Hello ladies. I've been stalking you guys for awhile but today I feel the need to get in on the "action". I have my first apt with the Onc. I hope I like him. This BC is such a downer. I spend way too much time thinking about it. Every pain I feel I think well there ya go. I haven't shed a tear about this whole thing until last week. I took my cat to the vet and she was having elevated liver levels. Not a good thing. I had a melt down in the vet's office. I guess that just tipped me over the edge. My vet ws kinder to me than alot of doctors I've seen. lol. I've been thinking lately about whether I HAVE BC or HAD BC since my lumpectomy. You know when that word is associated with your name it puts a whole new perspective to the Big C. Have a great weekend.

Beetlebum - Welcome to the sisters. This is a great group of gals who lend a lot of support and information. This disease is overwhelming but just try to take it sone step at a time, one day at a time. It really does get better. (((HUGS)))

Beetlebum, welcome. From the outside, people think you Have BC until you are through treatment, then they think you should just get over it. For me, I Had BC until it was removed after that my body was treated to prevent any recurrance. That is just my way of thinking. And now, nearly 7 years after treatment ended, I still think about it every time I have an unexplained pain. You are not alone.0

Annettek praying for you both also.

Beetlebum - I had the same question and mentioned it to my onc nurse. She brought my question to my onc who then scribbled a note and she mailed it to me. The note said "you HAD cancer". .....I choose to go with that.

Welcome to all the new comers. I have been away for a week and have a lot to catch up on but will start with my news. I went to a massage therapist today who specializes in lymphodema- while she is not certain that I have it, she said there is certainly some edema left over from the surgery in August and radiation in December....she talked about how the lymph system works and about radiation and how long it stays in your body working its magic and not-so-much magic. She also seemed to think that despite what my radiologist said, that she suspects that radiation did play a part in my heart attack in March....as I said to her...I can't go back and undo anything so trying to figure what to blame does not help ...but in any case, she thinks she can help and can get me back to being pain free, not swollen and back into my wire bra if I so desire it! WHEEHA!!
Anyone else find their ribs and shoulder sore? I have lots of mobility in my shoulder and arm where they removed the lymph nodes but I have gotten two infections in my hand in the last three weeks on the cancer side..this is my second bout of antibiotics..from a scrape on the hand so be aware ladies and do as I did...if you get a scrape and the next day it is red, get in and get an antibiotic to stop it in its tracks!
night all

Wow, Sandee. I have not had any infection yet but thanks for the warning. I have breast lymphedema (AKA breast edema) and the therapist showed me how to massage it and man oh man, did my boob deflate right back down! It was amazing. I can manage to keep it under control, now that I know how to do the massage.
Speaking of massage, I bought a Groupon for one for $35 and just got back from a glorious 60 minutes of rubbing. Aaaaah. If I can buy more Groupons. I am there. I can do $35/week. I will skip dinner out on Saturday for a massage.

Barbara, I also bought a groupon massage certificate!!!! hot stone massage...think I may book it for next week or the week after to tide me over between massage visits. Did your massage therapist recommend any websites to see ho wself massage is done? I was checking some out on youtube but I am not sure how legit they are as techniques ...anything that can bring the breast down and ease the pain would be great.

Girs--according to my PT lymphedema and edema are sistas but they are different.
LYMPHEDEMA IS FOREVER/EDEMA IS WATER THAT TREATED PROPERLY WILL GO AWAY.I WEAR A COMPRESSION BRA/VEST/HARNESS WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT 24/7 FOR EDEMA.SHE DOES MASSAGES AND SO DO I.THE WATER IS ALMOST GONE BUT THE HARNESS STAYS FOR ONLY GOD KNOWS HOW LONG.
Annette-hope your son did well with the dentist.
Welcome newbees.Have a happy and safe Memorial Day.Please remember out troops in your prayers.God bless everyone.hugggggggs K

I bought another Groupon for a dinner cruise for two on a paddlewheel boat and can't wait! The deals are incredible. I can go out to dinner half price every night if I wanted to.

My very good friend is heading to Cabo just before my surgery... and she is so sweet that my heart is warmed by her -- she keeps telling me that she should just cancel her trip to be with me and help me out (I have a husband and a 16 year old son who will be out of school for the summer during my surgery and recovery) -- I keep telling her - no, go! but I must admit her willingness to cancel her trip to care for me is so very sweet... makes me teary eyed.. Let's all thank those angels in our lives that love us so..... (yikes - what mushy person took over my body????)

Hello once again to all the new sisters!! Not feeling so well here today I've had one heck of a migraine. Went and saw my primary physician on Thursday and all is well, but I am awaiting the dreaded routine liver profiles and cholesterol labs. LOL! guess I will get those back in a week or so. I have an appt on June 13th with the rad onco which I totally dread... he does the some more blood work the cancer antigen test and a chest x-ray, etc... he is a big pain in my tush!! It is ridiculous, I see doctors all the time . Just saw the med onco in April, primary in May, rad onco in June, the plastic surgeon in July and then I get a reprieve till October then it's the GYN and the Med onco again then in Nov it's the breast surgeon and time for my mammo! yeah I love my life it's a ball of fun sometimes seeing so many doctors!!
This is the life of a breast cancer survivor Sorry ladies I guess sometimes I need to rant about all the doctors visits and all the labs and tests. But I give thanks everyday that they come back B9

Mimi - Sorry you are feeling down today. This is the place to get it out. I think we are all sick of seeing doctors. I have 6 appts in June alone - the first appt is for my mammo. If that is clear then the rest of them are considered routine. Once June is over then I am free until Oct. I have my med onc & primary doctor every 4 months. For me, the appts are getting down to a better schedule.
What a life a breast cancer survior has. Not stop appts and constant worries.

I did something so stupid Oncologist on 20th and he always calls me back 48 hours later that means June 22nd. I have my mammo scheduled for that morning and I wont be home.
Now i will be double nervous that morning.
What was I thinking?
Hi Jo♥

Samsue - it definitely sounds like your oncologist is not giving you the attention you need/want, and I know I would never put up with an onc who didn't believe in and support complementary therapy. I am using EVERYTHING in the arsenal, medical, herbal, and spiritual, and thankfully my lovely oncologist is a traditional Indian fellow (turban and all!) and is completely on board with that. I feel very very lucky to have struck gold right away, especially in such a small town!!
seyla - no need to be nervous, because your mammo is going to be CLEAR!
Mimi- I'm sorry you are having a rough day. I'm sharing that with you - chopped off all my hair last night, and today was tough. But at least, I did it my way. Next step: chemo and baldness. Agh!
Welcome, Beetlebum! I know that feeling where you don't cry and don't cry, and then something just dissolves you. ((HUG))
Just wanted to check in with you all and see how everyone was doing.

Shiela - Hey girlfriend. Don't stress - your mammo is going to be clear. It is hard sometimes to juggle all the doctor appts - that's not stupid - that's what we do. You will have a morning of double good news.

Thank you Melmes & Jo.♥
Mammo doesn't make me very nervous. It's the tumor Marker test that drives me absolutely nuts. Yes after 6 years i still get nervous every 4 months.

Pain medicine is working great - no pain for 3 days now - a few twinges but nothing to write home about. It is also working on my toe joint pains -almost forgot what it was like to be more like my old self. Sleeping great and have more energy. I finally think I can see the light at the end of this very long tunnel.

Hang in there everybody! I try to remind myself all the time that BC is a roller coaster ride - on those really rotten days I figure there's nowhere to go but up!

I know I should appreciate that I have less appointments than I used to, but every 5-6 months I still have BW, mammo, CT, Onc, GP and Cardiologist. I got good news from Card. last week, I can go back to annual appts. I am hoping in July with Onc, she will cut out one of the tests.
0 -
Meece - We always like to hear good news - that is great - the cardiologist once a year.
My appts are finally getting down to a manageable level. June is the exception - mamm0, gyn, pain specialist (hopefully last time), onc, BS and GP. If all is well in June, the I will have my onc & GP every 4 months and then the annual mammo & gyn. I can live with that schedule.
