I AM DONE, can I say that again, I AM DONE with rads.  No more photons or electrons being zapped into me.  I brought the techs cookies my DS made for me last night since I was so tired.  Dinner out tonight.

Skin is looking a lot better with two weeks on the silver cream.  See the RO next month then adios amigos.

I think I have posted this on most of the boards I am on.  Chemo and Rads are done.  Now the only thing hanging in the future is getting the "girls" balanced out.  Going to have the left TE expander removed since we had to take the right TE out due to infection (twice), once right after BMX, then chemo, tried recon again in Nov. before rads, Dec second infection, Jan rads. Now a three month break then surgery.  After I am going to secretly save for a cruse next year and suprise the heck out of DH.

Congrats mjb!!!  It feels sooo good to be done with that traveling every day.  Hopeing you heal quickly!

Sorry about the LE, ladies.  Something we all fear, I think.  I've heard once you get le it never really goes away, you just have to manage it.  Some are able to manage it very well, so here's hoping for you 2!

Grizzly--I agree it takes awhile to feel better.  My joints got worse before they started getting better. I don't know if its from chemo or "chemopause".  None of the docs are saying for sure.  Sounds like many of us get the joint aches.  Walking and exercise help though!

mbj - so glad you are done.  What a great feeling that must be. Joining in on the Happy Dance for you.

Omaz and Jen - so sorry to hear about the LE. Please take care of yourselves and hopefully this will not be a lifelong thing to deal with.

Adey - guess we will be doing the count down together.  We will make it through this. After everything else this may truly be the easy part.  Last time I had rads I had some strange SE, but the RO says I should not have those same things happen this time since we are radiating a different area.  They are just doing both breast areas on me.  What all are they doing on you?

I have finished #2 of the rad treatments and I took a pain/anxiety pill before I went so I was in sort of lala land.  Good thing DH was with me when I went ot see the RO as he helped me remember all the questions I had. Got lots of answers and so far I am doing most things right, just need to cut back on the vitamin E and drink decaf green tea.  Finally say the Nurse Navigator and that was a waste of time.  I get more useful information from the RO's PA and I have her cell phone # on speed dial if I need anything.  I think I will stick with the Aleve and not take the pain/anxiety pill again.  I am so sleepy tonight.  I keep falling asleep when I stop to think of what I want to type.  Off to bed to sleep this off.  Night all.

AmyJo, good luck with the rads treatments. Remember the creams to keep the skin from getting to raw. You can do this, with a wonderful DH that is taking care of you - a great prescription for recovery!  I like the speed dial for the PA. I've got to remember that one!

Granny, Keeping your SIL in prayers. My mom was in a coma for 4 months... she came out of it. Play music for her and talk to her all the time if you can. Blessing to all that are involved with her recovery.

Sorry to hear some of you have the LE. I got the sleeve and it's a must when I fly. The LE therapist thinks I have some cording issues so he gave me exercise to follow... finally! It's my own fault for not having the BS give me some sort of exercise long time ago. The BS always checked my range of motion and it was fairly good but it didn't address this new issue.

    Rest well

On LE: I had some swelling in my left hand/arm so I saw a Lymph therapist. She made me a temporary compression sleeve and showed me how to do the massage at home. After two weeks, I went back yesterday, and my left arm now measures SMALLER than my right! I guess I massaged it too much :) I got the onc to write a prescription for a "real" compression sleeve, which the therapist told me I could wear just e/o day if my arm stayed looking good. She said the  main thing is to be sure I'm wearing it if I'm using that arm (exercising, housework, gardening etc.).

About LE.  I had a funny feeling I was getting a bit as my left arm seemed a little puffy.  A few months ago I went to my BS to check and of course they totally dismissed it.  Now, after finishing rads, I am feeling weird pain, almost like a bruise and definitely have tightness and less range of motion.  I am finally trying to find a certified lymphedema OT to properly evaluate me and get a sleeve.  I spent the whole morning dialing for who accepts my insurance!  This medical insurance mess is enough to make a person give up!  I am also trying to get an Onc second opinion.  Every time I call, I get their service.  It takes them two days to call back and I'm not home.  And this is to get an appointment as a new patient!  What is going on in the world???

Designer Mom I had the same issue when trying to get in to see a new MO.  I finally found another one that was recommended by some friends. I was able to get an appt quit easily and called the others back and left them a message to forget it.  I think God was looking out for me once again even though I went through the frustration.  I really like the new MO and he likes to try natural things before going to more meds etc. He really looked at my supplements and adjusted them as well and gave me explanations of why he was doing it.

About LE - I see nurse Debbie from my BS office every three months. She does an L Dex test to measure any LE activity. Does no one else BS offer this?

mjb - I had a baseline I think before my surgery.  I will call them back next week and see if they want to followup now that I have been dx'd with LE.  Good idea.

amyjo- Number four down today.  They are doing my right breast and lymph nodes by the collar bone.  So far so good with my skin, I lube the boob often.  Laying on the table in their wacky position is not good for my shoulder blade, oof.

Adey---dont forget to cream all the way up to the collar bone.We need all the cream we can get.Yes that position is very very uncomfortable but you do get used to it.

    Blessings to you all.

Granny-  Prayers are answered. I'll keep praying too.  Three weeks early for your GD isn't too bad is it?  I had to be induced 4 weeks early, but all went well and he came home with me after two days.  He was only 5 pounds, we called him our little sack of sugar!  You should see how big he is now....and how much he eats!

mjbmiller-  How wonderful that your BS has a nurse who checks you for LE!  I'm still trying to book an appointment.

I did finally get an appointment with my new Onc. It only took a week of phone tag.  Who's stupid idea was it to have an answering service take calls when you need an appointment!!  Back and forth the calls went.  Talk about lack of productivity!

Dmom--how frustrating for you!  Good thing you have that sound proof room :)

Adey--Yes, don't forget to put lotion up by the collar bone too--that was the area that burned the worst on me.  And I was told that the back could burn as well because the radiation goes right through in that area.

I ended up getting cording from having my arm above my head each day for rads.  Remember to do your arm exercises--some stretching each day will help.

Granny--good newsabout your sil! My grandson was born 9 weeks early and he is doing great!  He's 16 months now and almost completely cought up. I'll pray for a healthy baby as well!

Just trying to read everything and keep up with what is going on.  I am so tired and ready to put a muzzle of Daisy the dog to see if that will stop her barking every time I try to fall asleep.  Needless to say she did not get any treats tonight.  I am so mad at her for keeping me awake.  The weather is a little nicer and all she wants to do it run in and out.  Finished #3 today and tomorrow after my treatment DH and I will be off to see some friend in a nearby town to spend the weekend.  DH is putting the lotion on my back and I am keeping the breast area from my neck to about 3" below my breast lubricated.  My shoulders and upper arms are killing me and I am trying to do my arm exercises everyday, but some days it just hurts too much.  At least DH knows how to message them for me and that helps.  I am so fortunate to have him to take care of me.  I am off to bed and DH says if Daisy makes a sound he will lock her upstairs in the back bedroom.  Hope everyone has a restful evening.

  • Hello sistahs!

Just stopping in to say hello.  They let me take a few days off before starting the boosts and my skin healed up quite nicely.  Had my last rad boost on Friday the 11th and haven't had any peeling from that.  I used Miaderm cream all over, but used Silvaden in the really bad spots - that made a significant difference in healing.  So for anyone still doing rads, if you've got peeling spots and painful stuff, it really does heal up pretty quickly once the zaps are stopped.

Working part-time is going pretty well.  My boss and team have been extremely compassionate and flexible.  I seem to get through Monday and Tuesday just fine, and then Wednesday I'm really wiped out so I sleep late and work from home.

I have a little reading to catch up with all of you, but I do hope everyone is hangin' in there the best you can, and keeping the nasty SEs at bay.

Good morning, gals. Adey and AJ, here's to the coming weekend off from rads!

GD - so happy to hear about you SIL. Prayers still going up.

Update on my brother: he passed the swallow test and proceeded to drink 1/2 gallon of water. They moved him to a regular room where he proceeded to chow down on a hospital meatloaf dinner. And he even liked it! They will watch him for another day or two then he will go home. Whew.

Glad to hear the great news  coming from everyone!  I know the prayers are working! Can I ask for some prayer for my son? Nothing medical but we are in DC today, he is auditioning for the Navy Band. He is a senior in college and is a music major (trombone). This is an awsome opportunity for him just to get invited!
