Hey Sheila ~ This was one of those days where one feels so blessed. My DD (the one 7 hours away) & her little ones were within sight of their home when a stupid neighbor pulled out of his driveway right into her car. He was driving fast out of his own driveway & never looked, just hit my DD broadside. Thank God they were not hurt, smashed in both doors, blew out the back tire & spun her right around. Now they have to look for a new car, & in these times do not have a ton of money to spend on one. She is so upset, & I wish I could be there to give her a big hug & tell her I am so happy my grandchildren & she are okay. (this is in the country with long driveways - she has (had) a Chevy Blazer, he a BIG truck. only hurt his big bumper)
Things happen in a split second. My granddaughter is in pre-school & she was happily talking about her morning & what was mommy going to fix her & her brother for lunch, & then BOOM! Just like that! I am so mad at that stupid neighbor, he admitted he never looked to his left, what an idiot. He almost changed so many lives in an instant.....My DD & I have decided we are going to egg his house & tee-pee his trees! Just kidding, but it would be soooo much fun!!! (&, no, I have never done that!)
I can breathe again....

Oh Valerie. How awful! Thank God she was driving a Blazer. If that had been a sedan, I shudder. Glad everyone is OK.

hi ladies, i was wondering if anyone is in a similar situation. i started off original dx with DCIS grade 3 multifocil BMX on Sept3 final pathology showed Grade three multifocil microinvasions and a 2.5mm tumor that is HER2neu +3 and grade three 40% ER/PR anyway i jsut turned 30 so im confussing to my oncologists and ive seen a few one at a major cancer institute. they are recommending a year of herceptin and four doses of light chemo with taxol and something else but i cant remember the name anyone go this route for such a small IDC? i have an 8 month old baby and i feel like ill through anything at this at this point i just want it gone! and im hoping to eventually have another baby lots of wondering and worrying about what lies ahead any insight would be great!! also what exactly does HER2 +3 mean? thanks ladies!

Hi Jennifer...i cant really give you much info except i was HER+ and given Herceptin for one year weekly. I also had 4X Taxol and 4X A/C chemo.
Someone with similar situation as yours can give you more insides.

jpmercy, I cannot speak from first-hand experience either, but your cancer was aggressive (Grade 3) and you are very lucky to have caught it so small. With Grade 3, your young age, and because the tumor did not have a high receptivity for ER/PR, but did have HER2+, it means that chemo is what will harm the cancer cells most and is your best weapon to fight it with. (I really don't know what the (+3) stands for in regard to the HER2, maybe it indicates the degree to which your tumor growth is stimulated by the HER2 protein.)
Getting B/C while trying to plan a family is horrible, but the fact is that it never comes at a good time. There is no good timing as far as B/C goes. Why not have a talk with the doctor about the length of treatment, and what kind of timeline you would have as far as trying for another baby? That way you can have a realistic picture, and then you want to do the best treatments that will give you the best chance to be around a long, long, time with your kids and grandkids.

i know having found this early and knowing how aggressive it was it what is making me feel thankful and not so upset about the upcoming treatments, Seyla your 4x chemo sounds simlar and the herceptin what were your side effects did you loose all your hair with the 4x chemo? and any problems iwth herceptin?

Jennifer...first the good news if you are getting Herceptin its like a maintenance drug.
I had absolutely no SE and doesn't effect the hair.
The other chemos yes you loose your hair. Some of us got more SE than others.
Its not very pleasant but doable. Taxol was easier for me. Light SE like indigestion.
We are here for you.
I have a daughter who just turned 30 in August.

edited to add: Thank you for your concern re: my DD & grandkids. They are doing well, still a little shook up. The insurance adjuster could not believe the damage done to the car by someone just pulling out of their driveway. She knew he was going way too fast. The car is totaled.

Sheila ~ My DD, Lacie, is still upset because little Jackson, 2 yrs, was on the side that was hit & he was really crying & that, of course, started 3 1/2 yr old Mackenzie to cry, also, which in turn turned on the waterworks for Mommy. She is mad at the neighbor guy & so scared that something worse could have happened.
Sure brings us back down to earth so quickly when something like that happens. My DH called her when he got home from work & she was emotional on the phone he said.
I know they will be saying special prayers of thanks when they go to Church this Sunday.

Jpmercy - I had similar dx...HER2+++ basically means your are HER2 positive and Herceptin is THE drug of choice in treating HER2+ cancers. Herceptin was only approved in 2004/2005 for early stage I and II BC girls but it was only approved on the condition that is given in conjunction with some form of Chemo (Herceptin is a targeted maintenance drug that only affects the HER2+ genes, unlike chemo with go after anything cells that have a high active/rapidly dividing cells. That is why on so many of these chemos we loose our hair, our skin is so dry and we can have mouth and tummy issues.) HER2+ BC is a very aggressive and unpredictable cancer, but with Herceptin our prognosis is much improved.

Ok ladies here is the update on yesterdays appointments:
BS did a very through exam, does not think there is scar tissue adhesion or nerve impingement. BS thinks that my nerves are sending mixed signals (ie phantom pains/sensations), just like when some one has lost a limb, so she has referred me to a pain management specialist. The most common treatment is nerve blockers to help calm the over active nerves and hopefully stop the misfiring.
LE specialist was at first a total bummer, they are out of network and would cost $$$$$ for the LE pump my doc's are recommending.
I was so disappointed yesterday but this morning I got a call from the LE specialist and they are thinking that because the pump is a very specialized unit and they are one of only a few providers, they may be able to be a in-interwork rate approval, translated, no out of pocket cost to me 
My PS was a waist of time, he tried to convince me again to go for the nipple recon - must be a man thing. of course he is very proud of his work (they are very nice). I did get to ask about the scars and apparently my scars as good as they are going to get (they are not bad, but do pull a little on the R side).
So that is it in a nut shull - thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes. I should now in 4-6 weeks about the LE pump so I'll keep ya'll in the loop.

dr called today.6 nodes removed.6 nodes were negative.
