I did my Virtual 5k, on the treadmill because it is rather nasty out. This was my first time trying walk/run intervals since chemo and I ended up in the ER then, the day after, with my leg swollen up like a sausage. THAT was my first attempt at running since breaking my leg rather badly about 6 mo before the cancer diagnosis. Of course when my leg swelled we ALL thought it was a blood clot, because... cancer. But it was just trying to run on an unhappy leg. So I took almost 45 minutes to do this one and now I have a post-exercise headache and my leg hurts, but I am going to try really hard to not jump right headache = mets.
It did feel good to add a bit of running back to the mix Perhaps if I take it slow I can do some outside 5 ks this summer. My balance is getting better -- at least when I am going in a straight line on smooth ground.
My Sis is going out snowshoeing with the dogs -- 2 feet so far where she is. I wouldn't mind a giant March snow storm here, but I also want the densely packed deep snow on the back deck to melt first.
ETA: Seems I was chocolate-deficient. Headache greatly improved now that my blood levels of chocolate are back into normal levels.

Rain, rain and more rain here. I rowed this morning and fried my upper body before getting my second vaccine this morning. I'm glad I did, my arm is already far sorer than w/ the first one. And that is just fine, I'm vaccinated.

Well, the snow is a day late and now we have a blizzard warning till midnight - at my house at least 19" - running out of room to put the snow from the driveway. Thankfully, my school district called a snow day tomorrow by about 1pm. If it's still bad Tuesday, we move to remote learning. I'm looking forward to the extra time tomorrow to do things in the house to get ready for for DD, and Passover. Baked DD's peanut butter chocolate chip cookie (giant cookie) and then regular size cookies with the extra dough. I baked mandel bread on Friday for her to take home so she'll have lots of Mom's cookies going home. Denver is making the national news - headlines on NBC news. Worst snow storm in 5 years!! I think it will rival 2003. Denver made headline news on NBC at 4:30.
Everyone stay safe

2003 up at my sister's and mom's was over 7 feet. So they are not going to come anywhere close (what sis was hoping for -- mostly due to drought and fire danger, but she also loves a good snow storm)

I watched Denver's weather on the National News tonight. Yikes! There were some boys getting paid to shovel snow who were pretty happy though.
Walked & went to Yoga today.

Official total at DIA is 24.1". Blizzard warning till midnight and it's still snowing lightly. 1-3" more.
Ruth - yup Denver was headline news on NBC. Happy to have a snow day tomorrow. Lots to do in the house. My intern wants to meet for an hour tomorrow - we normally meet for 2 hours on Monday - will let her know in the morning.
Did lots of baking today (in between shoveling) for DD to take home. plus there is still 2 weeks till Passover. I love baking and its fun to bake when there are people to eat it.
Tired - so off to bed.
Stay safe and stay warm

We got 2 1/4 inches of rain over the weekend, which I will take over snow in March.
I'm feeling fairly crummy today post-vaccine so I actually am taking the day off. I'm not one of those idiot/martyrs who go to work when sick, I just don't get sick very often.

edj - feel better
Official snow accumulation at DIA late last night - 27.1". My whole body is sore from all the shoveling. I have't looked out the front door a the driveway and sidewalk. DD did the sidewalk around 9:30 last night.
Denver made headline news on NBC last night at 4:30pm and its on now on The Today Show!!! Snow has finally stopped snowing. This storm is the 2nd largest March storm (2003 the largest) and 4th largest in CO history. 2003 Denver had 31". Over 2000K flights canceled yesterday and so far today over 800 canceled but just heard flights were to resume later this morning. Kids were out shoveling yesterday and making $. Sure wish some energetic teens would have knocked on my door!
Going to enjoy my snow day working in the house.
Keeping my fingers crossed, hoping and praying that weather doesn't interfere with DD's travel plans. She is due to leave late Wednesday night and arrive here Thursday mid morning. I will cry if she doesn't make it.
Stay safe and stay warm.

I'm watching the weather right now and it looks dry in your neck of the woods later this week, Karen. Fingers crossed DD will get in without any travel delays.
The new bathtub & surround that I put the down payment on in October is finally being installed today & tomorrow. I am skipping my morning exercise class to greet the workers when they show up. I am also typing with a little dog sleeping by my side. DS's girlfriend works at the Humane Society & yesteray they got in a little puppy who was so scared he was just shaking in his kennel. DS agreed to foster him for a few days, but of course works during the day (as does she) and didn't dare leave the dog running around his house (with his other dogs) so I said he could hang with us.......we may accidentally end up with a dog......

Awww Ruth, what a cutie!
Karen, been watching the snowfall out West. Looks like the whole Front Range of the Rockies got socked. The storm just made it here. Our forecast has gone from 1-3 inches, to 2-4 inches, and now to 4-6 inches. There's some Shovel & Sculpt in my future.
Edj, hope you feel better soon!

What a cute accident that would be, Ruth!
Thanks, Moth, for the article. Nice overview. I think it's really important to do exercise therapy for lymphedema prevention. I was trying to get this message to people on the Lymphedema forum here 10 years ago, and had people getting bent out shape for going against the grain of prevailing practices. I had practiced (progressive strength training, etc.) what I preached based on a European protocol (before Schmitz's study) with the help of a personal trainer and a physiotherapist. It made me stronger and maybe helped beat back spinal met recurrence/progression, free of swelling. My DEXA scans for bone density even showed improvement. So a win-win. The cardio story is also pertinent here but is probably more complicated than the lymphedema story in general. I did have the red devil with its cardio toxicity and radiation to the left side. So far my heart is fine. My lungs also took a hit from radiation and that damage is hopefully healed as no lesions have been seen in the lungs for some time. Folks, there is a LOT to be gained from exercising. So keep it up!
Strength training this morning, Zumba later. Fun times in the snow with Sammy yesterday.

Just got back from getting my mom to shot 2! In the one year ago reflection, today one year ago was my last day of spring break in Hawaii before return to east coast and the lock down...one final sunset.
Love the puppy Ruth! And the video of Sammy's Snow day...especially like the Sammy Snow angels. TT

everyone is doing so well with exercise! I'm going through the motions of exercise, I've just been so blah about everything lately, I'm in a mood funk. Got my first vaccine dose today. We've done some new (to me at least) exercises in RIPPED and I can actually do them 😂 10 months of the gym and can see a difference. Keep it up everyone... even inthose mood funks.

I'm feeling more human today, still tired but not so achy and the chills are gone. As with the first vaccine, my arm is unreasonably sore.
In a fit of common sense, I didn't work out today. Honestly that's hard for me but as my husband pointed out this morning, I nearly always am close to or over the line of over training. He's right.
We've gotten nearly 3 inches of rain in the last several days. I'm glad it wasn't cold enough to be snow, otherwise I too would be joining the Shovel & Sculpt class!

HeidiHill, what fun Sammy is having in the snow! Wish I had as much fun yesterday but five inches of wet heavy snow did NOT make me want to frolic in it.
Ruth, the first robins showed up yesterday. Poor things, hopping around in the snow. No insects or worms to be found. I pulled down my bird feeder Sun. night so the seeds wouldn't get all snowy and wet but will go put it back out now. Maybe I will lay the suet feeder on the ground. The suet cake is in a wire cage so the squirrels *shouldn't* be able to bogart it.
Together, you are doing great. It may be hard to tell day-to-day but look at your progress over the past 10 months.
TT and Marta, nice pix from warm places one year ago.

Lovely sunset picture! Here is a sunrise over the Atlantic picture I took when I was in Florida a year ago February. Glad I could sneak that trip in before the shutdown!

More spinning today! I'm feeling a need to get back into strength training, but so hard to motivate myself at home (no gym to go to right now). Pre-shutdown (which was pre-Dx) I was powerlifting 2-3 days/week and I loved it! I have plenty of equipment (when the gym shut down they let us all borrow equipment, so I have a bunch of kettlebells). I know I just need to do it . . . I'm sure once I start I will be happy that I did. Maybe tomorrow, but maybe not...

DH and I have apparently gone crazy because it looks like we are going to accidentally adopt a dog. DS's girlfriend works at the Humane Society. Sunday someone surrendered a very, very scared 4 month old puppy. She didn't want to leave him there overnight all alone so she brought him home, eventually to DSs, from there to our house for 'just a few days'......but, alas, we have rather fallen in love.

Oh she's just adorable.

Oh goodness Ruth, I am in love as well! What a cutie!
Tonight a walk outside (sunshine after work!!!!) then rowed with my class. The leg I broke is telling me how unhappy it is now with the virtual 5k I did on Sunday, but I will nevertheless do a day of walk-run tomorrow before I do a quick strength-training session with my rowing coach (not the personal training weight-training I did yesterday)
I am FINALLY feeling like I am gaining back the muscle I lost to TCHP. I feel like while I was on kadcyla I just wasn't making that much progress. But I can row a lot harder without my heart rate shooting up as much (other than last week's anomaly) and I can actually see muscle.

Ruth - beautiful puppy - enjoy!!
Love the sunset photos.
A good deal of the snow has melted, but still a lot more to melt. It should be gone by the week-end.
Will feel better tomorrow when DD flight takes off - its 10:55pm her time, 1:55pm my time and then again when she takes off from JFK to Denver. Flight is due in at 10 something am Denver time. DH will pick her up at the airport. I signed up to help with interviews - but right now the last one is 1:30 so I should be done by 2:30 - sure hope they don't fill the last spot. Can't wait to wrap my arms around her in a big hug. She texted me to send photos of tops she has in her closet to help with her packing. Since she plans on shopping while here, she best not pack to the 50# limit.
Snow flurries right now but shouldn't amount to more than an inch. Both our shovels are just about ready to fall off the handle. Ordered new ones from ACE - they'll be here Monday - shouldn't need any before then.
Need to go make dinner, then figure out what I need to do tonight.
Have a great Tuesday night.

I am excited from afar for your DD's visit Karen!
Barre Sculpt tonight. Along with having a new puppy in the house, my new bathtub and surround were installed yesterday and today. I dusted the whole upstairs after they left, and need to vacuum and touch up paint before I put things back in place. It looks nice and was a long overdue project so worth a little extra cleaning.

Karen -- Enjoy your daughter's visit!

Ruth and Yes - thanks. Not that I'm counting but DDD's flight leaves in about 9 hours and arrives in about 30 hours!!!
Up way too early, but I can't stay to lay in bed staring at the ceiling - got up at 4:45 - I have the quiet for another hour or so till DH gets up.
Going to look on fb, then do paperwork for work.
Happy St. Patricks Day to those who celebrate and happy Wednesday to all.

The side effects from my second vaccine were pretty much done by last night. But then we attended a virtual whiskey tasting so um yeah that might have made me a little draggy this morning!
Here's a funny story--22 years ago, I was in Atlanta on a week long business trip along with 87 other colleagues. This was a very intense week, we met for 10 to 12 hours a day hashing (arguing) out requirements for a very complex project. My now husband had met me maybe a month or two earlier and was interested in me. I didn't return that interest.
Anyway, 22 years ago today a bunch of us went out to celebrate St. Pat's day (and honestly to blow off some steam). We'd been out for hours, and ended up at a bar with really great dance music. One guy where was doing a really athletic version of the Bus Stop (remember that dance??) with leaps and twirls, it was really cool. I asked him to teach me so he did and we kept dancing for a good long while. Finally I had to stop and this is what he said:
"OK--I'll go teach your husband" and pointed to my now husband.
So our joke ever since then is that we got "married" in a bar in Atlanta

edj3, that's a great story. I met my husband the first time on the steps of the girls' dormitory at a college I was attending. His girlfriend introduced us. Fast forward about 11 years and I met him again at church. I asked him out one night and we were married 10 months after that. We're coming up on 33 years. (I had to stop and think about that number!) We're pretty sure that our marriage is going to last. We always joke that we've made it X number of years, so we'll try another of that number and if it's not working, we'll call it quits.
It's a little more sobering with a Stage IV diagnosis, but who says I can't beat the odds, right?
Happy Saint Patrick's Day from this Irish girl!

Sweet stories edj and Sunshine. I met my DH in a bar on Halloween (so I better not criticize how anyone else meets their love interests). He was dressed as a gorilla and I as an obnoxious tourist. When we started talking, I found we knew many of the same people (and he had taken some kids from the Big Brother Program out trick-or-treating before going out for the evening-so I figured he wasn't an axe murderer when he asked me out on a date for the next night). I can't say it was love at first sight, because at first sight he looked like a monkey!
A little chilly this morning. Some of the Walking Women walked outside, the others in. We had coffee in one of the lady's headed garage/shop. Happy St Patrick's Day!
