Meece-mine too!!! I was trying to decide last weekend...do I buy the D and have one spilling out a bit or by the DD and have one swimming in the cup???went for the D since I am losing weight and because I figure there will be more shrinkage...it has only been 7 months since surgery and 4 since rads so I am expecting more...if I have to , I will buy two different sizes and sew the damn things together! Now there is a plan
Jo/Annette-my dr's said the pain/tingly/occassional swelling could be up to a year so.....normal is when we no longer notice it I think.
mimi- so glad you are safe

mimi. i also, am so glad you're ok. we have our scares here with hurricanes every year; esp since Wilma, and of course we watch with much trepedation. we've had some good years, but it took a long time after andrew here. i know how devestating it is to look around, and know the destruction and loss of lives has been... 3jays

3jaysmom - We are also on the lookout each year for hurricanes. We have not had a bad one here but I do remember my reaction when Dolly took our roof off and I was sitting in the living room. Not doing that again. Never thought a Cat 1 could do so much damage.

It was me who asked about the boob changes during rads. Just finished week #3, and so far, they are still the same, although the rads side is definitely harder. They took a huge chunk out in surgery, so I have been worried how it will be in the end. The surgeon said I won't know until about a year whether the fluid will subside or not. ok I guess a reduction in my DD's won't be too bad?? Ugggh, another surgery...

Renee so glad you made it through the storms

SusanHG- good they took a big piece...me too (7cm,x 5cmx2cm! seriously)...but it means they had excellent margins so.....I was also told it will be a year before we really know...I was swollen initially so had no idea really...the operated on breast is higher with a nipple facing north instead of south....but I can live with that.....just waiting for my body to ;fill in the hole' and see what the results are....My surgeon and I discussed making me a c when this is all over....have not been a C in at least a decade so that would be interesting...and easier in the gym! one day at a time Susan!

Susan, I had 39 rads treatments and the changes in the my right breast didn't really start becoming noticable until towards the end of my treatments. I started out a D/DD and ended up with a very contracted and hard B cup on the right side, while the left remained a DD. I was very uneven. My plastic surgeon wouldn't do my breast reduction/lift until it had been almost a year. He wanted to make sure that all the shrinking had occurred and that the breast tissues were healed after radiation, also that the tissues were no longer "hot" from the radiation. I completed rads on Feb. 4th and had my reduction/lift/reconstruction on Dec. 29th. I am now a C cup on both sides. He was concerned that he would have to reduce to a B but luckily for me when he open up the tissue to do a lift on my right breast the contracting tissue expanded and he didn't have to go all the way down to a B on the left. My areola's are not the same size due to the rads severly shrinking the right one but it is not a major difference... I probably notice it more than anyone else. My med onco said my PS did an excellent job. I am very happy. I healed quickly and if I want to I can go without a bra in a shelf bra camisole. That is something I couldn't do since high school. As happy as I am with my reconstruction it was painful and I was off work for 2 full weeks and he only let me go back then because I had a desk job. I could not fill in if one of my nurses got sick and push anything heavy or do heavy lifting of more than 10 lbs for 6-8 weeks. Good Luck~!!

Sandee-I had two tissue specimens removed in my first surgery: 9x6.5x3 cm and 5.7x3.5x1.5 cm. I then had a re-excision with a little more taken (< 1 cm.) on two side. Man, i am in trouble :0 One day at a time, but c's would be nice. I would fit in all my old "before pregnancy and nursing" bras.
mimi: thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like you had a long road, but glad it worked out for you in the end.

Mimi/Susan- such a journey, hmm? My shoulder and sore and tense and swollen (was told my shoulders were around my ears today) and I took off my bra as soon as I got home because it was very painful,,,,seems related to bra wearing but if I only wear a camisole, I do not feel supported enough....frustrating

Hi Ladies, yesterday I found out I'm a stage 1b from my oncologist. So I guess this is the place to be.. I'm a 56 year old wife, mom, and grandma.. I worked at JoAnn Fabrics between archaeology gigs... I just went back to get a graduate certificate in GIS (Geographic Information Systems)at Oregon State U..This summer I am supposed to start an internship and take my last class in the fall.. Not sure that is going to happen at the moment...
March 27th I found a lump in my right breast - went to my primary physician and he sent me in for a mammo and ultrasound back to back. We were both shocked to find out it wasn't a cyst and was sent to a surgeon. When I saw the surgeon, I had a lumpectomy and sentinal node disection the next day.. 10 days later, after finding out it was IDC, the surgeon was clearing up the margins and taking my nipple (I didn't want any chances of not having a clear margin)- This all happened in 3 weeks. What a whirlwind.. I saw my oncologist yesterday and it looks good that I only need radiation but wants to be sure, so we are waiting on the oncotype test. Every day I feel a little better about what is happening. I know with the Lord at my side and a great support system (hubby, kids, and church), I will get through this.. I do hate waiting for test results.. that has been the worst.. but other than that..taking one day at a time...and trying to heal from the surgeries. I hope you ladies don't mind me joining you?

GmaFoley - Of course you can join this wonderful group of ladies. Yes, the waiting is the worst part but at least you have some direction already.
The initial part of this journey was also a whirlwind for me and it took about 2 weeks after surgery for the reality to set in. I felt like I had been run over by a big truck and was numb. I think my biggest relief was when I found out I would not have to go through chemo. My DH has had cancer twice I watched him go through it. So I have been on both sides of the fence - caregiver and patient.

Sheila - I am doing good. Decided to quit taking Lyrica for my toe joint pain - not getting good results. Started glucosamine/chondroitin and it has really helped. I can walk again with no pain.
