amyjo- That Daisy! I'm wondering if you can give her something to make her sleep!! I'm not talking about tranquilizers, something like Benadryl. My friend gives her dog Benadryl for allergies. Nothing worse than being awakened when you are tired. Glad you will have some fun this weekend. I found those two days off during rads totally revived me and I was ready again by Monday.
Speaking of sleep. I usually have no problem, but with chemopause I seem to toss and turn for hours. I have been using the supplement Melatonin this week (1 mg. before bedtime). I fall asleep immediately and wake up bright as rain! There is also research that it blocks estrogen similar to Tamox.
BarbA- Great news on your brother!

Can you get DH to exercise Daisy? It sounds like she knows you don't feel right and is feeling anxious poor thing. My dogs usually get calm when I'm not feeling good, but some dogs might react like Daisy. Sounds like she is saying: "Get back to normal Mom, walk me, play with me, I don't like your not feeling good"
I hope DH can help and I wish you all the best. I only had lumpectomy surgery (no results yet) so luckily I can walk my dogs as needed.
Hang in there!

Barb: Great news on your brother!!
Shelley: I guess I'm too late to pray for your son, but hope all went well with him.

Barbara - Glad to hear the good news about Dave. Still sending prayers for your strength as well as his continued healing.
Shelley - hope eveything went well with your son's audition. I know you are proud of him.
GD - still praying for your SIL
DM - Daisy has calmed down she was just being a pest the other day. She does that once in a while. DH does take her out and plays with her every day when he gets home and she is generally pretty good about entertaining herself. Just once in a while she wants to be a pest.

amyjo- You are finished with your first week of rads. Congratulations! About your Daisy. I had a thought. When my dad was seriously ill, his family dog became a down right nuiscance. We would kick her out the front door, she would scratch through the back door screen and end up in his room again, whining! It was like she was standing guard over him. They were very close. I do believe animals can sense things we can't. Maybe she is feeling the impact of all your treatments on your body? Recently there was a news story about a very timid family dog who never, ever barked. She went nuts barking and carrying on in the yard. The owners were in their garage and came out to see. Just then their whole garage roof collapsed from the weight of too much snow. She saved them. Have a wonderful, restful weekend, my friend.

MrsNice is right, Miaderm is a wonderful lotion for those of you going through radiation. My radiation onc insisted I use it exclusively because of the fantastic results she has seen over the last year. I think she was right, it worked really well. She let me spot treat with a little burn cream at the end, but otherwise, she only wanted me using the Miaderm. I still got red at about week five, but that was it. I put on a thick layer after radiation (about 8 a.m.) and another thick layer after I got home from work in the evening. I was able to wear a bra, exercise, etc. just like normal. On the weekends, I tried to layer on the cream three times a day and go braless a bit so the air could get to my tender skin. I feel for those who get blisters. A relative of mine had a terrible time but I don't think she used the cream regularly in the beginning.

Well I have finished #4 of 28 and should be done by March 24th if all goes as planned. I have ordered the Miaderm, but it has not come yet so I am using the Emu oil and the Calendula lotion. I alternate them and use one or the other about 4-5 times a day. I am so fair skinned and I do not want to wind up looking like a crispy critter. The last 2 visits have gone pretty easy and they now know that they need to have my favorite tech in there. He knows how to help and when to help and when to let me do it myself. And he always ask if he thinks I need some extra help. Plus he is so gentle in handleing me when he has to move me into position. He is younger than my youngest daughter and so I tease him a lot, but he is really good.
DH and I have gone to visit some friends that live about 2 hours away for the weekend and have had a wonderful time being with them. It has been really great to get away from the house for a little while. I have gotten to visit with friends, play games, shop a little, and get some rest. We will be heading home in a little while.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend and the break from all the treatments and tests. Hoy and blessings, Amy Jo

amyjo49 - Your favorite tech sounds so caring, that is nice. I also really liked the aquaphor for radiation at night and right after a pure aloe vera gel. The aquaphor really seals up the skin and keeps it from drying out. (((hug)))0

Amyjo your doing great, glad you have a caring tech to help you. It is amizing how we bond with the techs.

Hey all, I'm back from DC! Thank you all so much for your prayers. DS did not make the cut, though, poo. However, we had a FABULOUS time together in our nation's capital (said with Forrest Gump drawl). It was great to spend one-on-one time with him, it happens so rarely these days. He has appointments to audition with the other service bands so all is not lost. It was a good experience.
AmyJo, I'm with eveyone on the Miaderm (it smells lovely), I used a couple of samples, but it was too expensive for me to order. Instead I used 100% aloe (Fruit of the Earth) during the day and CVS brand of Aquaforat night like Omaz with very good results. I bought cheap t-shirts at Walgreens (4/$10) to sleep in with the Aquafor since it is pretty greasy, but it felt really good.
For you travelers, FYI I went through the body scanner each way and got nary a look, poke or prod with my silicone foob. What a relief.

Shellleyj43 - That is good to know since I have a lot of travel plans that I want to fulfill this year. I have silacone implants so hopefully I will not have a problem going through the scanner.
Marybe - Speakning of travel plans - what time frame this Fall are you looking at for our trip to Uncle Bill's place? I need to start making reservations for everything so I will know when I will be where. Between graduations in May, new grandchild in July, NY hopefully in April and then the OBX reunion at Uncle Bill's, I have a lot of reservations and plans to make. I am trying to get all the dates in line so I can make arrangements that do not interfere with my treatments. I will finish my rads in late March and I am hoping that by the middle of April I will be able to finalize all my travel plans.
BarbaraA - how are you doing? I haven't heard much from you lately. Hope you are getting some rest.
Finished rad #5 today and I am already starting to feel a little burn. Hopefully the emu oil and calendula lotion will help and the miaderm will get here tomorrow. Wednesday my treatment time moves to the morning which will work better for me. The afternoon time is awful for me as it falls during my normal nap time, which puts me taking my nap late then staying up later than I should. I still cannot believe how fast I get exhausted. I am trying to take care of myself and DH is so sweet about doing all most all of the cooking and cleaning.
Hope everyone has a restful evening and enjoys tomorrow. Amy Jo

Hi Ladies:
I love reading this thread and am posting to say hello. It's been a year since I felt my lump in my breast (my mammogram had missed it), and what a year it's been. Finished rads in mid-January and started Arimidex a few weeks ago. So far, pretty good, except for some tingling in my thumbs. I am now eating mostly organic, lots more fruit and veggies, going to the gym with a little more motivation now, and have cut down on stress at the job. I really feel good. Can't wait to ditch my wig - maybe in another month, when it's no longer cold outside. (We're looking at more snow tonight in Philly - has this winter been nuts or what?) Hope all of the 2010 ladies on this thread have a wonderful 2011.

amyjo- You are going to see how these rads just fly by. I found the fatigue short lived, not like chemo fatigue that lasted days. Even a short 15 minute nap did the trick to revive me. I am a big believer in naps. Instead of prescribing pills, I think doctors should write out rx mandating daily naps. And a prescription for a tropical vacation wouldn't hurt either! So glad NYC is on your travel itinerary. Spring is coming ladies, how glorious it will be!

Morning all! Here I am all nervous about seeing the PS for my fill...hopefully will tell me how much more to go and when the exchange will be..
Designer Mom- i am supposed to bei n NYC the end of March for a conference but will depend on what PS schedule is...if I go, would love to meet ya for a cuppa joe:)
0 -
annettek-I'm always up for a good conversation and cup of coffee. Yes, I am still drinking coffee and don't plan on giving it up!

DM - I would love one of those rx for a tropical vacation. My onco is so good about writing a rx for anything I ask, maybe I'll ask about that too. I am a big fan of cat naps too. I generally take at least 2 everyday and boy do I get cranky if I miss one of them.
annettek - what are the dates you will be in NYC and where will you be staying? Maybe we all could meet for that cup of joe, if it is after I am done with my rads. I had planned on coming in April but I might could make it in March if it is after the 24th.
Today after the rad treatment #6 the pink blotches were really visable so I put on a gob of Calendula gel and by the time I got home they were no longer visable. So I am going to keep the gel in my purse until the miaderm gets here then I will try that one. Still using the emu oil in the mornings and the evenings. The Calendula mid-morning, after my treatments in the afternoon and at bedtime. Everthing is looking good so far to me, so I will see what the RO says tomorrow when I see him. Has anyone else started burning this early in rads?
Hope everyone has a restful evening and enjoys tomorrow. Joy and blessings, Amy Jo

Amyjo- Sounds like we are going to party in NYC this Spring. I actually used the Boiron Calendula cream, not gel. I don't know if it is different, perhaps the cream is more moisturizing.? It sure worked for me. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll send you some.
I think the world would be a much better place if naps were mandatory!

DM - I use the cream, lotion and gel all 3 just depends on which one is handy at the time I think about lubing up.

amyjo- That a girl. The more goo the better. Hope you don't slide out of bed! If you do, don't land on Daisy!

AmyJo, glad your cream and oil is working for you!
DM, let me know when Annette and AmyJo plan to come and I will see if I can get some work in the City then.

Well, they added 2 more rad treatments today so I now have 30 and not 28 and I will be done on March 26th. Looks like NYC trip for me will have to wait until sometime in April. I am so very tired and bones are really aching tonight. DH had to work late because of a big 5/10 year planning meeting. Anyway I am headded to bed as soon as I have finished checking my threads.
Hope everyone has a restful evening. Amy Jo
