Maureen, say it isn't so, cannot stomach more snow.  It is only Feb. and realistically we could see 1 1/2 mos.more.  We will all be babbling idiots by that time.  Conneautville is a lovely small town, no st. lights, 6 churches, 2 bars (for the babbling idiots), a post office, an Amish woman who makes homemade pies with fruit she picked herself, had red raspberry this last week and a post office.  No polcemen, no crime, leave keys in the car and door unlocked.  A huge coop of Amish bakers, butchers, farmers, woodworkers, carpenters, who all show at the coop.  Most of the Amish here do have electricity but no cars, TVs,and keep to a strict code of ethics.  It's like a trip back in time.

Red raspberry pie is my DH and DS favorite pie in the world!!  We have a small market on the border of East Amherst and Lockport with a lady who makes pies for that market. I go there weekly for cold cuts, meats and potatoes.  I look for her pies and when they're in stock, I get one for the boys.  It's gone in a day :)  That market has a really good price on potatoes.  Wegmans sells 1.5lbs of the same type of potatoes for 4.99/1.5lbs.  The market sells them for 2.99 for approx. 9lbs!! and they last longer. BTW, my weather bug just came up with the alert. I will seriously need antidepressants before this winter is over.  Here's an idea, let's get our onc's to write a script for a warm weather vacation and have our insurance companies foot the bill because we need to up our vitamin D levels and serotonin levels.  Who's with me?Laughing

I love WNY weather  LOL :)  Watching the weather and soap opera and laughing.  This winter sucks!!  There I said it.  Hope everyone is warm and cozy today.  Suppose to be warmer on Monday though.  Hope all the WNY sisters are okay. Watching the weather closings scroll across the screen.  I don't remember the TV stations leaving them on all the time when I was a kid, thought they were on in the morning and then went away.  Does anyone remember this?  Also, was reading the article on the easy bake oven converting from the light bulb to a heating element and including some recommendation for parent participation?  What is that?  The light bulb in an easy bake oven is what made the oven and easy bake??  What is going on?

Don't worry Maureen, you are right the messages were only on in the morning for about 2 hours, then disappeared.  And you are right on the easy bake oven, the light bulb did the cooking.  I think this consistant snow is playing with our minds, cabin fever big time at my house.  My one cat, Sophie, is running from window to window at 40 miles an hour, looking at the snow.  She only tries to get out when the lawn is showing.  Yesterday she could see some grass and was crying to go out, today no crying just dashing. We all deserve scrips. from our oncologists for a nice island vacation, perhaps a plea for Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I'm with you for the cruise script.  Cats are funny characters, my cat, Iris, tends to pace and act funny when a bad storm is coming.  She was acting very impatient yesterday.  Today just sleeping on any blanket she can find.

Yes, I could see grass yesterday too. I thought maybe we're on the upswing but anyone living in WNY should wait until St. Patrick's day to hope for warmer weather.

Bought a SUV last week and sold old one to my DD.  I'm hoping it was a good move because I really liked the trailblazer.  The Santa Fe is the first foreign car I've ever owned but better gas mileage so I took the plunge.

we got about 8 inches too, it isn't snowing now, I don't know if more is expected.  I drive a Subura, had a Toyota before, both have been very good reliable cars.  Fantastic in the snow, my Subura plows through anything and holds the road well when it's like this.  And I feel like it's been like this for 40 days and 40 nights.  Sophie tired herself out and went to bed finally.  I think that sighting of grass yesterday got her all hoped up, but as you say can't depend on anything til at least St. Patrick's Day. My grandchildren's birthday is April 22nd (both born on the same day, a yr. apart) has been known to have sleety nasty weather.  Everyone stay warm.  Karen

Hi All, Weird news today.  Just got notified there is a coyote living on the golf course. They are suspecting a den of these animals are close by because of their habitat style (travel in packs etc..) We are now warned to keep small animals inside, no birdseed and keep garbage secure.  I'm not sure what a coyote looks like?  Last year we had a bear right across the street, roaming the neighborhoods, until they shot it.  Some people complained that the police shot the bear, WTH is that?  Wonder what they would've said if the bear hurt their animal or child?  Love bears but have camped in the Adirondack yearly for years and I've seen what they can do.  One time, campers thought it was funny to feed the bears and they crashed through the screened-in porch costing thousands of dollars in damage to their camp.  They're cute but nasty fellows when hungry or angry. We're not really a rural area either, wonder what is happening?

Finally stopped snowing today and DH plowed the driveway, what a doll. I like the look of the Subaru (sp?) and they get rave reviews for safety, gas mileage and performance but I'm an SUV kinda girl.  I haven't driven a car since my DD was about 18months.  We bought vans for sports and then to the SUV Hubby is a truck guy which surprises all cause he is a suit and tie guy during the week. Might change if the price of gas keeps rising, we're up to $3.43/gallon at Kenyons (N.French & Transit)

Karen, Your grandchildren's birthday is 6 days before my DS birthday.  He's going to be 18 this year.  We had two big milestones, DD = 21 and DS = 18....boy do I feel old :(

my friend lives in a very nice trailor park near GCC.  Her neighbor warned her last week that a coyote had killed a cat behind her trailor.  They are getting too close to residential areas, my friend has a mixed breed terrier and has to go outside at night with her now.  She absolutely wouldn't be able to protect herself.  Maureen, wasn't sure of the spelling of Subura either, I'll have to check the car when I go out.

A terrier, she should try to train him on those grass pads they sell.  Going out with a dog in this cold/snowy weather....I love my indoor cat.  I am a huge dog lover but they're a lot of work.  My DD has a dog and her BF has a dog so when they get together it's like having two toddlers in the house.  I told her to leave the dog with BF until they get rid of these coyotes.  There is a dog park almost across the street from the golf course/creek area.  It is fenced in and DD and BF used to run the dogs all the time there after work which is nighttime, I think they'll take a break from the park for a while.  Like mentioned in the earlier post, I wouldn't know the difference between a dog and a coyote from a distance.  I'll just stay inside and cruise the boards, watch a good movie, spend time with DH and enjoy the evening.

My DD wants me to get a dog and I would if I had a fenced in backyard.  She has a friend who owns 2 rescued English Mastiffs, beautiful and huge.  The male, Luther , had been abused and is terribly shy.  Must weigh over 150 lbs., he kind of sidles over and lays his head on your knee with these big sad eyes.  I am such a sucker for pets.  There is a rescue Mastiff in Pittsburgh, her name is Layla, and I love that song by Eric Clapton, leila.  I am so tempted, but my cat would be terrified by her.  I tried to add another rescue cat and Sophie started spraying, so Mellow moved downstairs to my daughters.  And walking her in this terrific winter weather is not very appealing.  I just have to keep talking myself out of it.  Karen    p.s. Subaru is the correct spelling, had to check the car.

Hi everyone.  getting ready to send my daughter backto school after a week of for winter break .  lots of clothes to wash. Thank goodness just need to clean the uniform though!!

We have a small dog - so really glad to hear about the coyote warning. I'll have to watch her closely outside.

Maureen- my parents had one run down their street once. This one was low to the ground, kinda shaped like a german shepard. long tail - very scruffy looking.

My husband is looking for a new car - so now I am going to have to check out the Subaru you are all mentioning.  I really hate buying new cars.  I never feel like I got a good deal!

Karen- the Mastiffs look so darn cute. Big dogs though.. may saying is big dog big poop - so my daughter opted thankfully for a small one!!  My girlfriend owns a pet website called tripswithpets.com they sell those pads. Great site for dog lovers as they have a huge list of pet friendly hotels.!

Karen,  the dogs sound beautiful. I'm sure if they've been rescued they've been through a lot and very deserving of a great life.  My cat is the exact opposite concerning dogs.  She terrifies most dogs. Jumps on their head, hisses, and actually bit my DD boyfriends dog's ear while he was sleeping.  She doesn't realize that 100+ lbs dog would eat her (~10lbs) as an appetizer.  He just cried out and ran away.  I'm so glad DD boyfriend was right there and had control of the dog. The mere action of jumping up sent the cat flying.  My cat is a snot, very moody and stuck-up (LOL). Why talk yourself out of the idea?  Is it possible to have the dog for a  visit to see your cat's reaction?

Bevin:  I wore a uniform too, all the way to high school.  I think they're a good idea and helps with peer pressure and getting ready in the AM.  Thanks for the website for pets, will check out.  Where we camp, they require you board dogs and can be expensive. Thanks for the heads up identifying physical characteristics of a coyote, I'll keep my eyes open. I like the Subaru, nice car, I'd buy it.  The manufacturer of that type of car sells a nice SUV, called a Forrester maybe?  We looked when we were shopping for the most recent SUV, expensive but really nice. We ended up with the Santa Fe.  I loved my Trailblazer but Chevy no longer manufactures that style.

Off to #11 tomorrow, will be so glad when chemo is over, it's starting to take a toll.  I cleaned the family room today and I'm ready for bed but I couldn't stand the dust anymore.  I'll just take it one day at a time.  Tues, I meet with the RO so I'll keep everyone posted.

    Take care,

    Maureen

Maureen, getting down to the last 2 aren't you?  Hope it goes easy on you, no cleaning for the next few days, pamper yourself.  You were supposed to discourage me, not give me a really great idea!!  I'll ask Laura to bring Luther over this week, to see what happens.  Better bring Lilly over too, Luther might get too scared, if Sophie freaks out.  I bet what happened at your house, happens here.  Bevin, I really love my Subaru, it's reliable, sturdy and plows through everything -and- it's a 1998.  No major repairs, has 137,000 miles on it.  Karen

Just checking in.  I had #11 today and all seemed okay.  Took two bags of fluid to wake me up today.  Had to come home and call into a meeting right away. Was so tired, I almost fell asleep during the hour long call in (LOL)  When I didn't answer a question, they thought I left the phone on mute :)  Off to RO tomorrow to find out my fate of radiation: start dates, frequency, dosage etc.  I have a list of questions to ask him for information. I'm just at the learning stage and tend to be detail oriented when learning new information.  Wish me luck!

Bevin/Karen: FYI,   I just read on-line the Subaru is one of the top ten resale cars according to blue book value over ten year period.

Maureen, I was just checking in on you.  Today is over, now you can put your body on mute and just relax with DH . I am not surprised that they retain their book value, I know a friend was searching for a hubcap (that I lost) in a used car dump and could not find one Subaru.  Finally found one on Craig's List from a private party in Rochester.  They are really well built cars, I've been bragging on it, have to remember to knock on wood.  Karen   p.s. hope all goes well tomorrow.

Wish me luck.  I'll post when I get home, nice sunny day and on steroid high, I think i'll do something fun, walk the mall with my purex, take a ride in the car, enjoy the day.  The next step to my journey is starting soon and I want to start looking for a new normal.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a counselor in the WNY area.  I'm thinking I'd like to talk to someone.  I looked through my insurance and she's booked till end of year, on cancellation list but still searching.

Maureen, my therapist knows a woman in Williamsville, I'll check with him and get her name for you.  Mine is fantastic, I drive to Rochester to see him, now once a month.  He had been right here in Batavia, when he moved it was my choice togo to Rochester or to Williamsville, I chose Rochester because I trusted him and Rochester is closer.  I find it so valuable to do talk therapy,  he was my first call when my godmother passed away.  He "knew" her since I talked about her so much and really enjoyed our little adventures and how loving and realistic she was.  She had always been the most liberal of my relatives, so you could talk about anything and she didn't mince words.  You will be fine on this leg of your journey, the lab techs at Batavia Oncology were fantastic to work with.  They will be the ones you see everyday.  I saw the RO once a week for an exam and to dicuss any SE.  My only SE was a tiredness towards the end but you experience a whole new level of fatigue from chemo.  I did get a radiation burn, so be sure to use the lotions they give you religiously.  I have heard on other threads that coconut oil and pure aloe from a plant, or health food store (make sure it is pure no additives at all). work well.  Karen

Back from the RO.  I will 28 tx with 5 boosts=33 total,  Monday-Friday starting end of March. He seemed very positive and a 13 minute ride from my house.  That will be nice.  I liked him and he seemed to think this will go well.  They will work around my work schedule and he's sending me to a lymphadema specialist to avoid that problem. I go for my simulation next week.  Said that will take a good hr. or two and I'm okay with that. Think things will go well, feeling good about the next leg of this journey.
Thanks Karen, please PM me the name of your therapist, I'd love to find someone with a good rep.

Dear Maureen - I hope radiation goes well. Just make sure you moisturize right after treatment and right before bed. I used some great stuff the clinic gave me. It worked really well. I'll send you a note with the name of it. I know you can buy it at the medical supply store on bailey but I forgot the name of the lotion. I know I have some here so will find it and pass it along.  So glad its a close trip and the worst of the weather is probably gone.  You'll have an easy drive each day.

Karen- I know - the snow is tiring. Now its cold At least the sun shines.. oops dont know how my text got big, but now I cant fix it  ..

Kindone - hope ou are well.

Who will go to the St Patty's day parade??? Always a fun time in Buffalo

Karen,  saw the snow this AM and seriously thought about increasing Vitamin D or taking antidepressants.  I'm sick of this winter and want it over.  How are you feeling?  Hope all is well with family and you're working through the tough times without your godmother.  Hope the grand-kids are well and no more snow days!!

Bevin,  Thanks for the good wishes.  I'm nervous about finishing the chemo and starting the rads but it's a journey I want to finish and win.  Hoping to hear good news about your lung issue?  Doc said creams if I need them.  I go for the simulation next week and will ask again.  I've never tanned, easily burned due to Irish heritage and want to prevent issues rather than react when they happen.  BTW, drive is about 12-15 minutes from my house, good thing when I need to go everyday. I was required to go to the St. Patty's Parade every year when my parents were alive (LOL) not-negotiable. I'll wait for Don Paul's weather report before that decision is made :)  Will have corned beef and cabbage as the whole family loves that meal.  My mom made every year since I can remember.  As DD and DS say: "It's tradition!!"  DD boyfriend is Irish too and he always make sure he's invited for that dinner.

ElleD: GOOD LUCK tomorrow, remember, we are all holding your cyber hand.  Please let us know the good news.  We're praying for you. Enjoy shopping in Buffalo, do you go on Elmwood or stay to the main stores?

my grandchildren are trading flu days, gs sick over wked, gd took her turn today and probably tomorrow - respiratory kind, slight fever, coughing and sneezing. Trip to walmart for Theraflu  et al.  I've had my sad moments and tears, more this week than last for some reason.  I've been talking about the happy or silly moments more.  I may start journaling, I did that with the BC and it helped.  Have had 2  20 min. sessions on the bike each day, can now keep it in the red zone for full 20 min.  couldn't have done that before I quit smoking.  So, a great thing from quiting, it's been a month and a half.    Karen   p.s. Maureen, I had a 5 min. ride, it makes it supernice since it is every day.
