I love dropping in here - it's a safe harbor in the storm and always get a peaceful feeling from the posts and the pictures!!
Val - I can so relate to your worries. Just went today with my daugher for her BRCA test. It will be a long two week wait. Here's praying that our generation will live to see breakthrough treatments & a cure to breast cancer so NO daughters ever in the future have to fear this disease!

I believe I understand how you feel. My DD will have a mam soon after she turns 35 due to family history, My mom, RIP, and me. She has large dense breasts, so I am hoping her doctor will take that into consideration.
Is there a different type of mammogram for dense breasts?
0 -
She turns 35 December 29th.

Deborye - love your santa & snowman! Tell her to ask about an MRI instead of a mammo -- no radiation and is better screening for those with dense breasts. With family history and considerd "high risk", she should also not get insurance push back to cover costs

Insurance will cover the cost of her mammogram, her co pay for MRI will be $75.

I am overwhelmed by the love & prayers from everyone.
Your strength really is helping me keep it together & to remain positive.
I'm trying......I'm really trying.
Meecie ~ Thank you for the prayer. I sat & stared at the picture, the bird flying so free & the water so peaceful. Love it. My DD was told by the MRI office that if she didn't take that 8:00 a.m. appt, she would have to wait a couple of weeks; busy place! She didn't want to wait & I'm glad she didn't.
And then the next pic is of 2 penguins ~ nice & toasty warm celebrating the season. Very cute, Jo.
deborye~ Thanks for including your avatar in the postings, I was trying to look at it closely the other day for the detail. It's really cute! My DD#2, age 31, is going to ask at her next ob-gyn appt (she will be 32 by then) if she can have a mamm before the age of 35 due to family history=me. She said if her sister does indeed have more than LCIS, she will really push for it. Keeping good thoughts for your DD. Doesn't one have to have more than one close relative to have it be considered "family history"? But, my Mother did have ovarian cancer, which was found after she had uterine cancer after they removed a grapefruit sized fibroid tumor. She passed away just short of her 45th b-day, & had not seen an ob-gyn since my brother was born 11 months after me. (Fun fact: I was born in Jan & him in Dec of the same year! )
Janet ~ I will keep good thoughts for your DD's BRCA to be negative.
Hi Sheila & Barbara! ♥
Hugs ♥

Today I was shopping then i heard from the microphone "the next 4 minutes we are giving free paring knives' I needed one so long and yesterday I bought one.......
So i go to the location bunch of other people we all are waiting for our knives. The person comes and says i have to do a short demonstration after that its yours.
Back to last month where many of us were complaining about memory problems and not remembering words right....so anyway the guy is holding this yellow weird looking gadget and asked the first person could identify this get this price.
I raised my hand but you think i can remember the word finally i said to him "You put it in an orange and he says to me and,,,,,, I answered you twist it and it pours out from the opening.
You are the winner he says. So embarrassing like a 2 year old they know what it is but not the real name.
So this was my day and i was thinking of you ladies with memory problems.
I got my paring knife

Way to go, Sheila, on getting that paring knife!
Hi Nancy ~ Welcome! I know when I had Rads & was nearing the end, I was burning more & they really kept a close eye on it. I was glad they didn't stop the tx.
Hope this posts as the page is taking forever to load. I don't even have the strip across the top with the Bold/Italics/Spell Check/etc. yet. Sheila's Christmas tree is coming in way over to the right side so my page is very wide. It's not in the box above where it used to be above the Merry Christmas sign. I wonder what is going on. This happened last night, too. Strange....0 -

Good morning everyone!
Greetings from the snowy north country. 21.5 inches of snow yesterday and now it's subzero. Can TEs freeze???
Welcome, Nancy. Glad to hear from you.
Valjean-Prayers for you and your DD.
Seyla-love the artwork. Glad you got the paring knife.

WOW! Here I am whining about how cold it is here in FL and catbill has 22" of snow! Sorry but it is STILL freezing here.
0 -
BarbaraA - I shouldn't whine either after seeing what catbill is going through. I am in deep south Texas and it is cold for us. The north wind makes it feel that way. Gonna stay in today as much as possible.

Chabba, you stick it into citrus fruit, then squeeze the fruit and the juice pours out the spout.
Last night DH and I went to Christmas party and neither of us wore our jackets when we went, and they still weren't really needed when we left at 9:00. I don't think it knows it is December here.

Yes Meece...I had them before when the kids were little. What is it called?
Since we are on the weather mother nature is dropping so much rain and wind.
I guess I had no choice but stay home.
Thanks catbill.
Good Morning All

Val - I am really sorry to hear about all the stress you and your DD are having to go through right here at the holiday season. Please know that I am am still praying for you and she both my friend. I may not be on here all the time but I think of you often. My job just really keeps me quite busy right now.
Sheila - I have been missing you at every turn and posting on here and FB. LOL! I hope you are doing well and staying warm sister friend. It is really cold here in the deep south for December. We are having our Jan/Feb weather in Dec. it's odd this the way it use to be in the "good old days" but I love winter and cold weather and all the change of the seasons.
I stopped taking my Tamoxifen yesterday since I am having surgery on Dec. 20th. The doctor didn't mention it to me, but all the research I have read said I really should so I did. I didn't figure it would do any harm and better to stop than get a blood clot ... Right? I will start taking it again after my surgery. What's ya'lls opinion....

Oh and there was a lady several posts back that asked about a drain her daughter had in for 3 wks and she had a lumpectomy and SNB, I had a partial mastectomy and 4 SNB's removed but no drain so I honestly don't have any idea, but I do know that fluid can collect in there and if it is taken out to soon and they can have to drain it with a needle and it can set up a potential for infection also the potential is there to cause lyphedema, so better to leave it till the fluid levels are practically none existent than to take it out too soon. My friend has a mastectomy and she had her drain in like someone else said almost 6 wks. It just depends on the individual person and your doctor. Hope your daughter gets better.

I have kind of a weird question. As a stage 1 person, supposedly the cancer I had has all been removed through surgery. The radiation and drug therapy is to make sure. However, it seems there is always some chance of a recurrence. My question: When I am talking about my cancer, should I say I have breast cancer, or I had breast cancer?? Any opinions? As I said, it's a weird thing to be concerned about in the bigger picture, but it just occurred to me, so I thought I would ask...0
-
susantm - Like Nancy said, that is a great question. When I am asked about it, I usually reply this way, "I was diagnosed in August with BC but now I am cancer free and plan on staying that way. If I get questioned looks, I go on by saying that surgery got all my cancer and the treatments I am undergoing are to make sure it is all gone.
It is 65 here today - supposed to get down to 36 tonight. That is really cold for deep south Texas.
