GrannyK, this is the time to let those proper drugs do their job and take the edge off.
I'd be nervous too. Thing is, nobody can do this but you...and we can only wait in your pocket and send gentle hugs your way. Hope we don't wiggle too much....this guy's gotta get it right the first time!

No about the snow....it was very inconvenient - rain/snow about 2-4" but roads were clear. Still I get nervous because I drive 60 miles each day, some at night, and worry about ice. It's warmer now and it's melting!

One word - insurance. Actually, with the right meds and a visiting nurse, home can be the best place to be. The infection rate in hospitals is high and people often get secondary illnesses in the hospital. I prefer to be home where my germs know and love me.

So last week was once again another rough ride on the BC rollercoster! It started on the thurs before my right side reconstruction that on the 25th I has to have surg to have the hemotoma evacuated, well it started to get pink and I started to drip from the drain hole and small Ooze from the incision. By Sat night it was red, hot painful ooze that had a smell. Called ps sun first thing he called in antibiotics and made an appointment for me for Monday. Went in Monday not good sent to infectious disease they said I need an ultra sound with an aspiration of the fluid. But all the radiologist that do that prose endure we're go for the day. The radiologist said continue your oral antibiotics and come back tomorrow for the aspiration. I said the ID and PS will not like this you need to talk to them they want me on IV antibiotics today. So after they conferenced they redid the ultra sound marked the site and cave the coordinates to the PS and he aspirated 60 cc of fluid. Just that helped on the pain. Then the sent me to infusion for the IV antibiotics. PS told me not to eat anything after midnight he was adding me onto the surg list for tomorrow if it did not start to improve. So Tue morning it was lighter more pink than red but still hot and painfull. he called me in the morning said he would rather schedule me than have be as an add on and if it was not worse..... He then when on to explain that then infection had compromised the TE and it had to be removed. So Wed. I had surg and the TE was removed I am still on daily IV antibiotics at the infusion center ( re- evaluation today) have to was at least 6 weeks for right side to heal before that can put another TE in. I am frustrated, depressed and trying to find the good... I am holding on to the fact that at least I do not have to have chemo! I teach and advise on a college campus I thought I would be back in 4 weeks it has been 2 months today. I'm still having physically therapy to get my arm motion and strength back! I thought I had researched and planned..... So much for best laid plains! AND can you believe our dog was diagnosed with type 3 mast cell cancer they same week I was called back in for my mamo... Here's is terminal and she is not doing so well right now but trying to be happy and there for me! Guggenheim I need to stop I could go on and on. Thank you for listening.

I'm so sorry for your set back. It is depressing and discouraging. I've had wound healing issues in my radiated breast after my second reconstruction (DIEP flap) and have been on antibiotics for 8 weeks and wound clinic 3x week since the first of January. It is starting to heal but still has a ways to go. Since my CA DX my acute back pain has turned to chronic related to degenerative disc disease. I had steroid injection in spine 11 days ago and still have had no relief if anything it is worse cause pain meds aren't helping much. I honestly can see why some people would want to commit suicide due to chronic pain and disease but. . . .

seabeal, sorry its so rough right now. I have a huge seroma that has been drained numerous times. Surgery has been mentioned but I am declining because that breast has been irradiated and I have heard too many stories of poor healing etc. Hope yours is better soon.

I am new here and not sure if this is the right place to post. I have to decide tomorrow if I'm going to have chemo or not and I've been going back and forth in my head since my MO brought it up. It caught me by surprise because I had a bilateral mastectomy, clear nodes and thought I was done (even though my surgeon said there was a chance I'd have to do chemo I didn't hear her
My oncotype DX score was 27 (17% chance of recurrence) which puts me as intermediate risk and my MO wants me to do a clinical trial with either TAC or TC (they choose). I am getting a second opinion tomorrow, but would appreciate any input. I'm getting the impression the docs recommend chemo for just about everyone.Nice to meet y'all,

Shea so sorry for your infection and surgery. I hope you are able to get healed up and back on track
Allie- Not knowing what your stats are here are a few things to consider. What is your KI67. My onco score was 23 but my KI67 was less than 10%, I was also stage 1, grade1, so I did not do chemo and went with the Zometa protocol. My MO thought I was an excellent candidate for it.

Allie, How old are you? That would be one of my considerations. If you re younger I would think strongly about doing the chemo. If you are older than it would definately be a harder decision. As other have said size, type. er,pr and her + are all considerations. Hope you get the knowledge you need you need to make a decision you are comfortable with.
