All OK I suppose. Just saw one of the Registrars who had the personality of a wet fish. And greeted me with 'not sure why you are here??!!! He didn't know anything about me. Then he was much more interested in the fact that my son has Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and so the whole family is being investigated by the Heart Clinic- this was recorded on my record. When I told of some pains he said oh well its probably your RA but we can investigate if it gets worse. GRRRR . Just wish they would try to be like their boss who is an absolute character and I like and trust his opinions.

Must get some things done here.

    Big hugs

So you had the registrar experience too. I kind of  got that greeting the last time i saw one, waste of a visit really. i would of rather of seen my onc too. she is nice, they always palm there off siders on you on these out patient visits. Not all, but most have questionable bed side manners. sorry it was not as enjoyable visit as you would of hoped for. take care Alyson.

Annette, have had the registrars beforeusually every second time but this one was the worst. Must say though have had a couple of lovely caring ones one of whom is now head of oncology. The onc was probably away as I didn't see him there. Anyway I love my surgeon who I really trust and know I can get an appointment any time.

More rain here today and things have greened up but the sun is supposed to be back tomorrow.

Hope you are all having a good day.

    Hi all

I had a great nights sleep last night in my own bed and it was nice and quite too.

When I was admitted for surgery on Thur 7 Feb I had to get there at 9am, went through to pre-surgery ward about 12pm and was ready for surgery. They gave me medication for the nausea and vomiting as I had a rough time last surgery. My poor Dad stayed with me and didn't go and get lunch as we thought I would go through soon. I didn't get into surgery until 4pm !!! They took me right into the theatre , last time I was knocked out before then. The Doctor and Nurses where talking and laughing waiting for me to be knocked out. An ordinary day for them.

I woke up throwing up, the medication didn't work. I was in recovery ward for ages and when I went to the ward I got my own room which was great. This was after 8pm. My Dad and older sister where there waiting for me. I was still being sick but knew that they where their.

And that was just the first day.......

Another Aussie woman diagnosed and being treated :-( Gina Riley (Kath and Kim)... Here's the link to the article.

This is so becoming an epidemic isn't it?

You are right about that!  So many young women I just do not understand it.  So wish they could find the reason for this.

One of the reasons more women are being diagnosed earlier is probably due to the excellent digital mammograms and better scans, possibly years ago a lump needed to be felt before diagnosis was made.

I have a lovely girl at my work, she is Vietnamese and is having a lumpectomy on Thursday, with two fast growing lumps in her breast. I showed her this site today at work and told her it had been my lifesaver (literally, thanks to Trisha) and she thought it was wonderful. I hope if the diagnosis is BC that she comes here. She is only in her early 30's. Of course I hope the dx isn't BC. Will have to wait and see.

    Hugs to all. xxx

Aussie, I'm so glad you are home at last.  I feel for you, I threw up for 30 hours after my mx, it was not nice at all.  When I went in to have my port put in, I told the anaesthetist that if I threw up even once I wasn't going to pay him lol.  I was fine, didn't feel sick at all.  When I went to have the port removed, the (different) anaesthetist looked at all the meds I'd been given and she was amazed/shocked.  She said he'd given me almost all anti nausea meds known to man lol.  She didn't give me quite so many and again I was fine.  I do have a tendancy to throw up after an anaesthetic, so it was nice to have two where I didn't.

Jenn I saw that news bit about Gina Riley yesterday too.  It stands to reason that if 1 in 8 women are dx with bc now there will be more public figures that get it too.  I thought what she said about making sure women get mammograms was pretty good - get it checked and get it early.

Kate - hope your work colleague doesn't have bc, but we will welcome her if she needs us.  Tell us how did your talk with your boss go?  Are you still leaving?

Everything is moving along well with me.  I'm feeling pretty good again now.  It's taken a week, but most of the stiffness and soreness has just about gone.  I still have some pretty impressive bruises, but they are starting to fade.  I got through a whole day yesterday without painkillers, which was a plus.

Now we are just getting all the things done when you sell and buy a house, lots of paperwork lol.  Will have to start getting quotes on removalists soon and start packing.  Once contracts are exchanged it should all start to move quite quickly.

Oh - and Kate, I didn't answer your question - no we don't have views of the Brindys unfortunately, we are on a relatively flat area.  We are only 3 streets or so over from Erindale Drive.

Annette, I was so sorry to hear about your cat.  The same day my BFF rang in tears as she had just run over her cat.  She was a mess, the cat was always hanging around the car and my friend thought she was inside the house and backed out of her driveway - straight over the cat.  Not a nice thing to happen.  They are all at Rainbow Bridge having a great time :-)

I'd better go do some work.

    Have a great day everyone.

Trish, sorry about your friends cat, hubby ran over one of ours at the place we used to be in, he went out in a hurry and ran poor ,Minty, over, he was his cat and white and deaf as a post, he was lovely cat, gorgeous nature, and the thing was that the other cats seem to go into a dismal quiet mood, one that was particualry close to him ran away, came back after 3 weeks. it was like the king of cats had died in our house, he was just lovely to all of them and gentle.  Hubby himself was a mess after that happened, i asked one of the drivers to bury him for us as Ron couldn't. very sad day for cats and us. so know how she feels and hubby certainly would.

Been alot of driveway accidents with Kids, getting run over that way too, you have eyes at the back of yr head. very sad. another toddler in taupo other week.

Looks like Rain has gone for  now, got a good drop tho, enough to save us for now, Palmerston North had only enough to last the month. God knows what would happen if they run out of water.

Which one out of Kath and Kim is not well. I don't watch it much, but have done at times.

    catch you later

Trish, last day is today. My boss barely spoke to me when I saw her on Monday. She was out at meetings most of the day and didn't come back into the office until 2.40pm and I leave at 3.00pm. She was on the phone when I went to leave, so I hovered outside her office for about 10 minutes so I could say goodbye to her but she never got off the phone and as she'd had enough of my time I just waived to her and left. So today I will just get things in order and off I go - onto the next exciting chapter of my life.

Paul had his medical for his job yesterday. It was the full blown kind. Heart rate monitor and having to do push ups, lift hand weights, run on treadmill etc. Who knew office work could be so physical! He passed but he says it nearly killed him, he hasn't done pushups since he was a kid, and he had to do ten of them and keep his chest off the ground. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall as it is something I've never seen beforeLaughing.

It's our 30th wedding anniversary in two weeks time. Paul will be up in the Perth head office, and they are putting him in an apartment next door. I'm going up to spend the night with him and we'll go out for dinner somewhere nice.  Then he will FIFO to Barrow island and work there until the Darwin project is ready for him to commence which should be within the next two months.

Have a great day lovlies. xxx

Oh well Kate, end of another stage, one door shuts and another opens. Cool as. Will you look for another job oe have a break for abit, it ties you down and you want to feel free to be able to visit Paul from time to time. Exciting new future ahead of you, well done and Paul starting a new job.

Oriam, have not seen you for ages on here, u ok, Colin ok? I do hope so.

Karen, how'd you be?  I think you doing lunch today or had somerthing on you were busy with.

Well i better go and do something, clean up my cyclone, you know my hubby is the sweetest you could imagine to have, but boy he is messy, he does not put things away, am trying to train him,  but not working. just easy for me to do it i reckon. He will leave packets with nothing in it in the pantry, my garndma would say, while in the hand, put it away, saves time later. But it is a small price to pay for lovely man.

Hello lovelies - it's been almost an entire month since I last paid you all a visit, terrible how time flies.  I'm sorry I've been so disconnected - been thinking of you all, but I've been supporting a mother-in-law who is in her 80's and in terrible health, ends up in the hospital for one thing or another every 6 months or so and she's there now.  Plus also a friend who's been battling ovarian cancer for about 5 years and it appears she's losing that battle.  I'm so sad about it, she's really fought hard.  Makes me sick to think I'm going to lose her, she's only about 60 and such a lovely warm-hearted friend.

The good news is my DH is on his way home from Perth as we speak.  Four months have flown by that quickly!  He tells me he is full of ideas, no doubt will want to be pulling up stakes in Denver and moving back to Perth!  It's odd to think that he's en route now and I still won't see him until this time tomorrow.  Long way to go.

I noticed some comments about mammograms catching things earlier than they used to - there's quite a bit of controversy about that over here, thought you might like to read an article I wrote last week about that very subject:  http://marnieclark.com/breast-cancer-action-webinar-discusses-screening-mammography-and-breast-cancer-overdiagnosis/  Hope you find it interesting (it's more than a little maddening... 1.3 million women in the US overdiagnosed and overtreated!)

So Kate - I missed the news, are you moving to Perth?  Congrats on hubbie's new job, hope he'll be happy there.  Sounds like interesting new things are afoot for you, I hope you enjoy the change.

Well - drat - the phone's ringing again... must dash off. Sending love and hugs from up here.

    Hi girls....

Kate ....glad today is your last day, I reckon you might feel a sense of relief when you walk out the door :) I remember when I retired from my job (I had been there for 12 years & it was when I was diagnosed with mets) I felt quite sad after such a long time but a huge sense of relief also......I don't miss it all!! Different circumstances of course but good luck with your next adventure & chapter of your life :)

Trish......glad you're starting to feel better & can get back to your busy, busy life!

Annette....it drives me nuts when people put empty containers or packets in the cupboard!! Or when there is 1 or 2 things left in a large pack or container & they don't transfer to something smaller.....well, that's my moan for the day...lol

Marnie.....sorry to hear about you MIL, it's a lovely thing you're doing caring for her :)

Well, I went for my Sound Therapy yesterday......After making a rather grand entrance, i walked up to the door, read the sigh which said 'slide the door & watch your step' & proceeded to trip on the step, stumble in & land on the floor in the reception...lol. they were all concerned that i was ok but it was embarrassing more than anything! So after that rather stressful start to the experience, I don't really think it's for me! It's a form of meditation using different sounds i.e. the didgeridoo & flute to name a couple. From my perspective I would much rather spend the money on a massage....much more therapeutic for me!! Not that I paid for it as it was a gift to me & my daughter who, I must add totally loved it & is talking about going again....we are all so different.

Yes, Annette, I am off to lunch today (again) with some friends, sister & 2 daughters for my eldest daughters birthday......she is 29 today & flies out to work this arvo. So, we are having lunch today & then the family celebration when we are all in Cairns/Port Douglas next weekend. Trouble is the xeloda has given me a rather nasty dose of diarrhea so need to stay close to the loo......TMI - LOL

Anyway, enough babbling, must tidy up & get beautified for lunch :)

    Hi all

Karen I've been a bit like you, last night at 2am woke up with diarrhea and had it until about 10am today. Not sure if it's from all the medications I've had or just some random virus. Not nice though.

Trish I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better, we need to have a contest to see who's got the best bruises, I've got them everywhere from all the needles.

Marnie come to Perth, if you do we'll have to catch up as that's where I am.

Hope everyone has a nice day.

Hi girls, I have had a CT and showed cancer had progressed in my spine, which was disappointing. Onc was concerned it had my thorasic spine was being compromised and ordered an MRI which thankfully showed was ok. The nodes around lungs and heart have decreased which is great, but sorry I didn't get longer out of femara.

I start abraxane chemo on Friday and was supposed to do radiation to spine, but after discussing with specialist decided to hold off till pain gets worse as can only radiate the area once. I hopefully will feel ok as Saturday I am taking all the family out for my sons 21st. Any info on abraxane would be appreciated. Regards Gail

    Hi Gail

I have had weekly Abraxane since November and it shruck my soft tissue tumours to the point of no longer being visible on scans. We did 3 weeks on and 1 off. Scans at 2 and 4 months. We will restart the final 2 month stint soon, but I am having rad to the brain at present. Unfortunately Abraxane couldn't get in there.

It made me tired and muscle pains but I now think the latter was from steroids they had me on for other stuff. My hair came out after 3 weeks, and my nails are getting a little affected (like taxotere) so I keep them covered in dark polish at all times. I was always fine straight after, lost my taste on day 2, had a bit of toilet rushing days 2-4, and start to come good day 6.

On the whole it has been an easy chemo and it has done the job, at least in my body, so far for me.

    Best of luck

    Angela xxx

Hi girls......where is everybody?? Very quiet on here!

Hopefully everyone is just busy enjoying themselves :)

I had a lovely girlie lunch for my eldest daughters 29th birthday.......

But then started to feel a bit 'off' on the way home. Then in the middle of the night I woke with the shivers....was shaking & my teeth were chattering, followed by the sweats.

I clearly had a temp but we couldn't find the thermometer!! So hubby took the day off to 'keep an eye on me' & went & bought one of those you beaut thermometers they use in the hospital....temp was slightly high by this stage - 37.8.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, after contacting my onc it turns out to be a reaction to the flu needle I had on Tuesday! He told me to keep an eye on my temp & take panadol every 4 hours. He said my poor little body was struggling to fight the anti bodies.

Feeling better today, although quite tired & unenergetic......it's my regular lunch/shopping day with my sister, think I'll cope :)

    Hope everyone is fine.

Hey Karen, how are you? yes it is quiet on here, i have had a look in on accasions. but nobody in sight, so thought well i will wait til i see some action and respond. I am sorry you had a bad night. Ma have been a reaction to the flu shot as that can happen. just take it easy dearie and be kind to Karen. you have had alot to deal with. You have a very supportive hubby, you r blessed.

It was commented to me when i had my lumpectomy about the  supportive husband i had and she said, i am so lucky as there are so many women out there who don't have that. I am very blessed. most of us on here are blessed that way.   Our Linda on here, had to go through it more less by herself, tho she has her mum and family, i feel for her esp with that chemo. just having somebody there to help you, when you feel ill. It brought tears to my eyes when i found that out. She is strong and got thru it and  that bussiness of hers has probably helped to focus on something else too.

Hope everybody ok, Chrissy, you ok and trish and everybody. Alyson, you ok?  take care all/ love for now.

Karen, sorry you are under the weather, I didn't think you'd be allowed to have a flu shot!  Take it easy girl, hope you have a lovely lunch with your sister.

Annette, yes some of us are blessed with wonderful DHs, I feel for those who have to go through it all by themselves.

Must run, love to you all

Good to see a bit of action!!

Yes Trish, I am allowed to have the flu shot, in fact it's recommended & free as I have a 'chronic illness'......

I got the flu about 10 years ago (not a cold that a lot of people call the flu but the real deal!!) & I couldn't get out of bed for a week! So, I've had the shot every year since.

I don't think my body would cope with fighting the real flu now.

Annette....you are so right & you know, I think we take for granted having a supportive hubby...

Gotta go, sis is hear to get me for lunch.....take care girls.

Kazzie sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to the flu shot. It sounds like you had a lovely lunch for your daughter's birthday.

Trish - I bet you will be pleased when the move is all over. I hope you have fully recovered from your fall.

Midnight your hubby sounds like a treasure.

Angela, I hope treatment is treating you ok. I had a young 'goth' girl tell me I had cool nails when they were painted black.

Australia, sorry to hear about your progression. Hugs.

I have been busy running around after DS, he has finally got the hang of the crutches.

Hi girls! Yup I'm still here and kicking.......lol. Had hydro on Wednesday followed by my usual weekly shopping......yuk!.......and then getting home and putting it all away.....double yuk! Thursday I had my massage, which was lovely but she really worked on some tight muscles in my shoulders and chest so was rather tired after than and right now I'm sitting in the car, in the city, waiting for my DH to finish his shopping before heading to DD1's house to pickup eldest GS. We are his VIP guests at the opening of the SASE Art Exhibition this evening. It will be open to the public next week for about six weeks. He has his art on display so we are all excited. Once that is done, we will drop him off home again before heading back to the country ourselves .......phew! .........a long day and I'm already ready for a nap.......lol.

Oh Karen do take care and give your body a chance to heal while its fighting those antibodies. Yes it's recommended that I also have a flu shot each year but haven't lined up for mine yet this year.......I must remember to remind my doc it's time.......lol.

It's been trying to rain all day with the odd shower every now and then but it looks like its finally built up enough to really rain! Hooray!!!!!! It's about time!.......lol.

Have a good day for the res of the day!

    Hi all

I went to the hospital today for mammogram on right breast, everything okay so that's good news. I also went to the Plastic Surgery Clinic about my expander and all well there too. I go back in 2 weeks for first fill of expander. I also have to go back on Tuesday for appointment just to discuss mammo and expander surgery I think, it's a surgical appointment at the Breast Centre.

I'm going to go to the shops tomorrow, I went yesterday just to a small centre at went to IGA but this centre is bigger. I haven't been proper shopping for over 2 weeks, I'm getting withdrawal symptons lol. I need to buy some Easter eggs, I haven't really thought about easter yet.

Hope you all have a great weekend
