Hope your Christmas was as wonderful as mine. This was the table before dinner. And this is waiting for pudding,

This was Christmas Eve, then yesterday we had a light lunch, took MiL home and after a sandwich for tea we watched Pride and Prejudice - all five hours. Wonderful Christmas.

Sorry to be back asking questions so soon after Christmas ladies, but need some reassurance.

Can anyone tell me if there is a problem here? I haven't had any pain to speak of, just if I touched the area around the surgery it felt bruised. My pec muscle is still swolen, I think that was where the Sentinal Node was taken.

Now I have a tight burning pulling sensation high in the armpit and under my arm. When I reach around with my other hand into the armpit and around the back it is supersensitive on the skin and the area on my back, just past the finish of the new scar is totally numb.

I am hoping that this is just what happens when the anti-inflammatory that the surgeon said he filled the wound with has worn off, but I am not sure. I had a really painful extraction of the drain on day 5, this is day 7, no pooling of fluid that I can see, but area is still swolen. Weird sensations in the scar too, but I expect that.

Am I expecting too much, too soon? Apart from fatigue, I feel really good in myself.

Thanks again ladies, your help is really appreciated.

Ariom, its early days yet, take things slowly. You could have that numbness for a long time because the nerves have been cut. Do watch the swelling though, if it doesn't go get it checked out. Do your arm exercises but don't over do them Be gentle with yourself.

Thanks so much for the quick response Alyson!I really appreciate your time.

The numbness really doesn't bother me much. It is the burning pulling sensation high in the armpit that is my main concern. I have almost complete range of arm movement and I am doing the exercises 4 times a day as instructed, with no problems.

I guess I am just looking for the reassurance that these strange sensations are normal.

Ariom you are getting the sensation now as whatever the doc put in there has worn off. He has pulled tissue together and sewn it internally and the pulling/burning you are feeling is where he has repaired. Take it ease and don't do too much with your arm, just the exercised as prescribed. What you feel is quite normal but don't be alarmed is you feel it for weeks as nerves are also trying to mend.

    Hi Chrissy! Thanks!

I was hoping that was the reason for these strange feelings. I try not to google because there is so much misinformation out there. I much prefer to rely on you girls for advice.

I had a pain syndrome called "cprs" when I had my big hand surgery, so I have been acutely aware that I could still have problems after this surgery too. Hopefully not, I just wasn't expecting this burning pulling sensation. The numbness doesn't bother me at all. It is just the hyper sensitivity of the skin that is bothersome. If I know it is normal, I don't stress.

The District Nurse removed the plastic dressing today and cleaned the scar up. It looks great, no redness at all. It is completely flat and very fine too, she said there is no pooling of fluid either. I have been so paranoid about infection because of what happened to my Mother after her Mastectomy. The nurse put on some betadine and a light dressing over the scar.

Ican't believe that  exactly a week ago I was still in surgery having this op, and now I have no drains and no dressing. Amazing, what they can do now with surgery.

Have a great day Chrissy, and thanks for taking the time to answer!

Hi Ariom the others have answered your questions, and I just wanted to add that I was super sensitive too. The skin felt really weird for quite a long time after. It's only been a week, so you have a fair way to go. You've done really well so far, my drain was in for over two weeks!

Aly your Christmas table looked lovely!

We had a very cool day here yesterday, top temp was only 17 degrees, I'm sorry for those of you who had a hot day.

We've just been into the pictures to see Le Miserables, it was a disappointment. While the acting was superb, the sound was abysmal, the singing not very good and the whole thing quite depressing. I know it's not a story of sweetness and light, but the stage show is just so uplifting despite the story, but the movie made you want to throw yourself under a bus. At least it was cheap, only $20 for the two of us. And I finally got in our new car, we've only had it 5 days, and I hadn't even sat in it lol.

    Hi,

This is my first post! Despite diagnosis and surgery, I think I've been in denial up until now and haven't really wanted to join a forum...until I read a few of your posts and realised you are a very supportive bunch.

I am now 6 weeks post lumpectomy surgery and still suffering from a seroma and hard tissue in the breast. The seroma has been drained a number of times and I have been massaging the area and it is improving. I also have some hard lumps (fibrosis?) which I need to massage as well. Any advice on technique?

I am worried this problem will delay me moving to radiation. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Cheers

    Hi Tricia, Lovely car!

Thanks for the response, just glad to hear I am not the only one with the weird sensations.

What a shame the movie wasn't what you expected, but as you said, not a hugely expensive exercise. Had a chuckle about wanting to throw yourself under a bus though! That's a bad movie.

Hi Tammy, not sure how one massages the lumps etc but someone is sure to give you an answer. This is a great place to chat and ask questions. Some off us have been around awhile and still find we have issues to face.

Three days of eating - I am over it and so tomorrow I am back on track. Well at least for a few days.

    Big hugs.

Welcome Tammy, glad youve found us and hope we can help.

Unfortunately I dont have specific knowledge on how to massage fibrosis either. I did have nightly claxane injections in my stomach for 6 months due to a blood clot during tx which caused hard lumps from leaking fluid and hitting blood vessels all over my belly, I was told to softly yet firmly rub them in a circular manner to try to ease the pain and make them dissappitate quicker. Guess that advice is fairly safe for you too, but I dont think it worked cause I had those lumps a looong time and kept getting them till I could finally stop the injections. Maybe you could see if your hospital has a Physical Therapist who could show you how best to deal with them? Thats who I contacted to get lymph drainage massage techniques and they really are experts.

Hope someone with specific experience will come along soon to share knowledge with you.

Lol Trish, thanks for the movie review, think I will avoid that one Laughing and save my money. Congratz on the car, I love Hyundai too as you know. Btw, glad you didnt throw yourself under that bus, would have missed you horribly lol.

Ariom, your burning sensation and what I felt as a scraped sensation are most likely the same. It does ease off till you dont feel it anymore, over time. My underarm used to look really sunken after the lymphs were removed, but now it seems to have repaired itself and it looks just like the other one, and for the most part feels normal. I have regained most sensation at the back now too, but it did take a few years. All I can say is that the initial tightness in the chest and underarm area do sink into the background so you dont notice it on a day to day basis. Years later, if I do too much or move in a different position I can feel tightness, but it doesnt last more than a few minutes most times and quickly fades back into just being normal again.

Hope everyone else is having a good time and feeling well.

Hi Tammy so sorry you need to join us but glad you have.  You will find a lot of support in this thread and over the whole forum for that matter.

The technique for massage of most things other than lymphadema is firm but gentle circular motion two or three times a day.  The fibrosis you feel could be scar tissue forming where the wound is healing internally but the masage will help to keep it from becoming knots.  The thing to remember is not to make it sore.  I would use the flat of the fingers rather than finger tips. As long as you are healing well there shouldn't be a delay with your rads but only your doc can tell you that.

Oh I feel like a slug!  I have eaten so much over the last couple of days my system is going on strike!.......lol.......at least there is no need to cook as there is sooooo much left overs I think it will tae at least another day or two to get through it all!

Well that's Christmas done and dusted and we are heading very quickly toward the new year.........OMG!!  ALREADY?!   Here's hoping that the new one brings only good things for us all.

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

i also have to inject daily for blood clots and have hard lumps all over my tummy, good to know once you stop injecting they disappear.

Chrissy, your advice agrees with what I've read on the web so I'll try that and give my breast care nurse a call in the new year. I'll let you know how I get on.

Enjoy the rest of the silly season.

Good Morning girls and new ladies welcome. i am a Kiwi, but love coming over here to join the Aussie girls, they are an awsome bunch. we have  kiwi thread too, so feel free to hop across the tasman and meet some of the ladies on the  nz one. we have a united forum and everybody is welcome. i am not full of knowledge as these ladies are. but i can be supportive  and  be an encouragment. Gosh its heavenly weather today. it has cooled right down, last few days have been sitting down sweating, was 31 yesterday, and today 22. it was very uncomfortable yesterday and xmas, dont how you ladies can handle such high temps, it was sun hot and humid. Yesterday the farrier came and did the minitures horses feet, some of them had got abit over the top, we did have a farrier who used to do shanas, the clysdale , she is no longer with us, but that farrier has done a disapearing act, cant get hold of him. perhaps he has gone back to Canada. but have this new guy, we did the donkey too, but she needs it done again in 8 weeks, she has never had it done, she was a wild donkey, so you could not get near her. trying to catch her was a mission, hubby is all grazed down one leg where he was trying to hold her to catch her. hubby covered her eyes and she stayed still while it was done. she will feel better walking today. they all will. so it was a real horsey day yesterday. well hope you all have a good day ladies.

Hi Liv, glad I did a twofer lol. In all seriousness you have my deepest sympathy, we both know the claxane doesnt hurt, but its a royal pain in the neck isnt it. I used to dread 6pm cause thats when I would sit down to watch the news and to give myself the needle. Think it was only a few weeks or so for my stomach to return to normal after I was finally allowed to stop the claxane. Have they said as to when you can come off the claxane? In my case it wasnt until after my port was removed Frown

Had a minor work accident yesterday. Sliced a good chunk out of my pinky finger and it wouldnt stop bleeding (not related to the claxane). Good thing the medical centre 2 doors down from my shop was open. Darted in there literally dripping blood. Took an hour for it to slow down enough to be able to get it bandaged up and had to call in someone to cover the rest of my work shift and had to pay double time for the priveledge Cry. Such a stupid silly thing to do and its gonna be a major inconvenience considering I have been trying to do as many hours as I can to save wages, specially with the penalty rates applicable so much at this time of year.

Oh Linda, sorry about your finger, especially since I know how hard you've been working to make ends meet over the hold. Hope you can get back into it soon xox

Yep I'm glad I didn't throw myself under the bus too lol.

Tammy and Liv glad you got answers, there's always someone on here that knows the answer to something.

Well I picked a couple of buckets of red and black currants last night, so making some big batches of chutney today. The currant bushes went crazy this year, and there's still so much fruit left on them, I'll never get to use them all. Linda pity your shop wasn't closer, I could keep you in chutneys and relishes all year round I think!

    Have a great day girls.

Oh Linda! I hate cut fingers as they seem to take so long to heal and stay really sore for even longer. What a bummer that it happened right now at this time of year! Sure hope it doesn't end up costing you a fortune.

Trish I love the fresh picked currants just to eat as they are! We used to be able to buy them but I've not seen them even in the markets for years which is such a shame as they are sooooo yummy and fresh chutney and relish from them?..........oh man I can taste it now!!!!!!

Midnight work on a farm never seems to end but I. Sure the animals will thank you for having treated their feet.........as we all know, sore feet are the pits not just for us but for them as well.

Well DD1, FSIL and GS1 have just left to go back to the city but DD2 and GS2 are still here and will be until Saturday. Lovely! And even better, GS loves to cook and got a small BBQ for Christmas so has been cooking bacon an eggs on the Barby each morning for all of us.........it's been yummmm! Tonight he wants to cook proper BBQ......am I protesting?........not on your life!......loving it!.........lol.

    Have a good one all.

I really should be thinking about getting a meal organised but it is so humid, actually not as bad as the last couple of days but still well into the 80% mark. Every bone in my body aches.

I had to get my car valeted (sp) because on Friday I had bought all my groceries and happened to leave a bag of meat in the car - I found it on Sunday. Do I need to say more but the smell was terrible, luckily the chicken hadn't exploded but it was close.

Had lovely morning with DDs and Miss Bea, she is growing up so fast.

Hope you have all had a restful day and that you haven't had to work too hard.

    Big hugs.

Hey girls, when cooking roast pork, i have not done it much, but when getting prepared, what seasoning  are best for it, its a garlic and herb salt ok or just ordinary plain salt, i cooked  a small bit the other night, but for a big peice of pork, what seasoning is best.?

Midnight for roasting I just use salt and oil rubbed into the skin after scoring. Very hot oven for half an hour then turn it down to med heat and continue roasting. If you are cooking a small amount of pork with no crackling, I use apples and a small amount of ground cloves and cinnamon. The sweetness of the apples goes real well with the pork and of course cloves and cinnamon goes really well with both.
