Hi Everyone, My left cataract is over and done with and I had a nurse who not only had a really cute short spiked haircut and the prettiest silver gray hair, she found a vein on the very first time!! It is a strange procedure...they tape your eye open so you can help by looking up and down and straight ahead when they tell you to and the images you see are really weird....he said look at the lights and I asked what they looked like and he said they look like 3 marshmallows. At first I said I only see two and then I said oh Ok, now I see them...two are on the left and one on the right....but to me they did not look like marshmallows at all as they were not round, they looked like those little Styrofoam carry out boxes they put a piece of pie in and I told him that and I think he liked my description. Sometimes these little boxes looked like they were filled with 2/2 guaze and you could see how the stack was layered and there were all sorts of nice lights and colors and one time I saw this pretty lace pattern. I am thinking maybe the numbing drops they use are laced with LSD since it was downright psychedelic. They use an instrument that is like the ultrasonic scaler we use in the dental office to remove heavy tartar....I found that interesting. My eye feels a little bit scratchy and the drops I have to put in burn, but really it was not a bad surgery at all....it's a little blurry, but they said this will get better and it already is. I go back tomorrow. At night I have to sleep with one of those tin patches. Next week, I go have the right eye done and I will at least have young eyes....yeh, right. He commented on my eyeliner.....thought I had it all off, but guess not. He requested that next time I not put on that one with the glimmer as it was very difficult to get off. They made me wash my face with some dial stuff there so that got rid of my moisturizer and boy, you talk about an old dry looking face. They really want you Eu natur when you are there for surgery.
Re sheer lipstick or gloss.....it's not cheap, but Channel makes some beautiful ones called Rouge Coco shine and I got one last week that is almost no color and I really like it...the shade is Canoter, but remember I am one who does not go for much color. I got sucked into this by going in for my free samples...four Channel shades of this coco shine....they showed four little tubes in the add. In reality you get a little cardboard folder that has four tiny little elevated squares with a hard plastic covering them and there is a little brush to apply them with....none of them colors I Iike at all and there might be enough for three, four applications at the most of each color. When the girl brought it out, I said wow, that certainly is false advertising if you ask me, I was expecting a nice gift. I am a sucker for these free samples and most of the time you end up spending a lot of money to get them. Clinique seems to always have the best free gifts with purchase. I love the tinted clinique moisturizer I bought a few weeks ago....it is very sheer, doesn't feel at all heavy and covers the age spot I have on my cheek.
I have decided I am going with the new chemo my onco has recommended which as I have already told you means I am going to lose my hair again, and that means my eyebrows and lashes again most likely also so I think I am going to finally go to one of those Look Good, Feel Good clinics they offer and I am going to get all the freebies I can and am going to concentrate on making myself a beautiful bald being. My father told me last time I have a beautifully shaped head, can"t even see the suture line on the skull (which did I mention they found mets in? Groan) ...but that's a father talking for you.(one who remembers his head and neck anatomy class). He arrived today and will be here for Easter.
I would not call what has been going on here bickering exactly....this is still a nice thread in my opinion and face it we are aging and sometimes we get a little testy....it goes with the territory. Glad you like that shampoo, Barbe. I am hanging onto my silver mane for as long as I can....on this particular chemo one woman lost hers in 8 days, but a few others said they actually did not go all the way bald. I guess I will just have to wait and see how it goes....am not starting til the 4th of May so am going for a haircut next week and have already told the girl she better make this a really good one cuz I am getting a pic made for a new passport.
I hope that all of you have a nice Easter weekend. Rain is predicted here, but I was not going on an egg hunt so it isn't bothering me.....the flowers and lawns love it.

Tougher, I like sheer, shimmery lips, too - what lipstick do you recommend? Never tried mineral makeup - sounds like a good idea...especially in the humid, tropical climate that I live in...

I agree. Besides, I think some of those older celebrities just look unnatural. I just want to shave a few years off, not look like Dorian Gray.

Luan... Lol! I live in a very affluent community and let me tell you... Some gals have gazzlions to spend on themselves and in my humble opinion, some of them STILL look awful! It's amazing! I'm sill entranced by how Jennie from the Bronx looks.... Inside and out!

Dorian Gray just kept on looking as he did when he was young, didn't he?,,,,still looked like himself, but look at these women like Joan Rivers who just don't even resemble what they used to look like. If I had the money, my chin and neck area is what I would have done. However my mother always said, You can tell a woman's age by her hands....so what are we going to do about that?, wear gloves? What is different about Christy Brinkley....I used to think she was so pretty, but she's changed something and I don't think natural aging did it. I wonder what Joan Collins looks like these days....haven' t seen her for awhile. I saw a pic of Bo Derrick just the other day in a People I think and I said Wow, that's Bo Derrick?...didn't even look like her, but I think she's 60 now or maybe she was in the 50 group. She goes with one of my favorite guys so far as looks go....John Corbett....at least I think that's his name, Adain from Sex in the CIty, Chris in the Morning on Northern Exposure and the guy she married in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
It is storming here and I have pets hiding all over the place.

Fearless, I like Bobbi Brown Lip Palletes. They have several hues in one case with a lip brush. Sephora carries Bobbi Brown, as well as Bare Minerals.
I agree, that there are many celebrities that look a bit "off" and a little different from their former selves, Nicole Kidman being one of them. I do think Susan Lucci looks outstanding for her age, and Cindy Crawford has held up well (even though she is only in her 40s)
And Jennifer Lopez is one of those people I have a girl crush on, and can't take my eyes off of...she's just stunning.

I don't believe money can buy beauty (like Voracious Reader points out), but it really can help. I know I would look better if I did not have to work full-time, got all the rest I needed and had money to buy all the healthy food I wanted wherever I wanted to buy it. Weekly facials never hurt, either...
I try to do spa stuff at home, but it's not as relaxing as having someone do it, of course....

So true, Voracious. My husband is in the photo business. The thing that really isn't fair to us normal ladies is the straight fact: if you are in Hollywood, you've had work done. Sorry, Ms. Mirren, but the before and afters are pretty clear, despite the lame protestations! And you should see the airbrushing before and afters.
None of these women hold up well, not Crawford, or Lucci. They just have good surgeons (the really good ones start women really young and make it look as natural as possible).
My point is just really that being imperfect is normal. Maybe we all wouldn't feel so lousy if these women weren't held up as "normal aging". I know from a source that Demi Moore, for instance, has had about $400,000 worth of work.

Speaking of Cindy Crawford I want to mention Richard Gere. Could someone explain to me His allure? Gray hair and myopic and STILL makes my mother, sister, daughter and my heart all flutter? Guys have it soooo much easier.

LtotheK, it's true, isn't it? I always say they look rested, too. But money definitely cannot buy beauty. I work at an exclusive resort and let me tell you.......some of those women could haunt houses.
I know it sounds cliche, but I do believe plenty of rest, a healthy diet and general happiness makes a woman beautiful....

I think the short hair (prep for chemo) is fun with ultra feminine clothes or tops. I like lots of mascara -but not like twin spiders - and lipstick with a touch of glitter. MAC has0 -
Shiny lipsticks by MAC. Love Bobbi Brown make up. Love Dior mascara. Love shimmer bricks by Bobbi Brown--- bit I don't go wild with them.
Recently highlighted my hair with red. It's gonna be gone anyway,so I took a lot of risks with it. Love this thread.0 -
I am also a big Richard Gere fan.I think he actually looks better with age.
I also like the bare minerals powder instead of foundation.I use the Mac Slim lipsticks that have a bit of a gloss within the colour.Too much lipgloss on an older woman looks bad.Still haven't figured out my eyebrow problem.Always look like a clown whenever I try to draw them or fill them in.Hair came back everywhere else just no brows.

No, no....don't tattoo on brows....my neighbor did that and they just look really harsh plus they don't move and she's always got this sort of startled look because of the way they arched them. She does not have BC, but she was having a MRI for her rheumatiod arthritis or something and they has to stop because her eyebrows (her tattoos) were feeling like they were burning off.

Exactly what I worry about. Thin eyebrows run in my family and my cousin who did it has that 'suprised' look too.

Thanks Mary I was seriously considering having that done.But now I think I will suffer instead.For my daughters wedding I will have them drawn in by a makeup artist.Just hope they stay on all day.

Draw them on and them scruff the lines up a little with a stiff toothbrush...that sort of gives the impression of individual hairs.

Mum, if nothing else, just accent the first part of the eyebrow right at your nose. I use eyeshadow! It stays on better than eyeshadow on my lids, because I don't have wrinkles in my eyebrow area (yet!). I don't do a solid line, I just do a sort of "checkmark" with the emphasis on the start of the check. Try it. (I've even used mascara lightly and it works too!)
I like Photo Ready make-up by Maybeline (?) in a compact of "liquid to powder" or another one that has a foam applicator as well, in a ball tip. I find a foam applicator gives me the most natural look. I don't use a separate concealer as I did for the last 38 years...it began to accent the wrinkles. Instead I just use the same foundation that I use for the rest of my face and then press powder into the under eye area to "set" it. I got that tip from "What Not to Wear" Carmindy!!
ALWAYS use a lighter eyeshadow at your inner eye area by your nose and even stroke it down to cover the lower inner eye area - gently. It really brightens your eyes! Thanks Carmindy for that one.
I actually look good in a glimmer/gloss. I find a flat colour looks just that - flat! The glimmer brightens up my lip area nicely. I am trying Lip Venon right now to pump up my lips and it kind of works. After a blusher, I swipe face powder over everything to blend it all.
