit always had me at least 1500 calories and more. I don't care about the calories just weird how different the devices are. I know that I walked over an hour - each walk is about 25 minutes and I've been doing the Cubii an hour in the morning when I wake up.

edj - good news on your husband's clean colonoscopy. My DH last year went back to 5 years after 3 years.

Badger - thanks for sharing the article. I think there are a couple walking clubs in Colorado - I'm just too lazy to drive anywhere to walk on a regular basis. I have one girlfriend that when we used to walk together we would meet at this large park. I miss those days. I have another gf who leaves about a mile from me and we used to walk on Saturdays - I would walk to her house and we'd walk 45 minutes to an hour and then I'd walk home then change and go to synagogue. We haven't walked since before Covid.

Older daughter just texted me saying she's been coughing for a week, getting worse and has sinus pressure. She is debating to get Covid tested - I told her to get tested and hoping is negative to call her doctor for antibiotics for sinus infection once she gets the negative test results. She works with 1- 2.5 year olds but other than work and going to the grocery store weekly she stays home. Now she has me worried.

Going to be near 60 tomorrow and windy then drop 20+ degrees on Thursday. My home office gets cold at times. This afternoon I had my middle of the year conversation with my evaluator and was sitting in my office - by the time we were done, I was frozen and couldn't get warm. Finally after bundling up in several layers to walk I'm warm. No hot flashes, but either I bone cold or I'm warm!!!

    Sweet dreams.

Karen, hope your daughter is OK. I understand the worry. It's hard to be far away from the people we love and not be able to care for them ourselves.

30-minute walk yesterday. The sunshine was a balm. Treadmill is supposed to be delivered Friday. I wonder if they will postpone due to the winter storm.

So I woman'd up and called my audiologist to get a hearing test. I was dx'd with intermittent low frequency hearing loss in my left ear in 2014 and have a hearing aid. But because it resolved after a couple of years, I haven't worn it. But my hearing on that side has been shot for about 6 months and the tinnitus has gotten much, much worse. My audiologist said I would need to see my ENT first which I was dreading b/c last time I saw him in late 2018, he was a jerk.

But today went really well. As I knew, that intermittent hearing loss is back with a vengeance. Fortunately I thought to bring my hearing aid w/ me, so she reprogrammed it on the spot and bam, the world is in stereo again. The ENT recommended getting a head MRI since my last one was several years ago. There's the smallest possibility these issues are caused by a specific kind of tumor, which he doesn't expect to see. I don't either, I think he's right and this is Meneire's. But I'm super proud of myself for going back to see him because I sure didn't want to.

The vertigo is back very slightly today so I didn't run but did my glute challenge and the rest was weights.

Good for you, edj. It is always better to know what is going on, and sometimes they can actually do something about a problem!

Karen, I'm glad that DD will get tested as nowdays Covid is something that you want/need to be ruled out whenever you feel sick.

Walked with a couple of the Wednesday Women this morning and will walk dogs this afternoon (the weather is supposed to change tomorrow). I am going to try a 1/2 hour Mat Pilates class at noon & go to Zumba tonight.

edj - sorry the vertigo is back. Love how you worded it " I woman'd". Nice that they could adjust your hearing aid then and there for you.

DD#1 went to urgent care this morning to get tested. She said the doctor doesn't think she has Covid. She's hoping to get the results tomorrow morning. She bought generic musinex and it probably is sinus, but as Ruth said better to be safe than to be sorry.

All day training tomorrow. There is 1/2 hour break for lunch and I'm going for a walk - its a zoom training so I can eat lunch whenever - just need to do it in between the role play (which I don't like to do).

    Sweet dreams

Badger: My sister is president of her local Volkssport Walking Club. She's been all over the United States on walks. I've been on several NC walks with her. It's an amazing program.

edj: my ENT can be a jerk also. Must be a prerequisite to become one! Glad you went to see him and the appointment went well.

Karen: Hope you dd is feeling better!

Haven't been on here since before Christmas. Been walking/running as much as I can. Dh and I do very little yard work during the winter and it's nice to take a break from it. But, the blueberry bushes need pruning and now is the time to do it. Maybe tomorrow I'll start the process.

Wonderland, good to see you! That's cool about your sister. Walking is my sport of choice. The only equipment you need is a good pair of shoes.

It rained this morning, then cleared up. Didn't freeze so got in a walk before the snow started this afternoon. So pretty!

I'll have to shovel 2moro for treadmill delivery. They called today from Iowa so it's close and they are aware of the weather.

We didn't get snow, but the wind has been blowing at 50 mph all day with gusts to 70!!!! One of those gusts pulled the gate right off DS's new fence; sucked the nails right out of the wood!

I went to Pound this morning & back to Barre Sculpt & Damce2fit tonight. I'm now curled up in a fuzzy robe and blanket listening to the wind blow.

wonder and edj - when DD#1 was little. she had frequent ear infections and saw a great pediatric ENT, but we said he had the personality of a gnat!!!

DD#1 Covid test was negative so work told her to come in. Not sure if she called the doctor or not. Forgot to ask her.

Ruth we had strong winds last night 50+ as well.

Looking forward to the long week-end.

edj3, good on your husband. I know you have meniere's and perhaps I've misread that this is a constant, yet there may be a connection to your recent challenge of perfecting handstands? When placing the body in inversions (handstands, shoulder stands, etc..) - it may disturb the inner ear. Love to know how you enjoy that mat class Ruth. karen, good to know your daughter's test is negative.

This talk of what we think of doctors reminds me of a talk I had with a friend of mine who is a nurse. When I had my mastectomy and immediate reconstruction two specialists had to have schedules mesh. One Dr. was very impacted for time and I had to wait 5 months from time of diagnosis to surgery. My friend said no matter what you think of a doctor - the best they have to offer you is when you are in their hands with them working on you - that is when you experience the best of them. Just saying it isn't only personality when weighing up a Dr. who treats us.

I'm working on my taxes (2019-April2020) and it's depressing me to see the hours on my billing, compared to the reduction in hours after the first lockdown - that I 'supposedly' now have. Also had planned for my business to expand to postural stability - working with older populations in their home, to be steady on their feet and build strength - to stay independent. Our lockdown is such that you can't leave your home, can exercise outdoors for an hour a day within five miles of your home (no driving to seaside to walk on the beach) and only stores deemed to sell essential are open - the rest shut. This is not the time to expand. I do go and live stream twice a week my classes at an empty studio in a gym I work at and don't charge for my time as this gym is barely hanging on by a thread - and the owner went through throat cancer treatment ending at the beginning of 2020 (she is doing physically great). There is so much to be grateful for - that is good - myself and family are well - and I'm not home schooling a child. It is all getting to me. There, I said it. Off I go, need to get the car loaded need and go stream a Pilates class. Have a good start to the weekend everyone!

LilacBlue, I feel for all the people like you who are self-employed and have seen their businesses either reduced or ended. I would be down too.

Re my ENT, yeah I agree about valuing the skills I need from him over his personality. The same thing is true for my breast surgeon. There's nothing wrong with his surgical skills and if I ever need any more breast surgery, I would see him. But not for ongoing breast care, no thanks! There are others who can and are doing that part just as well.

I actually haven't been doing much on the handstand front for a few weeks. Initially I stopped so I could work on hamstring flexibility and continue with the core and posterior chain strength work. The last week, as you might imagine, I've been a little leery of trying b/c I don't want to trigger another round of vertigo

I slept in (for me) today and had to hustle to get in my workout and still be here at my desk in my living room when I normally am. Did 25 minutes HIIT, and then 35 strength (10 min ab work, 150 squats, 30 single leg bridges each side and then 16 side planks w/ dips each side).

We have the blowing snowing crap here today, but so far we aren't in white out conditions (which was part of the forecast). I'm hoping all power lines stay up.

Anyone who didn't feel down every once and awhile with all the stuff going on, lock-downs etc. etc. would have at least a few screws loose! North Dakota has given the first dose of the vaccination to all the front-line workers (medical, police, firefighters etc) and nursing home residents) so is on to the 75+ population. It sounds like we will have a national policy and money to go with it in a few days. If we can hang in there, I do believe that help is on the way. If things do get better, maybe you will have to come back here, Lilac!

The wind is down to 25 mph......not exactly a lovely day. It's my day off from formal exercise, but cleaning the house is on the docket so I better get moving. Happy Friday, so something nice just for yourself!

Sorry for sending you the wind, Ruth. The good news is that it gave way to two days of sunshine which should return tomorrow. I am headed up skiing.

My news is a bit of unwelcome excitement on Wednesday, when someone veered off a street in Redmond, hit my car, and then hit a second car. I came out of my office to do an errand only to find my car on a tow truck with the hood bashed in! A bit of a shock as I had assumed it was safely parked. However, a car had veered off the main street, hit a tree, hit my car, and then hit another car.

Fortunately, I got there in time to intercept the two truck and have Rexxie taken directly to the body shop and I got the exchange of information from the police. The body shop owner was just fabulous, insisting that the towing bill be added to the repair bill, and then ensuring that I got the body shop rate, not what they had planned to charge me. The insurance company was also just wonderful. I don't have rental coverage, but the adjuster told me that he was quite confident that he could get the other insurance to pay and then advised me where to go and what to ask for in a rental.

I will end up with everything fixed and won't be charged anything. I was very lucky that Rexxie didn't get a direct hit. Today, I am going back to the body shop to get my skis and other items out of my car, though I could use my old skis.

Anyway a cautionary tale on having insurance with a reputable company and keeping collision. That is don't go with "cheapinsureancedeals.com". I was willing to pay the deductable to have the adjuster do the fighting for me. Fortunately, I won't have to. It will take a couple of weeks, but I will get Rexxie back good as new. Damage was to the hood and left headlight area; I didn't get a direct hit, fortunately. Now to learn the new technology in the rental.....

Looking forward to good skiing, beers outside with a friend on Sunday, and an otherwise unexciting weekend. Plus take my tree down....finallly.

    Happy exercising everyone! - Claire

I agree on the doctor personality thing: my fertility doctor, there's no way I would even trust him to watch my cat, he was an arrogant a-hole. But if I was trying to get pregnant again I would only want him!

I have upped my arm weights and my elbow pit has hurt like crazy. Also the swapping out diet pop is going well. Ihave discovered caffeinated water! Surely that is more healthy?!

Claire: Yikes about Rexxie and thankful he's in good hands.

Together: I must be behind the times (not the first time for sure lol) but I have not heard of caffeinated water until now. Is it good?

Met a good friend today for a 7 plus mile hike on a trail around a beautiful lake. It was in the low 40s and mostly cloudy with a light breeze but I wore many layers and was just fine. I ordered hiking boots but they are on backorder. Looking forward to their arrival so I can try them out on a new trail.

Even with the vaccine, it seems like we'll be very masks, practicing social distancing and hand washing until at least the fall. The local news channel we watch, the resident doctor says she thinks positivity rate is down as people are tired of testing and if partner tests positive they don't get tested but just quarantine. The governor is moving most cities to orange from red, but Pitkin Count (Aspen) has moved voluntarily to stem the tide of cases. Aspen is the ski playground of the rich and famous.

Woke up at 4 am to go to the bathroom, fell back to sleep for a bit then awake again at 5, tried to stay in bed till 6 - tossed and turned like a fish out of water - woke up annoyed with a sore back and my tennis elbow acting up - should have just gotten up at 5. I haven't set an alarm clock in years. My clock radio/alarm is from 1980!!!!

When I got up at 6, emptied the dishwasher and did my Cubii for an hour. Will walk later this morning with DH.

Plan for today is to dust and wipe down some furniture and try to purge papers - I have all the emails from when I was diagnosed and sent out updates - most of these people I have not seen or heard from since I left my job in 2008 so why keep them. I'll keep the ones from people who still care about me and I'm in contact with. I have a few rubbermaid containers with breast cancer stuff, but I missing/can't find where I put one that has copies of all my records from the hospital. Everything in the furnace room is marked so I know what is there. I have my pathology reports all my labs, bone density results etc. What I would love to find is my labs before surgery and chemo to see if there were tumor markers. Also I want to find out if my implants are over the muscle or under the muscle. I quit seeing my PS and BS in 2009 and only see medical oncologist. My implants are from 2008 and I have not had them checked since they were place. At last medical oncologist appointment in October his NP said I should have them checked at 15 years. I googled to see how that is done and it is via MRI. Not interested in surgery or anything else at this time. I keep telling myself if something was wrong, medical oncologist would be able to tell.

Sorry to rambling and being such a long post

    Have a great Sunday.

Good luck with your paper purging, Karen. I still have all my 2007 paperwork too & two nice wigs in a basement closet. I should donate the wigs & purge some of the old cancer related paperwork, but I can't bring myself to look back and go through all that stuff STILL. My stomach flips over even typing about it!

I have a Zoom meeting in a few minutes & then will do Zoom Yoga & then off to a 'real' Barre Sculpt class (followed by pizza, so all will be undone!). Lucky I really like to exercise because I really like to eat!

Major headway today in taking down my tree and then doing the needles cleanup. Weights were carrying the tree .2 mile to the tree compost at the end of the property. As lovely as the tree was, it's nice to get my place back. After than, I did a dog walk with a friend and stopped at the microbrewery for beers and fries. Both were delicious. I have leftover mussels and salad for dinner.

Yesterday, I got to Stevens Pass Nordic for some real skiing. Was great fun and the most glorious day. Wearing my new ski jacket which is fine for 30F+ temps. A warmer one for real winter temperatures is on its way (from Belarus - eBay, an older model Moncler). It's been a long time since I had the cold weather down ski jacket that I wanted. More than 15 years since the Bogner that I dearly loved bit the dust.

My pass for Snoqualmie Nordic will come this week. My favorite trails, but have only been open for a couple of weeks, so I haven't missed much. Will tackle those next weekend. I should be more than fit enough for my ski trip 3 weeks from now.

My weight isn't down much, but my friend told me that I look slimmer and more sculpted. I will take that as progress. Sharing some "real mountain" pictures from yesterday. And I am not even sore plus can walk just fine after the 10 miles of skiing! - Claire

Claire in her new ski jacket and in her element. The jacket is great because it wicks moisture away so much better than my old pink one which used to get soaked by the end of a ski. The Kappa logo is quite racy.

    image

Towards the end of the way out. I was very happy to see that no one had attempted to ski the open area at the right. This is where an avalanche claimed several lives a few years ago. The trail is perfectly safe.

    image

Nearing the end of the way out with ski lift in the distance.Lovely snow and sun.

    image

Near the top of an early climb. I love this side trail and the downhills are great fun.

Going to try out the new exercise bike we got as soon as I get it put together. Didn’t need a fancy one with a lot of bells and whistles, just got a basic one.
