Thx Judy and truebff, had the surg Mon, preliminary node test was negative Whoopee!!!Even the BS and PS came in hosp room grinning from ear to ear but as the BS said we are not outta the woods,we gotta wait on the finals from the lab to be 99% sure. I am now home sleeping in my recliner. This may be mentioned somewhere else on this site but if not,I am passing it along. I already had a side sleeper pillow cause I like to side sleep but now in my recliner I put it under my back and this recliner has a little cubby for the remote but I use it for my meds and whatever I need to be near me,my cell phn. They decided at the last minute to do a skin sparing mastectomy so I have 2 lines in the middle of each breast and an indentation for a piece of cancer that was almost under my arm on the side that had cancer behind the nipple that wouldnt show anywhere but our Ultra sound. So far I am satisfied but was not prepared for the pain level....hope they renew my pain meds after the 30 day supply. Is it possible? i got so tired of trying to get the sweat pants off and on,I just put on my Wendy gown from peter pan and pinned my drains to it and I have my useless Q pain pump hanging from neck like an alien necklace. I cant go in public since I am in the "alien pregnancy" til the home health nurse gets it out. My fed plan is providing home health nurse for 3 wks. Its good cause fiance has to work and he tried to cover me with the heated throw and accidentally hit me in the chest with attachment to control the heat. I expected the police to show up after that scream but my neighbors obviously dont care...lol. I called my PS to report him and she got on the phone with him (shes a doll) and hopefully he realizes that I am now the china doll, fragile and breakable even tho have no Asian blood that I know of. Glass Barbie here,I find if I stand up really straight my TE doesnt bother me as much. I got Tylenol with Codeine and Valium (after 3 meltdowns at the hosp) and of course the antibiotics. Should I ask for something stronger? Will I be in too much pain once the pain pump is removed? Learned so much on this site. Totally indebted to all of you for your wonderful insight. You are all very brave and wish speedy recovery to all, long life and health and happiness.

Layla---I wish for you quick healing along with pain free days

If you need stronger meds dont be ashamed to ask.If your dr.has a heart he will give you any pain meds that you need with all thats goin on..Tylenol w/codeine has different strengths.what strenght did dr give you?it should be on the label. The valium also has different strenghts...I hope you dont need more cause they are addictive.YES both of them are!!!!!

Rest, drink plenty of water eat protein and sleep.

Tomorrow is another bright new day...Ill be prayin for you.hugggggggs K

    Layla,
So glad you are home even if it is a chore to move around.
About the pain - I did not have serious pain management issues; however, for me, the key to pain managment was anticipation - take the meds before the pain becomes unmanageable.   If you keep on top of it, you will need less and experience less intense pain.
A schedule is OK except i would feel the drugs building up in my body and want to stay away for awhile...so some degree of flexibility is implied.
If the Tylenol C isn't strong enough, don't wait - ask for something stronger temporarily.
I found valium would knock me out but xanax would just take the edge off..you have to see how you are feeling because everybody is different.
Do take care of yourself and don't rush recovery.
    Gentle hugs!

    Joan

Why cant I just listen to anybody? I went out to the farmers market today to get veggies cause I like to order a plain pizza and put my own veggies on it. Just warm up in the oven with a little extra grated cheese. Fiance had to drive me since I am on Ty co #3 with 30 mg codeine and also 5mg of Valium which dr has put me at my own discretion, I was down to one a day but they took my kodachrome away...oh wait a minute that wasnt a camera it was the useless Q pain pump ok back to 4 hr intervals again for pain pills. I needed to stop by the drugstore for supplies but I was exhausted and came back home. Dumbo aka dear fiance boiled my mushrooms to kill the germs!!!OMG..I am gonna starve with this man trying to cook for me. I then let him go get the pizza so I wouldnt hurt him even tho it could have been delivered while I drained and then stir fried the mushrooms and veggies to go on the pizza. Best part of waking up is pain pills in my cup!!! yes baby!! I am in control and loving it!!!No more waiting for ms nurse to get off her fat butt and give me my pain pill (no offense intended I am sure there are very good hard working nurses out there) Hope all of you get the no cancer node results and have a speedy recovery hugs & health to all.

Totally off-topic........Here's something fun and free to do this weekend to help the Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in their research.  It's the Great Backyard Bird Count Feb. 17-20.  I do this every year (well, skipped last year as I was recovering from my BMX).  Spend 15 minutes identifying and counting birds in your backyard, local park, etc.
