So happy to hear the neck/back/arm pain is better! That biking sounds muddy
We may walk later when it gets warmer, though that also means muddier and I turned my ankle on the mud trying to get to my car in the driveway yesterday. But it has been a long dark winter, so getting outside would be good.
I rowed last night, only 4,000 meters. I think today's exercise will be mostly house cleaning and perhaps the gentle walk outside. Right now I just feel lazy though!

today I did two classes and rode an exercise bike also.
I have a pink ribbon tattoo on my arm, my best friend got one also.

yeslamadragon- it is an exercise bike 😂. We are in the middle of mud season (part 1). I’m staying away from that!

PiYo and Zumba this morning. This afternoon we met up with DS, his GF and their combined 3 dogs for a hike on a nature trail. Bruno kept up with the big dogs just fine, but is now passed out on the couch!

That Bruno is super cute.

Visited MIL on Sat. Brought her tuna noodle casserole, sweet seedless grapes, and peanut butter pie. She is so appreciative of the company and the food. Drove there and back in the rain. It was too wet to walk outside and all that bad-weather driving sapped me so I took the night off from the treadmill. It stopped raining this morning then it got very windy. Did some errands today including buying a $5 pedometer at WalMart then got outside for a walk in the afternoon sun despite the cold wind. Had an email from my health care company saying I'm eligible for a COVID vaccination and please sign up. It's in a month but I don't care. It's scheduled and I'm a happy badger.

I got in a wonderful ski in the sunshine yesterday. Hoping I can sneak up there again on Wednesday for a final fun time in the snow and make it an even 20 times skiing. Today is work and chores. About to head out for a trudge in the rain (and wind). Will don my old running shoes and rain gear.
Ruth....think that Bruno could be your stealth weight loss weapon! Just the cutest ever. How is motherhood going?
Got my taxes out the door yesterday and rejoicing that the annual ordeal is in now my rear view mirror. Hoping to wear my bright shiny running shoes tomorrow and get in a proper run. It's beyond time to pick up the pace. Also time to get out my bicycle.
I was laughing yesterday when I went down a hill and didn't even feel it when I snowplowed. It's the same story every year; I get fit for Nordic skiing just about the time the season ends. Didn't even feel my hip flexors and was super fast (for me, that is) Now, I could prepare for next year with hip flexor exercises?
Dragon....congrats on being in Season #6 - Mud Season. Which makes Spring even more appreciated once it finally arrives. BTW - carrying buckets of sap is fabulous exercise, though most sugaring is now done by pipeline. Just saying.
Hoping to get out to the Vineyard to help out in two weeks. Next weekend is Covid #2 and Easter. Hoping to get in at least one bicycle ride as the Tulip Pedal is in two weeks. The good news is that my 2 friends haven't been on a bicycle either, though I think I have at least been out there skiing. I am expecting a sorry performance. - Claire

Claire -- Your skiing sounds wonderful! I am jealous! I am really hoping by next season I will have the balance and strength to ski (x-country) again. Meanwhile, Postholing through the woods emptying sap doesn't sound like fun to me
Ruth: I am completely in love with Bruno. Probably a good thing you are so far away....
Today I did strength training as well as a whole lot of sorting and folding laundry, with way too much ironing, and some sock mating. Even though my watch doesn't seem to recognize it, I know that all (well, maybe not the sock mating) is also exercise!

Bruno is really an exceptionally sweet dog (if I do say so myself). He is not a 'morning dog', which works well since DH is not a 'morning person'. So they snooze on the couch and I can drink my coffee and get my work done in peace! Claire, he will be good for my diet. Not only do I get more walking in, I can hardly snack while he looks at me with those very sad eyes!
I did several dog walks, went to Barre Sculpt & Yoga.

Pound this morning, two dog walks (so far......not particularly aerobic since there has to be plenty of stops to sniff things), Dance2fit tonight. It was 70 degrees today, the high will be 30 tomorrow, and it's back to 70 by the weekend....a weather roller-coaster!

I did a deep stretching yoga session today by Five Parks yoga on You Tube. I love her classes.

Walked in brisk (cold) wind yesterday and in warm wind this afternoon. Cold again in another day. We have the weather roller-coaster, too. Ah, Spring!
There were some Girl Scouts at the store yesterday when I stopped for milk so I have the Thin Mints mom was craving. Oh, and a box for us, too LOL.
My SIL took this pic a few years ago when she and my niece were out selling GS cookies door-to-door in their neighborhood.
Thinking of you, Wonderland. Are you still doing Girl Scouts?
My doc's office called today. They have vaccination appointments here in town so am getting first jab locally on Friday instead of Madison on 28 Apr.

That's good news on your vaccine, Badger!
Ran this AM, we too are having the bonkers Midwest weather. This morning it was 58 when I ran. That's where our temps will be all day and by Thursday morning, we'll be at 29.

For those who have Medicare - who has Advantage and who has regular Medicare? Pros/Cons? Please tell me about any issues you have with routine labs etc through oncologist or other specialists? I just applied for Part A - very weird feeling (not turning 65 but applying for Medicare. I don't need Part B or Advantage yet as we have health insurance through DH work (I work too) and as long as he is working, no need. When he retires, I have to figure out what to get. My PCP only takes AARP Medicare Advantage (United Health Care) and Anthem Advantage - both are PPOs - the Athem is through the state teachers retirement association. I think all my "ologists" take any Medicare, but I need to ask as appointments come up. TIA

I have regular Medicare and a private supplement. I haven't had any problems, but I haven't had anything other than regular stuff done since I went on.
It was a nasty day, 18 degrees & 55 mph winds. We only took a very short walk and therefore have a crazy puppy tonight. i went to Barre Sculpt and did a bunch of errands today.

I too have regular medicare with a supplement. I couldn't be happier. EVERYTHING was paid for through two cancer surgeries & treatments, labs, rads, etc. I have friends on advantage plans who are happy, but I wanted to: a) continue going to the docs I liked. and b) choose to go to any doc or facility any time for any reason without a gatekeeper or referral. That said, I believe the advantage plans can be cheaper if that's a consideration.
Karen - do call and talk to SS & Medicare. I believe it's correct that you don't have to have "B" - health, or "D" - drug plan, or "C" - the combo Advantage plan if you are enrolled in 'credible coverage' plan at your or DH's work. But the devil is in the details, and reporting & initial sign up can be confusing. Make sure - since penalties are every month forever with no forgiveness if you miss a date.
It was my experience that docs I was already using before I turned 65 kept me as a medicare patient even if they wouldn't accept new medicare patients. Good that you have some time to ask.

WWW walked indoors on this cold morning. You can see we are dressed for the upcoming Easter holiday. I plan to go to Zumba tonight.

Went for a walk at lunch ahead of the T-storms due this afternoon...have to pay for the 2 days of warm weather!

Freeze warning this week--glad my next running day isn't tomorrow morning when we'll be at 29. No thanks, not in April.
Tomorrow I also have that nerve conduction test for the dead spots on my right big toe. I know it won't be a fun test, just hope it's not wretched. But the numbness and tingling is getting worse and it's affecting my running gait

Hello, everyone! 2nd Moderna vaccine yesterday and feeling a bit off today, not up for exercising at all. No appetite & somewhat queasy, lying low and sleeping a lot today, but no fever. Hope to be back to exercise tomorrow.
Re: Medicare and Supplements - My retirement system pays the full premium on a Humana Medicare Supplement, with prescription benefits. So far, I am paying less for healthcare than when I had health coverage through my workplace (for which I paid a monthly contribution on a HDHP) even considering the cost of Medicare Part B premiums. Husband has a $0 monthly premium United Healthcare Advantage Plan via AARP supplement, which has been just fine - his dental benefits are better than mine. At 73, he still takes no prescriptions & has never had a cavity! Neither one of us have had to make any changes to our healthcare providers.

Karen, here's my experience with traditional Medicare versus an Advantage plan. YMMV.
The good: my hubby has traditional Medicare plus a supplement through AARP. He's had no issues and the cost is reasonable. I was able to leverage unused sick leave hours to pay for health insurance in retirement. I think I have enough hours banked (fingers crossed) to pay for coverage under my employer plan until I turn 65.
The bad: my mom had regular Medicare and a supplement but no drug coverage. She switched to an Advantage plan effective 1/1/2021 with the same company as her supplement to save money. That remains to be seen.
First, because mom paid for her own meds for six years (from 2015 when my dad's employer (GE) plan discontinued health insurance for retirees/spouses over age 65), she is paying a late enrollment penalty (LEP) of $23.80 per month. That increased her monthly premium from $82 per month to $105.80 per month. The sales person told her about the LEP but said it would be about $4 per year. He didn't say $4 per year times six years = $24 per month. Mom gets confused and maybe didn't ask the right questions but I think their statement was deceptive. Still, she will save money on her meds, some of which are crazy expensive.
Second, per medicare.gov, Advantage plans MUST provide the same benefits as the Medicare plans they replace. Medicare covers rehab in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) for up to 100 days after a hospital stay. Mom was admitted to the SNF on 23 Nov 2020 so should have been covered through 3 Mar 2021. She was discharged to assisted living on 27 Jan 2021 so was in the SNF for 26 days in January. However, because she switched from traditional Medicare to an Advantage plan, they are trying to deny SNF coverage for January by saying it was a new episode. Baloney! The billing person at the SNF is trying to figure it out but my fear is we may be on the hook for the full freight for 26 days. I freaking hate dealing with insurance companies but I am smart, retired, and experienced with government processes and will appeal all the way up to the feds if I have to.
I can't let mom know because it would only frighten her. She doesn't have much money left and it is going fast. My brother is totally unsympathetic and has relinquished any responsibility for her finances. My husband and I are not made of money so can't support her. Our house isn't set up for someone with mobility issues and it's not feasible for us to move and take her in. I hate the idea of a Medicaid-funded nursing home but there are so few options.
Bottom line is I spent too much time worrying and not enough time exercising yesterday. Today is another day! Rant over.

badger: Love the sign you posted! Yes, I'm still involved with Girl Scouts. I'm on our Council's Gold Award Committee (like the Eagle Award) and get to meet (zoom now) and approve projects. Some of the projects are so amazing and I feel positive about the future of America. They're that good! My involvement with the cookie program was minimal this year due to Covid. I helped distribute cases on the initial Cookie Delivery Day which is always outside and on the coldest day of the year. Wearing the mask did help keep me warm. I supported the Cookie Program by ordering a $H!t load of boxes that I gave to friends, family, and my waistline.
Karen: I turned 65 last September and couldn't wait to get on Medicare. My monthly private insurance was a small house payment. In September I signed on with a Humana Advantage program (PPO, $50 monthly premium), but switched in January to a Cigna Advantage program. It also is PPO, but no monthly premium, either no copay at doctor or less copay than the Humana one. Plus is pays $25 towards Medicare Part B. And the one pill I'm on is listed on a different tier than the Humana one so now I pay nothing for it. All in all, right off the top I'm saving almost $1100 a year on this plan. It's Cigna True Choice Medicare.
(badger: what a mess with your Mom's insurance. You are the perfect daughter every parent wants/needs)
edj: How did your nerve conduction test go?
Hi Everyone! I volunteered with our health department's vaccination clinic today. They hold them 6 days a week and doing an outstanding job. The health director made sure that got their 3 day holiday and didn't schedule any clinics for tomorrow or Saturday. They deserve and definitely need it. Today's clinic (they had 3 clinics in 3 different locations) where I volunteered was uneventful as opposed to last week when I volunteered. Last week I had to catch a woman who fainted and gently bring her down to the floor. The nurse came right away and the lady was fine. The next day my dd (who works at the health department and works every clinic) had a catch a fainting man and bring him to the floor. Luckily no one fainted today!
I walked/ran after being at the clinic today. I needed it!

Thank you for volunteering, Alice!
Busy day here; dog walking and playing, cleaned the house, picked up some groceries, went to Barre Sculpt & Zumba.

Wonder - we've had Cigna for years through DH work - very pleased with the coverage and customer service. Last years when my DH had is quintuple bypass we met the out of pocket by his surgery in March and they he paid nothing the rest of the year. I know there are way more options out there, but my PCP group only takes the two PPO Advantage Plans. I've been going to the practice for over 15 years - just have to meet with an agent to see what is the best plan and then decide if I want to stay with my PCP or hassle finding a new one. I have till the end of the year when DH retires to figure it all out, but don't want to wait till last minute. We know someone who can help but just need to schedule a time.
71 yesterday and going to 81 by Monday then cooling off to 60s. Not ready for the 80s just yet.
This is the last week-end with DD#2. She leaves Monday morning. Feeling a little sad as we don't know when Israel will open its borders to non citizens so can't even plan a trip. With school, its hard for her to travel, but maybe the fall high holidays - but not making plans. It has been wonderful to have her here - she has relaxed and loved being taken care of. Thankfully Mondays are one of my remote days so I'll be here when she leaves for the airport. Don't think I can sneak away long enough to go to airport, so DH will take her but at least, I'm not leaving before she gets up. Her flight is just before noon to JFK then a long layover (5 or 6 hours) till her flight to Israel. I'm sure we will talk lots when she is in the airport.
Need to take her for Covid testing for her flights - not worried about results - it's a requirement to travel. I'll also get tested - we're both vaccinated, so no worries for me either but since I'm taking her why not.
Typical Friday - cleaning, grocery shopping and cooking for Shabbat and the last two days of Passover. Will cook a few new things then finish up the assortment of yummy food from the week.
Have a great Friday. To those who celebrate have a good Good Friday and Happy Easter.

Well that nerve conduction appointment was a complete bust--no idea where the miscommunication occurred but the neurologist didn't do the test. Instead he examined me, bounced his little hammer on various places, dragged pointy and dull things across parts of my calves and feet.
Long story short, he doesn't know what's going on, said it's an unusual nerve issue pattern and I need a . . . yes, nerve conduction test, also an arterial flow. So those are getting scheduled. In the meantime, my numbness is still there and still seems to be slowly getting worse.
I opted not to run in the cold today, I'm over it. So weights it was and I'll run tomorrow. We've got lots to do to get ready for Easter--my husband doesn't celebrate but I do

Enjoy the last couple days with DD, Karen.
That is beyond frustrating, edj.
We had a pretty sleepless night. Right before bedtime we noticed Bruno had lumps all over his body and his eyes were almost swollen shut. Between Dr. Google, and DS's girlfriend (whom we woke up), we diagnosed hives, which isn't life threatening, but makes for a miserable restless night. We took him to the vet first thing this morning and hives it us. He got a steroid shot and was sent home with some Benadryl. They said lots of dogs, particularly puppies, have come in with hives this spring because it is so horribly dry. He's sleeping like a log right now and I have to finish cleaning the house. My brother and sister-in-law will be here for dinner on the way to see her sister so I will be cooking a real meal with dessert and everything! Other than walking, no formula exercise for me today.
