Hi Jenn
I am newly diagnosed and new to this board. I am American expat living in Sydney . When I was diagnosed I went back to the U.S. and had surgery last week and plan to start making arrangements to get chemo at st Vincent's ( near my house) . This is a leap of faith for me to get treatment in Australia, I don't know the medical community there. How has your experience been?
Thanks and cheers!
Jeanette

Jeanette, sorry to read that you have joined this group. I have worked in healthcare for many years and I have some knowledge of global healthcare. I believe that, in general, healthcare in Australia is world class and I trust that you will receive good care. For moral support, this board is first class so please keep posting. Take care!

Jeanette,
St Vincent's is highly regarded. I'm sure you will be well looked after there :-) Sorry you had to join us though...
wahine - it really is a small world isn't it? The Mokoluas are pretty special although I have never been out there. Used to take a boogie board out to Flat Island off Kailua Beach though, and ride the waves to the right of the island.

Hi girls, i have enjoyed all your stories very much and wish you a belated Merry Christmas and. Happy new year from the new Goldcoast hospital, yet again! I. Had a great couple of days after my horrid procedure, shopping for Christmas, and a wonderful time with family and celebrations. But then i found myself becoming increasingly breathless and could not walk to the toilet without having to lay down. I got a bit frightened over the weekend, but was relieved when the hospital rang to say i had an appt to see the lung specialist Monday morning. Anyhow, my lungs had made no improvement on the steroids at all,so admitted me to hospital. I had a CT scan of my lungs only and i have lots of bloodclots throughout ( could be cancerous, they don't know) i am having my heart looked at today as they think blood could be blocked and putting a strain on it, heres hoping ok. Am on blood thinning injections to disolve the clots which i will have to do the rest of my days. Oh Joy! Just hope this all does not speed up my decline
, that's the million dollar question isn't it? Love the photos of you and your, lovely girls Karen, and the tales of farm life in NZ kept me from getting teary in the middle.of the night. What beautiful women you all are. Hugs, Gail

Gail, nice to hear from you and sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble. I have to take Clexane injections forever as well, and have been doing it for almost a year now, so it is do-able and hopefully does the trick.
Jeanette, welcome to our group, and I know that you will get the moral support that is so desperately needed at this awful time.
To everyone else, wishing you a Happy New Year. I have my 3 year old grand daughter standing next to me at the moment trying to help me type. We will be going to the fireworks tonight to see in the New Year and then my daughter and grand daughter will be going home tomorrow. We will visit my mum soon and take her shopping, so, I am still running around like a headless chook and loving every minute of it. xx
Hugs
Mandy xx

I went into a shop yesterday, one of those asian coin savers and i was looking for dishes for cats and the worker was following me around and spying on me as if i was going to flog something, i felt very uncomfortable, so i went up to the counter with the plates i found, and said, i am not coming here again, i came here to have a look for pet dishes, but your worker is following me around like i am ready to steal something, i am not a thief and a person is entitled to look around and no wonder your shop is empty of people, i understand you may get people who do steal, but i am not one of them and there are plenty of your kind of shops to go to, made me feel very uncomfortble, everytime i went into a different isle, he would be standing there watching to see what i was looking at, he said sorry sorry, i will talk to him, i said, yea well its enough to put people off, get some mirrors and you can see what people are doing. I came toyour one as it was where i ws at,I only broght two dishes, was going to buy more, but had enough of the peeping tom. p/s, i had no bag, so where would i stick it if i had nicked anything. in my nickers or something, lol

Hi Jeanette and welcome both to BCO and this thread.......so sorry you need to join us. Healthcare in Australia is as good as anywhere in the world and I'm sure you will find no problems at all. Goodluck with the rest of your treatment!
Oh dang Gail! That is just so scary! I do know that having to take blood thinners every day is more a pain than anything else........my DD (eldest) was on Clexane for about ten years (her childbearing years) on a daily basis and still needs to take it when she flys......not personally but in a plane.....yeah, yeah, I got the giggle.......lol......Anyway, I do hope you are feeling way better soon.
Annette how horrible! They really do deserve no customers at all!........I know there are thieves around but to treat someone like that when you are a new customer......well that is just plain ridiculous! Glad you got at least a couple of the cat dishes you wanted.
Finally it's just DH and I......phew!!!!!!! now for some quiet relax time......lol.....actually, I think it's time for a good clean up lol and then a bit of relax time........until Monday when I head to the city again for my doc appointments and annual mammo on one hung low......gosh I hate the big squeeze! At this point in time what ever happens in that is really not a problem as a recurrence there doesn't phase me at all.......lol.......it just makes my doc more comfortable......hahahahaha!
Happy New Year all!!! Here's hoping 2014 is a far better year for ll of us!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Yea, chrissy, i usually have fav store in our big plaza i buy from, but i was a ,long way from there and could not be bothered walking it and was waiting for hubby to get me and darted in there, but never again, once i am put off something, that is it for them, either for ever or a long time, we had an issue with a vet once, we found a dumped cat, who had a bad eye and we tried to treat as we did not have the funds to fix it as one of our cats had surgery for a broken leg and then amputated, well this bitch, went on abusing us about this animal, who we took after about two weeks, it was really runty, but we rescued and tried our best and she was going to get animal welfare on us, Ron gave her a good bollocking for upsetting me as i could not stop crying and we went to the top and complained and they rang us and apologised and they put it down and found there to be natural causes and the kitten was just lucky she had at least two weeks of somebody looking after him, we called him scruffy as he was, hubby picked up him off the side of the road in long grass., it was white and he just saw it and then stopped and got him, that vet went on and on, til hubby did his balls at her. she left not long after that. but i have never been back. to that vet practice. it was not the vet that attended to our other cat, it was another we went to when that one was not avaiable, on call one.
Happy new Year all you lovely ladies.

J, re rads, my advice would be good skin care, some gentle exercise and lots of rest. I walked every day for at least 30 minutes and moisturised well. I would start the skin care ASAP to get the skin in good condition. I was tired towards the end, as I think most people are, so make sure there is time for rest. It will probably be more stressful being away from home but at least the family will be together :-)
Gail, sorry to read about your troubles, I hope things turn around for you soon.

Hello girls and J!
Sorry - I haven't been on for a little while - have been busy with family and friends visiting, it's been lovely.
Happy New Year everyone - I too hope that this year is kind to all of us
Jeanette - so glad you found us - you will be fine with your treatment here in Australia, we have a world class health system here. Make sure you come on here to rant, rave, cry and laugh with us, this is a great bunch of women.
J - will be thinking of you and your wife when you go for rads xoxo
Karen - what gorgeous photos of you and your family - it looks like it was a Christmas to be remembered (((hugs)))
Gail - I was so sad for you reading your post - ((((hugs)))) to you too
Chrissy - haven't done anything yet - it's holiday time remember lol. Will start the ball rolling soon when everyone goes back. I haven't been too bad, lot of diarrhea still, but the heartburn seems to have settled down a lot which is nice. The pain is still coming and going - but over the past week it has been pretty good.
Annettte - sorry I worried you lol - just busy with life at the moment, which is a good way to be.

Happy New Year lovelies......I hope everyone has had a lovely holiday season & that 2014 brings love, happiness & most importantly good health
Gail, as you know I'm thinking of you from our previous correspondence.
I won't reply to everyone, I have been reading but since Xmas things haven't been too good. In a lot of pain in my legs. Apparently the cancer on my spine is damaging some nerves.......I saw the doc yesterday who liaised with my onc & they gave me a couple of different morphine drugs which have helped but not given total relief. Anyway, see the onc tomorrow & having an MRI as well as chemo......what a fun day ahead....
Take care lovely ladies & enjoy the rest of the holidays.
(((Hugs)))

Hi all
Well not a good start to the new year for me as Mum is in Hospital. Dad was worried as she hasn't been eating and the last few months she has lost a lot of weight, she's also been losing her memory. They did some tests and may have liver and thyroid problems, she's having more tests tomorrow.
Hopefully we can sort her problems out as she hasn't been herself for quite awhile now.
Carol
