Edj, what a frustrating experience. Go for a test that wasn't done and then be told you needed the test you went for. AARGH!

Ruth, poor lil guy. I feel for Bruno and you & DH. Hope your family dinner was fun. What did you make for dessert?

Got first jab yesterday. Stocked up on queasiness supplies like ginger ale just in case but (knock wood) feeling OK this morning. Walked yesterday afternoon and will again today. It's supposed to be nice.

I got out my new running shoes yesterday and did a very slow 5 miles. My goal was to go the distance, which I did. Six miles in all with trip to the grocery store next door. Today is a dog walk and beers with a friend post Covid #2 - his dogs. Tomorrow is one final ski as they are still grooming the trails. Always lovely to have a bonus ski day in April. Will make myself a small ham for Easter Dinner as well as an apple dessert that my grandmother used to make and which I have never made. She used to make a daffodill cake for Easter.

I may take myself out for an Eggs Benedict at the Belgian bakery in town. One of the best I have ever had.

For everyone who celebrates, Happy Easter!!! My last chemo was the day after Easter, and I thought that I had been reborn at the cellular level. Such a time of joy as the earth comes alive once again. The flowers and trees are approaching the height of spring. I will do the Tulip Pedal with friends in 2 weeks. Such a lovely time. I recorded birdsong in the bog last night. So special.

    Happy, happy Easter!! - Claire

Oh, poor Bruno! I hope he is feeling better and you all are sleeping better Ruth!

edj: I am sorry for the frustration, delay and additional appointment!

    Badger: Congratulations on the vax!

Claire: Jealous you can still ski! Our town x-country trails just closed about a week ago, and already there is no snow, except that bit that fell yesterday.

Was in the teens here overnight, going to be a brisk day but sunny, so have a walk planned with friends. Not sure of the destination -- they are down south near Brattleboro, so will likely meet somewhere in the middle. It is mud season here, so the best hiking trails are all essentially closed. Last night I rowed, the night before that I had my personal-training strength training, and the night before that I had my rowing group body-weight-only strength training. I am getting stronger, but I am sore all over! So a nice long but gentle walk is probably good.

Not full on spring here yet, but have crocus and snowdrops blooming already, and 2 days ago Mr. and Mrs. Mallard showed up on our pond (which melted all in one fell swoop this year! Over just 24 hours)

Last night we had lots of fun with my brother, SIL, an old family friend, DS, and his girlfriend (all of us vaccinated except for the GF). I went to Yoga & Zumba this morning, did some last minute Easter shopping & have done two long dog walks this afternoon, along with getting ready for tomorrow. Bruno slept most of yesterday & is back to his normal, busy self today. Here he is surverying his domain.

Looks like you are well protected from squirrels, Ruth!

I did strength training this morning, then a lot of housecleaning/laundry, then moved the deck furniture back out onto the now almost snow free deck! Then tried to rake some matted leaves off the lawn and quickly decided to just focus on the beds where the bulbs are coming up and worry about the lawn a few minutes at a time over the next couple of weeks. Raking is hard work! Now resting for a few minutes before another little bout in the kitchen and perhaps the front hall (aka the mud room).

I hope everyone who celebrates is having a wonderful Easter or end of Passover.

    Hope everyone had lovely weekend.

It got really cold in central FL. Got to test brand new HVAC which was installed a week ago. Now I am happily satisfied both ways.

Walked w hubby Thursday 7 mile plus along high traffic road. Walked 9 miles plus on Friday. Walked 7 mile plus yesterday. And I was out yesterday And today. It probably was comb of weather and existing arthritis because hips hurt a bit. Epsom salt bath did wonders!!!

No walk today only 1 mile plus so far. Weather changed for better.

Tomorrow is about 3 mile plus walk only and on the way back I pick up very light grocery to bring home.

And It looks like I am crushing Garmin wkly step challenge. It closes at Sunday midnight and the second one trailing me is about 30,000 steps less than what I have.

Passover ended tonight - DD#2 made wacky mac box mac and cheese and I ate some and it wasn't as good as I remember when the kids were little - also bought Entemann's Chocolate Frosted donuts (a tradition when Passover is over) - I ate 1 1/2 and DD 2 1/2 - now its like yuk!! As soon as Passover was over we went to the grocery store to get last minute things for her to take home. She is at the weigh limit for her luggage - she gets 2 bags with her fare home and both are close to 50# - a friend ordered several things (DD#2 offered her friend to order and friend is going to pick DD up at the airport when she lands) and DD did lots of shopping. Its been a great visit but went by all too quickly. I'm going to miss her, more so as we don't know when we will be able to travel/when the border will open.

Spring break is over and its back to work tomorrow - thankfully its a non-student contact day and remote work day for me so I'll be here when DH takes DD to the airport.

Hit 80 today!! Tomorrow 81, then it will cool off on Tuesday to 55 on Tuesday, then 60s and 70s the rest of the week.

Hope all who celebrate Easter had a great holiday.

    Sweet dreams.

We are on your same weather track, Karen. It was in the 70s over the weekend, 60s today & then back to the 50s. We need rain so bad!!!

We had a lovely Easter. An old family friend (who likes dogs), DS, GF and their 3 dogs came over; so it was a full house and included several dog walks. After everyone left, Bruno passed out in the middle of the floor & didn't move as I walked over and around him cleaning up. My brother & his wife come back through on their way home today so I am skipping my morning exercise class to play hostess one more time. Zumba tonight.

    Hello All,

I’m about 2 month after my mastectomy without reconstruction on my left breast. I’m staring my hiking routine back nicely (about 5 miles/day). I would like to start yoga too, (just beginner level) but wonder if I should wait or get the clearance from my doctor (which is about in 6 weeks). Do we need to watch out anything with yoga given out mastectomy wounds, being lopsided, or upper strength/arm.

I wish you all the best and strength

I didn't have a mastectomy but I did have a lumpectomy and radiation and I was counseled NOT to do yoga for about six months after radiation ended.

I'm not a doctor so best to check w/ yours.

Welcome tntnsd! I didn't start yoga until a couple years after BC treatments, so can't answer that question, but Lilac will be able to when she checks in as she teaches yoga!

Six months of no yoga? That sounds like an awfully long time... *sigh* I guess the docs don't tell you all this stuff up front because they don't want to be the bearers of bad tidings, huh?

Well, reading everyone's posts is informative, anyway.

Hiya! I walked my dog this morning, as I do every morning for at least 30 minutes. Only for about 40 minutes, and it was mostly standing around while the old girl sniffed to her heart's content, and then I dragged her home because I was cold and hungry.

If I can get my act together, I'll be doing my 40 minutes of daily PT that have nothing to do with cancer.

If I can really motivate myself, I'll also be doing at least 30 minutes of cardio.

And I'll do yoga before bed, because that's the best way to end the day! (Not sure what the heck I'll do for my mental health after surgery, but maybe I'll be too tired to care?)

Well and who knows, maybe your care team will be less conservative? Mine knew I work out a lot, including weights, planks and yoga so perhaps that's why I got the directive I did. Having NOT listened to post op instructions after various abdominal surgeries and then ending up with a lot of painful adhesions, I did follow advice this time.

edj3 I have a family member that had mystifying symptoms and numbness was part of it and the nerve tests were done, as were a billion other tests. After years of tests etc he was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and now due to cPap usage, all numbness, tingling, lightheadedness, etc are gone. Changed his whole life. It's an out-there idea but with a painless easy test (sleep study).

DD#2 had her Covid test on Friday, got her negative results but the test results did not include her passport number. They told her if she got denied entry and had to return to the US it would be on her cost and no recourse with Delta. DH was with her and after 1/2 hour she got checked in and she was feeling good. Well, when she got to NY (JFK) she got really nervous since her results didn't have her passport #. So after much anxiety, tears etc, she got tested at the airport for a small chunk of $. She was too worried that they wouldn't let her on the flight or she would get home and be told to turn around. Once she got the test results with her passport number on it, she was able to relax - except old mom got all stressed with all the back and forth. Best option was just to pay for the testing - she was worried about the money and I said just do it. Boarding starts in about 30-40 minutes and flight is in 75 minutes. She gave daddy (DH) a big hug when he left her at the airport and she said saying goodbye was even harder not knowing when we will get to see each other. She told him that if she knew it was even a year, it would be easier. As stressed as she gets, she really is quite some young lady, very independent and resourceful, especially for her age and living 6K miles from us. OF course most of her friends are just like her.

    Welcome tnt and castigame.

Today was busy and the rest of the week seems like it will also be crazy busy at work. My coverage at one school was supposed to end the 12th and now its the 19th which is fine, but I'm supposed to start another coverage on the 12, and that school has me scheduled for 2 meetings this week. I think on the 12th since I'm remote, (remote, M,TH and in person T,W) I can cover both schools. I'm on call this week for the district crisis team and two schools need support tomorrow. I asked for the school with the shorter time and virtual so I could be at my Tuesday school. Another member of the crisis team will cover the other school.

I'm tired tonight - sweet dreams

Karen: I was starting to stress out just reading about your dd and her covid test! Thankfully she was able to get another one that included her passport number.

Castigame: WTG with your weekly Garmin step challenge!

    Welcome tnt and saltmarsh!

Today was yard work day. 85 minutes push mowing. Spent hours pulling weeds and trimming some trees. We have an area that vines have started to take over so I did lots of tugging to pull them out of trees and bushes. What a mess!

I won't say it's impossible but I highly doubt I have sleep apnea--however should all these other tests come back negative, I'll check that possibility out.

I ran this AM, and followed up with bodyweight leg immediately after. That's a tip from my running coach to do the strength work before cooling down from the run. It's been effective for me :)

First response - talk to your doc and be careful...I have found it takes 6 months to be fully healed INSIDE even when I have felt the outer layer was healed in a week or two.

That said -- Yoga, in many of its various styles, is my main form of formal exercise...I was told to wait 6 weeks which I did after surgery 3 and 4...after my last surgery I started gentle/restorative yoga at 4 weeks. I think the key here is knowing/listening to your body. Are you going to be able to do all postures at full strength 4-6-8 weeks after surgery - no. But starting gently and doing more each time will get you back to full fighting speed gradually and one day it will be like - wow I did that without hesitation or any pinching, I guess I'm back!

I think the surgeons are sometimes way too cautious so that they can control the final outcome/be able to blame anything that isn't perfect on our doing something...TT

hi all and welcome tntnsd and saltmarsh!

tnt, yes wait for your doc's OK. Remember you are healing on the inside as much as the outside and go easy on yourself. I started doing yoga six months after surgery, with a free Gentle Yoga for BC survivors class in Madison. It was outdoors in a park by a lake. We were all in various states of being bald, flat, etc, so I felt no judgment or shame. So beautiful and relaxing, I was hooked. A big step considering a few months before that, I couldn't reach the top shelf in the grocery store or sleep on my stomach because I was so sore.

Here's a link to BCO's resource page on exercise for people with or at risk for lymphedema. https://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/lymphedema/exercise

I walked on Saturday but on Sunday, I was so fatigued it felt like my legs wouldn't support me. So, I rested. Felt better yesterday so walked in the afternoon once it stopped raining.

TrmTab and Badger, I thought you said HEATING not HEALING!!! "It takes six months to HEAT." "You're HEATING on the inside as much as the outside..." Boy, was I confused. I was wondering where the heck you live where it takes six months to heat something!

Got it figured out and had a good laugh, so thanks for that.

I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous of the yard work, but I will choose to be thankful that I can still walk and pedal my under desk elliptical.

Hope you all have an awesome day!

Well, from my perspective in SE Virginia, it doesn't take 6 month to heat something...especially in August...but Badger is in Wisconsin -- the main reason I declined an offer to go to grad school at Madison was I thought it would take 6 months for me to heat up!

Bruno and I contemplate the Mysterious Ways of Squirrels on our walk this morning. I'm sure there will be more walking before the day is done plus Barre Sculpt.

Lost my original post as I clicked out of bco by mistake instead of another window.

DD's flight last night from JFK ended up getting cancelled. Something wrong with plane so they had to change planes. Everyone deplanes and waits by gate while the airlines transfers everything off the original plane to the new plane. It's now about 1:45 am (2 hours late) and they find out pilot can't fly the plane. Hotel vouchers and cab vouchers. It was almost 3 by the time she got to the hotel, showered and went to sleep. Thankfully she slept till close to noon. Of course this mom can't go to bed till she knows what is happening - I did fall asleep on the sofa in between texts. I think it was 2am my time till I got in bed - and woke up as usual at 5:15. So they booked everyone on a new flight for this evening - created a new flight at 8:45 - slightly smaller plane so her seat isn't as nice but no one next to her. Thankfully flight took off on time! What an ordeal. Glad she is finally in the air and headed home. She is due to land about 2:30 in the afternoon which will be 5:30 am my time - so I'll be up when she texts that she landed. Her girl friend is picking her up at the airport.

It was raining earlier for a couple hours - almost looked like it was turning to snow, but I think it has stopped. Last time I looked it was 36. Tomorrow it is warming up.

Great photos Ruth. Bruno is a gorgeous dog. Remind me how old and type.

Sunshine - pretty funny heating/healing!!! Welcome.

Goodness, Karen, what a stressful time! My sister just had a horrible airplane experience when they visited her in-laws (after not seeing them for a year). Makes me want to stay on the ground (and I like to travel!). Bruno will be 4 months old on Friday. His dad is a German Shorthair & his mom is a very nice pit-bull (according to the vet whose patient she is). He just had his last baby-dog shots today.

Glad DD is headed home and problems fixed, karen. saltmarsh, sounds like a good program. I've always wanted to get into the habit of doing yoga before bed. But first I probably have to get into the habit of doing yoga.

edj, could it be a neck or back injury where some nerve got compressed or inflamed? I did get this sort of injury at least once and nothing showed on CT scans (done to rule out mets). I was almost half paralyzed the first time. My MO told me to take dexa and it was vastly improved. I then undertook an intensive 3-month program to loosen the tight muscles with acupuncture, osteopathy, massage, onsen baths. The second time around was not as bad so just did osteopathy, massage and heating pads. I think when our muscles get so tight, we're more prone to such injuries or ailments.

yesterday was zumba toning (pseudo dancing with weights).

Went to sleep about 1/2 hour early last night as I couldn't keep my eyes open and of course then I wake up early - finally got out of bed at 4:45am - tired of tossing and turning. Waiting for DD's text to say she landed. 5:46 DD jus text that she landed - flight got in on time!

Using my Cubii last night for an hour since it was raining and didn't get a walk in after work or after dinner. When I got home from work it was windy beyond windy. I've doing about 70-75 minutes in the morning when I get up.

Did 35 minutes of Yoga with Adriene last night, and walked the dog for 45+ minutes this morning. I wish I thought our walks counted as aerobic exercise, but I think we go slowly enough they're just "movement." But at least I'm not just sitting on the couch?
