Hey Kate, I didn't suffer morning sickness at all with my pregnancy (12 years ago) but the nausea from chemo was horrific (I lost 20 kilos in 3 weeks). I was sick to the point that I had my swag permenantly on the bathroom floor so I didn't have to move far from my 'bed' to the loo or the shower. I'd just start feeling good and I'd have to go in for another infusion . . . . it was a long 12 weeks :S
Chrissy, I've suddenly taken up sewing !! I can barely thread a needle but a sewing machine my Nan bought me about 5 years ago is no longer being used as a door stop. I was inspired by a applique wall hanging I saw in Berrima so I've bought a heap of material and have started to plan . . . well, plan as best as I can when I have no idea at all !!!
Aussie12, I've had more colds since surgery too - I notice it more now because my partner and daughter don't get them as often as me. I also 'hold' onto them longer. I've had a chest infection that started as an innocent cold for 2 weeks. Both my partner and daughter got the cold a few days after me and it 'cycled' through them in about 4 days . . . .
Trish - friends like that are worth their weight in gold - glad you have someone like that in your life
Jenn, Susie, Linda and Racy and any others getting together in Brisbane: HAVE A LOVELY TIME ! Oh and Jenn - get a new oncologist !!

I am (naturally) the opposite of the rest of you. I used to get horrendous flus before chemo. Guaranteed to lose my voice for a week a year during the worst one but would get 4 or 5 a year and they would linger. Now, post chemo, I get the flu shot and get one a year. Just finished this years one and as Ive said in posts on here, I had the conjuctivitis, aches and pains, runny nose but not the heavy chest conjestion and blocked nose and it was al over within 5 or so days (plus I worked 3 x 10 hours days with it which I NEVER could have done before). Weird huh
I dont care where we meet Suzie, but perhaps the kitchen cafe at the casino would be smart as theres too many entrances at the casino and would hate to have 1 of us waiting at the wrong one.
Very much looking forward to tomorrow.

Lyndal - trouble is I don't know where it is in there - is it the old Cafe 21? or is in the hotel behind? I'll see if I can find out

Ha ha never 'in foal'. Queasy a lot for up to 10 days after each chemo. I always took steroids and Emend.
Taxotere is very harsh I believe. Hopefully good at killing cancer too.0 -
Kelpie, good on you for taking up sewing. Did you learn at school?
You may be able to find a class through community education.
I am not a sewer but admire those who sew or knit.0 -
Morning from across the ditch.
Kelpie look fo a sewing class - what type of machine do you have? Some of the machine shops actually hold classes at a small price.
Have a great get together in Brisbane - I am jealous.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Well I've never been pregnant, and I have to say that for me FEC wasn't too bad. Had some queasiness but nothing the meds didn't help. Taxotere however was another story, couldn't do that one again.
I never used to get colds or flu very much before bc, sometimes went a couple of years without getting a cold. But the year I was dx had two really bad colds one after the other. Never had anything during treatment - including the year on Herceptin, but then had two colds recently one after the other, and still sniffly a month later.
Not sure how that fits in with the research :-)
I'm cleaning windows today! Lots of energy lol. Tomorrow I'm the "official" photographer for day two of the Australian Photographic Society's annual conference. Just what I always wanted to do- take photos of and in front of my peers lol

Hi girls, hey hope everybody has a great weekend, Just enquiring about herceptin, how is it actually administered, you mention infusion, what is that exactly?, i did not have to have it. but more curious in learning all about things in hope that i wont need it, so if anybody can educate me, i would love to hear. thanks midnight

Midnight an infusion is liquid passed through an IV and into a vein.
Kelpie do find a starters class for sewing it will help you immensely and Im sure you will love it when you get started. The biggest tip I can give you is don't expect perfection to begin with, it will come with time and also choose projects that are simple. As you do better with the simple one move on to more diffcult projects......goodluck!
Yup-, here was me thinking I had things all organized......not so.....lol.....as I was cleaning the back verandah I found another large container holding more of my stuff so my nice tidy area is now not so tidy....again....lol. I promise, once I've got it all in place I will post some pics.
Ooo I hope you girls who are meeting up in Brizzy have a fabulous day! Don't forget that the rest of us have expectations of photos to proove it happened.....lol......not that we doubt that but we want to see!!!!!! Yes we want to participate as voyeurs......lol. Can't wait until the December one comes around.....oooooo sooooo exciting....oh yeah!!!
I used to love having a masage and I got them for free as my DD2 is a trained masseuse. Her hands are so strong that I'd have to remind her that I wasn't one of her football player clients. Once I was Dx'd and had surgery she refused to give me more than just a gentle rub and since I was dx'd stage IV ......well.....nada. She says she's too afraid of doing me damage so would rather not. I understand how she's thinking but oh I do miss those lovely masages.
On the topic of illness with chemo.....well let me put it this way......my DD1 who was doing my care, said that she thought people were joking when they said they were green with illness until I was treated.......she said my colour was just the, green. I felt so sick I was truly misserable but I did not throw up once. Sometimes I think it's better to throw up than not as it seems to settle the system a bit. Also, I haven't had a cold or flu since I was dx'd. On accasion I'll get a runny nose for twenty four hours but that's it......nothing else. I just say that the bugs take one look at my system and run the other way......lol. DH has had a few really bad colds but I've not got them.
Aly I have your room all organised and I can't wait for you to get here!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Hi Midnight,
Herceptin is only used for HER2+ cancer and is administered IV just like chemo. There is a trial underway at the moment though where it's given as a normal injection and the ladies can give it to themselves and not have to go into hospital every three weeks, which would be wonderful. Sounds like the trial is going well too.

Alyson and Racy: Unfortunately (or fortunately !!) I live 45 minutes from the nearest town. There is a material shop but it only opened about a month ago and they don't hold classes. We don't have a community college and the closest TAFE only really has Ag stuff . . . . So I'm hoping between experimenting and google I should be able to work it out. As for the sewing machine type - well, I was going to say 'a white one' but I got off my butt and looked for a brand - it's a Brother.
Chrissy, your tip is great but a little late :S The 'project' I've started is a 150cm by 80cm appliqued wall hanging - thank goodness I discovered this cool stuff which you iron between material to stick it together before you sew !! I had to buy the flamming iron too as I'm not very domesticated - but if you want your sheep shorn, your tractor services or your cattle mustered then I'm your girl. I can cook out of jar (provided the instructions are super simple and require on pot), wash dishes, wash clothes (but I have no idea what any of the settings really mean) and mop the floor but I certainly am not Martha Stewart . . . . .

oh ok thanks for that, i kinda thought it could be the case administered that way, but did not realise it was called an infusion. now i know, thanks. doing job interviews this evening, from 7pm til ten, 6 of them, half hour each. hope we find somebody decent, a problem free employee, dreams are free i guess, they all different, put their best foot forward, eagar to impress interview and then once you empoly them, the real person emerges. we seen it so many times. like a marriage really, put on the charm and then once you sign the dotted line, they show their true colours, i must admit, i am very lucky with my DH he is very untidy and does not pick up a darn thing after himself, but he is a darling and loves me to bits, can't ask for more than that, its his brother who is a PAIN in the A. Thank God i didnt marry him. sometimes i feel like their mother tho and taken over from where she left off. ogh well get better get ready for the chat to these boys tonight. have a good night ladies.

Good on you for getting stuck in......there's nothing like jumping into the deep end.

Sore feet!!! So much walking today. From our hotel, through the park, across the Friendship Bridge then the entire stretch of Southbank, up in the Eye, through the museum to see the mummies from the British Museum then through the Art Gallery to see the Spanish portrait exhibition. Then we walked all the way back to our hotel again. OW OW OW!
Hubby is now snoozing and we're having a relax before heading out to the Jazz Club.
Since I don't know where the restaurant is either and the casino looked like it is spread across several buildings what about meeting on the Queen and George Streets corner right next to the big stainless steel balls that look like they are made from hundreds of cutlery drainers?
Jenn0 -
Wow Jenn! Busy day!!! Sounds like you need a rest as well as your DH! Have fun tomorrow!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Jenn - that's what I thought would be best - no matter what I search the best info I get is that it's on the ground floor.
See you all on cnr Queen and George at 2:15

Kelpie, as far as I'm concerned, anyone who can shear a sheep, service a tractor, muster cattle and go through chemo can do any bloody thing they set their mind to lol We'll look forward to seeing a picture of the finished product :-)
Midnight, I hope you find a gem of a truck driver, good luck!
Jenn, enjoy - you deserve it
Trish

Good on you for having a go, Kelpie..........if you need to know anything about the machine, sewing, tips etc., try Youtube.
You can find 'how to's' on just about anything there.
Sheila.

I wrote a post earlier but it doesn't seem to have saved.
You ladies are all funny!
Jenn, that would be the Goodwill Bridge, named after the Goodwill games circa 2001.
Meeting at the giant collander thingy sounds fine.0 -
hi Girls, did our interviews last night, there were three to choose from, we did six and they were the first three. one i actually liked from the phone call too, he was hubbys pick too. i am by womens inner feeling, feel quite happy with him, he has only had two jobs in his life where he has stayed at both for a good length of time and only got made redudant as work was not enough to keep him on. so i hope he gets it and the other one gets the other role, which is a parttime casual, depending on these other drivers we already have, how things go,with that. one was having a procedure done last week as he has been having swallowing problems, even mashed potatoes and the have found something half way down his throat which he will be seeing a spealist about, so really depends on him and this pther naughty boy we have on board that had to be removed from the run he was on or sack him, we did get pressure put on us to do so, but chose to put him on another run to calm the situation down as we not quite sure he is all to blame, think there is set up. we will back him, til we find otherwise. i do hope things will settle down soon, don't need the stress, hubby is forever getting headaches and has secaters in his ears, a buzzing all the time, i think he has high BP. his old man did and BIL has it, trying to get DH to Doc, but they think they are bullet proof. talk to a brick wall. have a good day girls.

Great afternoon!
Tucked in bed in my hotel room now. Very busy weekend...
Jenn0 -
Yes Jenn, you need an early night. I can understand you would be exhausted. So nice to meet the ladies today, especially Jenn since she won't be here in December. But a lot of us will have met her, except Chrissy and Kate I think.

Steve didn't end up getting home until 7:45pm!!!!! - drat - I could have stayed longer. BUT I did get some watering done. Skyped with our daughter in Adelaide - Nicholas looks SO much like she did at that age. He was smiley for us for a little while and then decided he was hungry.

Well girls I've finally finished sorting and stacking and organising! Ta-daaa!
There are a couple of cupboards as well but I need to go through all the stuff I put imn them and organise it a little better........but that can wait until I'm in the mood.
I have just recieved the pure lace knitting silk that I ordered a couple of weeks ago and I'm almost done with jumper number 4 for DH so the next thing on my to do list is knit each of my girls a silk shawl as a keepsake or to use if the mind takes them. The colour is Ecru so should look lovely once thyey are done. I need to get a 36" circular needle before I can start though.......grrr! I just knew I'd forget something........lol.......never mind, it will give me an excuse to go shopping on the net....yahooo!
Hope you weekend was a good one and Mondayitis didn't set in.
Love n hugs all. Chrissy

Morning all
Chrissy, love the room and can't wait to see it. However what were you doing up so late!!!! You should have been in bed.
DDS and his wonderful Fiancee will be home today. And DD is getting everything sorted to go to Canada, not sure I like that bit, will be July next year, oh dear but if they don't do it now they will regret it but they are taking my little ones which is so sad.
Have onc appointment today and hopefully will graduate to once a year we will see. Thought that once I had stopped the Femara things would improve but actually some of the pain is worse so will have to discuss this with him today.
Have a good day.

Chrissy your sewing area looks fabulous! I have exactly the same sewing cupboard - if I remember rightly it's a Horn sewing cabinet? lol shows how much I use mine. I'm hopeless at sewing. I have an old sewing machine, and haven't used it for years. DH uses it occasionally to hem new jeans. Last time he got it out it wouldn't sew properly - I think there's something wrong with the timing as it doesn't seem to be lining up properly. We have no clue how to fix it, and as it gets used so infrequently it's not worth having it looked at. But the cabinet holds all sorts of usesful things - mainly my knitting stuff lol.
Yes - it is quiet on here, I will be off line for a few days after today. Going to Sydney tomorrow and back on late Thursday night. It's for work though, so no time for shopping *sigh*.
Hope everyone else is going well? Just too busy to post?
Trishxoxo
