OMG!!  Talk about going back in time!

    Zero family history!

DX @ 42 first mammo ever DCIS and IDC Left side mastectomy.  BC in three locations. Never would have felt it with a self exam as they were to far back close to the chest wall.

I can tell you as like many others another 8 years would have been to late.   I can tell you I am going to recommend that ALL of my women friends that are 40 go lie to their doctors.  Tell them you are high risk.

Oh and Dr. Love thanks for selling all of us down the river!  I wonder if she has had BC.

Interesting, over 4000 views but only 366 signatures - what's up with that?  Just wondering. (I already signed early on; just watching)

Angela W. age 50 when mammo showed microcalcifications and age 52 when diagnosed by MRI with IDC.  Mammo and ultrasound did not show anything but I had a strong feeling that something was there....  We cannot go backwards in our fight against breast cancer and EARLY DETECTION!  Doesn't 'family history' have to start somewhere??  Someone has to be the first to get it???

I was 44 when I was diagnosed after a yearly mammogram since age 40.  I was not high risk.  I had lumpectomy and lymphnode disection.  Three nodes were positive.  I am now 50.  Had I not had yearly screening, I would either be dead right now or awfully sick.  I have been shaking with anger since I heard the announcement this morning.  My first thought was,  well we are mainly women who have the screening mammograms so who cares?  If this was a man's disease, they would be screening at 18!!

    Hi Patoo,

Why no last names?  Some of us need to protect certain elements of our identity.  This is a public forum.  In some places or with some names, someone could be easily identified in their community.  What if I posted a "worst thing said" about my boss, and Miss Office Noseypants (who has nothing to do but search out people's personal info) prints it out for him.  So much for being a place where I am "safe."  Just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean there isn't someone following you.

    Peace,

    Beth

So here's what I'm wondering. They say by waiting until age 50, there is only one death/ every 1900 cases. That's one too many! But, how much worse is for the others who are diagnosed? Isn't it easier to cure Stage 1 than Stage 4? Why are they willing to pay for 8 rounds of chemo when only 4 rounds, or even no rounds, would have worked ... ... had the breast cancer been diagnosed earlier! I could go on and on. . . . So, let's keep this dialog going! You never know when it might get to the right person and then we'll all be heard!! Let's fight like girls!!!!!!

Alicia DeBlasio - Diagnosed age 42.  No family history.  Had mammo's for several years due to lumpy dense breasts.  Mammo 10 months prior was normal.  I found lump doing a BSE.  Mammo showed suspicious area.  Core Needle Biopsy confirmed Cancer.  MRI found a second lump as well in the same breast.  Stage II

patoo, I have been checking to see how many post and the comments.  It may have added a few of the "views".   I agree about not putting surnames -- public forums and potential neb noses.

I wonder what the men who have BC are thinking, all be it a different scenario for them.   I met a young man who had BC at age 27, with no family history - unusual, but still a fact.

I was diagnosed at 40, but had my baseline at 32.  It's not so much me that I am worried about TODAY, but many others that have not yet been diagnosed and may not for another 10 years!!

Allison M--detection by feeling lump at age 42. Two small tumors, lumpectomy, no positive nodes b/c i caught it early and small. No family history--excellent health, no risk factors.

I was so angry and in disbelief at the latest study released.  I would much rather have a false positive and a biopsy than an undetected "negative" that could turn into aggressive cancer and/or large tumor until a women met the guidelines and got a mammogram. Not all tumors can be felt--I was just lucky.

Early detection is always better--and you can't "detect' what you aren't looking for.

Age 45 here when diagnosed after finding my lump...Dr. didnt want to order a mammo even then because "I was too young to have breast cancer", and "it's probably a caffeine cyst"...this after I indicated I didnt drink coffee ! Oh and...there is absolutely no family history of BC .

41 at dx, stage 2, multifocal, mammo had calcifications already a year earlier at age 40!! I would have been dead at 50!!!

We need screening for women before 40!!!  Not going back to cave man age with this new recommendation!!!

Kim H.  DX Jan 5th 2009 48 years old. No outward signs of breast cancer, no lumps, bumps or discharge or discoloration on breast.  Mammogram showed suspicious area. Biopsy showed proliferated DCIS in right breast. Mastectomy recommended. I opted for bilateral mx.

This is an outrage and a death sentence to so many women.

Marilyn T. dx age 37 ..  had mammogram in Feb (got the all clear)- found lump through BSE in Oct. and mammogram & ultra sound found 2 lumps (the larger lump couldn't be felt). had Bi Mx on Nov 12.

Very aggressive cancer... If I had to wait until I was 50 to get a mammogram, I know I wouldn't be here to keep the appt.
