I asked my Onc about dairy, and nutrition, was told to avoid soy, but the dairy was ok. was also told I could take suplements, but not clear which ones. I read some are not good during active treatment.

Not alot of clear answers, so I will worry about getting through treatment frist. I also asked the Sex question..... big mistake.... Im off now to look for a thread on that subject..... unless you ladys want to chime in here if your dr's think it is safe to do so while being treated WITHOUT using a condom.  I would think by the 3rd week after, and just before the next would be fine.

Hi all!  Its not so bad weather wise out today.  I'm wondering if anyone has had genetesting done for BRCA?  If so are you the first person in your family to get it done.  I am and have told my sister that she only needs to be tested for BRAC2 since I tested positive for that not 1.  My doctor and the lab told her the same thing.  But her doctor tells her no.  Has anyone come across this kind of stuff.  I hate for her to do both because its a very expensive test.  I know she scared outa her wits right now.  Im the second sister to have bc, plus it runs in the family. So she may just be trying to cover all areas so she can moniter herself even closer now.  Well Im off to do some last minute christmas sewing.  I decieded to do try sewing this year instead of baking.  So far so good.  Plus the clean up is so much better, lol.  Good night all  Paula

Paula I was tested and I am the first in my family that I know of with bc.  Luckily I was negative. My insurance covered it.  Has your sisiter checked with her insurance to see if they would cover it with two sisters having bc?

Ya her insurance will cover the testing.  When I went to do my gene testing, the doctor told me that I was getting the full BRCA testing, 1&2.  She had told me to have my sister wait until I had gotten my results before she had hers done.  This way she doesnt have to pay extra for testing that doesnt need done.  Since Im not BRCA1 she doesnt need that done.  But I am BRCA2 so this is the testing she needs done.  My insurance paid for 80% of my testing.  I dont know how much her insurance will cover.  I understand she needs tested, but I dont want her to have expensive testing done if its not the way to go.  This is why I told her what my doc had said.  She just needs BRCA2 done. I just dont know how to get her to understand that I didnt test positive for BRCA! so she wont either.  And my mom says Im the stubborn one, lol.  Well myabe she will finally understand once I can talk with her some more.

Well, I guess I was the one in a million to have their hair "thin" out during rads. The rad nurse said it happens sometimes. The shower drain kept getting clogged because of it. It apparently had something to do with the thyroid function during the time I was having the sessions. UGH. My hairdresser gave me brown spray to cover some of the thinning. Surprised

samsue - You are not alone. My hair also started thinning with the rads.  I had 12 treatments done on my T4 - T11 spine.  And everyone said it would not affect my hair, but it did.  I will have 30-40 treatments in late Jan or early Feb so if the thinning continues I will be bald before I am done.

redninrah - do call your onco now.  It is better know for sure than to worry about what it could be.  I learned the hard way to let my doctor know everything that is going on, not matter how insignificant or silly I thought it was.

I have been out for a few days die to faulty internet connection.  There are more people at my house with lots of gadgets that they are trying to connect to the internet than my router can handle at one time.  Hope everyone has a merry Christmas and stays warm and well.

Paula66, I had the testing done and was negative for both, but I was told my sisters could be positive so either they have to test or the best thing is for our mother to test.  If she is negative there is no chance she passed the gene to us (although could come from fathers side, but mom actually had bc so that is the side they are worried about).  For me the test consisted of swiching mouthwash around and spitting it out.  So no biggie.  It took about 10 days to hear results.

I'm with BarbaraA.  I get so very tired and I have started getting these stupid hiccups again.  So I am off to take the magic mouthwash and then to bed.

BarbaraA-  Could you be getting tired early because you have logged how many thousands of miles on airlplanes in the past two weeks?  Sleep tight!

Amyjo-   I hope your sweet family isn't wearing you out.  I wonder if that old trick of drinking water upside down from a glass might cure your hiccups?  Can't hurt to try. Hope they leave soon.

My son and I got our Christmas tree yesterday.  We always wait until the last week when the prices drop and the trees get bigger!  It smells wonderful in our living room.  My son is so excited about Christmas.  He's 12 and this is the first year he is more excited about giving things than getting them, warms my heart.

Good idea lago, take a nap. I may try that today. DM, you could be right about that. It has been a pretty hectic 4th quarter @work. We are generally very slow in Q3 and 4 but not this year. I finished rads 7/9 and have been on the road every week except 2 since then. Yikes.

DM, love seeing a kid enjoy Christmas. Nothing is better.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this thread although several members have helped me tremendously on a separate post in recent weeks. I was diagnosed with BC on 11/29/10 and spent the first couple of weeks completely freaked out. All the waiting is the worst and now it's settling down. I took the BRCA test which came back negative yesterday and now I'm scheduled for surgery on 1/7 for a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Several members have been helping me understand the possible treatment for triple positive and I've been reading the TCH thread (at least I know what that is now-thanks Elaineg, Omaz and Drim!). So, I'm joining you all pretty late in the year but following your progress has already helped me to feel much better and like this is somehow manageable...thanks everyone! Happy Holidays
