I find her S&P hair kind of flat. Wish it had more shine. Also, isn't her lipstick that bright red we were nay-saying a couple of pages ago....? Hmmmm? I bet she was "done" for the shot and doesn't like it. I bet she looks more natural when she does herself. Hey, I'm just saying. Now I'm going to Google her and see.

One of the reasons so many women get compliments on their wigs is that the strands have the shine of a 17 yr old.  Dull hair is one of the hallmarks of age, unfortunately.

Another one:  teeth whitening.  Takes decades off.  Notice her teeth.

She is powerful, smart, and so totally lovely.  On a more philosophical note, I sure would like to see the human race evolve to embrace beauty as something other than a signifier of fertility (long hair, smooth skin, etc.)

I even like those crow feet around her eyes that I'm sure she could have had airbrushed but didn't!

Question... Is anyone else dealing with what seems like excessive hair loss?  I swear, each time I wash my hair, I end up with a little clump of hair strands that have let loose.  I've been attributing it to a lack of estrogen, but thought I'd see if anyone else has noticed the same thing.  I've been thinking of trying Biotin, which worked great at helping my hair grow back after chemo.  But I'm curious if anyone else is having this problem.    Deanna

dlb823, if you're on Tamox, that could be the culprit...

I also love Allure by Chanel and use the cream, Allure sensuelle contains patchouli Barb  Wink, expansive though, cannot re-supply for the moment....Frown

Summer's coming... what are you gals doing for anti-perspirants.  Swore I would never use the stuff again, have been able to get away with it through winter.  Short of using mouthwash and cornstarch, have tried the natural stuff, but nothing seems to work, help.....

    Luan... Try more perfume!! Lol

Thanks for the suggestions, but it's not bad enough to need a chemical shampoo or see a doctor.  It's just something I've never had before -- like several loose strands at a time -- enough to roll up into a little ball -- and every time I wash my hair.  I thought it was low estrogen, but maybe one of my hair products or the new (hotter) hair dryer I recently got is causing it.

Luan, have you tried Trader Joe's deoderant?  It's both paraben and aluminum free.  The one I like is unscented, but I they may also have a scented one.    Deanna

Yes I have had extreme hair loss in the past. Went though my meds and one by one changed them---

For me it was zoloft and it really became noticeable after2 months on zoloft. So when I stopped it it really slowed down. I also found that taking zinc was helpful too.

Luan and voracious.  I have been using my "scent" as deodorant since I went through menopause and realized that B.O wasn't an issue any longer.  Yes, it's more expensive than deodorant, but it's one of my few indulgences. Since I pretty much only use it under my arms, it lasts for a long time.  I am going to check out the new Clinique scent, the one that has patchouli in it.  I always loved the smell of that.

Wenweb.... You know how pathetic I am right now? Tomorrow I am having shoulder surgery on my now "bad" shoulder. And my formerly "bad" shoulder that was fixed several years ago, also hurts. Don't ask when it was the last time I put anything on my pits!!! I am lucky after a few minutes under the shower that I can get some soap under my arms!

I wouldn't be having the damn surgery if I could spritz! Trust me!!!

Petjunkie----------hope you didn't use that haircoloring, I'm only seeing it today--------mine grew back in all these wonderful shades of white, steel gray, and black-----------a colorist would have charged allot for the job. I used what you are talking about----------I became all one hair color which was basically ashade of blue---------took at least 6 weeks to fully wear off. Was not ready to be a BLUE hair -------saw that with my mom----------NOT going there.   With the right hair cut ------------all I get are compliments  Combo pixie/french--------ask for a point cut vs the thing that guts mutli levels. It will not be so flyaway then. I'll never color again. Older than you , but ain't telling. Take 4 grams of fish oil or flaxseed oil a day. Hair and skin love it.  It's also makes alot of other body parts happy-----------Omega 3.......This is page 28 and ya'll are up to page34

Hi SAS-- I don't plan on using any hair coloring. I'm just using a shampoo that is for silver hair and so far I like it. I'm not sure it's making my hair any shinier, but it smells good!

I'm vegetarian and don't do fish oil, and I've been told to avoid flax oil since my cancer is ER+. You can get really good omega supplements through algae (which is how the fish get it in the first place) but it's really expensive and doesn't fit my budget. Has anyone tried anything else to get their omega 3? I have soymilk fortified with it, but won't eat eggs. Those seem to be the only foods I see fortified with omega 3 or omega 6.

I was trying to eat lots of good fats for my skin (like avocado). But I'm on Xeloda right now and it seems like all I can eat are saltines and applesauce. Yuck.

I wrote to the mods and made several suggestions-----I watch far too many Forencics programs. Don't delete and don't respond. The mods are evaluating situation with the Tech/Geeks. If we delete the letters until they are ready to do something with them . We may be deleting EVIDENCE. So, just let them hang there until we hear from mods. This could be VERY INTERESTING. Hope we catch these really bad buggers.

I am confused on the whole flax/soy thing.  The reason I thought ER+ women were not supposed to take flaxseed oil was because it had soy in it (same as some fish oils).  Does that mean it's okay to eat and drink soy products?  The only thing my onc said to stay away from were foods that had soy added (as in protein), but not actual soy products themselves.  I guess that I don't know how or why there is soy in some omega-3 products.  Help anyone?

Wenweb, I'm ER+, I just don't ADD anything soy. If it's already in there, fine. I don't eat tofu as I never ate it before, so that would be added soy. We can't sweat (pun intended!) everything!! Kiss

    Wenweb,

There is so much confusion about the soy issue. My oncologist and nutritionist both told me that eating whole soy products was fine (tofu, soymilk, edamame). They both agree that I should avoid soy protein isolates that are added to foods or soy supplements.

I realize that others have been told different by their providers. Personally, I am comfortable following the advice of my doc and in my opinion, whole soy foods are better for me than the animal fats found in meat products.

But this is just my opinion and the choice that I've made. There is no conclusive evidence either way on the soy debate, but some people feel very strongly about it. I think there are a few threads about it on this site.

Ladies- it's exactly what you have both said that confuses me.  barbe you say you don't add anything soy.  Does that mean you don't add any whole soy food to your diet that you haven't already been eating, or that you don't eat anything that has soy added to it?  What I hear is that you will eat whole soy products that you enjoy, but won't add anything soy that you don't like.

petjunkie What you are saying is what I have also been told (you worded it more eloquently than I), but then my question is: is the soy that is in flax and fish oil supplements soy protein isolates or perhaps soy oil, which in my opinion would not be a soy that we shouldn't eat.

Sorry to belabor this.  Even the docs have differing opinions...Thanks

I didn't eat whole soy before bc, so I don't add it now. I know it's in most of our foods and I can't get away from it, so I just don't add more.

flax and soy produce a pseudo-estrogen effect. They don't know for sure if that is dangerous or not, but if you are estrogen positive, it seems wise to me to err on the side of caution. It is fine, for instance, to eat Chinese food with soy sauce on it. Just don't be adding extra soy, more than you'd usually get in your normal diet, especially in the form of suppliments, to your diet.

Wenweb:  I relate to how confusing this whole issue is.  Because of my ER + cancer, I stay away from both soy and flax seeds.  I'll be posting soon on the hormonal girls thread excerpts from a book I have re soy .  Stay tuned  Wink
