Trish.....voting done! Beautiful pics, you're very talented....:)

And very exciting re your kitchen.....it'll be here before you know it & you'll be cooking up a storm!!

Chrissy...congrats on 44 years & happy 66th birthday to your DH. And I do wish I was there to share that chocky cake.....yummo, I'm pretty sure you both enjoyed it...:)

Mandy....I do feel for you going through what you are with your mum on top of your own cancer battle.....I hope it all works out sooner rather than later & she is nicely settled in a place that is good for her & you...(((hugs)))

I had my onc appointment on Thursday......a few more issues & he is sending me for more scans! A CT & Bone Scan at the end of this cycle.....sigh!! Always nerve racking but at the same time I like to know what's going on in there. Fingers crossed all is at least stable & I can continue on the very side effect friendly (& convenient) Xeloda! Not to mention progression is VERY scarey.....

    Have a nice weekend girls.

    Thanks Mods for the info.

Yay Trish! I bet the next two weeks won't go fast enough......lol.......don't forget, we want pictures so we can all go green with envy........hahahaha!

Karen keeping everything crossed that your scans show good news so you can continue with the Xeloda.

Thanks girls for your good wishes and yes we really did enjoy the chocolate cake. I must be getting so used to the sugar free diet I've been on as I found that even though I didn't sweeten the cream, mixed with the cake and caramel it was very sweet but very delicious! I may even have another piece later on today........lol.

Cold and wet here......again! We seem to be getting a typical winter that we haven't seen for many years..........oh well, spring and summer will be here soon enough and then I'll be wishing for winter........never happy.......lol.

    Have a great weekend all!

Chrissy, sounds like you had chocolate fever at yr house. lol. you must be very sweet after that lot. lol sounds very yummy, the whole lot. i love corned beef, do you do the mustard sauce with he corned beef. We do corned beef in our slow cooker and  put carrots in it a few hours before,  congrats, on hubby birthday and yr annivesary,, its my hubbys today, he is hoping the new princess or prince will be born today, or the 13th there time. he is 51 years old today at 5pm. i am 11 months older than him.

I went to Dr the other day, well the specalist and my diabetes is abit better, whuch is probably the result of ecersise classes at the gym, my bp not tho. But my normal doctors nurse told me when they did the blood test  for thyroid, that they were elevated and to cut down to one every other day. so i did and repeat the blod test in a month. when i told him, he nearly flipped his lid, he said, it should be an extra one every other day, not cutting back, when its eleveted, it means the body needs more, the nurse had told me the wrong thing, mum even questioned at the time, . he said, this is extremley vital, very dangerous if  not handled right, tested my reflexes, he said that they are too relaxed, there is no kick in me. we had an on looker nurse learning the thyroid side of things and  he was trying not to express annoyance, holding back. so he said, to go back to what i was taking, two every day, and do his blood test in a month and to follow his instruction till it comes back to normal. then he held his head in his hands, for a few secs, trying to compose him self. just as well i have him to get me right again, we measure the amount t with how much the brain gets and  its right complicated, he said, these pills, control the metobolic rate.  i said, i could of misunderstood her, he said, it is there job to make sure you don't. i did want anybody getting into trouble. i felt abit awful after that. so hope fully i will come back to normal.  it feel like my brain has not been egaged. like the elevator does not go to the top floor of late and putting it down to stress. he said, if i feel i have not underestood, to ask again til i do.

    Happy Birthday Chrissie!

I got my uni result yesterday - passed my subject with a Credit. Now I just have 5 subjects left to get my degree. 2 this coming semester, then 3 next year. Then, 30 years after I first started university in Auckland I will finally have a Bachelors Degree from a university in Australia.

I am off to a work conference on the Gold Coast tomorrow. Coming back on Tuesday night then leave next Sunday for 5 days in Auckland to check on my Mum.

Work has been really challenging. I missed out on a promotion during a restructure. Wasnt even offered a chance at the promotion. Now I have a new line manager and there's change happening and it's just horrible. I'm trying to ride the wave of change... There is a chance of a job ina different location with an old boss in the next couple of months though. It would be closer to home! I'm just waiting for my old boss to let me know when the ad goes up.

I have a follow-up visit with my new onc next Thursday (after being at the same conference with him on Mon/Tues). I need to tell him about the increasing pain I have in my spine. I hope it's just the Tamoxifen...

Dear ladies, I am reading this forum every day and thinking of you all in your highs and lows.

Jenn, hoping your job issue and pain are resolved soon and in a good way. Congrats on your credit mark and only a few more subjects to get your degree. It will be worth it!

Chrissy, congrats on your anniversary and am excited about your upcoming trip.  Too bad about the colonoscopy; I will have to schedule one too as it is three years since my last :(

Kylie, congrats on getting back to work!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in Sydney!

    Love to all, Racy.

Ladies, I just want to put something out there. I think about cancer every day. Does anyone here not?

Anyway, I had a couple of random thoughts recently.  I am not one for regrets, but learnings.  So if I had to go through this again:

    1. I would get the Oncotype test. It costs $4000 but this cancer experience has cost me way more with being off work as a result of chemo.

    2. I would use cold caps.  Hair loss was the worst part of this experience for me.

    Any thoughts?

Chrissie, Congratulations on your 44th wedding anniversary and also DH birthday. xxx

Racy, nice to hear from you and yes I am also looking forward to seeing everyone in Sydney as well. Cool With thinking about cancer every day....I have periods where I dont think about it, especially now that I am stage 4.... I used to think about cancer every day before that. However, I also have periods where I do think about it, but like I said, I try to focus on other things instead. As for Oncotype test and cold caps - I must admit that I was very naive as was probably everyone else as well and I agree that I would have liked to have been more informed before. However, I never bothered about my appearance and only focused on my health instead.

Jennt, good to hear that you did well with your uni results. I was just wondering what you are studying?

Karen, good luck with your tests. Keeping my fingers crossed everything is OK.

Trish, I am so excited about your kitchen. It sounds very nice.

We celebrated mum's birthday today and had a great time with the family. They did comment on mum and how much she has declined, commenting that it looks like she is suffering from Parkinson's disease. However Cortical Basal Syndrome looks a lot like Parkinson's. Mum said that she had a great time and I have decided not to worry or fuss anymore about Mum's decline. She does not want to discuss Nursing homes let alone look through them etc, etc. Her doctor did give me her mobile phone number if I needed any advise or assistance when the time comes. She said phone night or day, so that is peace of mind. So, I guess mum and I are similar in that we both dont want to think about our illnesses and just continue day by day. lol. So I promise not to crowd Mum and leave her in peace from now on.

    Cheers for now

Hi Girls, just went over to hormone therapy, Tamoxifen causes diabetes, that story mimics mine. i was also told by my  sister and she looks after a lady with BC  and she went to onc, actually a new one, she had not seen before and he took her Sugar levels and told her that some Al's and tamoxifen can cause diabetes. when there is no  estrogen, insulin  can take over, you would have to read it. i have heard that BC ans diabetes is linked. terrible aye, they designed to keep one thing at bay and cause another. so anybody taking tams, you may want to check it out on hormonal therapy board. apparently estrogen controls your insulin levels and if you have not got any, you can get diabetes. and other Al's can do it and chemo. but i suppose it is the better one than cancer.

Midnight, my Mother was Dx with diabetes after her Mx and was taking Tamox. I wondered at the time why everything started to go wrong at that time. That was likely the reason.

I am so sorry to hear of your health issues, you've had a rough time.

I hate taking any meds. I have had so many bad reactions, ulcers from anti infammatories, osteoporosis from steroids, and awful se's for years on Methotrexate, all for Rheumatiod Arthritis. I found that having surgery was actually a better option for me. I still take steroids every day, but thankfully a small dose keeps it under control.

I was glad to not have to take Tamox after my Mx, but I wonder if it will be raised again at my follow up appointment which is coming up soon.

    Hello all

Very rainy and cold and miserable here in Canberra this morning. Good day to snuggle up with a good book :-)

Ariom, I can understand how you didn't want the renos going on after surgery, I would have been the same lol. I'll post a pic of the finished product in a couple of weeks.

Chrissy, congratulations on the celebrations, I would never have guessed you like chocolate!! We are having corned beef for dinner tonight!

Midnight, when that page opens, there's a pink square button with Vote" on it next to the heading that starts with "Yay we've been nominated for wedding of the year ..." Just click on that button and you'll have voted :-)

Thanks for letting us know Mods, we all would have been wondering what was happening. Yes the time difference means we are on here when most of you are asleep lol

And after I posted I realised there was another page doh!

Jenn congrats on your results, you're one step closer to your degree yay! I hope your work situation gets sorted out, it's horrible working in a situation where you don't like going to work xox

Racy, I now have days and days go by when I don't think about cancer. I mainly worry about it when I'm not feeling well. I didn't have a choice with chemo, being HER2+ meant I had to have it. So no regrets over not having had the oncotype test. Losing my hair wasn't a biggie for me either. I didn't like it, but knew it would grow back, and I must admit, looking back and seeing how I didn't need to worry about how my hair looked after being in bed and sleeping so much was actually a bonus.

Mandy ((((hugs)))) you do have a lot to cope with, but it sounds like you have reached a peaceful acceptance of your mum's situation.

Midnight, I hope all your health issues get sorted out, sounds like you have a good doc now.

Karen, keeping you in my thoughts, and keeping everything crossed for you ((((hugs)))

I have voted Trish, one for me and one for  hubby. so hope to hear you won with every one on here as well voting.

Oriam, it was  probably the cause of the diabetes in yer mum. Damed if you do and damed if you don't, tho you can cure diabtes 2, cancer is harder and if you have to have one, diabetes is better.

well Kazzie, hope you will be ok. geez you poor lady. thinking of you lots. hugs to every one

Just sitting here on the iPad waiting for the rest of the family to arrive before heading over to the Italian Restaurant for another celebratory lunch.........lol.....that will make number three. We went out last night for dinner with a couple of friends and DGS talked my friends ear off.......lol.......he is such a sociable kid.......anyway, my friend and he got on so well that she is going to add him to her friends list on FB so they can stay in touch.

Jenn, congrats for such a good pass.......you deserve it after all the hard slog you put into it. Your degree is getting ever closer.

Annette, I am amazed that you can still make us laugh even when you have so much going on both with the business and your health. I'm really happy that you seem to have a doc who is finally on your side and is pushing for answers for you. Yes I know diabetes sucks but you are right, it's far easier to control or even cure than cancer is. Hang in there, I sure hope you start to feel better soon.

Trish, can't wait to see you kitchen.........you have inspired me to sort of do something with mine........lol........I've started with the taps. Not quite sure what else will be done but just replacing the old cruddy taps has made a difference to the look. Mmmmm, I wonder if that's just my imagination or what.......hahahaha!

Mandy happy to hear that you are no longer going to let your mum stress you out and you are going with the flow..........so much easier than fighting the current.......sure hope it works for you all. We tend to forget or choose to ignore the fact that our parents are ageing and there is not all that much time left to spend with them........so much better for all if you can put differences aside and just enjoy your times together.

Karen, as always good thoughts coming your way.

Well just got a text from DD, they are about five minutes away so I'd best go get organised. Have a great day all!

    Love n hugs. Chrissy

Hiya everyone. Firstly Trisha, amazing wedding pics. Well done. You are so talented. Actually there are a lot of talented people here, Karen with her booties and Chrissy with her quilt. Oh my.

Well, not much to post from me really. I have been creative in my own way. When I left Canberra to move here I left a beautiful water feature large jar pot. It broke my heart to leave it. Hubby promised I could buy another one. Well I couldn't find one. Well I found one a month ago at my local hardware store. I was so happy. I put a deposit on it and was so happy. Well imagine my horror, to get a call less than two weeks later to say it had been sold!!! I coul'dn't believe it. I stewed and stewed for three days over it and then rang the manager, who is a lovely man and had been away. He was so embarrased and felt so badly for me. He actually said I could buy the next size up for the same price if I wanted, but it was just too big and would have looked rediculous in my garden (proportion is everything). But.... I saw this other pot, which isn't a jar pot but very modern, and I bought it instead. I am now painting it with rust paint and have been very creative with it. I will post pics when it is finished. I am so happy with it.

Apart from that, I am very well. Heck I've even dodged the cold/flu bullet so far (touch wood). No complaints from me.

Hope everyone else is travelling along OK.

    Love Kate xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yay  Kate!  good for you........I'm so glad that your water feature has worked out after all.  I can't wait to see the pic.  I'm so looking forward to catching up in Sydney at the end of November.

Lunch yesterday was fabulous and it was so nice to have the girls and all the grands in one place to celebrate with us.  I dropped of DGS who had been staying with me for a week this morning before heading to see my GP for my regular visit.......got all my scripts renewed and then he took my BP.....a little up but I must admit I was a little rushed this morning so that is probably why.  Im finally at DDs for the rest of the week as the Gastro gut does his thing on Thursday and Wednesday sees the prep begin.......Ugh!!

    Have a great day all!

On the Gold Coast at this work conference. Looking more and more like breast cancer will end up taking my job. It's just so hard sitting there all day listening to all the stats about depression, anxiety, sexual disfunction after cancer diagnosis and treatment. Even though my work is all about urogenital cancers it is just sooo relateable to my own diagnosis...

I need to find a job away from oncology :-/
