    Evening all

Can I defend the NZ health system. I did write to Annette this morning because her treatment is shocking. My GP looked after me while I was waiting for tests and then operation for hiatus hernia etc. Suspect it is the nurse. I would have gone really mad. My sister has had bowel cancer and she had the colonoscopy within weeks and was then straight into the system.

Jenn, you should be jumping up and down about your mother as all colonoscopies are to be done within 6 months. Her GP should be contacting the hospital. But I do have to ask which hospital is she under?

I have nothing but praise for the public system especially where cancer is concerned and for heart issues but that is Auckland and it is a teaching hospital. I have had things privately - mastectomy for one but that was because we have insurance but it was no quicker than in the public. I did go over to the public for chemo and radiation. One of the big problems with the private system here is they have no emergrncy services so if things go wrong you are straight over to the public. There are long waiting lists for some non urgent operations and that is why many people have insurance to cover things like knee and hip replacements

Trish I do hope you are feeling a lot better - what a thing to happen.

Chris, what have you been up to? Look after yourself.

Must go and finish a couple of things

    Big hugs

Hey Alison, Mum is in Auckland and always seems to get sent to North Shore Public except for her eyes which she gets sent to the hospital in Epsom for (Middlemore?).

Has anyone heard from Sue lately? Can't remember seeing her...

Kate - how much notice have you given?

Hi Jenn I wonder if she was at North Shore. She will go to Greenlane for her eyes, it is the superclinic for Auckland hospital but they have some departments such as the eye clinic totally there now. North Shore does not have such a great reputation but she does need to be pressing her GP because of the 6 month time limit for getting appointments.

I must get away to bed soon but I am playing games.

Hi all. Good luck house hunting Trisha. Keep us posted won't you? Glad you're feeling better.

If I can get a good airfare I will be there. Maybe we can stay in another apartment together, that worked so well in Brissy and lovely just to have somewhere to sit back and relax with each other. We could all get better deals (airfares and accommodation) if it's not during the school holidays. So maybe early December again?

I phoned my boss and told her and I don't think she was too pleased. I didn't give a specific end date and said I would not leave them in the lurch and would stay until they found a replacement. The word has gone out about the vacancy and I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later. I will see Tania on Monday and if the reception from her is chilly at all, then I will just leave immediately. So, it's now really how she handles me. She has already told one other lady inthe office (who rang and told me) that Tania said she didn't think I could handle it (position). Nah, that is wrong. It is her I couldn't handle. This other lady told me that the only sort of person who would ever be able to handle it would be a weak, boss worshiper and a suck up kind of person, which I have never been. I think that's why she and I clash. I am always very pleasant and professional but I do not suck up the boss ****! So onto the next chapter of my life.

Yes, I'll be curious to see what Darwin is like. I am expecting it would not be my kind of place, too hot, too humid, can't swim in the ocean, bugs and salt water crocodiles! oh and very very expensive. But who knows. I will go up and stay with Paul every so often when he has his leave. I do hear it is lovely mid year when it is dry and not humid. That's when I''ll go.

Is Lyndal still here? I know I have missed out on lots of postings while I was hibernating. Angela sorry that you are having a rough time of it. To everyone else, I hope your all OK and Trisha - eat ya lunch!

Hi Girls,  we went to wellington today, drop off BIL to airport so he could go to Christchurch and pick up this chiller truck he brought, we left at five,  picked up some stuff from wellington from trade me, inclusive of a 5 month old pig, little girl, we calling her Miss Piggy, but she was funny as she was  in a dog kennel in van and kept trying to stand up and look out  back window, like kids do on a bus, people must of thought, what funny looking kids they have, lol, she certainly made a lot of people smile who were driving behind us and were looking at her when they over took us, hope she was not being rude and poking her tongue out at them lol,

BIl will be home about four in morn, is  catching the 10.25 ferry, 3 hours on that., i am woosted tho, that was a term that a down syndrome  girl we used to look after. ie, my mum and i looked after, she  was actually my sisters relation on her hubbys side and we used to take  care of her when her parents went on breaks, they preferred us than putting her in a home, and when she was tired, it was always, i am woosted grandma, she called mum that. She loved  to fold the washing, very fussy too and clean out the knife and fork draw, she loved doing that. and loved her milo and chippys before bed, her treat, if she was good. which was most of time, had her tantrums. but she was ok. i am going now and Chrissy and Trish take care.  and all you lovely ladies take care. relax. gentle hugs.

Yea Alyson, Hubby wants to go in and just ask, who is taking charge or dealing with it as he said, you ask them, its as i said, once the hospital is on it, not there concern and the hospital say, when you ask them something, oh thats for the GP to handle, so you don't get anwers from there either, so he wants to just ask who is handling it all. if i get ill. do i go to GP or the Hospital and as i have not been seen by Hospital for this yet, i have only referal so still the ball is GPs court, is what we are assuming, but he wants to know, where we stand.

    Hello girls

We've bought a house! Yay!  Would you believe we ended up buying the house of the people who bought our house!  They hadn't actually put it on the market yet, were getting it ready, and when the agent told us which suburb it was in (Kate will know this - Monash, which is a lovely suburb and although not the best in Canberra, pretty darn good) I asked how much they wanted for it, then asked if we could look at it before they started to advertise.  They were going to auction it.  Their taste is almost the same as ours, and amazingly there were 4 big pieces of furniture that were exactly the same as what we have.  Walked in and felt at home.  Looked at another 6 houses and made an offer on theirs and was accepted.

So we'll be moving a lot sooner than we thought - everyone is happy and it will be a lot simpler basically exchanging houses, with them paying us the difference.  Once contracts are exchanged, in about 2 weeks or maybe less, settlement will be around 6 weeks later.

Trish, you must be a superwoman!!! Congrats on finding a new home so quickly....but do remember to pace yourself while packing :)

Karen, it is wonderful that your daughter brought you some jewels. You will be able to enjoy them and then have something lovely to leave for them. I know I treasure my dear Mum's jewellery. It is lovely to have that connection when I wear them....she gave me my love of jewellery so it is very special.....

    Alyson, loved the thought!

Aussie, hope you get the all clear to go home soon...

    Angela, thinking of you....

    Best wishes to everyone!

Wow, what a cool thing to have happen Trish. i like it when things just fall into place like that. happy for you, congratulations.

Well our road has claimed another victim, our black cat inky was hit last night, she as a rule never went near the road and hung back, i think she was chased by maybe another cat. She is the mother of all the kittens we sold at beginnig of year, got her speyed and she was just starting to become affectionate as she was not a cat you could just pick up, she was wild when we found her. she was sitting on chair in kitchen curled up when i last saw her about nine and hubby found her about 11 and said, you better come and bring a shovel, i said, who is it, INKY. sigh. she will be with BJ on Rainbows bridge, they were  good mates, well BJ got on with all the animals. she was the one i saw get run over last year. sad end to a good day.

Everyone has been very busy - I love to have lots to read when I pop in.

Trish - I hope you have recovered from your fall, not nice at all. It's wonderful you have found a house you are happy with. Take it easy moving, we didn't have to move much as all our furniture was still in our house and I am still exhausted.

So many to mention, I am thinking of you all.

I would love to meet up in Sydney.

Yesterday my 12yo DS broke his leg (tibia) skateboarding. We spent 6 hours at the hospital and he is home in a cast. The hospital were fantastic, they took him straight in and looked after him beautifully. They made a really bad day as pleasant as it could be.

Trish, great news about your new house!

Kylie, I would like to meet you too in Sydney. I was thinking of December as some of the ladies have birthdays near then and can get holidays from their husbands as presents. Any time from Spring onwards is good for me.

Angela.....thinking of you all the time :) Hoping you're doing ok (((hugs)))

Trisha....goodness me, talk about it all happening to you!! Hope all your bruises are healing & you're taking it easy for awhile :) And the house, what a head spinner that is!!

Kylie.....I hope your son is doing ok, I'm sure he'll get lots of signatures on his plaster at school - & a swear word or 2 :)

Midnight....so sorry to hear about your poor kitty ((( hugs)))

I'm all lunched out I think.....had lunch with my sister on Friday, lunch with hubby on Saturday & lunch with sister, BIL, mum, dad & hubby yesterday! A few days of salads are in order I think!! Oh, & I'm having lunch with a friend on Wednesday.......

I'm having sound therapy on Tuesday....it was a gift to me from a friend who owns a day spa & my eldest daughter is coming with me. I'm rather skeptical but curious at the same time....I really can't see how music i.e. a didgeridoo can be healing!! Anyone here tried it? I'm hoping I get massaged at the same time...lol

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Good afternoon girls.  first of all  Kylie, sorry about yr son and his accident, hope his leg gets better quick. glad the hospital made him feel special and took care of him well.

We supposed to be having somebody come from the council, have  bee nest somewhere, and friday night i got a very itchy foot and sctractched the hell of it and it is very swollen still and has huge rash across the top of it, still itching by my toes, actually flamming irratating. so i may of been stung, tho  I cant remember it,  i stood on something sharp on friday, but did not feel like a sting from a bee,oh well i guess it will clear up.

Chrissy, how are you girl, hows that breathing going, you still getting relief from inhalers.

Trish, how are you now, how is that lump on yr head and yr neck?

Well i am going to have shower and see if it relieves the itching from that dam foot of mine, the rash goes from my toes to the ankle, dark pink and angry. may have to go to doc yet.

    catch u la8er

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. DS is getting the hang of crutches, but I also think he is enjoying no chores.

Karen, the sound therapy sounds interesting, I hope you get a massage also.

Annette sorry to hear about your cat.

I would love some opinions. It is time to get off my butt and return to work. I was a Family Day Care Mum, working huge hours before BC; but know I couldn't cope with this now - not to mention getting every germ imaginable.

How does everyone cope with work? Full time, part-time, casual?  Jenn seems to work and study but I can't see myself managing anything near to that. How do you go into an interview and know you will have to have days off for appointments? I have zoladex monthly as well. Thanks all.

    Hi girls!

Oh Annette I'm so sorry to read about another of your kitties........I just hate it when that happens. Thanks for asking about my breathing, yes I'm getting some relief from the inhaler but its not lasting like it should so I will be discussing it with the doc next time I see him. Have you had any news on your tests yet? That seems to be the problem not just in NZ but here in Aus also, the public system is so overwhelmed that it takes weeks to get appointments and when you do, they are usually very short notice. Here's hoping you get some news soon.

For you foot, and yes it sounds like you stepped on a bee and are allergic to the sting, soak your foot in bicarb, it will help the rash to be not so angry and also help with the itch.

Kylie what a drama! Being in plaster is no fun at all only at the beginning when the kids think its a bit of a hoot. Later as the weeks go by they find out that its very limiting and no fun at all but thank goodness the ER was a good experience for him.

I don't work so can't help on that front but really admire those who do.

Karen I've never heard of sound healing, but I wouldn't discount it even if we don't understand it.........I hope it gives you some relief even if its just a good relax.

I would love to meet up in Sydney but not sure I will have the finances this year as DD2 s wedding is at the end of September so I may be tapped out.........I'll see as the time get closer. If its possible, sharing a unit somewhere sounds like a great idea and if there is enough maybe two close to each other.

I'm so glad the worst of the heat had gone and my body is just beginning to function properly again.......lol......I'm even getting some energy back! The leaves on the grape vine that I can see from my lounge door is starting to yellow so that tells me Autumn is definitely on its way.......yay!!!!!!!!!

Trish, how's the head? Hoping you are feeling just fine but still don't overdo.

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Well the heavens have opened at last, been very heavy rain this arvo and tonight is now piddling down, probably for the grass, it may just bounce off, it would be good if it was lighter and more soaking in stuff.

No my tests are the 23 April, going to have my head examined on the 9th, lol with some Doc at Hospital,  post MRI, that was clear, they still want to see me tho. tried to get to GP Doc today as hubby wants to enquire who is in charge of my care now that i am in the hospital  system, the GP nurse says i am not there concern now once a referal has gone to the Hospital, but my appointment is ages away, so hubby wants to find out why the fobbing off is happening as the hospital told me, if i have concerns go to my GP. but couldn't get in. I feel like i am moaning all the time, don't mean to, i was going to ask about a  qeury that Kylie suggested about colieack disease to do with gluten in foods, i bet i spelt that wrong, but they did not want to know, i think it was the nurse actually, as the doc is  not like that usually. Anyway the bicarb soda sounds a good idea chrisy thanks heaps.

Annette if your system is anything like ours and I think it is, your general care no matter what category it is for, is the resposibility of your GP.  If I have any concerns about anything, my first approach is always to my GP and he deals with it and if he sees fit then passes me onto the other doc, hospital etc.  I have a feeling that his nurse is the one who is doing the fobbing off........shame on her!

Annette, ditto to Chrissy's comments. I know my GP says he gets over 50 phone calls a day from patients. He takes any that are urgent but the secretary deals with the rest. You may get a much better response by personally visiting; asking for a double appointment (costs more) gives you the time with him without rushing. x

Annette, I agree with Chrissy and Kylie and a personal double appointment with your GP would be a great idea. You need someone to listen to your concerns and answer your questions and who better than your GP.

Kylie, I work full time in a fairy demanding job but I don't have any children and hubby does a reasonable amount around the house which helps enormously. I am also lucky that I can take off a few hours in the day for my appointments and then make up the time later. You need to find an understanding employer, and they are out there. So, I'd probably let them know, at an appropriate point in the process, that you will need some time off for treatments. If they are a good fit for you they will be understanding. If they don't understand then they aren't right for you. Many employers are flexible so good luck in finding the right one!

    Hi all

    IM FINALLY HOME

I didn't think that the Doctor would let me home but he did. I'm feeling quite tired at the moment but am going to ask for another 2 weeks off work so I've got the next 3 weeks off. I can't do heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

Everyone seems to have so much going on in their lives at the moment, it's amazing.

I'm at home doing nothing all week so will give more details of hospital stay.
