omaz - thanks! I am hopeful anyway, my track record in the OR is not good, so I think I am due, right?

Good luck from me, too. PET tomorrow? Is that to help with the surgery or just to evaluate?
I got some bloodwork back today and my WBCs are still low a year after chemo. My cholesterol is up to 240 (thanks arimidex), but vit D was in the 50s, so that is good.
Got my hips x-rayed so will see if my pain is just from exercising or not. Fun, fun.

shelley - Thanks for the good wishes. I was having a PET tomorow that was requested by my MO at end of Herceptin to determine efficacy of port removal. All previous scans have been unclear accross the chest area because of the extensive surgery I have had. We were trying to get this one in before Friday because this is the longest time since I have had a surgery (July). Wouldn't you know I got a call late this afternoon that my insurance could not complete the authorization by the deadline to order the meds for the PET. They were afraid to put me in a situation where I might have an unexpected out-of-pocket expense, so we cancelled it. We will revisit int in a few months. The good news is that I immediately had a cup of coffee - I hate the no caffeine restrictions for the PET. I saw my BS last week and he thinks I should keep my port indefinitely, so...
Were your WBC's the only low item? Is your doc concerned or thinking it will just take some time to come back up? I am on Femara (everything hurts - I am having a mini Femara vacation for surgery) and am glad I was already on a statin for high cholesterol from hyst/ooph 10 years ago. Mine got up to 260 before the statin! Your Vit D is great!

Hey SpecialK,
Well I'm way behind in hoping your exchange went well. By now I hope you are snoozing in a nice drug induced slumber and dreaming about the new you. Sorry about your PET delay. I hope they are not trying to get out of it altogether...at least you can have some decent coffee when you get home. I love coffee, too, one thing I refuse to give up.
The weird thing about the WBC count is that they have not recovered (3.5) fully, but I feel great. They have been as low as 2.7 (so they are better). We are not really sure if there is a problem or not. I haven't been sick at all, but I still worry a little about why it is taking so long to return to pre-chemo levels. Everything else looks good, so I have to assume all is well.

Shelly I have always had kinda low WBC. I did alot of research and starting taking a chinese herb called astragalus and also zinc. I started taking (astragalus) one a day and in 6 months went from 3.6 to 4.2 I then started taking two a day and in one month went from 4.2 to 4.72. I have finally quit having fever blister breakouts which is how I can judge my immune system. MO is OK with me taking it. the bummer is I have to stop taking it two weeks before my BMX, but at least I can get back on it afterwards.
Special K hope all is going well with your exchange.

Thanks for the info Sherryc, I will definitely check it out. When is your surgery?

Hi all - thanks for the good wishes! I am home and doing OK. PS did a bit of excavation of scar tissue on the left so I have a drain, but it is not producing much so it will come out early. I am allergic to the binder they put me in so I do have a rash all over my midsection. This always seems to happen, so it is usual. I was allowed to shower with water on my back only, put on cortisone cream and my own sports bra. I am on Cipro for an antibiotic and I was worried about being allergic to it as well - called the pharmacist to check because I am allergic to Levaquin and it is same drug family as Cipro. She said go ahead and take it and keep an eye out. I decided to do that but also took 2 Benadryl and no pain meds. Took a nice nap and had a snack. Not much of an appetite though. All in all, things are OK - new foobs look pretty good too!

I hate rashes! I would rather have pain than itch. This seems to be getting somewhat worse - and why does this always happen on the weekend?
Thanks for the welcome home!

SpecialK - Benedryl spray for the itch? I use it for mosquito bites and it works well.0
-
omaz - thanks, I have some Benadryl cream that I forgot I had. I did put some prescription cortisone on but it is not really helping.
0 -
SpecialK - I have found that the cortisone doesn't help with the itch as much as the benedryl spray.0
-
I will switch to the Benadryl and see if it is better. I took a nap which was nice!

{{SpecialK}} Sorry I was absent. Had a mandatory conference over the weekend. Sending gentle hugs!
