It's very good and free. When I use it religiously, I lost weight.

Hi, I need your help. I have gained so much weight since I was dx'd in 2006. It has been up,up,up since them. And 4 years ago I quit smoking, so that only added insult to injury. BTW, I quit smoking with the help of the quit smoking thread on here. So I thought, why not join this thread...and the exercise one.....to help me. I have gained 60 lbs since 2006! I can't stand myself, I have a hard time walking , my back hurts, my ankles swell and I have never been this heavy in my life. I am 235 lbs.

I saw that ruthbru is on loseit.com. I am  either going to try that or I am also thinking about joining weight watchers.

I appreciate all of your help in advance. I have to cancel going to the zoo with my DD and grandson because I just can't do all that walking. I am only 60 years old!! I shouldn't have this problem.

Thank you for listening. Good luck to all of you. I read back a few pages and I will begin to post regularly.  :0)

Welcome Candie. A number of women have lost weight with Weight Watchers. I think the community support is helpful at the beginning. Have you had a physical with your primary care doc lately? I think that might be a good idea since your ankles swell. I don't know about your MO, but mine's interest seems to stop at the edge of my breast. Your PC might also suggest which exercise to start first. You have the motivation which is the most important part. We'll look forward to your posts.

    Hi Wrenn44,

Yes, I have had  a physical and both my PCP and cardiologist have given me the ok for a weight lose/exercise program of my choice. The cardio dr has ruled out everything for ankles, he feels it is from my weight as does my PCP. I just had complete checkup from both Drs including stress tests. My MO has suggested I lose weight as he sees I have gained so much. So here I am...lol.

I started practicing eating better last week in anticipation of begiining this adventure. I did well all day but the nighttime is my downfall. I have cookies and mick or ice cream before I go to bed....need to stop that, I guess for one. I need to move .

    will be back

Check out loseit.com. It is free so you aren't out any money if you don't like it. You can have friend groups on there if you want to. Weight Watchers is a great program but I like loseit because I can do it on my own time and it is easier, the program keeps track of everything. (Plus you can 'earn' back calories through exercise. I went over the calorie limit I set for myself yesterday, so I went on the treadmill & walked just long enough to burn off the extra.)

Candie, WW is a great program.  I always go back to it.  I'm a lifetime member.  I find when I'm going to WW and paying my money, that helps me keep to the program.  And the support from the other WW attenders is great.

Leaving for vacation today so won't have scale tomorrow.

Was at 167.4 today, a .8 loss from last week...weight loss is starting to slow down.

Threw out the dark chocolate a couple of days ago. I know in small quantities it's good for you but when it comes to sweets in the house, I'm like an alcoholic. A small quantity of anything that contains refined sugar quickly turns into MORE.

My only hope is to periodically and infrequently sharing a dessert with someone in a restaurant. My home has to be a no-sugar zone!

Hope everyone is able to lose at least .1 this week or maintain! Being on vacation I can only hope to retain...

Thank you ruthbru and carole. I can't wait to get losing. I am going to weigh myself tomorrow and that will be the true start!

I will check out loseit and then decide. Oh I am so excited, I think I can do it this time...I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.....

when you check out loseit....look at the different categories at the top of the page....home, goals (which has a graph of how you are doing), report (where you can see the calories you ate, nutrients, you plate shows what groups you ate, weight graph, body mass index graph etc.). They also send you 'badges'...I have 'earned a 'Welcome Aboard', 'Losit'(because I was down a little), and a 'Keep It Up' (because I logged on for three days). So it makes it kind of fun. You can try it for free...so you can play with it and see what you think.

That being said, it is my anniversary tonight, so I no doubt will go over my calories....but will try to make better food choices than I usually would anyway.

Up .5 lbs to 163.  I am eating, eating, eating and not moving enough, and not sleeping well with things on my mind.  After the wedding I will get back on track - after all, DS is getting married Sept. 2014, another goal!

    Morning all

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks.  Went up 5 pounds and it was kind of depressing to report.  Good news though, down 4 from the gain.  I think I wasn't drinking enough water and my body was holding on for dear life.  Started chugging water with fresh lemon juice and it seems to be getting back on track.

Does anyone here take pure green coffee extract?  Its all over the internet due to Dr. Oz.  I dropped by the local sports nutrition shop and it was all sold out!

Haven't posted for a month, but I'm going to get back into it.  Up .2 since last month.

Pat - you'll be a pro at weddings by the time the 2014 comes up!  Just relax and enjoy these days - there'll be time after the wedding to work on undoing any damage you've done.

Candie - yes, you CAN do it.  I lost 60 pounds prior to dx.  I did it slowly, over the course of a few years, gradually making lifestyle changes.  I started out with a promise that I would do 10 minutes of exercise a day - that's all I could manage at that point.  But I stuck to it, and after a few weeks, 10 minutes became 15 minutes, then it became 20.  In the mean time, I decided to make healthier eating choices - again gradually, but over time they became a part of life.  Now I can't imagine eating the way I used to!  Loseit.com didn't exist back then, but I've used it since and it really does help as it holds you accountable for everything you eat, but also gives you credit for all your exercise.  As Ruth says, you can even fudge your calories a bit is you go over by doing extra exercise.  You may also want to get a pedometer - walking is a great starter exercise and the pedometer will keep you honest about exactly how much you're doing.

    162.  Have gained 4 and 1/2 lbs back from my lost weight down to 157.5.  DH's birthday did me in.  We've been having a slice of his birthday carrot cake for dessert every night.  It's almost gone!

I will keep up the struggle. .

    Up two.

Coincidentally, I just happened to eat an entire two pound bag of m&m's all by myself over a stressful weekend.

    WHY??????!!!!!

Back on now. Learned my lesson. (Again.)

Hi all, I hope you dont mind if I join you on this thread? I gained over 20 pounds during chemo with the steroids and the "feeling sorry for myself" eating and inactivity. About ten have come off with little effort but now I am stuck at this plateau and needing to lose another 10-15 to feel really good.

I got a pedometer to increase my steps at work, am doing more stairs, and using my exercise bike once again. I will check out loseit, thanks!

Just wanted to say thank you for all of the advice on this thread. Thanks!!

Welcome sciencegal! The more (or should I say 'less' Undecided) the merrier. The loseit people will wonder what is going on with their big spike in membership!

Hi, haven't posted in awhile either.  Was down Wednesday but back up today.  Keep hovering around the same 2 lbs.

Welcome Candie and sciencegal.  Way to go Dulcigirl.

ruthbru, I also did much better on loseit so think I will also restart it.  I did WW about 15 years ago and lost about 23 lbs but put them all, plus some, back on when I stopped.  May try again just to get the local support for a spell although I think a lot has changed about how they work now.  Perhaps WW coupled with loseit.com will do the trick.

Down 300 grams. It must be all the sweating in the heat wave we're having.

At 169.4, a 2 pound weight gain from last week's vacation. I ate more and even though I walked the beach each day 30-60 minutes (less aerobic, no yoga, more sweets. Makes sense but is still disappointing! How's that for logic?

I am determined to lose those two pounds this week!

Hope everyone had a better weigh in than I did!

Back to my "lowish." Definition? The lowest I've been since joining this thread. But I've been here twice before....so not a LOT of progress, but at least I'm heading in the right direction.
