Hey Chickies -
I got my BRCA results back today (at least by phone call, nothing in writing), but anyway NO MUTATIONS. So I have no idea what caused my 9.7 cm tumor. Hmmm. It's a mystery. Glad to know I don't haven any known mutations though.
Would you pay $370 to find that out? I did.

I think I would, Shelley, you have kids and they would need to know. HUGS!! So glad you are clear!

Funny story about that, well not so funny. When the company who does the genetic testing (Myriad labs, they own the genes) called to tell me my insurance had been approved and what my copay was, I almost sh*t a brick. $680. I said no thanks, I was expecting it to be about half that, and anyway the test will probably be negative. The gal told me "well we are trying a new pilot program" with a lower price and payment plan...anyhow, she offered $375 instead, which I said I could do. Wonder what the lowest price she would have gone was? I guess it always pays to haggle! Our genes for sale...

You go Shel!!

If you have insurance it should be for free...where is all the $$$$?0
-
GrannyD, the cost of the test is somewhere between $3000-4000. Insurance pays 80% just like all other procedures, so my 20% is that $680 number. I guess they figured out that is a lot of money to pay out of pocket for most people. It would be great if insurance covered it all, and if I had gotten it done last year, it would have paid 100%, since I had already met my out of pocket maximum. This year I have only met my deductable, not even close the the out of pocket max. I have a new rad onc who is seeing me for followup who suggested I have the test.0

I dont really care what the cost is it should be covered.I worked for one of the largest Insurance Co.in the world and this is such a rip off....this is really a sore spot for me so if i sound harsh its not at you.......what happens to those who dont have the $$$$$ or dont even have the insurance????? and then bargaining.....what are we cattle??????end of rant.
im on my way to PA tonite.goin for a month .my GD is havin baby #2 and im IT to help out.Im takin my puter sooo i will be on..i should be soooo happy but when i see this i get sooo angry...lump this with komen, pinktober,ACA and i can scream.....better save the screamin for the 18month old who is dennis the menace.hugggggs K

Good points GrannyD. I thought the bargaining was a little strange, too. Have a great time in PA!!

Shelly, I think I paid 148.00 for my test. It was almost the end of last year and a rep from the company called and assured me that if we went into the new year they wouldn't charge me the deductible but only 148. As it turned out the test was completed on Dec 30 so it was in the fiscal year and my deductible was met but they only charged me what they quoted!!!

My son is going to State Band competition. So proud of him, Sherry he is coming your way, playing at the Alamo Dome Tuesday next week. Not going to be able to go, I am so put out, have to work and messed up my knee. Got a cortizone shot and doing PT hopefully will not have to do an MRI when I see the Dr. again at the end of the month.

Shelley - got the PM and responded. Looking forward to meeting you soon.
GrannyD - my prayers are with you too and lots of them. New babies are a very noisy blessing at times. Get some earplugs for those dogs, you need your rest. I took naps when my newest GS took naps when I was there to take care of DD#1 and that set of grandchildren last week.
