Hi-  I have been lurking for awhile and wonder if you all can answer some questions for me.  What is the purpose of bronzer ?  Do you use it instead of blush or with blush and what parts of your face to you apply it on ?

Barbe, another hot cancer survivor!  Lago said only hot gals apparently get cancer.  I concur.  I've seen more nice looking ladies on these boards than I do in my daily routine!

JFV, I think you just tap it where the sun would hit - cheekbones, forehead, bridge of nose....make sure you don't get too dark a shade.

Two friends tattooed their eyebrows a couple of years ago.  Doesn't look as scary now.  I guess it faded...  One friend, I think needed it.  The other, not so much.  But now I don't notice it much, so it must be okay.

When I was 40 I could not put eyeliner to save my soul................I was having medically necessary eyelid lifting, and I asked about having that done too...................The plastic surgeon said...................that might be gorgeous now, but how will you feel about it at the age of 75 or 80..............Guess who still can't put on eyeliner, and now that I'm 76 I think, damn that plastic surgeon gave me good advice..............Now I would probably look like a tired raccoon, with the need of a good facelift....................

    Happy Easter ladies

That mineral makeup, it's not matte is it?    I hate a matte finish....I don't want to look oily, but I don't want matte coverage....

Maybe I will make a potatoe stamp of my eyebrows. X )

I didn't lose all my eyebrows.   They got sparse, but I never lost them entirely.   I just penciled in a little bit with a drugstore eyebrow pencil in a very light brown/taupe color.   Looked very natural.

JFV I've tried a bronzer, but it just looks like I've...used a bronzer!! I don't think those of us walking around normally need one. If we're going to be under bright lights that would wash us out, well then, a bronzer would hold the skin tones, define decoulletage and make one look healthy.

I had my eyebrows tattooed 9 yrs ago and loved it!  The problem now is that the color has faded and it has an orange tint :--(    I'm toying with having them done again - lightly (when I have a few spare bucks).  Re: penciling them in and/or using shadow on them, a good brush makes a huge difference!  I've had my Bobbie Brown brow brush for years and think it was worth every penny.

Barbe, I am the same way.   I am Casper-pale, so you would think a bronzer would be helpful.   But they all look fake on me.   On the contrary, I think they look more natural on women with deeper skin tones.

Fearless, anyone should be able to wear a bronzer!  A good makeup consultant can get the right shade.  It is more challenging in the pasty set (that's me).  But, there are times in the summer I've used it to look like I didn't crawl out from under a rock.

Love the photo, Barbe!  Some of the nicest "natural" bronzer shades I've found are made by Palladium.  It's a line I've only found at Nordstrom Rack and Sally Beauty Supply.  Someone once told me some makeup stylists use Palladium, and I think their bronzers and eyeliners are great.  I use it to shade my jawline, as well as to add a touch of sun.

It seems like the concensus above was to stay away from lipgloss, but some I really like are by L'Oreal.  They're part of their Infallible line, have a nice amount of color in them, and are not sticky or gooey.  The problem I'm having with lipsticks (from Chanel to drugstore brands) is that they emphasize every little lip wrinkle and can also bleed (even with lip liner) into those deep lines around my mouth.  So I like the L'Oreal colored glosses much better than lipstick for everyday use.     Deanna

Deanna.. There are many tips to prevent lipstick bleeding. Powder foundation or oil free foundation or concealer around the lips might do the trick.

I am sticking with lipstain and sheer lipstick over it. No lipstick bleeding for me. I think the stain seals in the sheer lipstick .

No one replied to my question about fragrances and what they're wearing. Anyone want to chime in?

I thought lipgloss was supposed to be much more youthful than lipstick??    I love lipgloss....

Thanks for the tip about Palladium.   Never heard of it, but there is a Sally's right by me, I will check it out!

Fearless.. Thanks. I am going to make a list. It takes me years to find a new scent to add To my collection.

Fearless... I don't know how old you are, but I prefer lipgloss on my 27 year old daughter. I just read this terrific book, What to Wear the Rest of Your Life. I agree with one of her tips, if you wore it 20 years ago, it was fine to wear 20 years ago. And if you have a daughter and it's back in style, then let her wear it now and not you. That advice works for me. The DD and I do wear some similar lipsticks... But she gets to wear the gloss to!

    Voraciousreader,

Based on feedback from this thread, I bought "La Vanille" perfume. No pthalates, no parabens. The fragrance I got is based on passionfruit, and it really smells nice. It has good staying power, and I have received lots of compliments on it. It's sold at Sephora.

Marianna.. Is it sweet? I like lemony or green tea scents. Next time I'm in Sephora, I will take a whiff.

It's definitely fruity. I am a fan of lemony/green scents, but I am not sure this falls into that category. They have several scents to choose from, based on the LaVanila website:

Mistake in last post: it's Lavanila, not Lavanille.

Voraciousreader - I wear a number of colognes. Pure by DKNY is a nice clean scent as well as Light Blue by Dulce Cabana (sp?). I also like Donna Karen Cashmere Mist. I do not like anything floral - just nice clean scents that aren't too strong.

My fave scents are Burberry Brit and Victoria Secret's Very Sexy Hot ~ I always get compliments on both.  I also use the body mist (very sexy hot).  I find I'm wearing them less and less and just wearing organic lotions, etc.    I used to love anything with lavender but am associating it with this past year and am getting so sick of it!  I love anything with grapefruit too - nice and fresh.

I wear Pleasure Intense by Este Lauder.  I always get lots of compliments.
