Okay...I met my husband at a one mile ocean swim (yes, we were in the race, not beach watchers). We married the next year, returning from a two week honeymoon the day before the ocean swim the following year...which we participated in again! This June is 29 years.
My St Pat's blessing is I got a vaccine appointment for this Saturday! Yesterday I was scheduled for April 10th...but once on the schedule I put myself on the wait list for an eariler appointment, so happy. Can't wait. TT

I met my husband outside the sociology class we were both in. I was on crutches as I had trashed my leg - he came up to me and asked what I did to my foot. I had just had a bone graft and did not have a cast. He then came and set next to me in class - I was surprised as I hadn't given any thought to his question. He then slipped on the ice walking his dog and broke his ankle. We were quite the site. We dated for 3 months, then stopped going out the end of the school quarter then in the summer got back together and the rest is history. We went to Niagra Falls and Montreal while dating and stayed with my aunt and uncle. My Dad asked me how we were enjoying our honeymoon!!! And my uncle asked us about our plans. I was clueless. A few weeks later he proposed to me. Nothing fancy - no ring yet, no getting down on his knees. September is 44 years!!
DD is in the air!!! Her flight left 3 hours or so ago. Not that I'm counting
Happy St. Patty's Day.

yay to seeing DD soon, Karen! Hope most of the snow melts soon up there.
I met hubby 21 or so years ago on Match.com. Yes, we were early adopters and yes, I think they should put us in an advertisement (for pay of course :-)). Funny thing was, I wasn't really looking. I was helping a friend of mine (male, but definitely not a romantic interest) put together his profile, and started showing him profiles I thought were well done and explaining why they work (such as that the guy could write a cohesive sentence or two :-)) Anyway, I came across hubbys' and said to my friend, 'see, that is how you do it!'. Thought about it a bit, realized I thought hubby's pic was very cute, dropped him a note, and the rest was history as they say....
Oh yeah, exercise: more upper body stuff and wheeling around in my temporary wheelchair. It is better exercise than I ever would have guessed!

DD landed safely in JFK and her flight here leaves in about an hour then 4+ hour flight. For 23 (tomorrow0 she is really quite the seasoned traveler. She booked Delta after her Unite flight was cancelled. Delta through April is keeping the middle seat empty so on a 12+ hour flight it is really nice to have the extra room. She wants her Dad to bring her bagel and cream cheese to airport - so that means I'll be picking it up after my labs this morning.
Busier work day than I planned. Was hoping to be done early, but won't be till 3:45. At least I'm working remotely today. I signed up to help with interviews today - should have backed out when I knew her arrival date - she'll be busy unpacking, running to the store to get hair product that she didn't want to shlep and then pack for the mountain week-end. But the HUG, that I can't wait for.
Woke up way too early and too restless to stay in bed - got up at 4:15. Using my Cubii - already 25 minutes - will go at least 75 minutes or maybe 90.
I have labs at 8:00 for both my oncologists. One I see in a week the other 2 weeks later when I get my Prolia shot. The to as soon as I get back home, I have to jump on a zoom meeting. I generally start work at 7:30 or 8:00 so really taking a little time out of my day for this.
Still lots of snow on the curbs from plow trucks and grass etc but should all melt this week-end. At least the side streets are pretty clear - well fairly clear.
Have a great Thursday.

I love reading everyone's stories of how they met their SOs!
Karen, I'm excited for you re your daughter.
I was still low energy this morning so turned a planned 30 minute row session into a 10 minute warm up and then finished out with more weights.

Nice sunny day that tempted me outside for a walk but the strong wind (35 MPH) scuttled me back inside to the treadmill. Yikes!
I met my DH doing a favor for friends. They needed a dog sitter for a couple of nights. The dogs were in a fenced area in the back yard of a house they had just moved out of and he had just moved into. I pulled into the driveway to take care of the dogs, he came out to talk, and invited me in. I said no the first night, not going in a house with a strange man, but called my friends the next day to ask about him. They said he was OK so I said yes when he invited me in the second night. He had a chess board set up so we played a game and talked. We went on a date to a pub for a beer and a game of pool. Our next date was at his house and he cooked for me. That's when I knew I would marry this man (he's a chef). We were engaged for a year and have been married for 25 years.
Karen, so happy you get to see your daughter!

Aw Badger that is a great story!

Busy day here. I tried to get my bathroom back together, went to Pound, got my Moderna Shot #2, walked dogs, dealt with a baby dog, and went to Barre Sculpt. I am tired (not from the shot, from the day) but I am getting very cold (the same SE I had after shot #1).

Ruth, your puppy is so cute - what is the name? Karen, have a wonderful visit with your daughter.
I met my husband at an AA meeting in Paris. For my 40th birthday (early November - no friends wanted to travel that dismal month) solo to London spending a week hanging out and then jumped on the 'chunnel' for a week in Paris. Our first meeting was at the American Church that is on the Quai d'Orsay (left bank) facing the Seine. A tall slim Englishman walked in late to the AA meeting wearing a motorcycle jacket and helmet tucked under his arm with a white wonky much too long home knit scarf around his neck. - that took forever to unwind. After the meeting we all went to coffee at a near by cafe.. This man turned to me and asked if I had ever seen the Eiffel Tower at night. Thought I had heard ever pick-up line and that was a first. Was coaxed by other women at the table to go as he was safe and the Eiffel Tower at night is beautiful. As we parted at the top pf the steps of the metro I was asked if we could get together the next day (Saturday) as this man would pick me up in front of the American Church in the morning for a little sight seeing. He pulled up in front of the church in his rather beat-up silver Lotus and off we went outside Paris to Château de Chantilly and he had packed a picnic lunch for us to eat in the forest,. We clicked and stuck together for the rest of my Parisian visit, ending with him handing me a red rose, waving good by as the taxi whisked me to Charles de Gaulle Airport to fly back to San Francisco. We had a 6 month long distance relationship and in July I took the big leap, sold my car - put things in storage - left the houseboat I was renting in Sausalito - job - and moved to Paris. We lived in Paris for 9 years. During that time we married and I gave birth at 43 to our son - we moved to London when he was 6 and a half. We have been married for 23 years.
I'm teaching Pilates at 12:15 for an hour (supposedly a 45 min class and always go over). Tomorrow morning and Sunday morning I'm on a Zoom course billed as a long covid first aid course. Most of it is on breath work and aimed at yoga teachers. Trying to get every bit of knowledge I can of how to/best rehab long covid. Enjoy Friyay everyone!

I think we could do a short film with clips of how we met our significant others. Lots of romantic stories out there!
DH & I both feel pretty beat up after Shot #2 (both very cold & DH has a headache.....same as with the first shot & we should feel fine by tomorrow). I just cancelled my class for today, but of course we will have to go dog walking. The puppy's name is Bruno.

All these stories have been fantastic.
LB, I have always thought you were years younger than me given how beautiful and fit you are (inside and out)...I had to reread the numbers a couple of times - your 40 birthday adventure! No way, I'm thinking typo, I thought you are now in your early/mid 50's! How wonderful for you to have taken that trip and the big leap 6 months later. Also have enjoyed time at the American Church.
Happy Friday all...yogalates (yoga/pilates) yesterday, yoga and first shot tomorrow. Today lots of work and a walk. TT

Slept till almost 6 this morning which is late for me but i'm still tired. We drove up to the mountains last night - didn't leave till almost 7:30 so it was dark by then. I usually like to drive but not at night so after about 15 minutes, DH and I changed seats. DD was sitting in the back. Poor thing gets car sick and it is much worse since the vertigo last year. She was sitting in the back seat. After bout 45 minutes we had to stop so she could get out of the car, get some fresh air and throw up (sorry for TIA), then she felt better. In between work yesterday we took a couple short walks then after work the 3 of us walked before dinner. It is so nice to have her here. Dinner conversation was so nice. DD was telling us how hard this past year was with no hugs (she is a hugger and touchy feely) and not being able to see us. So thankful that it worked out for her to come for 2 1/2 weeks. Hopefully we can travel to Israel this summer. M first trip was in 2007. Then from 2010 to 2019 I went 13 or so more time - so I need to make up for lost time. She really is a mix between her Dad and me - well her siblings too. Today is her 23rd birthday - first time with her on her birthday in 5 years. Going to head out to hike in a couple hourrs.
Have a great Friday/

love the stories! Nice to have your daughter back, karen
Hubby and I met in NYC when I advertised for a roommate at the university housing office. It was love at first sight for me because he was so tanned then. I had second thoughts when the tan faded. Lol. Fortunately he's outdoorsy and gets tanned a lot. I could barely understand his English then. We had a transatlantic relationship for three years before I moved to Switzerland, Can't believe I gave up my public service job to learn to ski.
Walked the dog today and met a puppy named Bruno, an Australian shepherd.
Zumba later and maybe some weights if I get motivated. My knee has been wonky again but feels better after dancing and stretching. I still didn't get to the outdoor gym classes as the weather did not cooperate. Next week may be my chance. It looks like gyms here won't be opening anytime soon. DH and I did get appointments for Moderna shots next week.

I so love these stories Thank you all for sharing, I feel like we're sitting around a cafe table drinking coffee and chatting about our lives.
I did HIIT today (wimped out of running in the 29F weather, c'mon spring). Then I finished w/ some abs and a good stretch.
I'm considering getting a trainer, there's a woman here who's certified in all sorts of things and set up her gym for cancer survivors. Which would be really useful as I'm not sure someone not trained would get the mobility & pain issues from radiation and surgery.

edj3, I wonder if your insurance would cover part of the cost of "training" if your MO wrote a prescription for it. Just a thought.

Also loving all the how-we-met stories. Maybe a Sculpted Sisters trip isn't in the cards for this year but it is so much fun to meet IRL!
Had an unexpectedly busy day. Mom fell Weds night, cut her leg, and hurt her arm. Doctor wanted to see her this morning for those complaints and some edema in her legs. So got up early and drove to her AL place, hopped a ride in the wheelchair van, and off we went to the clinic for a few hours. She will not ride in my car so we have to book a van. Doc visit, x-rays, and labs ate up a few hours then waited for the van for the trip back to her place. Wasn't home until 1 PM. Ate lunch then walked to the library and back. It was a bit chilly but the sun was nice and I needed to move after sitting so much. In addition to her other physical issues, mom has congestive heart failure which is a powerful motivation to stay healthy into my old age.

Trm Tab you are kind - proudly 65 and the American Church Paris is rather special. Edj3 - sounds like a terrific trainer and yet not read you speak of mobility & pain issues from radiation and surgery. I too like reading of each other. Heidi Hill, gym will get to slightly open next month by offer a classes outdoors. Indoor group exercise cannot open until May 17th. Hair dressers open April 12 and I finally got an appointment for April 30th! Everyone is sporting awful hair - especially the PM! Must dash as my course starts at 9am and the link just came through.

after taking 2 weeks off of *all* exercise to deal with my neck/back/shoulder/arm issue I’m happy to have gotten back on the exercise bike. I turned down the resistance and didn’t focus on speed.
This week I pedaled 50.2 miles over 6 days.

Badger -- I am so sorry about your mom's fall and your day gone sideways!
Lilac: Love your story (and somehow makes me hum "Vincent Black Lightning", though happy yours has a much better ending!) My DH and I met online. Boring! But he didn't think I would reply to his message, and I was certain once he met me he would realize I was no where near cool enough for him, but figured maybe we could be friends.
NotAs Calm: Hooray for your neck improving and getting back on the bike!
I have had a headache for two weeks, made worse by exercise, which is worrisome, but I am hoping that it is neck strain. The tens unit and heat on the neck do seem to help. I just rowed, hard, and the headache is worse but not as bad as the last few days. Today we are joining vaccinated friends for an exploration of some feldspar mines. Hopefully the ice is still frozen enough to walk on (the only way in) if not a nice little hike outside and a perhaps a cocoa at Burdick's chocolates afterwards! Though I did give up chocolate cold-turkey a few days ago in case it was making my headaches worse.
I hope everyone stays well!

Lilac, yes this pain/mobility issue has been going on since July 2019 as I finished radiation. It's so funny (weird, not ha ha)--the RO is positive her treatment did nothing, the BS is too. Only the MO says yeah our treatments suck. And of course I'm not on tamoxifen any more after my short attempt.
Basically it looks like I have cording in my left breast from the bottom right side up into my arm pit, which always hurts. And I've got a spot on my left rib that always hurts. And some what feels like nerve pain in the arm, so I want to be very careful about who I work with.
Here's her website if anyone is interested (she also offers remote sessions):
I'm going to hold off meeting her until after my next melanoma scan on Tuesday, and then the nerve conduction test for my right foot (which to be frank, sounds like it is not a fun procedure at all).
I ran today, increased the mileage by a tiny bit. It was still really cold, wind chill was 26F but tomorrow will be a busy morning with church at 8. Then my husband's going to head to Tulsa as his mother's nursing home is now allowing visitors. He hasn't seen his mother in well over a year

edj, glad your DH gets to see his mom. My sister & her DH are on the road to see his 95 year old parents, whom they haven't seen in a year either.
Badger, hope your mother is doing better!
NotAsCalm, smart to start back slowly!
Karen, I know you are enjoying every moment with DD!!
I went to Zumba, did a couple walks with the puppy, and introduced Bruno to several of the neighbor dogs. He loves other dogs and children too. He will either keep us young or wear us out!

Badger - sorry to hear about your mother
We drove up to the mountains Thursday after work. Great hiking Friday and Saturday. Beautiful blue sky and sunny. Trails were packed down but off the trail the snow was at least 3 feet deep (we stepped off a couple times to let people go by. It snowed a few inches last night and will start snowing again mid afternoon. Originally we were going to stay till after dinner to miss the crazy Sunday rush hour down the mountain. But now thinking about leaving by noon so may hike a little bit this morning. Have to pack up and clean the place before we leave. DD said Friday she got exactly what she wanted for her birthday . Hiking and being in the mountains. Also cooked some of her favorite foods including veggies she doesn't get at home or are too expensive.
Will post photos from my phone.

Great pix, Karen! Is that a moose?
Edj, glad your hubby is able to visit his mom. It will be good for them both. Ruth, ditto for your sister and her DH.
Talked to my mom this morning. She seems to be doing OK. She asked for a birdfeeder so will bring that next week. We have an extra feeder and "shepherd's crook" pole. DH pulled it out of the ground this morning. So, just need to pick up a bag of birdseed. That will be something fun for her to look at outside her window. Got an email from her AL place yesterday that face-to-face visits will be allowed starting next week. Most of the residents and staff have been vaccinated against COVID and the CDC/WI Dept. of Health are relaxing the rules a bit. Still have to be screened and masked, and maintain physical distance, but can visit in her apartment instead of the lobby separated by plexiglass. That will give me a chance to see her apartment and gauge if there's room for some of furniture in the storage unit.
Happy Spring! Got outside for a walk to celebrate. It was a bit windy but not so bad that I was dissuaded. Lots of people out walking, many happy dogs, and a couple girls on rollerblades.

Beautiful pics!. I traveled from South West Florida to RI today. Many doc appts, lab work and X/Rs, just a check up. Long flights and they were packed. No covid restrictions on South West. I tested neg for Covid at Providence airport when I landed, I have had one vaccine, next on April 1st. Nice to be back in RI or should I say New England, with the fresh air, but much colder!!!! I'm actually sitting in front of fire with my flannels on

Barre Sculpt, Yoga, and dog walking. I live on the top of a hill and a couple blocks away is a golf course with a great overlook of the town below. We went over to catch the sunset. Here are a couple nice pictures. The first looking toward town (the tall structure is a grain elevator) and the second is looking the opposite way towards the fairway.
