Shari - it's so wonderful to hear you got a round of golf in! I think it really helps to stay as active as possible during chemo. And yay for still having some hair too! I'm doing good, thanks for asking. I think I mentioned on this thread before that our friend has offered to carry our baby for us...well we're officially trying to get pregnant next month! I'm very hopeful, but also guarded, as we've been trying to start a family for many years with no luck and many detours. The whole thing actually feels pretty surreal since this time last year I was nearing the end of chemo and could barely function!

Arlene - great to hear your update and, heck yes, hope that evil drain comes out soon! Sending you gentle hugs.

Meadow - hi! I missed your post last time. Hope all is going well!

Allydp that is fantastic news. We tried for a baby for 7 years when we got married and nothing happened (they didn't have the same tests as they do now) so we adopted my eldest girl and when she was 9 months of age I found out I was two months pregnant. So two little ones together and never regretted it. They are really good friends and very close. Unfortunately I couldn't have any more but was quite happy with my two girls and love them both to bits and now have two grandsons and two granddaughters. Hope all goes well next month and you soon hold that baby in your arms.

Arlene hope you are feeling better today and the drains are coming out. I had two for my mastectomy and that was one of the sore points for me. Rest as much as you can. Hope your two girls look great when the bandages are off.

Carry on exercising and resting Shari. Not too much longer to go. In your pocket.

Meadow glad to see you back. Missed you.

I was just reflecting on what a great thing this forum is! I thought to myself, "Where else can you go and proudly announce that you have hemorrhoids or fat necrosis and have throngs of people applaud your announcement?" The answer is no where! What a place! What agreat group of people! Thank you all!

Thanks for all your support everyone!

Cocker - thanks for sharing that! I'm so glad you were able to become a mother to two beautiful girls!

Meadow - we've had quite a bit of rain up here in Michigan this year. No real hot days yet either, which is strange because we only had like one 90 degree day last summer too. But that's fine by me with these hot flashes these days lol.

G - glad to hear you got the pic line out!

Eileen - wohoo for hemorrhoids! Chemo gave me that gift too. :)

I agree this is a great group! And I'd love to meet up one day too!

Ally, Just checked back and found your mention of hoped-for baby. My wish for you is for this greatest blessing. Five of my 7 grandchildren were IVF babies and they are such a delight. My daughters endured a lot of procedures to make it happen, but so worth it. You will make a terrific mother. Jan

It has been quite a while since I last checked in. I am finally seeing an end in site with my treatments. I have 2 more rounds of Taxol and Carboplatin! Then I will be focused on recovery so I can set a date for reconstruction in September. I want to be back to work in October if at all possible. So here is my question how do I know the cancer is gone for sure? The MO said it was gone when I had my BMX in January and that the 20 weeks of treatment was just to be sure. What kind of follow up tests have some of you had? What should I be looking for? My cancer was found on a routine mammogram and was never felt by touch. While I am grateful it was found early I'm scared because I was feeling the best that I had in years even though this ugly cancer was growing inside me. Any info would be helpful before I see my MO next week.

    Hugs to all,

    Msmath

Msmath, congrats on being almost done with treatment!! Unfortunately for breast cancer survivors most doctor'sdon't do follow up scans or anything to see if it's gone, unless you have a concerning symptom. They say if you have anything that lasts over two weeks to contact your Onc. That doesn't necessarily mean something bad if you have an ache or pain for more than two weeks but two weeks is a general rule of thumb. Just focus on finishing treatment right now. Glad to hear from you! XOXO!

Msmath, Congrats on surviving chemo! I have similar concerns. My Onc told me exactly the same thing after my post-surgical MRI and CT scans were clear. My last chemo is this Thursday, and I have to say the fear is growing. I am hoping radiation will provide me with more peace of mind, but I'm not even sure I will be offered it yet.

Msmath and littleblue flowers - Completing treatment is a very confusing time.  I remember being so grateful, but also feeling so helpless.  It was like I wasn't doing anything to continue to fight this ugly beast.  The thing that helped me the most was time.  With time, I was gradually able to put the wandering thoughts that we all have to the back of my mind.  As I approach 5 years since diagnosis very soon, I would be lying if I said I never think about breast cancer anymore.  BUT, I don't immediately go to that dark place with every new ache and pain.  I give it the two week rule that Luvmydobies talked about.  In the beginning, that's difficult.  So just allow yourself to ask lots of questions of your MO.  When in doubt, ask.  And don't hesitate to post here too.  We're all here for each other!  Although I don't post often, I check in to keep tabs on everyone :)

    Hugs,

    Kathy

Ally you have a wonderful friend to do this for you. One of the girls at work couldn't get pregnant because of endometriosis and a friend carried her baby for her. It was a wonderful time when she delivered her baby boy. Are you able to produce your own eggs still or will you use one of your friends. Have you also gone down the IVF track. Jan is right IVF have helped so many ladies to fulfil their dreams This is wonderful news for you and I hope all goes well.

AL no, there are no hang ups on here. You and your Kathy have gone through the same things as us so we feel comfortable talking about anything on here and we know that you and the other ladies "get it". Thanks for your understanding but yea haemorrhoids and fat necrosis are great compared to what it could be.

MsMath and Littleblue so glad you are both nearly at the end of treatment. We all have had the same fears about recurrence, I can hardly type that word I hate it so much, but I think putting your faith and trust in your doctors and oncologists and always using the two week rule is the way to go. Kathy is right, time will ease those fears, you will still have them but they gradually ease as time goes on. I never had a lump either it was just found on my yearly routine mammo so on my down days I wonder if anything is sill growing because like you I felt so well when it was found. Try to take one day at a time and try not to worry, easier said than done I know but it does get easier. Doesn't seem fair that we went through all the treatment and still have the worries. Talking to the ladies on here will help if you are troubled and somehow they always make me feel better.

Thank you ladies, it helps to put the fear in writing for sure with people who understand. Don't know what I'd do without you all 😊
