tashalobo - do you know if it's ER, PR or HER2 positive or negative.  Those will determine your treatments to some extent.

tashalobo, I am sorry you are having to go through this, but you have found the best place for support and information. Once you get a good oncologist, get a plan in place, it will get better. If your tumor is ER positive, and your nodes are clear, ask you oncologist about getting the OncoType DX test done on the tissue. It will give you a score from 0 to 100, that will tell what your chance of recurrence is and if you need chemo. The lower the number, the better. My score was 8, so my oncologist said chemo was not needed. Only your oncologist can order that test, and it takes a few weeks to get results. Also, the breast pain and tenderness will last for a while. Mine was sore and stiff for at least 2 months, and then after radiation, it was tender and stiff for a few months as well. It will heal. Physical therapy helped. Since I didn't have chemo, I can' t help you there, but I can tell you radiation is not bad. You do get a burn, but if you take care of your skin, as they tell you to, it will be minimal. After radiation, there may be drug treatments, and the side effects are different for everyone, but not unmanageable. You will do great, and realize you are stronger than you think. Hang in there. Use this website for support. We're all in the same boat. Wishing you luck and sending you {{{HUGS}}}.

    Hi Everyone,

My internet has been out at home (fixed by next Friday? Yikes!) and I'm so busy at work there is not much time to goof off.

Glad to see those who have been through recent surgeries are starting to feel better. It's such a roller coaster of treatments and recoveries, argh. Hugs!

I had my quarterly onc and rad onc appointments this week. All is well. The rad onc suggested a chest x-ray, CA 27-29 and sent off a BRCA test after I asked about getting a scan. We had that discussion on this board a couple of weeks ago. I didn't ask my onc because I already know his opinion (no symptoms, no scan), but the rad onc was game (sort of). At least she listened to my concerns after I reminded her about my 10 cm tumor. She suggested the alternatives tests, but didn't see need for a CT or PET unless something in these preliminary test come back with concerning results. The chest x-ray was clear and I'm waiting on the blood test results. If it comes back clean then I think I will sleep better at least for awhile. I'm already expecting a negative genetic test with no strong family history.

Also, just thought I would share that Quest Diagnostics has a great patient information area on their website. I found it while looking up info on the CA27-29 test. Here is the link:

     http://www.questdiagnostics.com/hcp/intguide/jsp/showintguidepage.jsp?fn=CF_Breast_Cancer.htm

It has a good explanation about what each test is for and the normal ranges. I found it very helpful.

    Have a great weekend!!

Cath - Thank You!  We all need to hear words of encouragement from time to time and you have provided that to so many of us.  Dec. is getting close so it won't be too much longer before the herceptin will end and you can get rid of the port.  {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} to you too.

amyjo - thanks!  I hope you get to go someplace fun - then tell us all about it!  At the moment I am living vicariously!  Still waiting on end of Herceptin and exchange surgery, then DH and I will go on a trip somewhere relaxing.  He has worked so hard and been so good to me through all this - he is tired too and needs a vacation.

O.K., so not healing well after my ooph, 2 weeks ago now.The right side incision and the lower one are infected and there is suture sticking out all 4 incisions. The lower one is also not closed all the way yet, and still seeping. WTH?? Who closed me, the janitor? Not very happy. Now I'm on antibiotics, and it seems a little better today, but geez, what a circus. Still can't wear anything but loose sweat pants, it's so sore. Oh well, it will heal eventually. Can't wait to put this behind me.
