Sweet - Is this your first TCH? I can't remember. I gained 10 pounds through chemo, mostly in my abdomen. Doesn't look very good!0
-
Hang in there Cathy! Glad the reduced dose is helping. Hugs!

Checking in treatment going well. I just need to pick up on working out
Wishing everyone peace and restful holiday season. We have been through a lot lately.

Folks rememer that some of the weight gain is fluid. Once chemo is over we'll get it off. We know what we have to do. Granted I know it can take me 6 months of hard work to get rid of 6lbs but the last 10 lbs are always the hardest.
2 days ago my stomach was so bloated I swear it stuck out further than my TE foobs. I've lost quite a bit of it today. I feel so much better.

Omaz- this will be my secont TCH, I get Herceptin weekly in between.

lago- I noticed when I wear socks I have really bad indents when I take them off, Im gonna ask the onco today about that....
Just remembered..... Gotta load up on the water today....
0 -
Yup sweetaerobabe you have edema (swelling). I bet when you press on your leg it takes a couple of seconds for the indent to go away. Yes your onc should know. Mine does but they aren't giving me anything for it. Some do give diuretics but I hear for most it really doesn't reduce the fluid from Taxotere.0

18 degrees and snow flurries in Alabama. Woo hoo!!! Gonna get a pillow and a comforter and spend the day chillin'.

Ah man snow in Alabama??? We had snow in the desert a couple years ago at Christmas time, it was beautiful and magical!

I'll look for the Revlon nail treatment; thanks for the tip!!
Cathy - glad the reduced dose is easier on you. Can you take something for the achiness?? Even some ibuprofen or naproxen (Aleve) might help. I've found that as I get a little more active each day, I'm sore the next day but in that "good" type of way. Just feeling old and fat, and can't do anything to lose some weight quickly since the radiation peeps want me to stay the same in order for my dots to line up.
My hair has started to grow back in the eensy teensy-est way; little tiny WHITE hairs are coming in and feel like baby downy hair. Hopefully there's some of my natural color coming behind it!!
Happy Monday !!!

Just got back from the onco, he said retaining some water, but not enough to worry.
I wore the wig today, was so self conscious.... its long, like my hair used to be, but I think it defiantly needs to be cut. Its a lace front, and to me, it just "looks" like a wig, so I got a cute paperboy type cap to put on and it looks really cute..... But my damn boyfriend kept playing with it, fixing it for me. I know he is helping, but it just made me feel like everyone knew.
How do those do it going back and forth between wigs? I wouldn't stop at my local store for bread because they saw me last with my short haircut. I felt like even the Dr wanted (but didn't) say anything about my hair. Why do we (I) care so much about what people are thinking? I hate this!!!

Oh BTW, the weight issue is still climbing.... Dr said " your putting on some weight" Like I didnt see that and about blow my top when I got on the scale!!!!
I have GOT to find a way to keep it down. Next week I will be sick from TX and will drop about 5 pounds, but then as soon as Im feeling better and taste buds start working again, I eat. My hip gives me problems, so its hard to walk, I mentioned this to the onco, but wont give me percocets because I mentioned the hip pain along with the Neulasta pain, and he said percocet doesnt work well with the nulasta pain. Has a bone scan done right after DX and it was clean, so who knows what the pain is.... just something else to add to the list I guess.

Sweet - For better or worse I haven't worn my wig(s). I just wear a ball cap around and when people come over I don't wear anything. I still have some wisps of hair, a light dusting but my daughter calls me a baby eaglet. I thought I would wear my wig to the xmax party this weekend but decided I would just wear my cap. I feel comfortable, I used to wear it before and it is the way it is.0

I LOVED how it looked, It looked like ME, with highlights and a hat on. my BF took pics and I may end up using one of them as my avatar... I guess once it gets trimmed it wont feel so heavy.... and I do have another one on the way, I needed to exchange it for color, that one is shorter but still kinda long, and has whispy bangs and no lace front, maybe I will like that one better. I have been mostly going out with a scarf on, but so afraid of running into people I know.... who dont know.... and I dont feel like telling. At least Im done my shopping now.... Out of money, and I'll be sick next week anyway. Time to hibernate.

I wear scarves. The first time I will wear a wig will be this weekend. It's my neice's Bat Mitzvah. I feel it's her day and therefore people don't need to think about the woman with the scarf.
But otherwise I am so over it. I live in a high-rise. Initially people gave me double takes because many knew me as "the lady with the really nice hair." Now they are going to know me as the lady with the really big eyes and awesome smile. ;-)
No one has dared to ask questions. Remember is someone asks you if you are being treated for cancer you can always ask them if they are being treated for their sexual dysfunction. ;-)

Lago - LOL! wish I had the nerve to say that!0

I also consider saying "No I shaved my head to protest female genital mutilation in the Middle East, African and parts of Asia". As one women stated here, talk of genital mutilations is always a good conversation ender ;-)0
-
I wouldn't have the guts to say anything other than, "yes, but Im ok".
I tend to keep to myself, and hate running into "old friends" I usually duck into an isle and pretend I didnt see them.

Sweet - I have been working from home since July but am planning to go back into the office starting in Jan. Not sure how that is going to go. Everyone there knows what is going on so hopefully I won't have to spend a lot of time talking about it. I can certainly see ducking to another isle!. Really discussing things here is best for me because I feel like you all understand completely.0
-
Omaz- I know exactly.... I ONLY communicate here, except for my boyfriend and daughter of course... I do not participate in the "group" meetings the cancer center offers.
I really hope you have a smooth transition back to work.... Im sure there will be a big fuss at first, just because they havent seen you for so long. But then things will calm down.
I was registered to start college last fall, and pulled out because I knew I was having surgery and couldnt miss so much time from school (due to grants) and figured I would try again in the spring.... Now Im seeing that I have only JUST lost my hair, and I would need to wear a wig everyday if I went back to school. Now Im thinking of putting it off again or see if a PELL grant covers online school. My boyfriend took advantage of the tuition wavers from unemployment, where I qualify for a full grant, and he said it is mostly young kids in the academic classes.... Not what I feel like dealing with...

Sweetie, I am pretty sure the Pell grant covers online classes.

Ladies you brought a smile to my face . I have been depressed all day as I keep wiping hair off my PJ's. Rolled my head and pj a couple of times. Today was two weeks since treatment. Today was the first noticeable shedding. I have said all a long I would get it shaved, now I just keep waiting. Has anyone else had soreness around the crown of you skull? I told someone the other day I know it is the dying hair follicles. Although I've not seen anyone else mention it. I'm glad life is kinda of getting back to some kind of normal for alot of you ladies. Good warm dreams to all. Here in the mountains of NC we will be 9 overnight......... Diane

I'm like Lago--I wear scarves all the time. Everyone knows I have cancer, and the wigs felt so fake, and they were uncomfortable. This is who I am and how I look for now. I was a bit self-conscious at first, but now I am so used to scarves I hardly even think about it. Some people have kindly asked me if I was going through chemo, and they usually know someone who also lost their hair. I appreciate those that have the nerve to ask, instead of staring and wondering!
My hair is coming back (fell out back in June when I was on A/C), and is very soft and downy feeling. Was pure white at first, but now it's getting a little color. My eyelashes just came back in the last 2 weeks--I'm so happy I can wear mascara again! That was harder for me than the hair!
I do feel for you gals just going through it. It is tough at first. Try not to worry about what others think though. Just do what feels best for you. We are beautiful with or without hair and eyelashes!!

Cathy--I was glad to hear the reduced dose is working for you!

Oh goodness, I'm having the debates about wigs too. I finally have one that is "okay" - it looks close to my pre-chemo hair but is not a high-quality wig, so it's a bit stiff. I have another very nice wig, hair feels real, but it's way too blonde and a shorter cut. I wear them more for other people, because I could really just go without, but my kids (especially my daughter) say "are you going to put something on your head?" when we leave the house together. I don't want them to be uncomfortable. But I do find the wig hot after awhile. When I take walks around the 'hood, I just put on a hat or scarf. If I'm just driving the kids to school, no wig, just hat, scarf, or even put up the hoodie on my sweatshirt. I am just starting to see eensy tiny bits of new hair, it is all white, and my hair typically grows a bit slowly. We shall see. So far, I've never had anyone say a peep regardless of what I'm wearing (unless it's someone I know, and then I usually say some silly joke to put everyone at ease).
Okay, I went to 11 (YES, ELEVEN!) stores today, (Avenue, JCPenney, Walmart, Beauty Experience (for fake eyelashes ya'all), Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, TJ Maxx, Home Depot, Lowes, Al's (local sporting goods store), True Value Hardware, mostly returning stuff we bought for the kitchen and some clothes I bought without trying on at the store (always a bad idea). It was a 5-hour adventure and I am pooped. BUT, it's a good benchmark to know what I'm capable of as I prepare to go back to work on Jan 3rd.
Off to the shower, and jammies for the night!

MrsNice - 11 stores? That was quite a workout! You should sleep like a log. I go back to work tthe 3rd too.0

Hi diane, Yes, my head is hurting. I have my second TCH in the morning. I was day 16 I believe when I started loosing it and cant bring myself to shave it, I cut and donated my hair before chemo. So, I deal with the handfulls of hair especially in the shower (I guess the hot water loosens it up more) I keep saying Im gonna shave it, but never do. I probably should, because I cant stand to look at myself.... I LOOK sick now, the top and front is so thin and grey.... I have thin, but decent coverage in the back so I "could" just wear a hat but Im too afraid it will blow off.
BTW, it's freezing here in NJ as well. I hate it.

My head hurt when I was losing my hair. WHen it started to come out in clumps I went into the backyard, we are on very private acrage here, and just strated pulling it out. I let it float away for the birds to use in their nests. It came out very easliy then and I felt sort of free.
Now I am waiting for it to come back.

dianemoe I did cut my hair short the day it started to fall out. I had a lot of hair that was almost shoulder length. I didn't want to deal with the mess… but even short it was messy. I pretty much vacuumed my bathroom and pillow every day for a few weeks. ;-) I never did the shave. I still have the really bad comb over giving me that bald transvestite look. Seriously you probably will look better bald. I haven't done it because there is still a little hair that sticks out from my scarves… and my husband seems to be fascinated with the hair loss process. I am still shedding a bit. I had tx4 last week.
I also found a lint roller very useful. Yes there were times that I actually used it on my head. There was on day that was so windy in Chicago that I lost a ton of hair during my 1 hour power walk with a friend. We cracked up about it. My feeling, at least I didn't have to vacuum it up.
Remember the hair eventually will come back. Get a good wig and put on your makeup. We tend to forget that our best features are in our face not our hair.

I didn't shave my head just but cut my hair short at the beginning and have the bad comb over too. My daughter says I look like a baby eaglet with tufts sticking out here and there. I must say though that I think I see some new growth in the back, I am not sure because between the mirrors and my reading glasses I couldn't see real close but it looks different to me in a good way!0
