BTW... I tried that new Oil of Olay hair remover stuff on my chin just now, and it worked like a charm.  Takes ten minutes, easy peasy.  I think my waxing salon just lost a loyal customer!

    I got it at Costco.

This is an interesting thread. I have a problem with face products and hot flashes. It seems that whenever I apply moisturiser or other face product, I have a hot flash and associated facial sweating shortly afterwards. Not to mention the repeat sweating throughout the day. I worry that the moisturiser is not getting the chance to do it's job and the whole situation discourages me from applying anything to my face.

Recently, a friend saw a product advertised on tv that stops facial sweating. I actually bought her some and she tried it and found it worked. I haven't tried it yet as I need to check the ingredient list. By the way, it's called Face Saver and is made by a New Zealand company called Neat.

Also, when talking to a naturopath, she said I need a preparation that prevents sweating. I actually bought a product recommended by my onc, Remifemin, and have been using it for a few days. It is supposed to take several weeks to start working though; it's not working for me yet.

Does anyone have other good remedies for facial sweating? Do you suffer from it?

    Hi Racy,

I also suffer from facial sweating and the back of my head also sweats - this is from hot flashes.  I started a drug called Effexor (Venlafaxine) and although I still have hot flashes, I do not sweat from them.

My sweating was always worse when I put moisturizer on my head - which I've been doing because as my hair is growing back my scalp is dry and scaly.

I know Effexor isn't for everyone and has it's own side-effects but I take it for anxiety and panic.

Good luck with the Remifemin and let us know how you get on with it.

I'm the only one I know that can be sitting quietly and then a second later have sweat trickling down my face! When I do work around the house and especially if I KNEEL (go figure!) I sweat like a PIG. I have to have papertowel tucked between my breasts! Wait!! I don't have breasts anymore! That's the only thing I've missed about them. I thought when I lost the heavy weight it might help with my sweating but not. I go through papertowels like crazy on my face and head.

Try kneeling and let me know if that makes you sweat. I'm always stunned at how fast it starts. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has that problem.

For me lying down is the major cause for hot sweats, you can guarantee no matter how cold our bedroom is as soon as I lay down the night sweats begin, even just laying on the sofa to watch TV has the same effect.  Guess it's just something I have to learn to live with, YUK.

OK, ladies I have finally found some coconut oil.  Hopefully it will be delivered today and I can start giving this skin treatment a try.  Miracles would be wonderful but even a slight improvement in the anti aging process will do for me.

Has anyone tried the coconut oil on scars?  My scars aren't healing very well - PS said I "don't make good scars" - who would've guessed before surgery?  Oh well.

    Hi Lifelover,

Try using Vitamin E oil on the scars, I have done this with mastectomy scar, ooph scar and strnagulated bowel scar and it has worked every time, you can barely see the scars - it really does work!

The coconut oil is amazing, after only 3 days of using it the eczema problem on my foot has almost disappeared already.  I have been using hydrocortizone cream for two years with little or no effect and then coconut oil after only 3 days has made it almost disappear, both me and my husband can hardly believe it.  Also using it on face and rest of body, any dry areas seem to have cleared up already, just waiting now for the wrinkles to go, now that would be a miracle, LOL.

Since I've been faced with this challenge, I've changed my diet to eliminate all white stuff, sugar, etc. eat more raw veggies and fruit, a little fish and chicken, and do a lot of juicing.  Not only have I lost some weight around my middle, but my kids are saying that my skin looks so much better...no wrinkles!  I am 71, so I consider this a real compliment, and it must be true coming from the kids as they are brutally honest!  I'm expecting a final dx this week, but whatever it is, I feel I have my body in optimal condition to handle it.

Thanks Monty - I'll try the vitamin e oil for sure.  Great news about the coconut oil results you are having!

Kaara - great advice - I assume white flour and white rice are also foods we should be eating less of.  I've been eating more vegetables - especially green, leafy ones - and I notice my skin has improved a lot.

lifelover:  Yes...if it's white, don't eat it.  Definitely not flour and white rice.  Brown rice is good, and there are gluten free pastas that taste the same as regular to me.  I've also found chips for dips that are gluten free...made with chia seeds and healthy for you.  I made guacamole and used the gluten free chips and the kids loved them!  Never told them what it was!

I also found some really great chips at Marshalls (Winners/Homesense in Canada) that are made from lentils, they are gorgeous, healthy yet extremely tasty, and come in an assortment of flavours. Kaara, I told my husband what they were made from in the hope he would leave them alone but unfortunately he took quite a liking to them so I didn't get to eat too many as they were gone before I knew it!

I went to my BFF's for dinner last week and she served edamame for an appitizer!!! Then said she put flaxseed into the stew. It was like she was making an ER+ breast cancer cocktail...sigh. But we loved the edamame!!

    Barbe,

I know exactly what you mean. I had Thanksgiving here at my house, and a friend brought me a gluten free pecan pie from Whole Foods.  Often, gluten free pastries and breads are awful, but this one was DELICIOUS. I ate almost the entire pie by myself.  Well, I went to Whole Foods last week and checked the ingredients -- wondering how they got the crust to taste like shortbread--- and the pie flour was SOY FLOUR!!! Ughhhhhhhhhh. It was an estrogen pie!! YUCK!!!!!

Too funny, eh Marianna? We're worrying about things we never thought we'd have to!!! Normally I don't ever check labels. But, when I try something new I am curious, like you were, to see whats in it.

I have definitely noticed aging in my face.  I was a 45 year old who was often told I looked 30.  Now I look like I'm in my 50's.  It's not enough to go through all of the treatments I guess.

The coconut oil I use is Unrefined, cold pressed, organic. You can get it at most health food stores and vitamin shops.   I use it on my skin and to cook with.  It can stand high heat like frying eggs whereas olive oil cannot and should only be drizzled on salads or added after cooking.  Use a clean spoon each time to get it from the jar instead of your hand so as not to contaminate it.  In the bathroom, I keep one jar of coconut oil and one empty jar and a spoon.  I put some oil in the empty jar and sit it in the sink in hot water to melt while I shower so it is ready for spreading as soon as my shower is over.  I actually drizzle it over my back straight from the jar.  Coconut oil becomes liquid at around 74 or 75 degrees I think.  Make sure you are standing on a towel or your floor will be very slippery.  It washes easily out of towels but dogs love it and may eat holes in them if left laying around.

When I was diagnosed in June of '11, I had to go off of my speck of Estradiol and am now on Arimidex which squeezes out all estrogen...um, yes, I've noticed that I look more than a little ragged.  Plus, I think I look pale and tired.  My husband and I just returned from a "feeding frenzy" road trip down South where it was quite humid and my skin looked much more "alive."  Since then, I've decided to be more loyal to my moisturizer (I have rosacea so I can't go too overboard), get on a stricter walking schedule, buy some clothes, do something with my hair...in other words, start pretending I look younger than I feel (and look) and maybe it will help me actually feel and look younger...

After using coconut oil on my skin for over a year now, I can say that I am thoroughly fed up with it. I have been putting it on my face too which causes pimples. It is raw, unrefined coconut oil and for me it is too thick and just sits on top of the skin. Not only am I fed up with the pimples, but I am fed up with the oil getting on my camera, my computer, the furniture etc. Yesterday, when I was in wholefoods, I looked at the ingredients in Kiss my face cream to use that for a change, but I noticed lavender extract, but that is a no no for er+ women as lavender is estrogenic.

I noticed on reading a few posts back that someone mentioned oil of olay, I will check out the ingredients on that when I have a chance as I like to use a daily moisturiser. I used nivea cream for many years until I noticed aluminum stearate in it. But now and again I feel devilish and put the nivea on my face and love the cooling sensation that it gives and then I go back to that healthy crappy coconut oil and get pimples again.Frown I was looking at some other ingredients in these face creams and I noticed titanium dioxide in them...holy cow, I paint with that!....so I cannot put that on my face.

    Painterly,

I know what you mean about the coconut oil getting all over stuff. I will admit, thought, that my skin actually glows when I use it, so I love the compliments I receive over my complexion while I use it. (Mind you, never got those comments before).  I also use an oil that is extract of Apricot Seed overnight, which is a nice skin plumper. I struggle with always looking like my hair is just a touch greasy, because it's long and touches my face and neck.... don't quite know what to do about that.

My dog tries to lick my legs after I put on coconut cream. I always feel as if I need to towel it off before I get dressed to avoid staining clothing.  That said, I also keep a bottle of Nature's Gate body lotion around for the times when I am in a hurry and don't feel like dealing with the coconut oil.

Gosh.  I have to say that I was a little freaked to hear about lavender having estrogenic properties.  I have been using a lavender eye pillow to relax me into sleep everynight.  I also reach for it if I awaken during the night.  I've been doing this for a while now, and at this point I think has to do with the routine more than the lavender, but still...

My onc also told me not to worry about the soy stuff--and I am 95% ER+.  I don't know whether or not to believe him, but I don't stop myself from eating soy every now and then.  It isn't a mainstay for me anyway.

I never really did much to my face, nor wore make-up. After DX, I have tried to be a bit better about taking care of myself. I still don't wear make-up, but most days I remember to use a moisturizer and i also use jojoba oil, which I find to help with the dry skin well. I don't think I look too scary or ancient, yet anyway. If my hair is grey when it comes back, then that will make me look aged for sure. If that happens, I may consider dying it (I never have before). I kept a hank of my hair so the hair dresser can match the color. I am 48.

I love the coconut oil but what I do is I bought a small bottle in the cosmetics sections and I melt and put the oil in that.  I sit it in a cup with hot water and that melts it.  Then I just squeeze a very small amount on my hands and rub it on my face and body.  This way I don't put too much and it soaks it rather quickly.  I can control it much better that way. I too get lost of compiments on my complexion and have not had pimple break outs.

As for the Lavender it is my understanding that topically it is fine, but that we should not ingest it in things like teas and chocolate.

Sherryc,  I took your tip on the coconut oil about 2 months ago and I love how soft it makes my face feel.  I happened to be in to see a dermatologist/specialist in skin rejuvenation about a month later and he gave me a Eucerin sample for a moisturizer.  Well, I told him that I had just found a great new moisturizer, the coconut oil, and since I had just put some on before leaving home I told him to feel how soft my face was.  He did and said, "That IS soft!"  I still have wrinkles, soft wrinkles.
