Welcome jtderyan. This is a fine group of folks who are always willing to help and offer up their experiences. I chose not to do arimidex as stroke and osteoporosis runs in my family. I have been using various supplements to help metabolize the little estrogen my body produces. So far so good but it really is a crap shoot. Just sayin'.

Welcome jtderyan - What a wonderful group of gals you have found.  Each one has their own experience and will come along and share theirs with you.  I am postmenopausal and chose to do Tamoxifen.  I did not fair well with Arimidex or Femara but found very little SEs with Tamox.  Like Barbara said this really is a crap shoot.  Each one of us has to made decisions based on what we know about our own bodies and follow what we believe to be the best for us.  Best of luck to you.

Welcome jtderyan--Welcome to the thread this is a great group of supportive ladies here.  I understand your reservation of tamox.  I ended up deciding to take it.  I think I ended up having all the SE's but my MO kept telling me my body would adjust.  I really though he was just placating me but I kept taking it.  I can say 4 months later my body had adjusted and the only SE I have now is some mild insomnia that melatonion takes care of and vaginal discharge that is not bad.  There are several threads that you can get some information on the alternatives here.  Read all the info and ultimatley you will make the right decsion for you.

I have been told, too, that on Tamoxifen, the side effects abate after 6-8 weeks...

Welcome jtderyan....We almost have the same DX except you are very young.

    Glad you found our sisterhood.

I'm also very sensitive to medications but I really did OK with Femara.

Our experiences vary even with the same DX.

Hey Seyla...........your doing ok with Femara?...............I think we talked before, but guess what, I'm 1 months and 2 days out of Rads, and I have still not started Femara.................I actually held the bottle in my hand...............was going to  open it and take it.................then put it into the cabinet where I keep my medicines............................What the hell is wrong with me, that I just can't bring myself to take this shit................................maybe its because I have uncomfortable days due to arthritis.........................I just can't bring myself to open that bottle, and put the damn thing in my mouth.

If I didn't know better, I would think I had some kind of a mental block about this drug...........honestly...........and this is true...............I am 76...........have never been on an airplance because I am scared to death of flying..............have turned down........Florida 2 times..........all expenses paid with one son, and then another son asked me to go with him..................Hawaii with another one of the kids.......................Chicago where I have 2 grandsons, who are begging me to come see them................and all these are paid for...............................I'm that scared I won't go.........................guess what...........I would get on a plane with all of them now if they asked me too, and someone told me I could do that instead of taking Femara...............Now that is one for the history books, cause I will not fly, no way, never, yet I would choose that over Femara...................I really need help

Hey ducky....I know what you are going through because it took me a while to take the first dose.

My last dose was in March of this year.

This was my experience. The first few months I had hot flashes then they stopped.

Didn't experience any joint or other pain. Bones didnt melt.

My hair started to thin the last year and it could also be my age.

Please try not to go into a panic stage. When you are ready I come here and wait for you to swallow the cute tiny pill. OK???♥

duckyb1 I may have jumped in here on the late side of your dilemma, but think we all feel that way to a certain extent.  I felt that way when I started Arimidex, but was more at ease when I realized that the SE were manageable.  I then switched to Tamoxifen after 14 months and felt the same way again.  Don't forget, no one can force you to take the medication if it's too much for you to bare.  I bet that if you swallow just one, the others will go down easier.  Best of luck.

P.S.  If you give me the #'s of you son and grandsons, I'll call them and let them know that you are ready to come for a visit Laughing

wenweb..................I am being ridiculous................I think my kids don't even listen anymore when I speak of Femara....................they feel I should at least try it............they tell me............"you always need someting to worry about"..............they say "if you take the Femara, and there are no SE's what will you worry about".............................I told them................I'll find something.............they understand my feelings...............but they also know the possible result of not doing it........................Now I am going to go wrap my LE arm.......................oh ok, I could take the pill...................and worry more about my LE..........................see I just found something else to worry about.............haha

duckyb1....I'm not an avid flyer either.  But it helps if you take a non-stop flight, which is what we do when flying back to Kentucky to see my parents....due to my DH health issues, were doing good going back twice a year....then it was once a year....now we haven't been there since last May.  6/1/10 was when all the drama started with me.  But, we are going to have to fly back sometime soon....and I will NOT drive from AZ to KY........it's 3.5 hours by planeCool And even tho' I was told no alcohol.....a Bloody Mary is a MUST!Tongue out

duckyb1 Something I just remembered from flying on TWA when they were still in existence.  After landing, the stewardess would always say "you have just completed the safest part of your trip, please remember to buckle your seatbelt when you get in your car"  This was before we had seatbelt laws of course, and I have always remembered that.  On any day at any time and for any reason we could die, not to mention the fact that we all have cancerSurprised  It puts things in perspective for me.

OOOh how Im afraid and nervous of flying.

Last year I went to see my DD in Hawaii.

Direct Flight to Honolulu 11 hours. It was sooo long and I did it all by myself.Smile

This year Im not gonna take direct because it was a very long flight so Im flying from West County Airport and have 2 stops.

The first plane is not a jet it's a small plane which I can easily say I'm terrified

I will be needing lot of sisters in my pocket.

    Seyla-

I'm like you...break up the flight for me and it's better.  Not too much time sitting in the same cramped space.  I hate flying, but I've had the experience of several flights in small planes, and strangely, I felt calmer on them.  One time, the flight attendant knew I was nervous and she sent a pilot who was on the flight (not working) to sit next to me.  He explained everything that was going on, (all the funny noises and bumps, etc) and since that time the smaller planes have been easier for me.  He said just remember when it feels like you've dropped, sometimetimes you've actually bumped up over the turbulence and are returning back down to your normal altitude.

I'd be happy to be in your pocket, and I wish you the safest of trips, and a wonderful visit with your DD.

Ducky-----I know how you feel about the femara AND you know i feel the same way BUT at least i tried......im not tellin you what to do because if anyone tried to tell me i wouldnt listen either BUT one of the sistas told me this....you are not signing any contract with your dr.they cannot force you to take it,you can always stop it if you want to AND if your dr gives you a hard time tell him/her to try it before he/she pushes that shit on us....she did convince me to at least try it.i did for 3 weeks.and then after i had all kinds of stomach issues i did tell my dr...ya know what??????why dont you give it to your wife, mother, daughter, girlfriend and then push that shit on me....and if you dont want to treat me thats fine too...ill find one who will....and i did!!!!!!!!

so with the tamoxifen and other 'medicines', are you allowed to take any anti-nausea drugs with them?  i hate hate hate feeling nausated... i do not look forward to the fatigue or the emotionality, but know i can handle those.... i cannot handle nausea....?

vhshea I was terribly nauseated at first.  To the point I could not get out of bed.  MO put me on prescription prilosec twice a day. I am now down to once a day but am also on some other meds now that can cause stomach issue so I am not brave enough to try to go without it.

vhshea - Depending how bad your nausea is you may want to have your doctor give you something like Sherry did or if is it relatively mild you may want to try taking your pill with some milk.  That is what I did and it worked for me.  I have been on Tamox for 6 months and no problems.
