I just got my annual Fitbit report: 4,920,642 steps, which they say equals walking the length of a cruise ship 10,755 times. Those steps equal 2,049 miles, which is the same as crossing the English Channel 98 times. No wonder I'm tired!

That's impressive, Ruth!
Great news on your car, Claire!
edj: Hope your massage turned out to be as ahhmazing as your yoga session.
Walked/ran this afternoon.

Ruth - I got my report too - 5,942112 total steps = walking the length of cruise ship 13,189 times and 2,513 mile = crossing the English Channel 120 times! I've had the Apple watch for a few weeks now - still getting used to it. Whenever I get lucky enough to see my younger daughter, I'll give her my Fitbit Versa - for now its sitting on my dresser. OR if I change my mind, she can have the Apple watch.
A couple co-workers were talking about being tired and wondered if it was because they received the Covid vaccination the other day/. I told them, I've been tired for 23 year years!!! (since pregnant with youngest)!!!!
For some reason, short weeks always seem long!!!

edj3, it is so lovely as restorative can go deep and balances the nervous system beautifully. Good win Claire! Amazing Ruth!
Teaching a Pilates class at noon and fingers crossed no connection issues. Also have five hours of the yoga course I'm starting today at 4pm my time - 8am pacific where it originates. Have a good start to the weekend everyone!

Alas, Wonderland, this type of massage is distinctly not relaxing--she is rooting out all my pain points to help me get some relief. In the moment, it's quite painful to be honest.
I tried running this morning and I don't think running while I have an active flare of Meniere's and I'm on a diuretic is going to work. I felt great, heart rate was good, good speed and then my quads started cramps (wut? those never cramp), I thought I was going to puke b/c of the vertigo and it was just all around not fun. I'm crushed, to be honest, and hope this flare goes away fast.
Karen & ruth, I didn't even open the email from Strava with my end of year stats. Breaking my foot on May 16 cratered every fitness goal I had and I didn't need a reminder of that.

Health things definitely can mess up the fitness goals, but what is good is that, with time, you can bounce back! Edj, do you think you are trying to do too much too fast? Sending you a virtual hug during this very frustrating time.
Karen, I don't want to swim the English Channel, but would love to walk the deck of the cruise ship with you!
Today's my no-class day. In awhile I am playing a game on Zoom with a friend and then I need to drag myself out to Walmart (I need to get a tiny paint brushvto touch up my bathroom paint job right around where the vanity meets the wall and some Valentines Day cards). I will probably do an indoor walking DVD. It's cold outside and I am sick of the treadmill.

almost 2 weeks post surgery. Trying to get back to exercising... I lost 40 pounds from June to November. But plateaued...
Over the summer/fall I was walking 30-90 minutes and biking (indoor) 60 min a day. Then it got cold. And chemo... and surgery.
This week I’ve gotten back on the bike 4 days. I’m slow, but moving.
Thanks for the motivation, commitment, and ideas.

Welcome, NotAsCalm!!!

Was going to workout tonight but I am pooped from 3 hour marathon of housework I did. Workout tomorrow instead.

Welcome NotAsCalm! Slow is OK. All movement counts!
Wonderland, as you know I love bluegrass but the beat isn't right for a treadmill. Did you hear that Tony Rice passed away on Christmas Day? He's one of my all-time favorite guitar players. Here he is in his prime with his band, playing a tune called Tipper. He was inspired to write it while watching his happy little dog running down a beach. It's dated (mullets!) but always makes me smile.
RIP Tony Rice.
Missed my workout today as got news that mom is ready to be discharged from rehab to assisted living. This will happen on Weds and there's a lot to do! Logistics for moving items from the storage unit, arranging for her meds to be delivered, and figuring out the finances. I was on the phone most of the afternoon. Glad she is doing so well but yikes that came on fast.
It's colder than all get out here. Zero degrees tonight but minus ten with the wind chill. BRRR! Big snowstorm on the way for the weekend.

I'm dropping in to say hello. I've enjoyed reading up on so many of your adventures and fitness challenges. I took a year-and-a-half break from the breast cancer site. I just needed a break. Everything's going great. It's really nice reading about your adventures. I need to significantly increase my activity level. Ruth, as usual, you post great pics. Those of you who are new to the site or have recently began treatment or surgery remember to listen to your body and take it slow. Keep up the good work

Hi jo! Great to hear from you!

Badger, we may see snow on Tuesday.

Hi jo, welcome back!
M0mmy, housework counts as exercise! Call it Scrub & Sculpt. With all the snow we are supposed to get, I expect to do a lot of Shovel & Sculpt.
Will do a quick window visit with mom today (it's too cold to be outside for long) then visit MIL. Bringing her walnut brownies and chili con carne.

badger, we're going to get your leftovers on Monday I believe. It may stay further north of Kansas City and that's fine with me!
ruth, not overdoing it pinky promise. The muscle cramps are from the diuretic and are in muscles that have never ever cramped in my nearly 61 years of living.
Did HIIT today, I have to be super careful with workouts that take me down to the mat and immediately back up as that triggers vertigo. Fun times. Glute challenge was 150 hip thrusts and 40 single leg deadlines each side. I can tell my posterior chain is getting stronger with this challenge and when/if I'm able to run again, that will pay off.

Badger send the snow my way. We haven’t really had a good snow since before Christmas.
30 minutes on the bike. No workout until Monday.

The snow is veering to our south, which is perfectly fine with me! Pound & Zumba this morning.

edj: Yikes about the muscle cramps. The first time I had vertigo I couldn't shut my eyes bc I would almost vomit. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I admire your "this too shall pass" attitude and never wanting to just give up.
Badger: Yes, I heard about Tony Rice. He was living in a town about an hour from me. Very said. Thanks for the video.
Yesterday I helped stuff goodie bags at our local health department. The bags are for distribution during their COVID vaccination clinics (the bags contain a 4 page handout about the vaccine, pen, and hand sanitizer). My dd works at the health department and is heavily involved with the vaccine. They are currently the only agency in our county that has the vaccine. As you can imagine, they are working as hard as they can to vaccinate people. In NC, agencies that have the vaccine plan how they want to hold clinics. Our health department finds out weekly how much vaccine they will receive and then hold clinics by appointment only. It's been very efficient and people with an appointment are praising the ease of getting vaccinated. Some agencies are having drive-through first come first serve which leads to long car lines and pissed off people bc they have waited so long only to find out there is no more vaccine. Plus the employees have to be outside all day long. Last week age 65 and up became eligible for the vaccine. The phone lines and computer lines opened up at 10am yesterday for 1000 appointments for Monday's clinic. The 25 phone lines crashed right when they opened up and people could only make an appointment online. In 17 minutes all 1000 appointments were filled. I'm volunteering at the clinic on Monday all day. I should add that one of my dd's duties is to organize volunteers. It supposed to be a cold rainy day on Monday. Luckily she is placing me inside instead of parking cars. They also offer a drive up for people who are not very mobile so they can get vaccinated while sitting in their car. But that also means the employees stay all day outside under a tent. It's been cold on clinic days but this will be the first time it will be rainy. Ugh!
Walked/ran today. Nice and sunny today. (FYI: the health department vaccinated 400 today. All were for their first shot. You are given your appointment for your 2nd shot when you get your first.)

Rowed for 30 minutes today, got 5200 meters. I'm a rank beginner at rowing, we only got the machine last March. Finally got the app set up to sync with it and Garmin and Strava, so that felt like an accomplishment. It's really clunky app but that's OK.
And I'm counting down the days until the end of this glute challenge (Wed is the last day). Today was 110 frog pumps and 90 backward lunges per side.
Of course now I need another challenge--got any suggestions?

Dang, if I had know you had a rowing erg I would have made sure you signed up for my cancer recovery rowing group and our January challenge!
I am 3 days past what would have been infusion day!!!! WOOOOHOOOO! That day passing we even more 'real' than my last infusion (Kadcyla) 3 weeks previously. Since I started with TCHP in July of 2019, it was crazy to have a third week go by with no infusion! Now I hope to start feeling like myself again and gaining back strength.
Today I rowed 7,900 meters and did a half hour strength workout with my rowing coach. Not sure I will get my work done today (aka -- laundry, house clean up and other essentials before going back to work in the morning) but I feel really good to have worked out! I really want to get back into running, but the leg I broke 6 mo before my cancer diagnosis still REALLY objects to the pounding. And my balance issues from the neuropathy make outdoor winter sports not really safe yet. But I am determined that next year will be better!

Hmmmm.....no challenge ideas from me (who flunked the plank challenge!). I will do Barre Sculpt & Yoga today. I will probably have to do something for the steps since I have two Zoom engagements starting in a few minutes.

A couple months ago I was invited to be part of a small group from around the BCO Boards. The moderators want us to brainstorm ways to make the BCO Community a more welcome place for all, especially newcomers, to engage in and to feel a sense welcome and belonging to when they (we) come here. If you have any thoughts, ideas, suggestions you would like to share with me, please send me a PM.
From our discussions, here is a question the moderators wanted us to bring back to the different threads we frequent: If they would set up regular Zoom Gatherings for various threads, would there be any interest? So, here is my group discussion question: Would there be any interest on this thread for a Zoom Gathering every once and awhile?

Yes, Ruth I would!

ruth, you didn't fail the plank challenge. You participated and got done what worked for you. That's my take on it.

Sounds good to me. I just am in a Zoom meeting right now that will take forever because they are having technical difficulties. Argh!

To answer your question, Ruth, I think that Zoom get-togethers would be a good addition to BCO, but not something that I would personally be interested in. I have no shortage of these opportunities whether I want them or not. Two calls on tap for tomorrow.
I got up skiing yesterday prior to the weather going south. Because it was very icy on many of the trails, I downsized things a bit doing only 8 or so miles. I decided to go down the route that would take me directly to my car. I asked about the White Rabbit Trail as the one trail I had never skied. The ski patrol were right; the trail itself isn't all that impossible, but it lands you plonk in the middle of the downhill trails where everyone else had the right gear to navigate this terrain. This isn't Nordic skis, and eventually I bailed and walked down the rest of the mountain carrying my skis. Theory is that my pride heals a lot faster than my body does.
My legs are still talking to me. Wonderful exercise for my calves and butt, especially since I don't normally walk down mountains.
5 mile walk today in the chilly drizzle.
Next weekend should be fabulous skiing as we are expecting quite a bit of snow this week, and it should be cold enough for powder, not frozen whatever. I should have Rexxie back by then as well. (By the way, I now know which of the two morons who collided in the intersection was considered to be more at fault.)
And here are pictures from yesterday. A day in the mountains to savor! - Claire

Claire, always love your pix. So pretty!
We got about three inches of snow Saturday night. Spent 90 minutes in two rounds of Shovel & Sculpt Sunday morning. First was a quick 30 on the sidewalk and walkway up to the house, then came in for coffee and the Sunday paper. Once the snowplow came through, spent an hour cleaning up after them and shoveling the driveway. Great exercise!
The next round of snow comes in Mon PM into Tues AM. We're in for another 3-4 inches unless the storm swings north, in which case we could get 10-12. Yikes.
Ruth, the "Sculpted Sisters" from this thread is a great bunch of ladies whom I've enjoyed getting to know IRL. Zoom is not for me but may be wonderful for others.

Snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow but only 1-4" predicted. 30s today, 20s tomorrow. The SW mountains got upwards of 2 feet yesterday.

Gorgeous photos, Claire!
No snow here (yet)--it's rain at the moment. That's ok by me, you don't have to shovel rain. We'll see how the week plays out, it's a real mixed bag right now of snow/rain/drizzle/yuck.
Ruth, no Zoom for me either. I am literally on video calls 6+ hours a day for work. The fatigue is real.
