Hello my lovely ladies, been a long time since I've been on here-life kinda got crazy in Oct. Have tried to read over the last few pages of threads and just wanted to pop back in and see how you all were. So sorry to hear about your great aunt Mimi. Will say a prayer for her and your family. Grannydukes, that baby is soooooo cute. Sorry about the lack of sleep, I totally empathize. My first born didn't sleep through the night til he was 18 months old. Tell him all the time now (he's 10 now) that he's lucky he has any brothers.
Good to see you all here.

I think everyone has an Aunt Ruth. Mine was a strong woman. Sometimes so strong I was afraid of her. She docked my dog's tail with a razor blade when she was just a little puppy. This was back in the 50s. What a lady!

Hey K ♥0 -
Hi, I am 53 with 2 younger children, and yes it was god awful.
Nothing and no one can prepare us for this kind of fear. I can only say, we are here for each other. I myself have had a terrible year, in bed most of it, and to bout had harrassment and intimation by neighbours, and as a result no one has helped me at all - I have had to do it all. I am stronger, and look at people differently, see things for what they are.
Dont let the doctors mess u about, stick up for yourself. I have had a terrible hospital team, rude breast care nurses, and spent all day on the day of the operation (as everyone had forgotten about me) , for 8 hours sitting in the clinic before surgey. My surgeon got sick, and top of that felt terrible alone. I still managed the day after op to go visit everyone else who had come in on the same day.
And hell it didnt stop me from finding a boyfriend who I meet 2 weeks before being diagnosed, who doesnt care to hoots about my small scar, operation, many months of being very ill, we have had alot of ups and downs but he still says I look cute, and cuddly. Without him I would of been lost.
Always remember we are here, sharing and caring. God bless.

Welcome Pinkie. I am so sorry you have to be here, but very glad you have found us. You are not alone anymore. Harrassment & intimidation by your neighbors, well, shame on them. Let's hope they never have to go through what you & we have & be treated that way. And such terrible treatment in the hospital - I won't say the words I have on the tip of my tongue for them! I wish you lots of happiness with your special guy & your children. You are one strong sista!!
On a different note, I am in seventh heaven tonight as my grandchildren are sleeping upstairs. They are here overnight to leave in the morning for a trip to FL with my DD & SIL. They will be gone a week & will be here overnight on their way back home. Yay!! We had a tea party, played Barbie Go Shopping (go fish), dollies & cars. Such fun! My other DD & SIL came up for pizza. It was so grand to have all my family together here in my home. I love them all so much....
Hugs to you all!0 -
Val it's been nice all week here in FL. Wanting to wear the new sweater I bought but it's still to hot. Our office is about 74 so I'm thinking it's the same outside.... not! Hope your family has fun while here.
Welcome to Pinkie... i't hard to go it alone, so glad you have a BF to help you along the way.

Hi to all Stage I sisters...
My favorite time of year - Thanksgiving - I guess we can all find something in the midst of all this - maybe just for that special person who went out of the way to validate or put us at ease...I'm thankful for caller ID :-)
But most of all this year for the wonderful ladies who choose to stay connected in order to share love and support at a time when we are so needy and nobody else gets it.
Seriously, it is a time when the nation stops to be with friends or family - without conflict or disagreement.
Val - I know exactly what you mean about having the visit with the grandaughters...it is magical....I have 6, 4 and 10 months...they transport me to a magical world of princesses and tea parties...snuggling with stories, Mickey mouse pancakes (oh, and Minnie w/bow)...I love it all. My daughters have continued to have me spend time with them and even babysit through all - and it was/is my best therapy. The grandsons are wonderful too - especially the 2 year old who is still hug-able.
Thanks for reminding me of my blessings today.

Hi all sorry I've not been on in a few days but I've been rather sick. Went to the GYN and Med Onco on Friday and received good reports from both. Med Onco sent me for a bone density scan (my first ever) and they called me today and said I have excellent bones... so no osteopenia or osteoporosis either. Yea!!! Now everyone will lay off me about the Calcium and etc... yuck those things are nasty! lol!! Then I started getting sick Friday on the way home with a stomach bug and was sick all weekend. Just feeling better today. My little 2 yr old granddaughter is sick today with it. I feel bad for her cause she doesn't understand why she feels bad hope hers doesn't last as long as mine did. Well take care and stay well

Hey there, i am very concerned about having radiation if i choose a lumpectory. Did you have any complications with your new surgery and reconstruction ffrom your radiation years ago?
0 -
wwcarver, welcome. I had a lumpectomy and radiation. There are several threads that you can check into. I joined a group of ladies when we were all going thru it at the same time and what a wonderful support group it was! Perhaps you can check one of the older threads and just read thru it or jump into a group that's going on now.... As for me.... yes, I still have some problems from the lumpectomy and the tan line from the rads is still there. But, it's still one day away from the diagnosis and that's always good.

wwcarver radiation does effect reconstruction that you might have later. Makes it more risky. I am planing on a BMX and am in the process of getting opinion from different PS. They all have said wish you can come to us before rads. So if nothing else go get a consult before you do rads.

Hello Ladies, I have an unusual situation and want to throw it out there, to see if it makes any sense. I had my Lumpectomy in April, 1.5 cm since a couple of months I have developed intense ache and pain in my shoulder and neck on the side of my good breast. After, physical therapy and pain killer, muscle relaxants and the rest, nothing really helps for long.
I started thinking if it could be related to the uneven proportion of the breasts after surgery.
Has anybody else had similar issues?

Hey wwcarver1, I had partial mastectomy/lumpectomy 2yrs ago in Oct. I completed my radiation this coming Feb. 2yrs ago. This December it will be one year since I completed my reconstruction. After radiation my breast shrank from a DD to a very hard B due to contracting from the radiation and of course my Left breast still remained a DD. I was very lopsided. The plastic surgeon I found told me I had to wait until the radiation had stop working and the breast stopped contracting to have reconstruction. It took almost a year. He had to be very careful about how much he could do to the irradiated side, but different doctors have different opinions. He ended up doing a reduction and a lift of the non-cancerous side and a lift of the cancerous side and thankfully when he went to lift it the tissue expanded and the hardened breast tissue softened even more. It had already started to anyway. Healing was quick and no problems. The key is finding a great surgeon that excels in his field. Good Luck in your decision as it is very personal. I hope I have helped answer some of your questions.

Mimi is right. Not every Plastic surgeon is skilled at handling BC recon. Mine happened to be cautious as irradiated tissue reacts differently. I had my radiation 7 years ago and have had two recons from my partial/segmental mx. the side that recieved radiation is still changing mildly, but enough that I know it is happening.
