Wonder - I stopped making a "to do" list years ago as often it was too lofty - I know in my mind what I want to do - sometimes I'll write just a couple things done to get done.

The heat is on - mid to high 90s for the next several days

If I didn't have a "to do" list, I wouldn't get anything done ever! Loopy I still log my exercise in a notebook every day, as well as reporting in here, so I am very much a 'write it down and check it off' person.

Yesterday I went for a walk with DH & DD (dear dog) and did MORE yard work. I'm going to Pound in a few minutes. It's our wedding anniversary so we are going to check out a new restaurant on the lake later today. It will be in the 80s for the next few days here, perfect summer weather!

Happy Anniversary Ruth!!! The restaurant on the lake sounds like a fantastic way to celebrate.

Karen: Your heat is coming our way.

Dd (in this case, daughter, not dog like Ruth's dd) and I had a fun day together. Started with donuts and coffee. Then a trip to the Farmer's Market. Ate lunch at our favorite drive-in. Went into Winston Salem to go to a craft store and Costco. She has a membership there. I find it overwhelming with so much! How can there be world hunger with all the food available in just this one store!?!

Walked/ran in the late evening. Not looking forward to the heat that will be here this week.

100F yesterday and 98F today and tomorrow!!! Way too hot for my blood anytime.

August 1st both DH and I will be fully on medicare. My pcp only takes a few Advantage plans and does not take regular medicare. So I'm going with the advantage plan through the state retirement system. DH is going with a regular medigap plan. I didn't know this but if you don't initially go with regular medicare/medigap within 6 months of signing up, you could be turned down due to pre-existing conditions. I don't want to look for a new pcp - The plans offered by the state retirement system are the same with different out of pocket and copays.

    Happy anniversary Ruth

I guess I have sort of a "to do" list but it is more generic. I used to make my list too long and never get much checked off. I'll write it in the morning. Wonder and Ruth - you are right, if you don't write something down, even one or two things, the day goes by and nothing is accomplished.

Need to walk shortly before it gets too hot.

    Have a great Sunday

I also went to the farmers market yesterday. Got a host of spring veggies here including a spinach type vegetable that is delicious, salad, greenhouse tomatoes that tasted like field-grown, and wild rice harvested by a small outfit from the south end of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Then I went and got some yak tenderloin to have with it. Just yum! The wild rice was not cheap, but anyone who would go through the process of manually harvesting and then drying and removing the chaff is someone whom I want to support!

There was a man selling onions and blessing his vegetables and all the purchasers. I must say that the onions are that good!

Still very much spring here with cool temps with the next couple of days being in the low 60s.

My dining table is now set up and the pictures rearranged. The whole living/dining space looks just fabulous. Packing went to the dump and old table to Goodwill who were thrilled to get it. It's amazing how a table of slightly different proportions can totally transform a space; everything looks perfectly integrated and flows properly. Being about 8" narrower meant that I could move my sofa back a few inches and nothing looked crowded anymore.

I am trying to figure out where to cycle today. Think over to Post Falls Dam and back which will give me my 60 miles for the week. A lot of the route goes through nice residential where the people spend good money on their gardens, and it's nice to see all the flowers and blooming plants. I think I will make a pork loin roast tonight as just delicious and will use up some of my fresh herbs. I am getting a bumper crop with all the rain.

More later. Happy Sunday everyone! - Claire

Claire - dining table is great. Would love to see pictures of the whole space. Sounds like you are having a great summer exploring the new hood and surrounding areas.

forecast 98 or 99F with potential again to break 100. Yesterday was. hot but only mid 90s - cloudy most of the day.

worked in the closet that goes under the stairs (we live in a one story with a basement). I haven't been in there for several years. I had a plastic bag than a comforter came in filled with old wool blankets - some 65 years old - took bag outside to wipe off all the dust - and on the top blanket were little white "worms" - and you could see that parts of the blanket had been "eaten). I didn't even bother looking at any other blankets - just threw them all out. KInd of bummed me - but to be. hones, I forgot they were there. Would have preferred to donate them, but not possible. One blanket is in all the infant pictures of me.

spent more time working in that closet and still lots more to do - we put stuff in there many years ago - some old work stuff from my husband that will all go in the garbage. An old Smith Corona manual type writer from the 1970s. Lots of kids stuff and lots of papers that are all garbage as they are so old. We used to use the closet but once my son put his box spring in there a few years ago, we didn't go in. I went in there to put books that my son didn't want to take with him and decided it was a good time to clean it out!!!

    Have a great Tuesday.

Very productive, Karen. I think 'stuff' actually breeds in closets!

I went to yoga yesterday & am off to Dance2fit in a few minutes. We are in a thunderstorm alert for today & tomorrow. Nice Wednesday & then the temperatures go up, up, up. Must be summer!

I have the electric fireplace going, and it's not for show either. Just drilled holes in the two planters that didn't come with drain holes so that my geraniums don't drown. This should give you an idea of the main living areas of my digs. I still need to think through my office, but at least the dining table is out of here now and assembled! - Claire

View towards the sitting room area, a combination of slightly formal and very comfortable. I think you need a bit of red in a northern climate to warm things up on this wet Junuary day with temps in the 40s.

    image

Looking across in the opposite direction. Colors and proportions came out perfectly. Dining chairs are super comfortable and tie the room to the 18th Century artwork on the opposite wall and 19th Century porcelain in the cabinet. I love the fact that the floor can be mopped after dealing with off-white carpet the past 15 years.

    image

Looking towards the kitchen. Note the large pantry in the corner. Lots of room for everything. Laundry is to the left of the fridge with even more storage. Cookbooks are in the bottom of the bookcase. Left bottom is a German History of Art from about 1905. Many of the illustrations are of artwork that no longer exists or was lost during the two World Wars. Of course, the bag at the left top of the island is a cycling bag that needs putting away.

Karen: I agree with Ruth. Closet stuff tends to multiple! Also in garages, at least in mine it does. Yard work stuff, bird feeder stuff, stuff, stuff, stuff. Argh!

Claire: Really like your new apartment! How nice that you have a fire place. That's a sweet kitchen - and it has a pantry!

I haven't been exercising regularly. The heat and humidity (97, 98 degrees) arrived on Monday and has not let up. We are supposed to have a break this weekend. I'm meeting a friend to go hiking on Saturday and I'm thankful for the predicted heat break.

I have been painting some. I found these cute wooden cutouts for 70% off and couldn't resist. The 2 flowers are 6 inches. The top one is for the Girl Scout I mentioned who organized a gay pride parade for her Gold Award project. The second one is for a friend who has been diagnosed with bc for a 2nd time 10 years after the first diagnosis. 10 years ago she had a lump. and radiation. This time it's a mx (in the other breast), chemo, and radiation. She's 74 and I've been calling her every couple of weeks to see how she's managing. The summer cutout is just something fun for the deck. Salem the cat kept swishing it with his tail when I was taking the picture lol.

    Love all of those, Wonderland!

It was North Dakota's primary election today & I spent the whole day (6:30am-7:00pm) working at the polls. It was very interesting & informative, but not much exercise (unless you count getting up to get coffee, water, pop, and cookies).

Wonder - the cut outs are cute

The thing with the blankets were little "meale" works or something similar - sure wasn't going to open the bag and touch them to see if any were still good!!! I don't remember all the blankets that were in the bag, but they were all wool. Some were over 60 years old. They were white and maybe an inch and thin. They were in one of those zippered bags that bedding comes in. Even seeing the bag in the trashed gave me the heebie, jeebies!! I really haven't been in the under the stairs closet for over 5 or 6 years - it's off my son's old bedroom and when he was here, I tended not to go in there. Today I started on the file cabinet - found papers from 1977!!!!! Talk about out of sight out of mind. I opened the middle 2 drawers (4 drawers) and they are full!!! Kid stuff, articles and who knows what. Also two boxes of school work I saved from my kids - and tossing most of it. Anything sentimental, I'm putting aside for another time - letters, birthday cards etc.

Ruth - my late mother used to work the polls. Here, mail in ballots are the main way to vote.

    Sweet dreams

Ruth: Your WWW picture looks refreshing with the clear blue sky and water. And everyone is wearing long sleeves!

Hot is the word. I got up early and walked/ran this morning before it was miserable. Need to get in as much activity I can tolerate in the heat before Monday bc I'm having one of my wisdom teeth removed then. Ugh!

Pound this morning, Barre Sculpt in the afternoon, Book Club tonight. A nice but very windy day. I have a garbage can full of branches I picked up from the yard.

The heat is on - walked early this morning and then at 8pm tonight. Also treated myself to a mani/pedi and it is around the corner - 9 minute walk so I walked there.

Spent several hours in the under the stairs closet - the file cabinet is done as is the bookshelf - now I just have to go through the stuff I put aside - or not and just put it in a plastic box - its mostly sentimental stuff like cards, photos, letters etc. Tossed the kids report cards going back to the early 90s, most of the work I saved and tossed lots of articles etc that were in the file cabinet and 2 milk crates. A lot of the articles and journals were from grad school which I finished in 1990!!! Now just have to wait for overflow trash pick up in 2 weeks.

Found a few gems among all the "stuff" - a leather purse and satchel that is some name brand that DH is going to sell on eBay - also two Dooney and Burke purses that are brand new that my brother sent to the late mother. They have been sitting in a closet for 4 1/2 years.

Wonder - good luck with the wisdom teeth removal. My two younger kids had theirs out - but I don't remember when my son had his taken out. My oldest daughter never got wisdom teeth. DH had his taken out in college and I still have 3 of 4 of mine.

Supposed to be at least 95 tomorrow - heat warning. Will walk by 8 and again as the sun goes down.

    Sweet dreams.

Hello all! Have not been on in quite a while. Seems like the "bugs" on the site have been resolved. Just back from a lovely vacation on the Chesapeake Bay - private beach a short walk away, quiet & serene location. NY City kids (daughter & wife) took the train to Baltimore and were able to join us. Wonderful food, drinks and weather was great. Wish I knew how to kayak, as 2 kayaks were available for use.

Returned to very hot weather here in greater Cinci and some bad storms blew through. Power outages for 3 days experienced by some, but we were ok.

Claire - great place you have there!

Ruth - Sounds like you had a great sendoff your dear uncle! Happy memories to see you through the grief process.

Wonderland - Good luck w/wisdom teeth removal!

Jumping back on the exercise train - took gear with me, but did not exercise after all. It is tough getting back into it after 9 days "off".

Everyone in the heat - stay cool and stay hydrated!

celiac: Good to see you again! Your trip to the Chesapeake Bay sounds delightful.

Karen: Your closet cleaning is coming along. Hope you find more gems!

Ruth: Picking up branches is definitely exercise.

Push mowed today for 80 minutes. I split the time up into 40 minutes, rest, and another 40 minutes. Dh did the same with his mowing time. We are down to one mower bc the 2nd one is broken and dh hasn't taken it to be repaired. I'm ready to get rid of it and get a new one.

Weather has been miserable, today included. But, a storm blew through this evening and the weekend will be cooler with low humidity and dewpoint! I'm meeting a friend tomorrow to go hiking and I'm very happy about the weather.

I walked & did some toning at home yesterday and am off to Yoga Strength in a few minutes. The next few days sound brutal in the weather department (what many of you deal with all summer long). I will close up the house & turn on the air conditioning when I get home from class. A lady I know operates a small green house in the spring & early summer. She is closing down now & brought me 5 flats of FREE leftover flowers! I have the not bad problem of figuring out what to do with them. I either am going to buy some planters the fit over a deck railing (for my back deck if DH ever gets done sanding & staining it) or get some shepherds hooks put hanging baskets by the fence in the backyard (anything on the ground will get trampled and/or dug up by dogs). I don't dare plant them until it cools down a little so will probably drag all the flowers into the basement for the next couple days.

I have been off the board for a while. Both my husband and I had Covid and we have been recovering for the pasts few weeks. He got sick first and was put in the hospital after three days to get hydrated and the monoclonal antibodies. That treatment really helped him as he was ailing fast. It was an eye-opener for us because he is so healthy, active, fit and is never sick. I am slowly getting better but I have more fatigue and shortness of breath compared to DH. I did not receive any treatment because when I consulted my doctor over the telephone she did not feel I needed anything other than over the counter meds. Like Ginger I worry about this dragging out into a longer recovery but I am trying to stay active when I feel like it and I am getting some walks and bike rides in so that really lifts my spirits. I am not as healthy as my husband so I have to try harder! I have been a diabetic for over 45 years so exercise and healthy eating are my lifelines.

I hope everyone stays healthy and is able to work around the heat.

coffeelatte: I am so sorry you and your dh got covid! May you both continue to recover and regain your strength and endurance back. Heart

Ruth: Planters and/or shepherd hooks are a good solution for your new flowers.

Hiked 6 miles today with a good friend. I haven't seen her since April last year and we had a lot to catch up on. The trail went through corn fields, woods, small mountains, open fields, and ended in a long peaceful cascade. It was a beautiful day with low humidity and dewpoint. The trail is maintained by a hiking group in the town which is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They use unique markers for the trail such as the bear in the picture.

Not as much walking today as I have been getting - just over 12K.

Back in the under the stairs closet going through the stuff I'm keeping. Lots of photo envelopes - turns out most are just the negatives or pictures that didn't get put into a photo album because too dark. Found a photo of me and my mother from 1993 that I want to frame - great picture. Still some more to go through and then bring up the books to give away and the trash bags to throw out. When that is done, I will tackle my "office/spare bedroom" which mostly needs organizing and things put away - too many things on the futon and I want to put a quilt that my late MIL had in her guest bedroom.

Tomorrow I have my annual check up with my PCP. Copied all my labs (I think 5) since I saw her last June. Don't need to repeat CMP (I've had 3) or TSH that I had last month. The other two are kidney panels. I need to see if she wants to take over or have me still see nephrologist annually. Nephrologist gave me the choice last August and I told him I would ask my PCP.

DH grilled chicken wings for dinner. Yummy.

Wonder - your hike sounds wonderful. Love the bear marker

Coffeelatte - sorry to hear about Covid. Hope you and your DH are well soon.

Coffee, so sorry to hear about your & DH's Covid scare. Glad that you are both on the mend. When I had Covid (early on, before they really had any effective treatments or vaccinations), I wasn't sick enough to land up in the hospital, but it took me a long time to feel 'normal'. I would feel like I hit a wall & had to just quit whatever I was doing, I could NOT push through! It's good that you are walking and getting out.

Wonderland, it looks like a lovely hike.

Good luck with your checkup today, Karen.

Yesterday it was so hot and miserable (heat index was 107), that I did no aerobic exercise at all. I went to yoga where the teacher led us in a very gentle, no heat building, workout. Today is supposed to be hot & stormy after which the our temperatures & humidity will go back to normal. I bought the shepherds hooks & planters so am itching to get the flowers in! I am going to Dance2fit this morning & Pound later this afternoon......weather or not!

A quick update from me. I’m muddling through the post treatment effects of TC treatment number 3. My activity since then is almost zero. I got really grumpy before the treatment date knowing that my feeling of energy and strength was about to be torpedoed again. I’d been wearing my Apple Watch agin and hitting move goals just running errands and hanging out with my daughter. I made some of my block of the month quilt blocks and cooked a meal, or two. This weekend was just yucky. Mostly just fatigue. Also a sore tongue, and foods don’t taste good. Had very low grade fever yesterday, but that seems resolved today. I was able to read some good books, so it sure could have been worse. Yesterday I felt well enough to do a little hand appliqué while I watched Brokenwood Mysteries.

I have one last chemo cycle starting on July 6. I don’t plan to ring any bells. The chemo itself is pretty manageable. It’s the after effects that get me. I simply won’t feel done with anything just because they take out a needle.I go for my RO consult on 7/8. Expected date to start rads is 7/25. I need to think of a quick vacation the week prior. Somewhere less hot than here for sure!

I enjoy keeping up with all of you who are living your best post treatment lives. I’m looking forward to that sort of normalcy soon.

Wonderland, I love your cut out paintings. Really striking!

sarahmaude, compared to chemo, I found radiation a piece of cake I actually found my energy returning during it. Hopefully it will be the same for you. Yes, take a little vacation between. Somewhere cool (if you can find anyplace in the country that is cool!)

Sarahmaude - good luck with your last chemo. As with Ruth, radiation was much easier for me than chemo. Remind me where you live. Maybe the NW - everywhere seems to be hot!! The Colorado mountains don't get quite as hot as Denver. Usually 10 F degrees cooler.

Pretty much done with the under the stairs closet - I have 5 large/lawn and leaf size bags ready for the trash. Psychology books to go to Goodwill or will post on a School Psych page on fb to see if any newbies are interested in ancient books!!! Someone told me to keep an old test for sentimental value - not doing!!! In the hall by the two bedrooms in the basement is an old, sort of broken dresser that I need to see what is lurking in there to throw out of give away. I have 1 box of kid stuff - school work over the years, 2 small plastic containers with lids with keepsakes - card and baby stuff plus the baby toys which I won't give away without the girls permission. I don't think my son cares. One year, my DH and I gave each other the same anniversary card - found it today - I have save many anniversary and birthday cards. The most special birthday cards are the ones the kids made when they were little.

All good at my annual check up. I see the NP (my PCP retired a few years ago and I don't know my new PCP, but I really like the NP and have known her for years). She will follow my kidney status. I mentioned that nephrologist did a kidney panel and she said that is just a shorter version on the CMP - my oncologist does a CMP and CBC at each visit so I will share results with her. No cholesterol this year - she said numbers were good last year so skip a year. Labs drawn for Vitamin D level and parathyroid since calcium is slightly elevated. Due for colonoscopy in August and DEXA in a year. I can't schedule colonoscopy till August as my insurance changes August 1st. NP thinks I need a referral with new insurance. With current insurance I don't. I think she spent 45 minutes with me!!! Now I need to email nephrologist and update him and cancel my appointment for August.

Good Tuesday morning - great 45 minute walk - it's still very pleasant out only low 60s. High is only supposed to be 82 so I'll get a couple more walks in today. Will go around lunch time. Going to go some weeding in the front yard, then try to organize all the give aways. DH is working with the president of his company today, so I won't see him till after dinner. Long day for him.

    Have a great Tuesday.
