Happy Birthday, Ruth! Testing out the post a reply feature to see what happens.

I had no idea how to get on the threads so I accessed this one from an email notification.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor moving Ruth...as the saying goes, fences make the best neighbors...but for you, you have a fence with your neighbor due to the dogs! On the positive note, another friend in Arizona might mean a second week of visiting in Arizona for you...???

    Happy

TT, we already have second week in Arizona! Next Thursday we are head for Tuscon to do doing some exploring around that area.....staying with my cousin, whose house is so lovely that it could be in a magazine. It's still 'winter' here so it will be another nice break. I went to PiYo & Pound this morning, cleaned house this afternoon.

I wrote the moderators and acknowledged that they are getting lots of complaints, but if they are not fixed soon, I would be saying good-bye to bco. I told them I'd been here 16 years but the problems are too problematic. The slowness is just awful. I'm giving it another week to see improvements or I'll be taking a big vacation from here. If I do, I'll let you know and ask someone to PM me when its fixed.

Snowing here and 17F. Have a great Sunday

I agree with the others here, I am not happy with this update and the forum is so slow I lose interest trying to move around. So disappointing. I hope this site is able to be fixed.

I hope it is fixed SOON too. It takes so much energy to get on that I forget what I wanted to say by the time I get in....which is certainly the opposite of what was intended with the update!! I'm glad that I don't have any urgent concerns that I need to have addressed, that would be very, very bad.

We had company all afternoon so I ended up dancing for an hour with some Marshall Fitness utube routines & did 10 minutes of abs.

Baked poppyseed and honey nut Hamentashen this afternoon. I used Solo canned poppyseed, but the honey nut is a homemade filling. Have a small package to mail my DD#1 and SIL. Actually going to send FedX. His birthday card took 3 weeks to arrive so I"m sure FedX will be faster. I posted pictures of them on FB and my SIL texted me how good they looked. I had told my DD#1 that I wasn't going to send this year and I could hear the disappointment in her voice. I wanted to surprise them, but since SIL saw them on FB, I wanted to tell him to expect a package. He was quite happy. Put a few away for DD#2 when she is here next months - 5 weeks and 2 days, but who is counting!!!

Also made a big pot of chicken soup with barely, carrots, celery and onions. For us, soup by itself is a meal and that's what we had for dinner tonight.

We managed to get 3 walks in today, despite the cold and snow. We only got a few inches. Will be cold all week and more snow on Wednesday night/Thursday.

I messaged the moderators today and they said things were to be fixed this week. Let's hope.

I am crossing my fingers for a fix too, Karen. I would definitely be excited to get those cookies in the mail, they sound & look delicious! My mother used to send me cookies in the mail every once and awhile, and it was such a treat. Both because they were tasty and because they were made by my mom. I'm off to Pound in a few minutes. It is still winter/winter here.

Hello to all! Experiencing the same issues as others described, so not able to come here very often. My screen name looks like "celiac" not CeliaC - I do not have celiac disease! Sorry to have missed your birthday Ruth - Happy Belated! Awaiting the supposed "fixes" mentioned by mods. Barre Lates, Bodyweight Boot Camp and Zumba today.

Aargh...I haven't been able to fully log on and get to the thread in days. Hope all are well. Safe travels to Tuscon tomorrow Ruth. Tai Chi at lunch, cold/rainy 40 degrees...I really enjoyed the two days we had there were high 70's, sat out and read. Only 4 more days of 6pm sunsets....then we Spring Forward! TT

I thought the website would have improved since I last posted. Still not impressed. I'm afraid it's driving people away. SAD!

Been in a slump lately. Walking definitely helps so I'm keeping that up!

This sight is still as slow as molasses.

Wonder isn't it amazing how much walking helps mood.

Two weeks till spring break. I do not like DST. But I was up before 5 without an alarm, but I'm thinking that's my 4 am wake up before I go back to sleep and get up at 5:15ish.

    Have a great Monday

Agree on the loading time. So much for having a fiberoptic network.

Feeling stoked right now. Got my taxes out the door this weekend and today found the help I needed to negotiate an online payments system and get paid for the work I did early this year. Life is looking up.

I also walked to the Regal Cinema to watch the Metropolitan Opera performance of Ariadne auf Naxos on Saturday. Just sublime singing and imaginative staging. On the way there, a lady stopped to ask me if I needed a lift. She was shocked to discover that my car is in perfect working order and that I was walking the two miles there for exercise. On the way back, I explored the trails next to the river and found the perfect route for a run.

Which I did yesterday and will do again this afternoon.

I also figured out the cycling route to the supermarket that I most frequently use, so will be able to do much of my grocery shopping this summer via bicycle. This includes the Downtown Coeur d'Alene farmers market.

I need a cycling map. CDA is a great place with cycling lanes everywhere, but it's also nice to know how it all connects. I am hoping to do a lot more weekday cycling than I could do in my old place. I had a great route when I lived in Seattle (now not feasible due to construction and homeless encampments).

Off to the vineyard in a couple of days for an oysters and wine party and helping out. Hoping to get up skiing at White Pass on Friday where I have never been. Plus hike the Cowiche Canyon.

In the middle of all this, I have a meeting Wednesday with a potential new client. This could be interesting work, but I do not want to get sucked into any full time. We shall see how this all works out.

    Happy almost spring! - Claire

I'm in Arizona until Wednesday. They don't change time so I can delay that headache. Speaking of headaches, this is the first time I've been able to get here on my phone...not good. We've visited a beautiful botanical garden, did tourist things in Tombstone, walked all over an air & space museum. This morning we hiked in a national forest. Lots of fun! I'd post a picture but the site won't let me. I will have to try to figure it out when I get home.

hello ladies, I am looking for advice. I try to exercise my upper body/arms and when I do I get pain and a bit of swelling under arms shoulders and chest. I need to exercise but can’t find the right thing to do without causing injury/pain. This is a pic of what I recently did and I have a lot of pain under my armpits and upper chest. What do you do for exercising? Thank you

Sorry b123. The short answer is that I do a combination of what I love to do and what I hate but what has proven to be effective and is a combination of a 10 lb free weight routine and crunches on an exercise ball on weekdays.

    The fun items are:

    • A minimum of a 2 mile daily walk unless I am doing something else
    • Nordic skiing
    • Cycling, once I get my bicycle back from repair and the weather warms up/ski season ends
    • Running, which I just started doing again now that I have discovered a nice route that I can do out my front door. Running might be a bit optimistic a description, but I do 4-6 miles.
    • Swimming in the summer. I am excited to now be living next to a river with a swimming beach!!!
    • Hiking when the spirit moves. Hoping to get in one this coming weekend.
    • And new for this coming spring, I am getting a kayak. The plan is for my friend and me to greet the sunrise on lake Coeur d'Alene for the Summer Solstice.
I also try to "reverse engineer" exercise into my life where possible. Those extra quarter miles of doing errands on foot do add up. I am planning on doing a lot of errands by bicycle this summer as have learned that I can take cycling paths most of the way to my favorite supermarket.

    Hope this helps. - Claire

Note: I am not a "classes" person and think that the purpose of gyms is to kick my butt out the door. There are exercise machines in my complex, but I do not use them. I do walk down to the river which is where I am headed to get in the glimmers of sunshine before the next round of showers moves in.

b123 - no one beats Claire...but I do like classes and do barre similar to that picture but without weights on my wrists...I do yoga (various styles), tai chi, pilates, barre. Typically 6 days a week something. I also teach and can walk up to a mile in an 80 minute lecture class as I move around the room. I also live downtown in my small town so can walk to work/church/farmer's market, etc...so like Claire get extra exercise via activities of daily living. TT

Claire, wow you stay very active, all sounds good without the stress on the chest wall. So I’m thinking that’s what I need to stick to? I feel good and feel like I can do more, I start doing weight bearing and push ups or planks and I’m in trouble again. I honestly forget each time and then it scares me thinking I did something to the implants. But yes will stick to walking/running, and maybe look into something for upper body without stress?

Trmtab you do barre and yoga and it doesn’t bother you or hurt the chest wall? Your very lucky. The pain I endure under arms, around my chest and sides of my trunk is teeth chattering sometimes, then I have to realize what I did. My arms are getting flabby and I just hate it. I was never told not to weight bear but as I read others stories, that’s what I’m understanding? thanks ladies!

Hi Everyone - long time no see. Good to read and see the photos of what is happening with all of you. I've been busy with teaching yoga & Pilates in gyms and in the community such as yoga for cancer, pink ribbon Pilates and a very well attended Parkinson's exercise class.

b123, has any medical professional looked at why you have such strong truncal pain issues?

    Let's keep at it! LB,xx

Lilacblue, no I have never been told anything. I don't know why this happens? It's a week later and still have achiness under my arms. I'm envious of all of your exercise routines. Do you think this is of concern? I wonder if it’s more of Costochondritis? When I push on my sides (ribs) under my arms it almost feels good (relief) it’s pressure/achiness). Maybe my system just can’t handle upper body stress

LB - so great to see you, I have thought of PM'ing you almost every week for some time now. Hope your DH is okay. I was day dreaming planning a trip to London and thought...I'm going to take a side trip and see if our friend is okay! Hope to make to one of your classes some day.

B - after each surgery (5 in 3 years) I needed to rebuild my abilities/tolerance but have been able to do so. I have wondered why so many yoga poses are flat on your belly (and thus chest) or weird twists that really torque your chest cavity, but now after 3 years without a surgery, the only difficulties I have are in my own abilities, not pain or other issues. Agree with LB, I would have this checked out if it is over 6 months from surgery.

So what I have found out is many women suffer from postmastectomy reconstruction syndrome (PMRS) for years and ongoing. So I need to see a specialist for dos and fonts and ways I can exercise my upper body without pain. There are a lot of options to manage the pain, so will check that out to. Hopefully will get a routine and can keep a healthy lifestyle.
    THANK YOU

b123 - welcome - I'm a walker - I try for 15K steps/day. I try to get out at lunch at work for 20 minutes, then when I get home and after dinner with my DH. In the morning I use my Cubii (under the desk elliptical) for an hour. I don't enjoys class and not one to use equipment so in some ways I'm surprised I've kept up with the Cubii for 1 1 /2 years but now I'm addicted. The walking is so good for my mental health and attitude. And my oncologist says its good for my bones!!! So I joke and say I have an Rx for walking!

It's raining and supposed to turn to snow shortly. Forecast is 3-7". Pretty wide range if you ask me. DH said some models say up to 12". Wonder what we will actually get. If the roads are bad in morning, I can work from home as I have a zoom meeting 8-10 and then helping interview 10:30 - 11:30. Then I can head over to school.

    Sweet dreams

Welcome, b123! Any time I try to go back to see your original post, the site kicks me out. They obviously haven't fixed the glitches yet.....grrrr. It can take a LONG time for things to settle down after surgery, and it is smart to see a specialist to help get things sorted out.

Hi Lilac, great to hear from you!

I just got back from a lovely Arizona vacation. I will now attempt to post a picture of one of the places where we hiked.

Karen, thank you, happy to be here! Wow that’s a lot of walking and peddling. Great idea for sure. Do you ever try upper body exercises? I’m not one for the classes either nor the gym, I like doing at home exercises. But once in a while I feel like I can do anything and try the barre or push-ups, I think I am hurting myself more then helping? Glad I found this group! Hope you didn’t get too much snow!

Ruth thank you! Your pictures are lovely! I see your a walker as well. I don’t know how some can do so much with upper body including lifting and planks where as some can’t even tolerate a 2lb wt?? My shoulders sides and chest ache and zingy sometimes. It settles with ibprofen. But just concerns me that I’m so restricted after all this time. I shouldn’t complain because I thank god everyday for being here and having another day to complain lol.
thanks for the warm welcome ladies and your support.

b123, get checked by the doctor first. Once you get the clear, you can start some upper body work (maybe a PT referral would be in order?). If you are doing it on your own (or in a class setting), first just start doing the movements with NO weights, when that feels comfortable you can switch to soup cans, then 1 pound weights, 2 pounds etc. I think being VERY gradual, and very consistent is the key. I concentrated on more of a lower body toning routine while my upper body was healing and actually lost a pant size (without losing any weight), so that was a silver lining for me.

For me it took several YEARS for the 'zinginess' to go away completely. Even now if I overdo it, I get achy. Sigh.......I very much like to walk but am more of a class person. I like the socialization part and the fact that someone else is telling me what to do, I don't have to figure it out for myself. One thing I did that helped me to stay accountable was to decide how much aerobic and how much toning I wanted to get each week & then entered the time in a notebook, dividing it into 15 minute increments (since you should be able to do almost anything for 15 minutes). I'd check off the time as I exercised to be sure to meet my goals. A fitbit or other fitness tracker is also good for that.

As for my exercise today, I've been running around town doing errands. I may go to Barre Sculpt at 4:30. I signed my dog up for Obedience School so will have to skip my evening Thursday night Zumba classes for the next 8 weeks!
