Hi girls!  It has been a busy day and I didn't get to pop on here - many errands to catch up on.  Did my heavy-lifting shopping, (like walmart-stocking up stuff) so I won't be too tempted to lift gigantic bags by myself later on...

I had to write a letter of appeal to my insurance today re: the BRCA testing from way back in the beginning - my mom got tested (negative) and together we did the counseling and the want $270, from me but I wasn't the one tested.  Also, the kicker is less than 2 weeks after my counseling, Obama passed an act to cover genetic counseling I was told by the Gen. counselor today!?! So here's to hoping they fork over the $240 for it...

I also got a letter requesting my participation in a 10- year study with Dana Farber, Mass General and Brigham & Womens in Boston.  They are conducting a study of young women diagosed with BC and will follow about 1,000 women while testing blood periodically and questionairres re: emotional & physical health...I gotta read the fine print, but looks like it will provide some future info for women.  I'm already involed in a lymphedema study, I don't have it but am verrrry concerned, my mother is plagued by it and so I joined that study too...

    anyhoo....

It was a glorious day and the sun was shining!  Lago - I will check out your clip after, I donned my children & myself in green, I am almost 100% irish and tried to weigh out the girls' majority polish side today, (my hub is 100% polish!!!) ...a good & productive day all around - hope you all enjoyed yours!!!

I can't imagine you losing the battle with the insurance, Megan.. sounds like a no brainer! :) ... that's cool that you were asked to be in a study!  Hey, free blood tests! .. boy, I hope you don't get lymphedema...that scares me too!  Hopefully, with only 3 nodes, we are okay...but it can happen to anyone. :(

...and I'm 1/2 Irish too, dad's side ~ my maiden name is very Irish. :)

fire-dancer On St. Patrick's day in Boston everyone is Irish. It's kinda like everyone knows a certain amount of Yiddish in New York… you don't have to be Jewish. Tongue out

yeah, Lago - it was a sea of green 'round these parts!!! every new englander is apparantly irish on st patty's day!

...a little known fact - I got a tattoo when I was 18, so 18 years ago... ...- a little shamrock on my ankle.  McCarthy is my middle name, I was steeped in "Irish-ness" by my mother as a child!!!  (ok, ...actually I have 2 now, got another this past year (not irish-related!!!) - anniversary present with the hub!!! Wink)

    I am uber Irish!

I am so Irish, my grandfather owned a bar called "The Shamrock". And, I still have relatives living on the island of Guernsey. However, no green beer for me, all I did to celebrate was go to the post office.

    ...waa wah wahh wahahhaahhh...

I noticed today while inspecting my skin with a mirror that I have tiny red lines, in what I'd classify as the area under my nipples if I had nipples. Almost like spider veins but much finer. I hope my skin is okay...

Cameron - I had little lines on the side of one TE when I got two fills in about 8 days, I asked the nurse about it, I was worried about developing stretch marks, and she told me not to worry too much, that even if they were stretch marks, my skin would only be at this size temporarily, like 6 weeks till exchange and that they will (probably) not be permanent.  Actually, as my skin adjusted to that amount and loosened up a bit they have faded already.  I moisturize ALOT and am super-fair, so everything shows thru my translucent skin ;-)  - I am not sure if what you have is the same, ask your PS or nurse what they think....

Cameron -  I had the same tiny red lines  - my PS (Migliori) told me that was my skin simply revascularizing (making new blood vessels).  I also have stretch marks on my new foob (just one)...which I did not get with the three kids. Or at least I am not looking too closely in certain areas to notice.  :)  Anyway, the nurses and PS told me those would lighten and simply not to  worry.  AND I do know in my real/normal life I am usually not standing buck naked in flourescent lights looking at my boobs with a bunch of people standing around!  LOL.

Fire - we need to start the countdown, where are we at?  I am so excited for you!  What size do you think you will get implanted?  I am sitting at a 425 now (though I just earned that the internal valve in the TE was 40 cc).  Good to know, so that puts me at 465, technically. Is this how you looked at it?

Anyway...days are flying...life is good...foobs will be closer to boobs...

Hi Annie!  I am headed in MONDAY!!!! I feel like I have been waiting for this time, but now that it is here I am really nervous, not scared like the BMX, tho.  With the BMX I knew there were going to be physical changes and there would be a process, nothing was permanent (well, some things like the surgery itself were permanent, but you know what I mean!)...wellllll, now I am at the end and concerned about the "permanent-part"...will I love them? hate them? too big? too small? not perky enough? not enough cleave? ...the list goes on.  I know there is always revisions, but I'd like to think I'll get it right on the first try, too optimistic?!?!?  Last night I said to my hub I really need to take the focus off of 'great expectations' and start to think of it for what it is, another step further away from this ordeal.  I guess all along I never really entertained the idea that I might have to go back in for any fixer-uppers.  I kind of framed it as besides checking in periodically, I'm outta here!!!  Time to re-think that one...I am going to try to relax over the wknd, have kid-activites to keep me busy so Sunday night should be here before I know it...

...sorry if I sound crazy, I don't want to sound like a 'downer'...it is an exciting time, but nerve-wracking, too - I think my controlling personality is having a hard time of letting go to the unknown, here!

...I am expanded to 450 cc's in a 350 mentor TE.  I am not sure of what size implant I will get, my PS won't commit till he gets in there, but probably @ 400 size, I'm going to remind him one last time my concern for lotsa projection, hoping he will do a mid to high profile on me, thinking large B when I wake up?

Fire - have a wonderfully, busy, crazy weekend with your family!  You are going to turn out great!  You have had such great interactions with your PS, he knows what you want. I totally get the tweaking bit...I, too was looking/thining at one more and done!  Maybe not.

Oh well, it is a work in progress, like all art!

It took Michealangelo from 1501-1504 to sculpt David.  I putting my money on that old Mike was working and reworking the testicle areas, tweaking, taking some extras from the belly, moving it around, scraping, etc. Looking for the right droop.....

    Have a great weekend!!!

...had to laugh out loud at the Michealangelo refernce - looking for the right droop...awesome!!!

I'm off to organize my house and feel "ready" for Monday!

Wow, this has turned into quite a thread. Susan, I just noticed you have your exchange scheduled. Good luck, mine was a breeze; I was up the same day, walking around the yard and checking in on the various flowerbeds. Husband had to keep telling me to lie down, take it easy, quit doing so much. I didn't even need any pain medication.

Hello everyone.  Can someone tell me how to get to the Tim Tam site?  I am a breastcancer survivor and had reconstruction with saline implants.  I am not happy with the results (Mentor implants) and am considering silicone.

For those who got round silicone implants, I would like to know what your PS said re wearing a bra. Mine said wear sports bra for 6 weeks 24/7, then after I don't have to wear one if don't want to. By the way I am about a B cup.

after exchange, PS told me what type of bra (and size to get)..it was a regular soft cup bra, but don't remember the brand right now....wore it 24/7 for I forget how long, and none since then.....

sling99, there is an entire thread called "Bras 101: The Great Post-Exchange Debate". Some PS demand underwire 24/7, some totally restrict underwire, etc. The thing is; all PS are different, but most importantly, each case is different.

I asked my PS about this, he said sometimes underwire when not properly worn can really affect your results. In some cases he prefers the compression of sports bras, sometimes not. He will let me wear underwire if it's properly fit. From the research I've done, a properly fit underwire seems to be helpful, so I'll probably be pushing for it. But the important things, IMO, are:

    1. ask your PS why he prefers underwire/sports bra/etc. Understand the reasoning.

    2. trust your PS!

Karen1956 and Cameron, thanks for your replies.

I was just curious to know what other people were told. I don't want to mess anything up. Also, since I read all this stuff on these boards about the "drop and fluff", I had asked my PS at my 5 week follow up if there would be any dropping or changes and he said no. Could this be because I stayed small? Anyway, I am glad I don't have to wear any underwire bra as I find them uncomfortable.

sling99 I wore a sports type bra 24/7 for six weeks.  I just got released from that~hooray!  My PS said that I would not drop and fluff either.  He said that is for the gals that get implants not for reconstruction...I don't know, so many people here experience it.

Since I have very small implants (200cc mid profile), there is no fluff....they look like hamburger buns on my chest, but in clothes I look pretty normal.....as happy as one can be without the real girls....I've had these implants for 2 1/2 years now.....

I am definitley going to have to check out that bra thread - there seems to be so many options from different PS - I'll have to read up and see what's happening over there...

Well, I am off to tie up loose ends around the house and get ready to take the "PLUNGE" tomorrow...I'm feeling alot more confident after a wknd of reflecting and shifting my perspective - I am excited for this part and will check back in when I am home and healing!!!

Thank you alllll again for being a super bunch of gals, you've helped save my sanity many times Wink ...I can't wait to come back and share the good news!

    enjoy your Sunday's!!!

BTW, had my first bathroom flash last night with a woman who did a preventative BMX two years ago.  It was so great to see it all up close and personal. She looked so great and "non-coconutty" and had beautiful little nipples and lovely tattoos.  What a difference the total package makes....

    Love to you all all!
