That's the one I had the first 2 times. IS it the one you are on your tummy and your tatas hanging from the hole and squeezed?

The last one was US guided core needle. I didn't like it very much because we already knew the results the I had been rushed to the biopsy.

Yes, that is what it is.  You hear the vacuum sucking, ewww.  I was left with a eggplant colored breast by the next day.

Char2010 ~ I'll think of you Tues on your mamm day, as I have one that day as well. It will be my 2-yr mark one. They checked the "yearly screening" box on the write-up paper, not diagnostic. The ones I've had up to now were diagnostic; didn't realize until after I called the Hospital to pre-register that it was that way. I can never find out the results fairly soon after anyway (like the same day); my hospital doesn't do that. BarbaraA, you are soooo lucky your hospital will do it. I HATE waiting for a letter in the mail or a call from my onc's nurse if I call & request it.

JMW ~ I am so glad to hear you won't be having 16 weeks of rads! Laughing I did wonder about that. I just figured it was because you were in BC, not here in the States.

raincitygirl ~ Love your new avatar! The top/blouse you have on looks lovely, very colorful & the area you're standing in looks like a wonderful place to sit & read.  (Edited to change "see" to "sit". Embarassed

Sheila ~ The pic you have up top is lovely & I really liked the sunset pic before that.

    Hi Joni!

Valjean - Thank you - it is a beautiful place, a small beach on Lake Washington looking toward Seattle, about a 1/2 mile from my home.  I walk there with a friend and that day we talked about the possibility of hair loss, so she got a picture for me - I happened to have that top in my car for meeting up with my husband post-walk.  I can never make the avatar's large enough to actually see people, am I missing an opportunity?

Yes, Sheila, that's the picture. It really is one of the most beautiful sunset pictures I've seen. I 'saved' it, hope you don't mind!

My DD & hubby came over today & my husband put new brakes on their vehicles all-around & while the men were busy with "men-stuff, my DD & I planned Thanksgiving dinner. I DON'T have to cook this year, YAY! Others in her family will contribute, & I only will make a fluffy Cool Whip/strawberry salad. I will, of course, go down the day before to help her prep the turkey since she is only 2 miles down the road from me.

I have much to be thankful for this year, & one thing is the improving health of your son, Meecie. How is he doing?

Eph3_12 and Raincitygirl - If I didn't know it then, then I know it now from your stories. You have to have a sense of humor to get through this deal. Thanks. :)

Seyla - Yes, only a couple more days!  :)

WOW, I go away for a weekend and have to read 6 pages of goings-on! Missed everyone, welcome to the newbies!(((CHAR))) good luck on the mammo (had mine about 3 wks ago), GD, so glad the GS is home and coming around. He is very blessed. {{{VAL}}} congrats on 3 years!. (((MEECE))) hugs for you. I hope this week is way better than last week.

Went to Miami to visit a girlfriend and met up with Marybe and 3jaysmom in Weston. We had a cheese tray and bruschetta at this cool wine tasting place. You put money on a card, then pick a wine (they have hundreds) and then decide if you want a taste, 1/2 glass or whole one. I was tasting my brains out! Great fun!

Here's to a better week for all!

Hi seyla888, I am travelling because the closest city where I can get my rad treatment is a 2 hr. drive. To get there I have to drive through a mountain pass. Weather can get pretty nasty up there in the winter months and sometimes they have to close the highway. The  dr. doesn't want to take any chances that I might miss some of my treatments. Wow, all the replies I have received about when to tell my sons about my cancer kind of surprised me! Certainly has me re-thinking. Someone on here mentioned (sorry, can't remember the name, it was on another thread) that before Xmas would be a better time to tell them with a great distraction like Xmas coming. I think maybe I agree with that. Just have to think about it a little more. Thanks ladies.

Hi onestep, my sons are 13 and 9 years old.

Hi everyone!  Wow... I miss a few days and like Barbara there are pages and pages to read and soooo many newbies.  I apologize but I am terrible with names.  It takes me forever to remember them and not getting to be on here everyday it makes it even harder.  Grannydukes I am glad you aren't changing your name, it suits you.  But I must agree that I don't like the fact that someone could google our name and pull up everything about us.  One positive is that if no one knows your screen name they can't find you, and why would they be looking anyway?   Wink  At least I hope no one would be googling my screen name.  That would make me really sad to think someone just wanted to find out info about us.

Have a great week... and by the way I decided to change my Rad Onco appt that was scheduled for tomorrow.  I haven't had my mammogram yet, so no results to give him.  I've rescheduled it for Dec. 6th, but to be honest I really don't want to go see him at all!  I've been trying to reason out why I need to see a Rad Onco, Med Onco and Breast Surgeon.  I am seeing 2 of the docs on the same month and the other on the 3 month interval in between.  Now, if I keep my appt for Dec. I will be seeing one doc in Nov, one in Dec, and one in March, then it will start over.  They will continue to be staggered.  Please tell me why I need my breasts checked and lab work done that much?  It's crazy!!!! But how do you fire a doctor without making him mad?  It's only been since Feb since I completed Rads, but honestly I have seen a doctor almost every 2 months if you add going to the plastic surgeon in with the rest.  I don't see the need to have so many flipping doctors.

It is so each of them can continue to acquire a piece of the pie?  I have been told that I will be only seeing the medical oncologist once all the other stuff is done.  I don't see the BS anymore as I had two rechecks after surgery.

Renee...Radiation Onco has to go first.

I think your Oncologist should follow you.

I also see my BS once a year because i like talking to him. He explains everything.

    Nice to see you sister/friend

Mimi - I work from home and there are a few people in my work world who know my screen name because sometimes when we collaborate on a piece we use it.  I haven't told anyone of those people  - I will just have to deal with it and be careful :)

Oh... o.k. raincitygirl!  I understand now.  It's kinda like I usually use a certain screen name for everything, but on here I chose mimi1964.  Everyone that is in my close family knows that I use a certain name for everything.  I can also understand why you want to keep it private, some people do while others don't mind talking and telling their co-workers.  It is a very personal choice to tell or not to tell others.  I hope it all works out for you :=)

I will just have to hope for it - when you work as I do, any hint that you are not up for a challenge can be damaging....they just don't know me....I am always ready for a challenge.

When rads were done the onc said give us a call if you have any problems.  My BS wants me ti see him several more times and increasing intervals, the next in Jan--him I'll gladly go to whenever he wants me to.  Love him.  Just hope he dosn't retire for a while.  He is somewhere in his seventies-- at least and one of the best in the state.  The med onc I don't dislike but I don't like him either.  Oh well, we do what we got to do.  It is not that I have any doubts about his ability.  He just has no "bed side manner."  But all the other docs in my life just now, from my personal doc on, just ooze concern and caring.  They love what they do and they love their patients.

Renee ~ How crazy is this?: You had your Rads onc appt scheduled for tomorrow, the same day I get my mamm. (I see my Rads onc next week, Tues.) You rescheduled it for Dec 6 & that is the same day I see my reg. Onc. Then I begin an every 6-month schedule with her. YAY!

I'm thinking you may have one more appt with your Rads onc, the one year mark one. I saw mine: 1 month post rads, 6-month check after that & we extended the one year mark appt by 2 months so he could view my mamm from Oct/Nov (whenever I got it), which is the appointment I'll have next week. I was surprised the Rads onc wanted to see me for that 1-year appt but I think they like to view our mamm & check the skin on the radiated breast. I didn't have any post side effects from the radiation but I have heard some gals do & the dr. probably just wants to be sure there are not any more lingering ones. Just a thought....

I saw my BS: 6-months post surgery, then again at the 6-month mark. I did happen to see him a couple more times because I had a surgical biopsy on the other breast but nothing for the bc breast.

My reg Onc is the only one I have bloodwork done for. Starting next year, the reg Onc should be the only Dr I see, other than my yearly ob-gyn pap.

What you think? I do understand your frustration, it does seem like they just want to look at the boob, look at our file & then charge the insurance company &/or us. Yell (glad someone is making some $$$$$) Wink

Welcome Gloria ~ I'm so happy you have found us, though sorry that it has to be. Liking your doctors is the first step.

I am sure you will find much comfort here, the ladies are AMAZING. Ask anything at any time, someone has gone through it or someone will be along later in the day that has.

As you can see by my signature, I've also had Rads. If you have any Q's, just ask. It really wasn't bad for me at all.

Others will be along shortly, I'm off to get my 2-year mark Mamm. OUCH! Frown

By the way, I think you can only post 5 (?-help ladies!) times a day until you reach 50 total & then it is unlimited. (I'll check & if I'm wrong I'll come back & correct it) You can always PM someone & there is no limit. Just click on the person's avatar (their face or whatever they have) & that will take you to their page, up on the top right you will find where you can send them a private message.

mimi 1964 I will start my rads in about a week or so but my BS told me that I do not need to see all three docs all the time.  She said I can pick one to follow up with as long as the other two get all the reports or she said if I want to rotate every three months then they will all see me at least once a year.  Will decide after I get through with my rads how I want to follow up with everyone.

Twilah welcome to the thread although sorry you have to been here as well.  It is a great place to get support and information.

I went yesterday to my med onc and got the results of my bloodwork and PET Scan all was good, scan was clean of cancer but I have a kidney stone so I guess I'll have to deal with that at some point.  Will go for my rads similatio and markup today so I will get started soon.  Just wish all this was not going on during the Holidays.  It is such a busy time of year and to add rads everyday and I have to drive 50 minutes just to get there.  Oh well this too shall pass.

Welcome Gloria, and any other newbies I haven't said howdy to yet.

I remember that first appointment at rads.  Getting the tattoos.  I really startled people when I mentioned that I had six tattoos.  I tell them I have butterflies, hearts, bunnies, etc... but they are very, very tiny.  I actually can only see three anymore.  surgery took care of a couple and the other just faded.
