Mimi - what does the pain feel like? I have pain up my back - like I can do everything, it is not stopping me but sometimes it feels tender. Is that from the tamoxifen?

Sheila you have a great time and remember us while you are sunning yourself and eating all that good food!

Hawk my pain feels like arthritis pain.  Problem is I didn't have it till I was taking the Tamoxifen.  When I went off the Tami and went on Arimidex the pains and joint creakiness that the doctors call crepitus (arthritis) went away.  I've been back on Tami for a few weeks now and all the aches, pain and creaks are back.  Very very strange.  Severe hair loss with Arimidex and stomach problems then these issues with the Tami.  Seems like their is no winning this battle for me.  If I'm going to take something to battle the big C then I will have to suffer other side effects.  It really stinks that there is nothing out there for those of us that get the side effects from these drugs that will work without causing us to have side effects.  But I guess if one drug causes hairloss all are bound too.  :((  I knew the Tami caused some it just didn't cause the loss like the Arimidex did.  The good thing is come Oct. it will be 3 yrs since my dx. and in Feb. 3 yrs since I've been taking meds so only 2 more to go.

Hi Kaara, Hey were you on vacation from vacation?  Hope it was cooler.... Missed you here Smile

Filter Lady, Have a great trip to Norfolk.  Reunions are such fun.

Ducky,  Lost this thread?  Same for me.  It just disappeared.  When I'd search using the exact name of the thread, it wasn't found.  I found it by clickng on Sheila since she started it Cool.  I resaved it and today it finally appeared...
Re: Femara - I'm not even sure how to know neuropathy...I take a generic and just read the label (made for Accord Healthcare by Intas pharmaceuticals in India).  SEs not as bad as Arimidex but the first week or two had the most SEs.  I have less joint pain but more mood swings (aka depression moment).  No hair loss for me.  My ankles swell, and I am carrying a little more fluid but sleep, diet and keeping cool help that.  I hope you can find a drug that works for you.  Glad you had a good time at the shore!
    nite all,
    Joan

Sheila, have fun and I am so happy that you  have no SE's.

I worry about SE's for my mom after reading so much about bone pain. She is still trying to recover from back surgery.  i am a bit confused on how the determination is made as to what med you get. My mom is ER+/PR+/HER- so how/when will we know? And the BS said that since her Stage 1 ILC is not very agressive, she would NOT need chemo unless nodes were involved. But yet it looks like others have chosen it anyway. I really had no idea that the oral meds could cause such problems as I have read on here. I guess i kept concentrating on teh SE's from chemo.

Granny Duke and Ducky: i am so sorry for your SE's and LE ( i still don't know what that means exactly but i sure hope my mom don't get it) but i just want to tell you both that at times you crack me up. I wish you both well and less pain.

Mimi: congrats, it was a great picture. Your story reminds me that 15 years ago, my husband cheaped out on tux's for his guys. (not that your daughter did that on her dress) but he picked them from a truly crappy hole in the wall. one hour before, my sister in law was literally sewing everything on each one of the 7! needless to say after a few drinks at the reception, they all started ripping off the sleeves etc and then later drove over and dumped them on the doorstep of the hole in the wall! The pictures are priceless. Best of luck to your daughter.

OKAY, the MX is Friday morning for mom. I am worried sick. She seems to be okay but again i worry about her holding it in. Anyway we are having a "party" at their new home here tomorrow evening and then a quiet dinner out on Thursday. I hope that makes the time pass quicker. Going back to earlier posts, they said she isn't healthy enough for reconstruction at the time, so my question is about the recovery of just the MX? I know we fill find out shortly but we have a scheduled long weekend away at a nice lake just about a month after so i was wondering if we should cancel it and would need to do so quickly otherwise lose the deposit on the condo.

well good night all and hope you all have a great comfortable rest :)

Thanks Ladies.............your always in my thoughts...............starting the "generic" Femara tonight......it is letrozole from TEVA..........was told  that mfg. is probably the best one......my insurance company said they will make sure I get only TEVA generic, so I don't have to deal with "new SE's" from another manufacturer every 3 months................guess I should be grateful.......how come I'm not.

    Sheila.............have a great time.......

Will let everyone know how the "generic" works out.......................

Carey, I'm older than your Mom and recovered quickly from my MX. I've been taking anastrasole (Arimidex generic) since March without any SEs. Can you put off your long weekend at the lake for a few weeks? I was up and about, but foobless and feeling conspicious at a month. I think she'll be fine. The MX was far easier than abdominal surgery (the only other kind I've had). I think I took pain medication for about 3 days. I'm sure it will be far easier than her back surgery was. I elected not to have recon and am happy with that decision. I think chemo depends partly on age as well as stage. If you are 37 and have a long life ahead, they are far more like to prescribe chemo than if you're older, just because you have so much longer for a reccurrence to happen. Best wishes to your Mom and the whole family.

Wren: we can postpone but if so, not if all of us will go as all the grandkids go back to school etc and I'm not sure if mom and dad would have such a great time without all of us there. (meaning we are in charge of food, cooking etc!!)Plus I am thinking they would be bored stiff! So getting down to the bottom line, I assume that swimming could be out of the question - she kinda has that i dont care attitude - so I am not sure she would be self concious about the foob but we havent' been there/done that yet. I am more concerned about pain etc at that point of the recovery?

Oh and i forgot to ask not only pain but stitches etc as far as swimming one month later - is that doable assuming that she is okay without a foob? And how long after recovery until its reasonable to get fitted?

Carey, I hope you get your questions answered  You can try a Mx thread or a recent surgery thread too.  You will find that answers vary.  Most do well after surgery  If the drains are out and no annoying unexpecteds, your parents would probably love to go.....only thing I remember was that long or bumpy car rides always reminded me of where my surgery was.
    Good luck with that.
As far as the drugs, I try to be positive about my A.I. drug.  there are annoying SEs but for me, nothing that stops me from doing everything I want to do.  Lots of times people who don't have SEs don't post here.
Wishing you the best week with your mom....my time with my daughters before surgery was precious. They took me out to a great restaurant and we laughed and taked about crazy family memories.  It's almost a year for me and I want to go out again only this time to celebrate -- after my one year mammo, of course.
It is an emotional time, but follow your mom's lead and believe she will be OK.

carey:  Praying you mom will come through her surgery and be just fine.

ducky:  Sending you positive energy...feel better and hope that new drug works for you.

Went to new eye doc for injection yesterday and ended up there for two hours going through exam, scans, paperwork, and no injection!  I was annoyed because I had prepared myself for it, now I have to go up to Asheville next Thursday...something about the insurance had to be approved for out of state treatment...grrrr!  On the other hand, I don't want to be stuck with a bill for $2,000!

Finally getting some much needed rain here in NC!

I am sure Sheila is well on her way.  Can't wait to see her pics.

Carey, prayers for your mother's speedy recovery.

Kaara, a week's wait is much better than a $2,000 bill, but I understand how you have to phsych yourself up for that.  Good luck next Thursday.

Ducky, I hope that your new med works for you without SEs.

Carey, Stretching her arm for some swimming strokes might be uncomfortable. Playing in the water would probably be OK. Ask BS how long she should wait to swim (thinking drain should be healed first). My BS said no bra for 5 weeks, so I was fitted at 6 weeks. My swim suit was little old lady with high top and armpits already and a supportive bra. I made a foob out of nylon net and sewed it into the suit. Works fine and dries right away. I may have to re-do it smaller if I keep losing weight. My only limitation at 1 month was not lifting over 10lbs. Still have to remind myself with my suitcase. Good luck to all this Friday.

    Carey

In my case my tumor was E+P+Her-.  It was stage 1 but a grade 3 (very agressive grade).  The MO had an Oncotype test done on it, and because of my age (69) clean nodes, and the test results, he said he saw no benefit in me having Chemo.  I did have the  Contura Balloon radiation (inside area where tumor had been).

I woud ask her surgeon about the swiming aspect......  I sympathize with your mom over the back surgery.  I had 1 in 1971, 1 in 1981 and 2 in 1983.  Still have residual pain (sciatic) and neuropathy in feet, have learned to live with it...

I hope you all have a nice 'vacation', and that mom will  really enjoy the extra family time.

Krill is a type of tiny shrimp-like sea creatures, krill oil has omega3 fatty acids, and it is  usually packaged in capsules like fish oil is.

Thanks Meece, you saved me an explanation......................Granny............I was on another BC website, (desperate to find out more info about swollen legs and feet, horrible pain in same, and just "shit in general" about Femara and letrozole................a woman on one of the sites talked about all her aches and pains, swelling, etc, and said she tried Krill Oil, and much of her problems went away ................she had been taking "fish oil", which I do too, and even though good for you, it did nothing special for her.........................when she heard about Krill Oil, she tried it, and said..............she got relief from her symptoms......................I ordered it, and it should be here today............................hey doing the best I can.......just hoping this works............I can handle pain ............hell I gave birth to 6 kids, and 2 of them the "drugs" (at the time, no epidural) didn't work, so BABY , I KNOW PAIN, THE LAST ONE WAS 9LBS 4 OUNCES..............THOUGHT I DELIVERED A BUS................anyway it is more the "swollen feel and legs...........................that is horrible...

Also, have taken 2 of the Letrozole, and so far nothing, but "duh" what the hell is 2..................guess time will tell about that....................figure at least I'm not paying $348.00 co-pay to be in pain............its only gonna cost me $62.00 to feel like shit.......................time will tell..........

Going to the new therapist today..................."here we go again"..........I feel like a friggin dog, chasing its tail".......................

By the way there is also a "krill oil" that comes from "whales"................not sure what that one is all about.......

Krill Oil is supposed to be better than fish oil in that it is more pure and doesn't spoil as quickly.  It's what I now take in a pill form.  I have very few aches and pains..just in my shoulders and neck where I've always had it, but it doesn't get worse and I've been able to play golf again.  Hopefully it will help.  My eye doctor also recommended it for my eye health, so I'm killing two birds;)

ducky:  You might want to increase the doseage if you don't get results from the initial dose.  My BF takes up to six a day with his meals.  He has MS, and it helps his pain.
