I got my port 2 weeks ago. My surgeon does not want me to do any heavy lifting, raise my arm up high or physical therapy  for another week. When did you get yours? Are you sure it's OK to lift 25lbs? Have you checked with your port doctor?

Yes I still feel mine. It's sitting right on top of a muscle. I do expect some discomfort to continue but it is a lot better than a week ago.

Ginger - try searching for "abbreviations for newbies".  I never did find DP on the list so not sure what that is referring to.

connie-  It took me a while to figure out where to write more DX.  Just click home tab, edit profile, scroll all the way to the bottom and enter anything in the signature box.  Gotta run or I will be late for my first rads.  SO not looking forward to this!

DP stands for "Darn Partner" depending on what mood I'm in.  And we can't cuss on here so use your imaginations for the other "D" word I am thinking of.Smile  Then again for you people who have such sweeties I guess it could mean "Dear Partner".  My "P" is working at earning a "Dear".

Hi ladies, I've been missing in action for a couple of days. I'm back in the hospital again. My fever was still hitting me off and on, so when I went for my onc appt yesterday  morning, he wanted to readmit me, do more tests, we've got a new infectious disease doc who's lots better than the last one, so hopefully they can figure this out once and for all. I'm better today, no fever. So  maybe the new drugs are working.

Welcome to the new ladies. Like the others, I'm sorry you have to be here but it is a great place for support and information.

Ladyinbama, glad they're able to figure out what is making the temp go up. Hopefully you'll be home soon.

She is not wasting anytime. I am still freaked out , but knowing all of you are getting thru this  is a BIG HELP!!! HUGS TO ALL!!!   Cat

Welcome to all the new people, sorry you have to join our ranks, but this is a great place for information, encouragement and support.  It has taken me over an hour to catch up on the last day! Everyone is so busy and so much going on.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  I am not like Barbara, who remembers everything and everyone, so I wont even try to list all your names.

I had my port in about 6 weeks ago. It is placed in my upper left arm.  Last night was the first time I noticed that I could not feel it whenever I moved my arm.  I even laid on that side and it did not hurt. I did lift my granddaughter a little last week and it was a little uncomfortable, but it did not hurt. (She is 5 and weights maybe 40 lbs. and yes she it tiny for a 5 year old.)

Some good news --- I went to the physical therapist and I have almost complete range of motion in both arms!  Surgery was 9/2/10, Bmx and node dissection on right and sentinel node on the left. All those exercises have paid off.  Now were are on to core strengthening.  Hello big red ball.

I too have had those days when I did not want to do anymore or go to another dr., but did it anyway and found out my fear of going was worse than what actually happened.  Just take it one day or one appointment or one test at a time and like Jag says, just breathe.

Jag - glad your son is home and extra prayers for both of you.

Elaine - extra hugs for you.  Keep us updated on what is going on with you.

Good luck Jalsmama.  I will be thinking of you.  Hope all goes well.

I have a question for those who have finished chemo.  They had me stop after 7 taxol due to neuropathy which is fine but I have not had a period for 4 months and was told I was in menaupause (hot flashes and all)  This morning I started bleeding.  What is going on  Does this mean that I am going to start back with monthy periods or is it something I should call my Onc. about?  Any insight would be great.  Thank you.

Hey JenC - I was just reading about that last night since I got my FSH/LH test results back which show I am post-menopausal right now but at 43, chemopause can end at any time. Although my hormone tests show I'm in menopause, it's no guarantee. The younger you are, the more likely your period will return and there is no timetable. The only thing I read that was helpful was that if you are on tamoxifen and start bleeding when you haven't been, you need to see the doc because of the possibility of uterine cancer. Since your tumor is ER- you might not go on tamoxifen anyway. I would assume it is your period, but I would let your Onc know at your next visit. How's the neuropathy?

By the way, after seeing my BS this morning, I officially get DEPORTED on 10/28!  Tongue out

Shelly - congratulations on the soon to be deported thing:)  A little sore today but really nothing.  I went shopping after I had it out and am at work today.  I am 37 so it is probably just the periods comming back.  I see my Onc in december and my OB in NOvember so I will talk with my OB about it to, just to be safe.  No tamoxifen for me.  Radiation starts next month I think.  I have my simulation next monday so we will see when I start 28 rounds and hopefully done by christmas.

Well I go at 1:00 today for first TC and H I'm actually ready to get this over with.  I got a really cute wig this weekend, made kids go with me to memorize what they had and try to get cheaper on the internet but the price was ok and the shop owner (BC survivor for many years) was so nice I went ahead and got it.  It is the hair I always want my hair to be so I will perhaps mourn my wig?  But it also felt a little hot so prob glad to be back to hair by summer...

I am so happy there is a place to come just to post something random in our minds or to ask a question.  Just sorry there are so many of us here!!

Wow!  Thanks to Grannydukes we have our "cussing" back.  Now she's a Moderator I can cope with.

Ok world, get ready for it.  You can have your "DEAR PARTNERS", I will cope with my DAMN PARTNER, and he knows everything I say about him.  As long as I continue to take care of "him" he doesn't care what I say about him.

I am not two-faced!  Thank you my beloved sista Granny for allowing me to post that.  (I just hope the mods don't delete me!)Wink

Well, I just got back from my post-op followup with the BS, DID NOT get clear margins damn it! Im so upset right now. So its back into surgery for me on oct 28th.BS did say that during surgery, something didnt feel right below where the cancer was, so he took extra, thank god he did, because that was also cancer.

Saw the med Onc also and found out I will be on TCH, TCx6 and H for a year after, then tamoxifin for 5 years after that.  So as soon as I finally get clear margins, I'll have a port placed and start the chemo within a few weeks. Gotta straighten out some insurance stuff, as I have none, and the med onc does not take the charity care, trying to be put on disability so I can get medicaid. What a friggin nightmare this has all been.

For some reason, I just knew there was still cancer inside me.... I didnt get that sigh of relief I hear some of you mention after surgery.

I swear, If my arm and breast werent still sore from the surgery last week, I would be looking for stuff to punch right now.

Sweet - have you had an MRI or did your doc order an MRI to be done before you have the 2nd lumpectomy?   Same thing happened to me - I had excisional biopsy (which is same as a lumpectomy because they couldn't do needle biopsy on me) and margins were not clear.  Then he ordered MRI.  MRI showed a second suspicious area that mammo & ultrasound had missed.  I finally decided on mastectomy for several reasons but one because they couldn't guarantee clear margins a 2nd time in a lumpec.  Not to worry you - but ask about MRI if you haven't had that already in the process.

Ah Kristy, really sorry to hear that!  You will be in good company with the TCH, we discuss all kinds of things on the thread called

Good luck with disability, insurance.  So many things to deal with, take care.

    Janetinvirginia,

Yes, I had an MRI then an MRI guided biopsy of a second area that was suspitious before the partial mast. That was clean. There is just 1 area close to the skin that wasnt clean. This surgery will be same day, in and out.  But still, another surgery all the same. I was just really hoping to get moving on this, want the port placed and chemo started. I want this over with.
