Ladies, ladies ladies...You make my day...I have two wigs, one I wore just to see if anyone noticed. They didn't, not even my Mother. That was when I noticed my skull being sore. I feel as though I could be comfortable wearing one to the store if the soreness goes away. I have no scarves, not sure I could tie it anyway. I received one of the head pieces from gailafund.org. The other from France Luxe I have gotten a message back from but not the actual headscarf.  I love the idea of going outside and letting the hair blow away for the critters. It is 3 here the morning I sure hope all the squirrels and birds have a happy warm nest to stay in. Go to onc tomorrow for more blood work last week hemoglobin was good white blood count low. Have my second treatment Monday. I think I'll pass on Christmas I probably won't want the smell of food in the house. If I haven't said it before I'm hoping all you ladies have a wonderful holiday. We will be back and even better....... Diane

I keep telling everyone that I look like the "old" dancing man from the Great Adventures commericals without the wig.  I can't bring myself to shave the head either, the wispy comb-over seems to suit me right now.  My head hurt until recently.  It felt like the hair was matted down in the wrong direction-very strange feeling.

I'm stressing over the  Christmas routine.  I have chemo treatment #3 next Tuesday and I find that I'm exhausted and nauseous on the Wed, Thurs & Fri following treatment.  DH and I are the ones without kids so we do the traveling to everyones houses PLUS he plays Santa on Christmas Eve; I don't want to screw that up for 15 kids.  I know everyone says they "will understand" if we can't make it but it's just one more "side effect".

Hi Guys... Im here at my second TCH treatment. I was finally approved for medicaid so I will be getting treatments at the Dr's office soon, which I hope is faster. I had an 8:00am appointment, and they just got my actual chemo started at 12:00noon.

Also, I just found out, my son is getting married next Tuesday. He is married a wonderful girl from Thailand whom I adore.... problem is, they cant just get married at the local municipal bldg, it has to be a higher court, and Tues is the only opening! This means I have to change my herceptin appointment next tues and PRAY I feel well enough to go. (first treatment I was down for a gool long week) My ex and his new girlfriend will be there, and Im not sure if my boyfriend can make it, but my daughter will be with me. I gotta make this wig look good.... There is no way I will miss my sons wedding. Well, might be back in a bit, I now have about 3 1'2 hours of infusion left to go.

lago, omaz and kal - I did exactly what you did as far as my hair goes. After all my TC's, I still had some hair left to stick out from under the scars. But when I got home and took my scarf off, I looked like the bald transvestite with a bad comb-over, too!

There was really no point in keeping it, though. I think when your hair starts to grow back in, it pushes out the old stuff just hanging on. I realized that when my hair was coming in thick in the front, and all my long hairs there were gone. So I just got a pair of scissors and cut the rest real short, to match what was coming in. If I had just gone bald in the first place, it would have been easier to tell when and where my new growth was. There would have been no wondering about that PLUS now I didn't want to shave it since I had new growth coming in.

Yeah, if I had to do it over, I would recommend shaving your head. A few months PFC and you end up with the same results anyway - you just can't tell you have new hair coming in, and that's no fun.

Well, Atlanta broke the record for this date as far as the cold temps go - the old record was in 1919. Our temperature got down to 13 degrees today. And maybe snow tomorrow - now I could go for that. I don't like the cold weather unless it's snowing!

    Try to stay warm, everybody!

heartnsoul76.......Right cold in Atlanta. We lived in Jonesboro for 10 years before moving to NC. My daughter lives in Winder....... May get the head shaved tomorrow. I feel as though if not real careful I will get it our food. I just need to do it.................. Stay warm..............Diane

Designermom thank you so much. It will be a civil ceremony, and no reception afterwards. He flew to Thailand to see her graduate college and meet her family, then they flew home, plus the surprise 2,000.00 engagement ring has left him short on funds. And well, I'm just flat broke, so we will have a party later he says. Im so happy for him, they met 2 years ago when she was here on a work visa, dated and eventually lived together for a year before she had to go home, they spent a year apart and are now together and about to get married.

Well, after being at the hospital getting my chemo since 8am, and its now 4:30 pm, Im exhausted and going to lay down.

I got my medicaid, and will be able to be treated at my onco office as soon as I get my card next week, so that time for all 3 (TCH) should be cut dramatically.

Sweetaerobabe - DesignerMom is right all anyone will notice is your incredible smile.  Enjoy the wedding and being with your son and new daughter in law.  So happy for all of you.  Glad you got approved for medicaid so things will be easier for you.

I had my Aredia this afternoon and they added a steroid so that I would not get sick this time.  I feel good and I also got good news that my tumor marker count went from 115 to 99 so it is still going down.  Looks like I am responding well to the current treatment.  I have not gotten sick this time but I am tired.  My DD and her family all arrive tomorrow night so hopefully I will not be too tired tomorrow night to go get them.  The weather is supposed to be really nasty, snow or freezing rain and below freezing when the come in.

Hope everyone is staying warm and well.  Amy Jo

Diane - we used to go down to Jonesboro every week for years. My father had a client down there named Mrs. Kent. She lived in one of the old houses on McDonough Street. Jonesboro has so many beautiful old homes - I wish they would get on the stick and build the GWTW museum they've been talking about for decades! It would be perfect because it's so historical itself. I remember worrying about my hair getting in the food, too. I started wearing a hair net when I cooked, but it would be so depressing when I took it off because then IT was full of hair. Ugh! Depressing any way you look at it!

Sweetaerobabe - that sounds like a fairy tale romance! Best wishes for the newlyweds!

lago - I missed the part about your power walk on that windy day! That's so hilarious! You probably left a trail of confused people in your wake!

sweetaerobabe..... congrats on the wedding... also on getting treatment at another location. My DH is from Jersey City.

heartnsoul......I never thought of hair net. My DH said if I'd like he would cook.I said next treatment on Monday. Your turn after it for a while. Jonesboro was indeed  nice. A real good location since it is south of airport so less traffic.

amyjo49.....glad your treatment is going in the right direction. Enjoy the family!!!!!

Sweet--Congrats to you and your son!  Sounds wonderful! I have 2 married daughters and I love my sons-in-law like they are my own kids.  You are beautiful and have a beautiful smile--no matter what you wear, your son will be happy to have his momma there.

I wore a sleep cap at night to collect the hair.  And I would occasionally go out on the deck to shake as much hair off as possible.  I only have 1 neighbor that could see me, and I really didn't care what he thought!  I didn't shave either.  Got a cute shorter haircut when chemo started, then when it really started falling my hubby cut it real short.  It was kind of fun.  He was so nervous at first, but then realized it really didn't matter how it looked.  I took lots of pics (including a "mohawk" pic!).  I'm glad I didn't shave because I kept the "sideburns" in front of my ears, and they peek out from the scarves.  When I first learned I would have a chemo that would make me lose my hair, I was really bummed.  I had been through so much already.  But by the time it started falling out I knew there was nothing I could do about it. My girls would get mad at me anytime I said something bad about the way I looked!  I've just tried to make the best of it--and I'm very happy it's starting to grow back!!

My first chemo last year the lady sitting next to me started chatting with me and she told me about a chemo she had been on before that made her lose her hair.  She was out on a boat and she had hair when she started,  but came back to shore bald!  The wind blew it all away!

Amyjo--good news!  Hope you feel ok the next few days!

Day 5 since lumpectomy and still very tired, but not too bad for soreness.  Meet with BS on Monday for follow up. But just glad this part is over. Waiting for pathology report, which I think is worse than waiting for surgery. The waiting, the waiting...

I do know that I will have 29 rad treatments, but unknown for the chemo at this point. Hopefully, by the end of the week we will have a better path.

To all those who have finished treatment...CONGRATS!!!  It is a wonderful feeling to know that it is over with!  Keep up the good spirits and have a great evening all!!

dianemoe - I'm 12 days post my first T/C treatment and just noticed today that I am shedding - a lot.

My scalp has been sore and itchy for days and days. I've also noticed some sores on my scalp. I'm trying not to freak out about it - I think I'm prepared but it was all I could do to not cry when I realized that I was shedding today.

    Sending you big hairy hugs.

You girls losing your hair make my day - you all have such funny stories to tell. So glad you can see the humor in it.  Mine is just getting thinner a little at a time.  Top and crown are thin, but rest is still looks normal.  I had enough hair for 3 people when this all began. I do wear a lot of scarfs and hats to keep my head warm.  My scalp is tender and starting to itch some so maybe that means it is about to speed up the process.  People think my DH has a cat because he always has my hair on his sweaters and coat.

Ladyinbama = the avatar is a crop from the OBX trip. The others were on my case to change it to one from the trip and this was what I came up with.  It was cold at the beach, but it is miserable here.  We are not used to these low temps here either.   I am so glad my DH builds me fires before he leave that I just have to light when I get up or get back from my days appointments.  He also builds them at night and my big chair is right beside the fireplace so I can stay nice and toasty.  Love that man, he takes such good care of me.

Hope everyone is staying warm and well and has plans for a wonderful holiday season.

    Joy and blessings, Amy Jo

Good evening all.  Well I have a date for surgery.  Its fast approaching and Im getting a bit nervous.  Its all starting to seem more real now.  I dont know why but it does.  I do know its down right cold out and its not gonna get any warmer in the next few weeks.

  • Hi Paula - as you've probably read, the waiting is the hardest part sometimes.  This is a great place for support and encouragement, as well as a giggle every now and then.  Explore the various topics and you will eventually find a few places you like.  When is your surgery date?

  • Paula66
    Paula66 Member Posts: 1,572

Hi Mrs.  I have my surgery Dec. 29.  I am ready for it.  I have known since Oct that I had cancer so I want to start the healing.  So far I have been on pins and needles daily.  But I will get threw it.  You gals do have a good time on here.  Thats great to see.  O btw the way.  I didnt think to ask the nurse when we last talked, so maybe someone here can feel me in.  One of my pre-surgery test is a chest xray.  Why do they do that. if anyone can feel me in thanks.

  • Chest Xrays are common as a pre-op procedure, especially if you haven't had one in awhile or they have no record of it.  Simply to rule out any infection of any kind, especially anything bronchial, like if you've had a cold recently, or other congestion, flu or pneumonia, or of course any possible cancer blobs that might be lurking.  Also as you go forward through treatment, whether you have any chemo or radiation, they want to have a baseline xray to compare to future xrays, as some chemo regimens have a small risk of heart muscle damage, lung damage, etc., so it helps your medical team as they monitor you in years ahead.

Please don't be scared by all of this, I know it is a lot of info.  Do you have a good family support systems or close friends who will be with you during all of this?

  • Paula66
    Paula66 Member Posts: 1,572

I have a few good friends that I get to talk with.  My sister has been threw this twice.  Its a good thing I have her to help me.  She says alot has changed since she went threw it. I have her to look to as a rock.  Plus I have a huge church family that is awsome.  Thanks.

Paula good luck with your surgery and like MrsNice said the waiting is the hard part.  It is good that you have a good support system with family friends and church.  That is so helpful.  Always makes me feel better knowing that people on praying for me.

Paula-  Welcome!  Just like MrsNice said.  Chest x-ray is pretty routine, especially if you will be having anesthesia.  They need to make sure your lungs are clear before putting you to sleep.  These ladies are wonderful and generous and full of great information, and yes, lots of laughs too!

Hi there!  Well, I am feeling so much better these days.  I was at the hospital yesterday to have my port flushed and it is 4 weeks since my last chemo!  I also saw the consellor who was most helpful in filling me in on some of the things I am feeling, like extreme fatigue, moody blues from time to tme, sore body, etc.  Hope to enjoy the upcoming holidays with family and friends and take this time to catch my breath, recharge and get some rest to prepare for the next phase of this treatment, radiation.

Stay well, my friends, know that you are loved and prayers are being said for you for gentle healing and recovery.
