Too busy shoveling to weigh, but I'm pretty sure it isn't good. I think I will buy a hypnosis CD too.  I'm not laughing, because a few years I bought one for stress reduction & sleep. It worked so amazingly well, that I would put it in and CONK, I would be out. Almost scary how well it worked!!

Ducky, already had my first listen, but collie was barking for a while (took them a while to relax).  I'm all for giving it a try for a few weeks and see what happens.  I think I will start using it while I am falling asleep (so dogs don't interrupt the soothing mood).

Down to 161 this morning.  Weighed 163 yesterday but was up 4 or 5 times last night to go to the bathroom.  Apparently I p**ed off 2 lbs.

Kim, hope it helps.............if not the book is a good read, but I do this everyday, not just for the weight, but for the calming relaxation..............I do believe it is working..............certainly making me much more aware of what I do.

Today I had............2 small pieces of scone with coffee........a cup of soup which was homemade......and tonight........some Panera bread Lentil Soup from BJ's......a couple crackers.........cup of tea, and another piece of scone.................5 radishes, and some celery................have not checked the calories, but I know it wasn't a lot, and I ate these things when I was truely hungry...........done for the night except for water and Meds..............

I know I am very aware now........just hope it continues

ducky - thanks for the tip about the book and CD.

Omaz..............your very welcome................I always say.......any port in a storm.........I have literally tried everything.................its funny cause when Oz. comes on with another form of weight-loss, I smile and say "oh yea, I tried that one too" and trust me there were many.

Somehow I feel good about this one.........I do belive it is making a difference............I have no idea, why or how it works, but it seems to......................I told my daughter about it, and asked her about something that confused me.

I have Bose Headphones.........they are stereo........in the beginning of the CD McKenna says......if your listening in "stereo" this sound should be coming from the right......and this sound coming from the left.........and it does..................however, during the CD, at certain points, he talks from the "right" side of the headset........and from the left side...........both at the same time....................I find myself trying to listen to both sides............each side is saying something different.....

When I asked my daughter, who is very intelligent, and is always watching Nova, PBS, and other educational channels.....(has 2 young children)..........................she told me, it is believed that by talking through "stereo" headphones................saying different things, at the same time............you can re-program someones brain.........................which makes sense...........I wish I could find out why he does this..............however, again I do belive this is working for me, at least for now..............time will tell, and I will keep everyone informed........................

cool ducky!  you are now our test subject Smile! Clinical trial for this.

I also think that when the body is balanced and well, it will tell you what it needs and protest (or process more quickly) indulgences. So, eventually, when we get there, the body actually works with us. In the meantime, though, all the help anyone can get is food for health!

Actually, the science behind this is pretty interesting too. The belief is that will power is not as strong as subconscious power. So, if you want to change a habit or lower a stress or an attitude, using positive or guided imagery and deep relaxation or self-hypnosis can be a really great tool.

I used it 20 years ago (tape I listened to for 60 days) to quit smoking! My support group gave me two CDs to listen to  during radiation that really, really helped. I have since then started using various health CDs to activate deep levels where I need reinforcement (like for health and sleeping better, etc.) I too listened to a sleep one once and thought, it took me two more hours to fall asleep after so not working. But then... for the rest of that week I could sleep through anything, dogs barking downstairs, telephone ringing by the bed, stuff that usually disturbed my sleep. So, it just took a day to activate!

Anyway, please let us know how it goes. You are very cool here the way you share and support  with your sisters! Thanks!

Truebff.........So far I truely think it is helping.............You mentioned "sharing" with others, well sometimes your hesitant to do so, because you never know when someone will think........."ok, this Chic is goofy", but I figured I tried everything else, so why not this........for $15.61, I can find out........then I though...........hell I spent that much in the "dollar store" yesterday on crap, so why not purchase something that just might work

I didn't say anything to my kids, since doing WW and then going off that, their thought would be "this woman can find more ways to spend money".............and maybe not, but I was not giving them the opportunity to say "ok, Mom, another gimmic".................the only one I did say something to was my youngest......who did WW after pregnancy and and went from 200lbs. to 133lbs in 3 months................and has not gained an ounce back.................she is a true WW believer (as I am), she was also 33 when she did that, and again at 35 after her 2nd baby........but for me, its 76 years old, and Meds............a hard road to travel.

So that being said, I will keep everyone informed of my progress "good or bad", and if I'm wrong, it won't be the only $15.00 I spent foolishly..................

You do make a lot of sense with your explanation of how this can work..........my daughter said the same thing when I told her about the guy talking in "stereo" and hearing 1 message from the right ear............yet another from the left ear.................and how you hear them both......she called it re-programming the brain.......................Lord I hope soooooooooo................hugs.

Ducky, At first I tried to figure out if I was supposed to understand both voices at once, or hear one voice and let the other be the subliminal message.  Don't have it on headphones though, so don't know what that would be like.  I think it is doing its job at helping me reduce portion size and not cleaning my plate.  The kitchen may have gotten messy but the plate was always clean

  • duckyb1
    duckyb1 Member Posts: 9,646

Kim........I'm a little confused about that too...........I wish I could get an explanation......like I said, my daughter claims that is how they re-program your brain..........she is a lot younger then I am, and although we both are avid readers, and information collectors, as far as understanding, and brain function goes.............I do belive she is a lot more schooled in "comprehension" then I am, so I have to believe what she is telling me, until I find out otherwise...............I have even googled different types of questions to find an answer, and so far have not been successful.

Like you though, I do belive the CD is working..........I am so much more aware of my behavior when it comes to eating........I will admit, I am still not sitting at the table, because living alone and sitting by yourself, seems to make "lonely" worse, (I even feel sorry for someone sitting in a restaurant alone eating), so I do sit in the family-room in front of the "evening news".......but I eat slowly, put down the fork, chew extensively, and am aware of the food I am eating.............so 1 "shouldn't do" isn't bad.

Its nice having a "buddy" to do this with..........I will keep you informed as to how I am doing, and also.........if I can find out an answer to that "stereo left and right conversation".......hugs.

ducky - even if this is a "gimmick" as you say, it seems to be WORKING for you!!!!  There are so many weight loss programs that I have tried and I think I only wasted my money!!!  You have already noticed that you are much more aware of your eating habits..... in my mind this program has already paid for itself for this reason alone!!   Congrats!!

  • duckyb1
    duckyb1 Member Posts: 9,646

Mary Louise........I swear it is working...........I just got back from our CVS, which is a pharmacy (not sure if they have those in your area).................I went looking for "knee highs"........ok, yes I am showing my age, but too cool to got without, and need a Pedi, so even if it is warm, that won't work.....well I could do my own..........Nah forget that, I'm spoiled..too much trouble.......however

I passed by the aisle with the cookies (Lorna Doone my favorite), and the candy aisle (black licorice, another favorite)...............I stopped, looked, touched, and then though......hmmm, do I really want that, my Paul McKenna "voice" came into my head, and I passed it by.........and guess what I bought...........don't you dare laugh.............Seedless Prunes.........ok, let's call them Seedless Plums.........that sounds more edible................330 mgs. potassium..works for me.......................

So I think this just might be doing the job.........This morning I had 2 small scone (my homemade),and coffee.............waited till I was hungry........not my usual........oh I'm up, I better eat, even though I wanted nothing, but coffee....................for lunch I made protein shake..................1%milk 12 oz.....strawberry protein powder (20Grams), with frozen strawberries tossed in, and blended........excellent............

Not sure what I will do tonight, but I am so happy with this................and the beauty part is I can eat when I want,...........not have to cram Xamount of food in, in a day............eat whatever I want, even if its a cup of ice cream, but keeping in mind............only eat till your feeling full, regardless of what it is................I don't care anymore about wasting food, I'm putting less on the plate so I don't have to feel bad for the 'starving people in Ethopia".

Will keep you all informed.............please God let this be the answer, just sad that I had to find it out so late in life...................

On the recommendation of Ruth (I think!), I too bought prunes last year and found them to be quite tasty!  I just never did get into eating them regularly.

Congrats again............ feeling good about yourself and your efforts go a long way too!!

Ok friends - I joined this thread about 2 months ago (or was it longer LOL!) and I weigh exactly the same as I did before.  I go to my onc next week for a checkup and I was hoping to have lost at least a few pounds and haven't.  I really need to drop about 15 which doesn't seem like so much but I suck at persistence.  I did prove to myself that I CAN lose weight in chemopause though, so that was a good thing.  I got Ducky's book and am going to do that. (((((hugs to you all)))) for being here and being supportive even though I am such a slacker!

Omaz..............We had a birthday party for my twin g. grandaughters today....they were 1 year old..............

I can tell you this.......I am confident this could be working.......

I bought 3 pair of pants at Kohl's on Tuesday........when I put them on, and buttoned them in the dressing room, they felt a little snug at the waist, but thought, I'll eat less when I have them on, or I'll leave the button undone..............................

As I approached the pants today, to put them on, I thought........well, thank God I have reserves, cause I'm sure these are not gonna work.................They slid on, and I got the buttom closed without any effort, and room to spare........................have not gotten on the scale, cause Paul McKenna in the book tells you do not get on scale for 2 weeks once you begin the program........, but in 4 days the pants were looser.

I was in complete control of what I ate at the function, constantly aware of when I was nearing feeling full...............Remember I can eat whatever I want, no restriction, just have to stop, when I'm  satisfied.................well, i did great.........

I so hope this is the answer to my prayers............when I came home, I got into my fuzzy red robe, and slippers, got into my recliner, got my Bose headphones, and listened to my CD...................I hope you have the same luck.............let me know..........If we all get into this, I might start a thread called .............Paul McKenna Can Make You Thin............hugs

Don't know if you remember the old commercials about how chocolate hit peanut butter and it turned out to be good.  Well, I am doing Ducky's thing, except that I make a nice plate, eat until full, and throw it in the fridge.  I believe in variety on the plate so the base was maybe a little more than a cup of spinach and baby greens.  I grilled a hamburger, no bun for my burgers.  I threw maybe 1/4 cup of raw red and orange pepper strips on the greens.  Microwaved a cup of frozen peas and then mixed with 2 tablespoon's of Marie's garlic dressing.  Tossed  3 large shrimp on the plate, 6 black olives, 3 deli chunks of watermelon, 2 deli strawberries, 1 tablespoon of whole cranberry sauce, and a table spoon of strawberry yogurt.  Oh yeah, a small to medium size Yukon Gold was on their too.  I grazed on this plate, maybe less than 1/3 for breakfast.  Saran wrap and into the fridge it went.  A nibble an hour later, 2 hours later more than a nibble. Had a small ice cream snack with small portion low-cal Edy's vanilla bean and very small handful of mixed nuts.  2 hours later back to finish the plate.

Hah, what I want to tell you is that the strawberry yogurt hit the spinach leaves and that turns out to be a great low-cal dressing.  I don't especially care for the pink as a visual but it is a great taste combination and low cal all the way. With a slice of fresh strawberry it was even better.  I didn't put a nut on it, but I think that would have sent it over the top.  I googled this combo and found that it is a salad, but usually with addition of feta.  Love me some feta, but with salt restriction can't do that.  Just want to suggest if you have never mixed strawberries with spinach, it's a darn good taste combination and everything good for you all the way.

Ducky--  I am so very happy for you that this is working.  It does feel good to be going in the "right"direction doesn't it? It sounds like, for you, it is a calorie/amount of food that is the issue.  Do you think this would work for someone who has, say a sweet tooth?  I am the cookie monster (and oh well, to be honest, the pie monster, cake monster, cracker monster....).  I am losing the chemo weight but I want to do something that might be better for me long term.

Omaz-- well there goes breakfast at Eclectic!!  No such thing as a small portion there.  They have such decadent breakfast like strawberry french toast in cream cheese--yummy but....

Am down about 4 pounds!  I want to just get down another 6-8 and then when I finish chemo - the last 5.  Someone posted a link to a site about fasting and chemo--more to it than that- but I am not eating that much and wow, do I feel good!  Q

About four months ago my boyfriend and I went on a no starch and sugar diet, eating only veggies, fruits, lean protein,  and nuts.  I've lost 15 pounds and he's lost 20.  We exercise 3 times a week.  He went from a size 36 to a size 32 and I went from a size 8 to a size 4!  We are absolutely never hungry on this diet, and we have very few cravings for all the sweet stuff that we used to put into our bodies.  Dessert for us now is an orange or apple with some nuts, and we're happy.

We feel so much better eating this way, but our friends think we're crazy, say we're getting too thin, and don't like eating out with us any more.  It's not like we're asking them to eat the same way we are!

I can only say, if you read the book, and faithfully listen to the CD everyday, it somehow subconsciously puts you back in control of your eating.................I am not able to explain how, I can just tell you it does......

As I said before, my daughter claims it re-programs your brain as to you way of thinking about food, and your body..................

No special food, no special "diet", just learning to control your way of thinking about food.........for me, it was worth the $15.00 to purchase the book which includes the CD...............I have spent that much on a "musical CD", which has only lined the pockets of the Artist who sings on the CD.....................at least this is "for me"..

I'm not bad mouthing "music", cause no one loves good music more then I, the point I am making is even if you read the book listen to the CD everyday, and gain "nothing", you at least tried, and who knows.......................it might work for you...........................it is for me.

    Rule 1

    When your hungry, EAT

    Rule 2

EAT WHAT YOU WANT, not what you think you should.

    3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY snf rnjoy rbrty mouyhgul

4.When you think you are full, STOP EATING.

Keep in mind, you can stop when you have had enough, because if you get "truely" hungry later, you can eat something else..................

Those are the rules your asked to follow..............I found myself very aware since doing this as to when I have had enough, and I stop...........................believe me, I was one of those people who ate until I was uncomfortable 90% of the time..............

I spent spent close to $225.00 on WW in the past 4 months trying to lose weight........and I lost 10lbs, in that 4 months............and that was a gain, loss, gain loss...........very frustrating....................and still was eating while on WW till I was "stuffed"..............WW works, but not when your almost 77, and on Meds............at least  not for me.

Wish this book and CD were around when I was younger..........Maybe some will call it VOODOO, but for me it is working...................I'm in control now, even if I have someone talking in my ear once a day, coaching me on how to "keep doing what I'm doing".............

Ok ladies.......hand on wrong keys..............that was

Rule 3........Eat CONSCIOUSLY and enjoy every mouthful......................

Ducky You've convinced me.  I have been struggling to lose weight just like my prechemo days and I know for a fact that most of my food issues are emotional.  I experience a strange type of panic when I think about eating healthy.  So I have ordered the book.  Because I am an Amazon prime member I am getting it with the CD and free shipping for around 9 dollars.  Should have it in a couple of days.  I'l let everyone know how I am doing.

Kaara, I did that back in January on a fast for 21 days and lost 5 lbs.  Haven't kept up that way of eating although I've been pretty good since then and the 5 lbs have stayed off.  I remember the cravings for sweets did go away until I had some after the fast.  Now trying to get back to eating that way at least most days and I know the weight will begin to go down again.  Your friends are typical, they want you to stay the way they have always known you.  I doubt you will waste away as your body will adjust to what it needs and where it needs to be.

Kaara- that is pretty much what I do.  And I feel so much better when I do. When i go off the wagon, so to speak, I don't notice anything for about 5 days and then, boom, I feel , well, no where near as good.  My head feels more clear as well as my thoughts. Joints and whole body much more at ease.  I was looking at your dx and wondering if you did this while on chemo???  One thing to continue an eating plan but another to change while starting chemo.  I am still ...I mean still... doing chemo and I go bakc and forth with eating "right" and going off-- for comfort-- my favored eating.  I am trying to stay the course for the remainder of chemo and not take little side trips too often (or take shorter ones).

Of course, this isn't for everyone because we really are all different. Q

Down 1 pound for this week as of this morning and reporting now, because not sure what tomorrow will show.  Ate a hamburger with extra, extra mayo, and also had ice cream dribbled with Rum Chata and spiced mixed nuts later in the day. Tongue out  Enjoyed every delightful bite, I can tell you that.  Now I am just a little nervous what scale will have to say about it tomorrow.

3 pounds!!!  I am FINALLY down more than a decimal point!!!  I was really starting to get discouraged as I have not been snacking AT ALL in the evenings (problem area!) for the past 2 weeks and did not see any great difference.... maybe it just takes a little time to get caught up!

Heading out now for my  morning walk - beautiful sunshine today!!  Is it really March???

((HUGS)) to all who are struggling - keep at it and you CAN get there!!
