Ducky, Flying is way less harrowing than being with some drivers. Mostly it's just boring. Once you take off you get above the clouds, and that's all you can see. Be sure to take a book or magazine to read and something to eat. I always take almonds and dried apricots and sometimes cookies. Any more, all you get on the plane is a snack and a pretty pitiful one at that. When you get to the gate, tell the gate person that you need pre-boarding. They let folks who might be slow or have kids in hand go first. If walking is difficult or slow, you can ask for meet and assist. They will have a wheelchair or a little vehicle that holds about 6 people and take you to the gate.

I worked for Pan Am in Houston for several years and we flew everywhere. After I quit, we took a car trip to western Texas. The kids wanted to know what time zone we were in and we were still inside the city limits!

So they did take the drain out said 41/2 weeks was long enough. within 3 hrs it feels like I have someone standing on my chest. changing bandage 3x day. beter than a drain but the preasure is painful!. The hemotoma is growing and gettin harder. the visiting nurse is coming in again today. Think I am ging to have to go back to the PS and eith have it aspirated or one of the other things he said may ned to happen is he my need to take me back into the er and vacumm the hemotoma out. Nothing has  been added to this side except the TE during surg and it is the size of half a cantalopue.

SheaJ, the drains are a good thing.  Had a lumpectomy with no recostruction.  Large hemotoma that would not resolve.  They tried to drain it but it was a few days too late.  My incision ended up opening and that was not fun.  Delayed my radiation by a one month.  What is crazy, they don't close you back up when that happens.  The stuff I had to do!  hang in there.

Shea, as if just having BC isn't enough....sorry you are going through this.  If it doesn't feel better, follow up.

Ducky, Wren is right about the flight.  And boarding ahead makes things less stressful (usually).  The first thing I do after I go through security is buy a large bottle of water ... can't get it before you go through because they will take it away.  And I always bring snacks like nuts and mini cheeses and crackers.  I do this mainly because I have been delayed while in the plane and they offer nothing if they are on the ground.
You will be so glad you went!  Can I go in your pocket?  I want to surprise my DS in Chicago who never calls me.

I take a xanax a 1/2 hour before I fly. My rationale brain knows I was in much more danger every day when I was a road warrior for work, but I still don't like to fly. But I figure if my niece can fly 17 hours to Austrailia with a 2-year old, I can make it a couple of hours to FL. :-)

Welcome Amy , MnMom38 and SheaJ.  sorry all of you are here with us but it is a great place for support.  Keep us posted on what is going on with you so we can give you the support that was given to us.

Joan811 thanks for asking about my lasted surgery.  I went back to the PS last week and he partially released me.  I get full release the end of march.  He said everything looks great but he is being cautious with me.  So still sleeping in a bra, no gym or yoga.  He did say I could start running because I found a very supportive underwire sports bra that does not let me bounce around.  It is so comfortable I bought another one to sleep in.  I have been crazy busy at work.  On the 10th have my best friends from CA coming to visit a couple of days and then on the 15th my child hood girlfriends and I are going to the San Antonio River walk for the night and shop the next day.  We always have fun when we get together.

Had the best day yesterday I have had since finding lump 2 months ago! A few weeks out from last surgical biopsy, waiting for oncotype and BRCA tests to come back, so in a holding pattern for another week. Felt almost normal yesterday. Sun was shining, it was 30 degrees, ski trails groomed by neighbor, all the way to my yard. Was able to cross country ski and run 3 miles all in the same day! Felt amazing to enjoy the simple pleasures that I have so often taken for granted. PTL for cupcakes, family with which to share them; sunshine on a winter day, and the energy to run with it over my shoulder; groomed ski trails and the beloved friends and neighbors that share them; and most of all a gracious and loving God who gave us the mind, body, and spirit with which to experience them all! And thank God for strong women like you who come together to support each others as sisters!

Mnmom, It is so good to hear about your good day.  I could smell the clean snow and picture the sky.  I am not sure where you are; but so much of the country has snow it could be a lot of places!  Glad you realize you can ski and run and enjoy the outdoors. It's great therapy. I had to get out Saturday after two 3 day week ends stuck inside...DH and I went to the beach and walked in the rain to go see the harbor seals.  It felt so good, but we got really wet on our way back. I actually ran 1/2 way in the sand.  I took a lot of photos.  Good luck with your test scores and continued recovery.

Sherry, so glad you are seeing the light with the PS.  It must feel great...you had a long ordeal.  I hope you are happy with the outcome.  It is awesome that you can run now...and visits from friends are the best.  I love the River walk - had lots of fun times there with DH, friends, and some of my kids on different visits.  Once when I went to a conference in November, they were filming a christmas special so the Walk was completely decked out in the holiday lights and music.  That was an unexpected bonus.
Hang in there as you move forward and further away from BC.

Mnmom38 - I envy you getting out on the skies.  I'm definitely not into cross country but I love down hill. We have some really great snow right now and our daughter and family are coming for spring break. Her husband loves to ski but can't go due to healing issues. I have been going to the wound clinic for past 2 months due to extensive tunneling and undermining plus infection in my radiated breast. We are 1/2 the size we were 2 months ago and don't want to risk pulling anything apart.

Anyway enjoy the skiing and think of me out there, I can almost feel the wind in my face!

    Hi Kim...
Shea, hope you are feeling better.
Seabeal, Taos must have gotten a nice snowfall this week...I have not been there but it's kind of on my bucket list.  I was in Forbes Park CO a few months ago, and Taos is said to be the nearest ski area.  Hope you feel better soon.
    Hi Val, are you back??
    Hugs and nite all,
    Joan

Joan if you ever head this way let me know, would love to meet you and more then happy to have you as a guest. Its so beautiful up here no matter the season. The skiing is top rated, spring is breath taking watching everything coming alive and the rivers rushing from the snow melt. Summer temperatures vary depending where you are at but where I live if it hits 90 it is a heat wave and fall provided spectecular colors. It is definitely one of America's hidden treasures.

One day it will seem like decades ago when you went through all of this.  I speak from experience as I round the corner and see my ten year mark in sight.  The sense that you went through all of this never goes away completely but it does fade.

Meece i know what you mean... My 3 yr anniversary of completion of radiation came and went the first of Feb. and I didn't even give it a second thought.  I actually remembered it a few days ago.  Granny I hope everything is going well with you and your son.

Welcome to the newbies.  I too haven't been on in a few weeks.  Val Jean: we never did get that big snow and extended freeze we so desperately need to get rid of bugs, etc.  I guess we will have to deal again this year from the looks of things.  We have had more than our fair share of rain this winter while other places have had lots of snow.  I would have gladly traded.  Our grounds have been so wet and soggy/muddy my yard is a mess.  I had a gravel drive, since I live in the country, and it has pretty much all washed away.

    Take Care Everyone!

Did anyone end up having an allergic reaction to chemotherapy? I had small ones but last chemotherapy was anaphylactic with stomach acid issues. :-(

Mimi, will be glad to send you a big bucket of snow this week....
our last little snowpile melted yesterday and now we are getting hit again.
Seabeal, would love to see Taos someday....it sounds so beautiful.
The years certainly seem to be flying by...I hope we all have learned to make each day count.
Tpettis, so sorry to hear of your serious complications with chemo.  Will you have to adjust your treatment plan?  I hope you are recovered from that reaction.
If you live in the eastern US, drive carefully or stay home the next few days!  wind, rain, flooding, snow, ice....I don't mind except I have to work until 9 PM Wednesday and that' when it will turn to snow.
    Be safe!

Had my first back injection this morning. The first 8 hours was great with no pain at all (a glimpse of what is possible). After 8 hours the pain came back full force. I know that the shots aren't permanent but if they work they could buy me a little time. If they don't work this may all be a waste of time. Between constant backpain, healing issues with breast reconstruction, and the wonder pill that sucks estrogen dry its no wonder by moods are all over the place like a pin ball machine.

Congrats on those getting further and further out.  I love hearing years added on.  I am 2 1/2 years out and now that my reconstruction is finished and my MO moved me to 6 months I find myself not thinking so much about all of it.

    Hello all!

I'm new here. I was diagnosed 2/13/13, and I had my lumpectomy and SNB on 3/5. My recovery is going great, and there was nothing in my nodes with the preliminary test. I was one of the lucky ones who found the speck, and I like to refer to it, in a routine mammogram. It's been a whirlwind six weeks, but I have to say, my journey would have been much more difficult without the kindness and encouragement of people here! I found this site right after I was diagnosed, and it has been a godsend.

I will be doing radiation down the road and probably Tamoxifen. I have to say that I am thankful the surgery is over and I can cross that hurdle off the list.

This is a great place, and I appreciate everyone here! Thanks for being so amazing, especially to frightened newbies who need your support the most.

    Lynn
