Midnight, sorry to hear about your little white cat.
Kylie, I live in Sydney but we also have a property in the Capertee Valley in NSW.
It is just a little mud brick hut but it has always been a great place to relax and live in the moment. Right now it is a place it where I can listen to the birds and enjoy the fresh air and forget for a while.
I hope you all have a little haven to escape now and then!0 -
midnight - so sorry for your loss of your kitty.
linda - ouch, hope the finger is not too much of a handicap and healing quickly.
everyone else - hope your all enjoying the break if you are having one.

Thanks Girls, i wish i could wipe the happenings from my mind, i keep seeing it over and over again. Chrissy it is the one that followed me down the road that day and they beeped at me to warn me i had a follower. yes her. the lady who hit her had tears in eyes, but it was an accident, BJ should not of been across the road and gone on it, no road sense. she has only been speyed two weeks ago. going to really miss her following me and waking me up for brecky in the mornings. she was such a happy little mite and played with everything even the vets stethiscope around her neck gave her enjoyment and that is how i will look upon her 10 months. she was born in a box on our bed and hubby helped her to be born as she was looking like she was breach, but he managed to get her out b4 a vet had to be involved. so she was a special baby in alot of ways. the profile pic is BJ at a 6 weeks. her mum is named bubba, so she got bubba junior shortened to BJ. she would be a year 11th feb.

Midnight I'm so sorry to hear about this, so sad ((((hugs))))
Tammy, the Capertee Valley is a beautiful place. My father-in-law used to live in Kandos, and we'd always stop at the lookout just to soak in the incredible view. I can understand you being able to relax there.

So sorry about your little kiitie midnight :-(
Glad to see everyone chatting away. I've been quiet as I'm still not feeling great after the surgery last week which has sent my stomach muscles back into regular muscle spasms like it was doing for weeks after my reconstruction. And now I seem to be getting a cold as well. Energy levels are pretty low for me so I have been reading and relaxing.
We had a nice Christmas Day down in Kiama with my cousin and their family. We managed to get a flat tyre (the car our daughter drove down) and a flat battery that needed replacing (the car we drove down). Then I managed to drop my iPad on the concrete deck floor on Christmas evening :-( We all came back a bit grumpy.
I have to go back to work on Wednesday next week so am trying to enjoy the last few days off. We have people due for dinner this evening and I bought a jigsaw puzzle this morning so am hoping to get into that.
I have been trying to make the list of 10 activities that I used to enjoy that the psych asked me to make. Reading, reading comics and jigsaws are all on the list. I am reading The Help (no, I didn't see the movie), have downloaded some Archie comics onto my iPad (a new one - $350 to replace the broken one) and got the jigsaw today.
These have all been helping but I am finding myself still feeling sad a lot. I will be a bit quieter here for a bit because I think I need to stop concenrating so much on cancer...

Oh that is just too sad Midnight. So sorry that you lost your kitten and also that you were unfortunate enough to witness it. Just rotten all around.
We had a lovey christmas day (evening) so we had a very relaxing day. Sarah is the queen of games so she had us all up playing charades and card games. Everyone just started off being polite by playing but in the end everyone was comitted and as Sarah knew would happen, they all thoroughly enjoyed it and we played for a solid 3 hours. Glad it's over though. Every year I tell myself I'm not going to get sucked into all the trappings etc, and of course every year I do - in fact I think I out do myself each year! I must say it was nice to have a christmas time for the first time in 3 years. I bought a black one from Big W and heaps of decorations, and it looks a treat. It was a pain to put up, each branch separately and then unfolding them. I'm going to cheat this year, and carry it into the spare room, cover it in a sheet and leave it there until next Christmas.
Has anyone got any new years resolutions? Mines the usual - loose weght. Oh I am having my LVEF scan on Friday, earlier than usual, but Onc wants to check my level before my next Herceptin as it is getting on the low side. I'm feeling fine but he said if it goes any lower he will have to stop my H. I think I only have about 5 or 6 to go. The end of all of this is now within reach.
Hellishly hot here, high 30's everyday so I've been watching lots of movies. My christmas favourites, Love Actually and the NOtebook.
Take care everyone xxxx

Hi everyone, just read through all your recent posts. Nice to catch up with what everyone has been doing.
So sorry to hear about your car trouble and dropping your ipad Jenn, it's one thing after another that really craps you off.
I feel for you feeling sad too, but understand that you feel some time away from here may help you. Your input will be missed though, and thanks for helping me out when I really needed it.
I went out shopping today, the first time my toe has been pain free enough for me to get around. I went to the Lingerie shop in Bairnsdale, the largest town near us. I was pleasantly surprised, they have all the things I have found online that interest me. I was just disappointed that I have to wait so long to have the fittings, but at least I know I can get what I want locally. The sales lady asked me if I was going to have a mastectomy soon, told her it was already done. She asked if I was wearing an underwire at the moment, I said I was, but not tight, she told me to stop immediately as it can irritate, so I went to Target and bought some of the knitted Ahh Bra thingies, perfect! I bought them larger than my size so as not to be too tight, and fitted the softee from my free bra from the Breast Nurse. Works a treat!
I have been getting around in a shirt with tissues stuffed in the breast pocket would you believe!
I'd love some advice on what forms everyone prefers, it looks like a bit of a minefield out there with choices. I like the look of the Amoena that can attach to the body..anyone have one, or two of these?
0 -
Ariom - I haven't had a mast. but a lady I know has two Amoena which attach to her body. She showed me and she absolutely loves them, because they stick and also feel more natural. She said they are much better than her previous type and not hot in summer.
I have my 1 year mammo and US this Thursday and Onc visit on Friday. How time flies....

Ariom I wear an Amoena prosthesis. Mine isn't the one that sticks to your body, but tucks into the bra. When I got mine it was only 8 weeks after surgery and the stick on one wasn't an option, I was told it had to be longer. I'm not sure that I would choose it anyway. The one I have is fine, I do look forward to taking it off when I get home, but it's fine.
I forgot to tell you to get an Ahhh Bra! lol I wear them now as I found a lot of bras were just too uncomfortable. They are great!
Jenn - hope you feel better soon - I know how you feel, I was where you are now 12 months ago. It does get better sweetie - honestly. You have to focus on what makes you happy and that way the cancer gradually slips into the background. (((hugs)))
Kylie good luck for Thursday and Friday - I'll be thinking of you - keep us posted.
How are you girls going that are still on chemo? I hope you were able to enjoy Christmas? ((((hugs)))) to you too.

Kylie, thanks for that info about your friend's feelings on these prosthesis, it is appreciated. There is so much out there.
Congratulations on your one year milestone too! It is amazing how time flies. I felt like the time would never pass while I was waiting for results, and then the Surgery, but wow it is almost January now.
Trish, thanks for your info too. When I went to the shop yesterday, the young woman who helped me was really full of great information. She called the Amoena Contact the "Rolls Royce" of the range. She showed me several others too. The contact one comes with cool cover backing so you can use it like a normal prosthesis that fits into the pocket of a bra. Apparently you don't necessarily want or need to wear it attached all the time. I like the sound of that idea, it also has a temperature control built into it so it isn't to hot in warm weather. She said I couldn't be fitted for at least six weeks, and the stick on isn't an option for six months, so wearing it in the pocket for six months would work, and then have the option of attaching it when I want to. The other interesting point with the Contact was that they also have the selling point that the medical grade silicone backing is going to assist in the scar healing. I had a silicone strip that my Surgeon gave me after my hand surgery and it worked really well.
I just bought the Ahh Bra because it looked like it would support without being too tight. I actually bought a set of three in a larger size so it wouldn't constrict. Do you sew pockets into the Ahh Bra Trish? or just tuck it in to the bra? I still have this awfull tight, burning, numbness under my arm and anything rubbing on it is yuck! I wore the Ahh Bra for a few hours last night with a softee in it and it was fine, but as you say, great to take it off.
I am slowly learning all the little tricks from all of you who have gone before me. hanks so much for sharing!

Hi there girls.
My daughter and I are coming up to Brisbane for a week in January and I would love the advice of any locals about the best area to stay and things to do.
Michaela is attending a dance workshop all day Monday to Friday at QUT Kelvin Grove campus so she will need to be able to get there by bus each day. I am not up to much heavy walking so was thinking about staying in the Southbank area so I can do things during the day. We can afford a reasonably nice apartment, I just want to make sure the location is right for transport etc.
It's nice to post something that isn't cancer related isn't it!
Cheers

Ariom, my favourite prosthesis is a silique breast form which I find wonderful especially for me as I have such a dip in my chest. It is very light and hasmicro beads at the back which mould to you chest. It slips into the pockect of my bra. I actually bought it in Aus. At Runnaway Bay at 'Champagne for Breakfast' a lovely shop with great people. I also wear something similar to the Ahh Bra but it has pockets its a Thin Lizzy bra and I think some of the Ahh bras actually have then as well, the ones that have a foam 'booster' in them.
Started getting some things done in the garage then DH got a phone call and so has gone out to work as he needs some info to answer a question. It is busy time for him at present and today they are very busy getting fruit and veges off overseas.

Hi girls, just sitting around after all the hurry of before and during Christmas .......lol. I'll have to get off my behind to,or row as we have been invited to spend New Years Eve with the owners of the Italian Restaurant. They have invited a few people but they are not opening the restaurant but have asked that we all bring a plate so DH has requested that I make Apple Flapum and Olle Bollem to take. They are two traditional Dutch things that are made for New Year and I learnt to make them from my DH's mother many years ago. They are not hard just time consuming as the Olle Bollem are a yeast based dough and need time and warmth to rise before deep frying.
Ariom when I wear a prosthetic I use the Amoena the same as Trish but I've seem Alys and I think the next one I get will be the same as hers as I am also hollow and the small beads at the back mould better to the chest than the Amoena one does.
Jenn we will miss you but understand that you need to do whatever you need to do in order to get well both physically and mentally.
Got to go ge the washing in and fold it......yuk!......a woman's work is never done!
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
One furious woman here - been without internet access since yesterday afternoon. Apparently my email account was compromised and spam was being sent using my email address. No email suggesting I change my password - nothing. Called once - got an Indian - he says there's nothing wrong. Called again last night and actually got an Aussie - he found out my account had been suspended for suspected abuse. He texted me a new password and I was supposed to change it. Well how do you do that if you have no internet access. Called again this morning - got an Indian - he assured me the Abuse dept would call today - bullshit.
Then I had a bright idea - I called a friend and went to their place, logged in to my account on Optus and changed the password. Came home and it works. What a load of crap!!!! The Abuse Dept is supposed to call me at work - well they are going to get an earful. It's not like my pc had a virus, this all happened on another computer somewhere. Fair enough to stop your email account, but to totally disconnect you from the internet is outrageous.
Sorry for the rant.
On another note:
Angela - Southbank might be a bit hard for your daughter to get to Kelvin Grove. The city would be better. I live just a little north of there so travel the route every day. Meanwhile I'll check if there are any buses for you. If you were at Southbank, she would have to walk to the city to get a bus.

Suzie, don't they piss you off with all the crap they try and feed you, must think people are dumb, you make sure you give them their pedigree. i am glad you got it sorted and yr internet back, well the heavens have opened and we are having a very wet afternoon, but the temp is glorious. not too hot and not cold, just right. i am tired today, Goldie the dog would not settle last night, so we shoved her out side about four, did not get to sleep properly til about 5 and slept til 11, was shocked when we saw the time, but had a pretty sound sleep, the whole neighbourhood was quiet too, so it was good. but still i am tired, i dont know, doing nothing, makes me tired at times. our little dog heidi is followng us around, she was great mates with our girl BJ that was run over the other day, they played together heaps, even with goldie, she a big dog, but BJ would go and smooch her and play, catch me if you can games, she was a very social animal with them all. i guess they all miss her and wonder what has happened to her. never mind she is at Rainbows bridge playing lots of new games. well have a good rest of day girls.

Poor Goldie - she must miss the kitty so much.
I just posted what happened on the Optus community forums - they seem to be monitored by Optus - we'll see if I get any answers. I want to complain, but they don't have an email address for complaints - just support.

Thanks for the advice Suzie. We might focus on the cbd.
Ariom, I had to wait nearly 6 months to get fitted for my prosthesis (better known as Betty) because I had an issue with seromas and needed another op to fix it. The one I chose was an Amoena Individual Light. I love it's natural look on the outside and the very soft and maliable backing. When I can be bothered I pop it inside a pocket, both proper mastectomy bras and some of my old favourites I sewed a loose pocket into. Most of the time I just slip it inside my bra, although that gets a bit sweaty in summer. A great tip for winter is to leave it under the covers of your bed when you have your morning shower so it is a little warm against your skin.
I also bought an Amoena swim form (I named her Dawn of course) which goes inside my bathers when I swim.
Having said all that, I still use the old Berlei soft form alot, especially with a shelf singlet around the house, otherwise, lopsided is just fine around here.
Jenn I understand your thinking and wish you all strength and joy throughout 2013 and beyond.
Cheers everyone

Angela - I just checked, there are no buses from Sth Brisbane to Kelvin Grove. My bus used to go via Sth Brisbane, but it stopped going there years ago.

Angela, the apartment Trish, Kate & I stayed at was Oaks on Margaret, it was a 2 bed apartment with a balcony and it was superb. Absolutely loved it, only problem is I dont know about the buses and how far either of you would have to go to catch one. Still its worth checking out. Couldnt praise it highly enough as a place to stay.

Thanks Alyson, I have been online looking at that prosthesis I am wondering how the sizing works. I am also interested in the swim one as I want to get back to water aerobics when I can. So Angela, I will be trying that one out. I love the tip about putting it inthe bed while you shower to warm it up. I'd never have thought of that.
Thanks Chrissie, love the sound of the things you're going to cook for that party.
Thanks Angela, I am likely to name my bits too! I am keeping an eye on everything as I am nervous of seromas too. Not really sure what I am looking for, but watching for any changes. I have looked at all the different Amoena products as the sales lady gave me one of their brochures that have everything in it, and she spent ages with me going through everything including bathers. I guess she could see a big sale coming!
I met a woman at the Pink Ladies meeting a few weeks ago who goes swimming, and she told me she stuffed a facewasher in her bathers which ended up coming free and floating softly to the pool bottom. How embarrassing!
I am not sure yet what my chest will finish up like. It is pretty flat and straight to my eye at the moment. I am very grateful that my Surgeon took the initiative and fixed a bit of skin pucker I had, I believe it was sun damage. He took the scar a bit further over and smoothed out the skin so it is flat and unwrinkled. Can't complain about that.
Well thanks again everyone for coming to the rescue! I really enjoy hearing from you all. It isn't stuff my girlfriends know anything about, and I have to say some of them haven't taken this too well. Maybe a bit close to home for some.

Angela - one of the buses to Kelvin Grove leaves from opposite the post office. Not sure about the others - I can try and find out the numbers for you and where they leave from.

Thanks Suzie. I think Michaela is now going to do some Internet research for herself. The dance company will also give her some info, so I'm sure we'll work it all out.
Cheers0 -
Angela - there is the 390 which leaves from Queen St Stop 74 near Creek St and the 325 which leaves from Queen St Stop 56 near Edward Street. This will help you choose an hotel.
