NativeMainer, Noxzema is still around, I can smell it just by thinking about it! I loved it. I think it caused zits tho. to tell you the truth, but it was cool thing to slather, huh?
My mother wouldn't let me wear mascara. Did anyone else put vaseline on their eyelashes?

I never heard of vaseline on eyelashes--but I do remember using baby oil as suntan lotion. How about Starsky & Hutch and The Mod Squad on TV?

Yes Sue, I did put vaseline on my eyelashes!!! I think I remember that this was even recommended in some of the "beauty tips" in magazines. Also think I recall that it would end up "melting" after a few hours and not looking too good

I can remember using Noxzema as a sunburn cream. It felt so good going on and I rarely peeled. I also put vaseline on eyelashes and teeth. I still have my Barbie, Tammy, Pepper, and Ken dolls. One year I also got a James Bond doll loved it. My brothers were always stealing my Barbie dolls for their GI Joe conquests! LOL
Donovan and Mellow Yellow... Twiggy... I was thin enough most of my life but never quite tall enough and never had that waif face. I loved Jefferson Airplane and did not understand the appeal to Janis Joplin until I was much older.
I remember camping trips with my family and my dad teaching us all about nature. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts - we were involved with them for over 20 yrs and I wish that it was still as strong as it used to be. I loved the badges and going on trips with the troop. My parents were both scout leaders for most of my formative years.
I also remember when I first started losing my innocence and security about being safe - the Zodiac killer and Charles Manson did that.

LOLOLOL.......my mom buttoned her sweaters in the back and big skirts and bobby socks.
To this day I use Noxema to wash my face and then use Oil of Olay for moisturizer. It's really good for sunburns too.
Vaseline on teeth? I never did that one...also wondering what for.
I used mascara...I took it to school with me and put it on before school started and took it off after school was over. LOL
Did any of you burn your bras? We threw ours in the pond at our school.
We even had a smoking room in our high school for those who were at least 16 (the legal age to smoke then).

Boy, I was gone from here for just awhile and the posts went crazy. I was reading on page on e about Candies. Yep, I remember those, but how about YoYos and Cherokee's in the shoe department.
Vaseline on the teeth made your lips slide acrossed them when you smiled.

I had a Nehru jacket. Looked good with appleseed beads. I had some "elephant bells" that looked like a crazy tablecloth pattern. Had a suede fringed jacket too. Right on, my neo-hippie sisters!

We never had the Dittos pants, but we had the super-low rise MALE brand, with the 4-button front. Usually worn with the "bodysuit" top that snapped at the crotch. How inconveniently popular those were for a while. Well, that golden era is gone, when people actually tried to hide their butt-cracks.

Was Poindexter the one with thick glasses? What was Midge's boyfriend's name? My Ken doll was one of the really early ones and his hair rubbed off so he had uneven male baldness. Someone mentioned the Battle of New Orleans.....Johnny Horton sang it I think. We used to laugh hysterically at the lines we grabbed up a gator and powdered his behind and when we shot the cannon off the gator lost his mind. The protect the animal societies would certainly not approve of that one. Remember Alan Sherman's Twelve Days of Christmas or maybe it was the 45 Camp Grenada was on , There was this song on the other side Old King Louie that I thought was really funny. YOu went the wrong way old King Louie, You made the population cry. It is amazing how I can remember the words to stupid songs, but for the life of me cannot remember my cell phone number. Was Allen Midge's beau? I liked eating tang out of the jar with a spoon.

The best candied yams I've ever made I made with Tang. Everyone raves over them. You just sprinkle it on the yams and let them bake.

My poor Midge had to date the Ken with the rub off hair, non-bendable legs and all. And to top it off, my older sister's dolls teased Ken unmercifully about his balding head. My siser told me the hair came off because it was eaten by silverfishes! EWwwwwwwww!

Yep, Poor Midge. She was treated like she came from the wrong side of the tracks. I mean the swimsuit she came in didn't even matach! As I recall it was orange bottoms and a pea green sports bra style top.

The vaseline on the teeth was because Miss America candidates did it so they could smile smooth.
I still have my original 1959 Barbie and Ken. And, I have a Julia doll with the original nurses outfit too - remember her? Diahann Carroll played her on TV.
Remember skorts? They were popular around the time of hot pants and super miniskirts and Twiggy. And, we can't forget Go-Go boots, which I never got a pair of and STILL want!
I remember my mom would go to the beauty parlor to get her beehive hairdo and then sleep on a satin pillow all week to keep it in order.
Lava lamps, I loved my lava lamp. I bought one for my kid - somethings never die.

The Beatles when they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. [It was actually three consecutive Sundays in a row, and factoid--"I want to Hold Your Hand" was performed all three times.] For weeks, you could not walk the halls of my school and not hear the girls talking about it, and which Beatle they were in love with. Does anyone remember the fanzines that came out pretty regularly that were just for The Beatles? I had one with pics and song lyrics and the Fab Four's favorite colors, etc. I had an I <heart> Paul plastic lenticular ring that I got from a bubble gum machine.

I loved Paul. My friends and I did a Beatle show in my basement. We lipsinced and had guitars made out of cardboard and painted. Our drummer had on shorts which was why she was the drummer so her bare legs would not show....the rest of us had on long pants and jackets to resemble suits. Mine was left handed since I of course was Paul. We charged 10cents for admission and one of our friends sold jellybabies to throw at us. I still have my beatle wig. I wish I still had my original Barbie.....she is worth some money, Coolbreeze.

Oh wow...so many memories! How about fringed vests, fringed anything, the Ballerina doll (hold the knob on her crown and she'd do turns), Betsy wetsy dolls, skates with keys, party shoes with button hooks, pants not allowed at school (skirts and dressed only), air raid drills at school, click clacks, "cat" glasses (I had light blue and purple ones)....

How about the Crissy doll, you pressed her tummy and pulled her hair out longer, and cranked it back in again. Wanted one, never got it.

Oh, dear, I remember and hated skorts! Ithink I had a Chrissy- I remember a doll whose hair grew and could be cranked back in, with a key I think. . .
I had cat glasses, too and took sooooo much teasing about them but Mom wouldn't let me change the frames until I needed new lenses, seems like that took years.

Actually the doll was Tressy and I still have mine. Her hair still pulls out when you push the button in her belly and I have the key to crank it back in.
At our school skirts had to be no more than 4 inches above the knee. I remember rolling up my skirt at the waistband. No go-go boots but we wore knee hi sox and saddle shoes. I lived my saddle shoes! I always thought that my horrible cartwheels looked better when I wore my saddle shoes. I also loved my penny loafers. They became so much comfortable with wear.
I can also remember, since I grew up near a military base, that you couldn't be on base in anything that showed your midriff or you could be charged with indecent exposure. We lived very close and I can remember so many soldiers preparing for Vietnam. We lived near Ft Benning which is the main training base for the Infantry. When they fired mortars on base, the pictures in our house would shake off the walls.

What about the Monkees and the Munsters and the Addams Family? Can you tell I watched a lot of (black & white) TV? I also loved Honey West - so wanted my own ocelot and wanted to be a detective when I grew up.

My barbie type doll that 'grew' hair, you pulled the ponytail out and to retract the hair, you turned her upside down and slapped her on the back with the heel of your hand. I don't remember her name though. I think I still have mine but the hair stopped working years ago. My sister and I both got one for Christmas. We would play barbies but we never had a ken, we would use my brothers' GI Joes as our barbies dates. We made all kinds of clothing for our barbies out of scrap fabric from our mother and grandmother's sewing basket.

Skirt lengths! I remember a school rule --when we were kneeling the skirt hem had to touch the floor. Not just touch, but touch enough to fold or wrinkle the fabric.
I remember the Addams family, too!
